Re: Harvest Moon: Light of Hope to Brighten Up the Nintendo Switch

DragonbornRito

Good grief, it's not like pixel-art games are the worst thing ever, @Anti-Matter. Stardew Valley is currently the best Harvest Moon game I've ever played, and it's not even officially in the series! With Harvest Moon, it's all about the gameplay. I honestly think Friends of Mineral Town was the best HM game ever released. It was portable, so the short burst gameplay style fit it perfectly. The characters were lovable. And it never felt grindy. If they can come close to replicating that same feel, this game has the potential to take the farm-life sim genre back from ConcernedApe. As of right now, I'm eagerly looking forward to the Switch release of Stardew Valley.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Its Plans for E3 2017, Including Playable 'Sandbox-Style' Super Mario Odyssey

DragonbornRito

I think everyone needs to cool their jets. We got a Nintendo Direct a few weeks ago that was supposed to be all Splatoon 2 and ARMS and it ended up showing a hefty amount of content for both the Switch and the 3DS (albeit it in a separate video). I wouldn't be surprised if they go a similar route here with 3DS announcements.

It's blatantly obvious that they're going to push the Switch. It's a commercial success at the moment and E3 is the perfect way to keep that hype/money train running. With the New 2DS XL coming out extremely soon afterwards, there's just no way they won't be giving it some attention. But the Switch is the key here. A ton of people already want the Switch, and another ton of them might make the leap with a good showing at E3.

And for the love of all that is holy, don't get too worked up on this supposed "focus" on Super Mario Odyssey. To Nintendo, a "focus" is like 10 to 20 minutes of a 60 minute presentation, if that. There's plenty of time to make lots and lots of announcements, and this is by far the most crucial E3 Nintendo has had since the Wii U's post-launch one.

Re: Guide: Protect Your Nintendo Switch On The Move With These Carrying Cases

DragonbornRito

@NewAdvent Orzly one is really good. It's sturdy as all-get-out, comes with some game card and Micro SD card cases along with niches for them under the Switch itself, it's molded quite well to the Switch and its Joy-Cons, and the zipper up front can easily take the Joy-Con straps, a pair of small earbuds, and a cleaning cloth with room to spare. Unfortunately, I don't see being able to pack in a Joy-Con grip or a Pro Controller, so if those are must haves for your case, look elsewhere. Personally, I've got a plain-Jane single shoulder backpack that I'll throw the case, my Joy-Con grip, charger, and dock into if I wanna take the whole shebang with me.

Re: Matters Of Import: Fusing Classics In Puyo Puyo Tetris On Nintendo Switch

DragonbornRito

@aaronsullivan @JHDK I found what seems to be a decent menu guide over on the Puyo Nexus Wiki.

https://puyonexus.com/wiki/Puyo_Puyo_Tetris_Menu_Translation

Gonna compare it to the demo menu in a bit and see if it lines up well. I just remembered that I do have about 1200 yen left unspent on my account, so I could actually pick up the game now for ~$40. I dunno.

Edit: Yeah, I'm just gonna wait until April. That demo is so dang generous, the only thing it's really lacking is online. And the only nuisance is having to go back through the menus each round. I will definitely be picking up the NA release though. Best version of a Tetris game I've played since Tetris DS (what I wouldn't give for another Nintendo/Tetris collaboration...).

Re: Review: Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! (Switch eShop)

DragonbornRito

Just wanted to make sure everyone knew about the Japanese eShop occasionally having lower purchase prices than us Westerners depending on exchange rate. I just picked up Snipperclips on their eShop for 1800 yen, which translates to about 4 dollars cheaper in USD than the $20 price tag we have. Amazon.co.jp enabled me to grab some JPN eShop codes at cost, no markup, and I'm now happily enjoying Snipperclips, Voez, and Blaster Master Zero for cheaper than I'd have paid in either the EU or NA stores.

Re: Soapbox: You Should Probably Avoid Capcom's Mega Man Mobile Ports

DragonbornRito

Had $15 just sitting on my PSN account with nothing really on my radar that I didn't already have on PC until Horizon Zero Dawn comes out, so I picked up the Legacy Collection for PS4. One of the best retro compilations I've ever played. Sooooo close to beating MM2, but that freaking boss in Wily's Fortress 2 deals a CRAPTON of damage and is going to require a lot of pattern memorization.

Re: The Nintendo 3DS Is Getting A New RPG Maker Game

DragonbornRito

For those who weren't aware, there was actually an RPG Maker game released in Japan on the Game Boy Color way back when. Some fans even made a patch for it that translated it ALMOST entirely. I remember spending many an afternoon fooling around in VBA trying to make my own title. It was surprisingly well made, even if it was extremely limited on the graphics end. I could still use it to tell my story as I wanted to tell it. If this is anything like that, it'll be amazing.

Re: Italian Bishop Likens Pokémon GO To Nazism, Claims It Turns Players Into "Walking Dead"

DragonbornRito

@InternetBowser Do all religions control every aspect of your waking life? If not, then I don't think you can compare ALL religious folk to "walking dead", even if they do follow their doctrine to a T. What I'm trying to get at is that comparing ALL smart phone users, ALL religious people, ALL of what have you, to subservient zombies of a totalitarian system is ridiculous.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

DragonbornRito

The amount of butthurt over a lighthearted "Samus who?" in the subtitle of this review... IS TOO DANG HIGH!

But seriously, it's a Metroid Prime game without Samus that may not be the literal pile of stinking dookie that everyone assumed it would be.

Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games

DragonbornRito

@Thermoclorn Well, I did happen to have a bunch of carts and no NES for a while after my system got stolen a few years ago. We finally replaced it 2 months ago for $60. That said, there's certainly some advantages that would've been great had this system supported carts (which I fully expected it not to), such as the HDMI hookups and restore points. The NES looks rather crap on an HDTV, and a digital signal would do a lot to combat that. Thankfully, I still have a CRT in our spare bedroom, but who knows how much life it has left in it?

Re: Nintendo's Latest Hanafuda Deck Is Perhaps Its Most Eye-Catching Yet

DragonbornRito

Clubhouse Games for the DS (which can be found at Gamestop for less than $5) has a Koi-Koi game which was my first introduction into the world of Hanafuda. Anyone wanting a crash course on how the game works could do much worse than CHG. (Not to mention, CHG is a terrific title for its download play, packing a TON of replay value if you have a fellow board game lover to play with.)
