Re: Talking Point: Age Of Imprisonment Could Inspire Next Zelda Game, Say Devs, But What Does That Mean?

Debo626

Wow, many comments wishing for a return to "old-school" Zelda and I have to say, I couldn't disagree more. We have so many traditional, linear, "formula" - style Zelda games, the series was getting very stale and samey for it. From A Link to the Past (which actually started the "formula," not OoT like some people think) all the way to Skyward Sword (including several handheld entries as well), the "formula" of linear item-based dungeons and exploration has been done to death. The sales of the series proves my point as well; the old format was getting tired and gamers tired of it. If the next game were a remake of an old "formula" game, I'd give it a shot, but otherwise I'm ready for something completely new. Also, the idea that a more traditional "formula"-leaning style of gameplay is mutually exclusive with the open-air/open-world format of BotW/TotK is kind of silly to me. I believe the creative maestros at Nintendo will impress and wow us again with the next entry; we just have to be patient and keep an open mind.
Just my two cents worth. Despite what the comments might have some believe, not all long-term fans of the series want them to keep remaking the same game year after year like Call of Duty.

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles Voice Actor Might Have Leaked Evidence Of A New Release

Debo626

@crudfish To each their own indeed. I cannot overstate how mediocre and sub-par XC2 is for me from start to finish. The combat is horrible, the voice acting is too (I speak English, I will never use Japanese language voice acting, why, so I can be stuck reading subtitles for 200 hours? No thanks), and the performance is so bad as to be nearly unplayable in handheld. And this from the studio that put out Xenoblade Chronicles X, a game that looks better and runs smoother than 90% of its open world generational contemporaries. It was a huge downgrade form the quality of XC1 and XCX, and honestly, I just hope they move forward instead of backward. I still own the S1 original of XC2 if I want to replay it. Every remake = a delayed new entry.

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles Voice Actor Might Have Leaked Evidence Of A New Release

Debo626

Hopefully it's a brand new game, a sequel to X, or S2 editions of 1, 3, and X. 2 is by far the weakest entry due to subpar combat, performance, voice acting, character designs (too revealing and overly "jiggly" for a kids game!), and story. Honestly, for me the best part of 2 was the soundtrack. But I have had all the XC2 I need for a lifetime. Love the series, HATE that the worst game is the best selling. Whatever comes or doesn't, eventually MonolithSoft will bring something amazing to Switch 2.

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct May Be Coming As Soon As Next Week

Debo626

I'd very interested learn what MonolithSoft has been up to, and hoping for S2 upgrades to the Xenoblade games. I'd also love HD remakes of Zelda A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds, ideally as a $100-or-less 2-pack. Day 1 buy. Those games both need modern ports. ALttP because it's so old and iconic, and ALBW because it's still locked on 3DS.

Re: Mystery Product Code Sparks Rumours Of A New Switch 2 Model

Debo626

To those acting like an oled model is "inevitable," how would VRR work on an oled panel? Has the tech industry solved oled VRR flicker at a cost-effective (or at least, not cost-prohibitive) price point? Until that problem is solved at a reasonable cost, I would caution against anyone getting their hopes up for an oled model. It would be very expensive if they could even do it. I feel a lite model is more likely. Removing docking capabilities = no need for any 4K or 1440p capabilities and removing the joy-con = no need for multiple motion or mouse sensors, all of which could help bring down the cost, as would not having a dock or HDMI cable in the box. I guess we'll see with time.

Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Does This One Thing Better Than Any Other Nintendo Game

Debo626

Completely unnecessary potshot at Xenoblade fans. I also wish I could dislike/downvote/thumbs down articles, because that was totally uncalled for.
Article headline: "Metroid Prime 4 does this one thing better than any other Nintendo game"
First paragraph: "Xenoblade does this one thing worse than any other Nintendo game" for absolutely no discernible reason.
Accessibility is an important issue to talk about and bring to light. Maybe do it in a less abrasive and insulting way.
I'm a huge Xenoblade fan and MP4 is my first ever Metroid game. "Welcome to the fandom" eh? Another commenter said this could have been executed better and I wholeheartedly agree.

Re: Opinion: We Need To Talk About X Games

Debo626

@darkswabber Have you ever seen a cross? ✝️ This is a cross. ❌ This is an "X" ("eks")
Sony can call it whatever they want, but here in reality, it's an "X" because a cross is not diagonally aligned to the bottom line underneath it like an "X" is.
@IceClimbersMain I do the same Xenoblade Chronicles Eks, Drag Eks Drive, etc. No and, no smegging "cross", just the letter as it appears. 🤷. But I couldn't care less what other people say and it's a silly thing to have a disagreement about.

Re: "If Mario Starts To Show Up On PlayStation, That's The Apocalypse, Right?" - Ex-PlayStation Boss Thinks Console Exclusives Are Still Important

Debo626

Important qualifier I don't believe I've seen before.
1st party exclusives are great, as in, the company that owns the hardware platform making games exclusively for that platform to support it makes sense from a hardware sales standpoint.
3rd party exclusives, as in Electronic Arts and Square Enix, which aren't made to support a hardware platform, are silly and only reduce total potential sales.

Re: Reminder: It's Time To Rate Your Switch 1 & 2 Games Of The Year

Debo626

My Switch 1 game of the year is easily Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition.
For Switch 2, it's a little more tricky to choose, since, out of the main games I've played on Switch 2 this year, Metroid Prime 4 is essentially a Switch 1 game with a Switch 2 version, No Man's Sky is a Switch 2 version (although such an awesome and fun one), and BotW & TotK are also Switch 2 versions. I didn't get DKB (played the demo; wasn't for me), and Fast Fusion, while fun, isn't goty quality. All those caveats being said, I have to give Mario Kart World my Switch 2 game of the year. It's a very fun game that should only get better with time as the generation goes on. As far as the future, I'm looking forward to the inevitable MonolithSoft snd Zelda team games as soon as they're ready (MonolithSoft is going to impress on Switch 2), and the Grid game coming to Switch 2 next year.
Happy gaming and weekend everyone!

Re: Rumour: A Game-Key Card Alternative? Nintendo May Have Smaller Switch 2 Carts In The Works

Debo626

@Cipher36 I don't have a problem with Nintendo opting for higher speed SD cards, but if their physical media isn't going to provide the read speeds needed by developers, then they should allow full game downloads rather than fake physical media. In either case, a need for separately purchased storage is foisted on the end user, but in the scenario of a full game download off a cartridge, true physical media and thus ownership and game preservation are maintained.
Also, sounds like you and your Steam Deck had a scintillating conversation. My electronics aren't usually so talkative.

Re: Monolith Soft Releases Interview Celebrating Its Work On The Zelda Series

Debo626

My favorite game studio by a wide margin. It's always nice to read how important MonolithSoft is to Nintendo's development cycle. The idea of a MonolithSoft-developed Legend of Zelda game is truly an exciting prospect, even if it's ultimately pretty unlikely considering Aonuma's team always develops Zelda. Potentially interesting times ahead. 😁

Re: Random: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Wins GameStop's "Worst Game Of The Year" Award

Debo626

@SegaBlueSky I did too. It was cool to geek out over the new tech and I found it very entertaining. That said, I agree it should have been a free download, but that horse has long since been beaten to death. I think the hate for it stems more from resentment that life has gotten so expensive and this little tech demo is an easy scapegoat for people's ire about the cost of things. It is a voluntary purchase though, which makes that hate for it a little weird. Unless a person has personally paid for it and regretted it, it seems weird to waste mental energy flaming this game.

Re: Ongoing MicroSD Shortages Could Have A Knock-On Effect For Switch 2 Storage Availability

Debo626

@Stormcloudlive I love my Switch 2 and have nothing bad to say about it except that which are universal economic facts of the present time. It's not Nintendo's fault that AI facilities are sucking up all the ram chips and driving prices up. Nor is it their fault the US dollar and other fiat currencies are worth less than in previous years due to persistent inflation. 🤷 Those are legitimate problems, but I don't feel it's fair to pin any of that on one gaming company. There are more obvious culprits in my opinion.

Re: Ongoing MicroSD Shortages Could Have A Knock-On Effect For Switch 2 Storage Availability

Debo626

@spiderman0616 Been here a while lol. I just don't agree with the premise a lot are spouting here (not you) that Nintendo are deliberately evil. I get that prices are rising everywhere and that's a legit concern. However, my opinion is if a person is that angered by rising prices as to consider faster expandable storage to be a targeted, deliberately evil move, well maybe that person just needs to step away from gaming for a while, or whatever is causing them so much angst. Getting as angry as people on NL seem to at Nintendo sometimes evidences a real perspective problem, IMHO. It's just games people. It's not worth getting so upset.

Re: Hiroshi Yamauchi Might Feel Envious Of Switch 2's Success, Says Miyamoto

Debo626

@iLikeUrAttitude Don't get me wrong; I'm not the Nintendo mafia who can't handle criticism of them, far from it. I just don't get you, @Spider-Kev, and @Anti-Matter who seem to always and only post negative comments. Like why are you here if you hate them so much? It just seems like it puts more negativity into the world, which doesn't make anything better for anyone. Why not just play games and a system you like?

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Director Highlights The Speed Problem With Switch 2 Game Cards

Debo626

They'll keep trying to market this take, but I suspect the vast majority of games who actually care about physical media won't believe them. In today's world of "everything is expensive" and "no one has any money but the big corporations" anything that seems even slightly greedy/budget conscious/etc is going to be perceived as a slimy corpo move. It just seems like they're foisting the cost of storage onto the consumer and taking away the concept of true ownership at the same time, and on purpose.. In the long term, that's not going to = more profits; it's going to = less gamers and less games being sold.
