@Matty1988 XCX on Switch would be a day 1 buy for me. I'm not remotely interested in any old Zelda ports. Maybe a complete HD remake of Zelda 1, preferably in the ALBW or Switch LA art style. But I couldn't care less to play WW and TP specifically again. Thank goodness XC3 is coming out this year. This delay, of BotW's sequel, is actually a blessing in disguise since it gives me a bunch of time to play through XC3.
@Pod Couldn't agree more. Also don't want menu music or eshop music. I like that they've kept things simple and streamlined and hope they keep it that way. Want music, play some on your own, or get into a game where there will be music. 🤷♂
This comment section is risky Nintendo Life. Already the comparisons to Gaza are being drawn, even though the situations are completely different. Cool on the developers involved for trying to help the people of Ukraine. Everyone feeling the need to make a war in eastern Europe somehow about the Middle East, stop. Not every conflict is about the Middle East.
I'm mostly ambivalent toward the Miis. They have their place and they don't hurt anyone, so I don't feel any angst about them.
Confession: I can still remember, vividly and in great detail, the music from the Mii Maker Channel on the Wii. Over ten years later, it's still stuck in my head if I think about it. 🤣
@Truegamer79 The first one is my favorite, but the second is an awesome game too. The story is really good as well, and like the first, has plenty of emotion and heart. I'd at least check out the story cutscenes before going through 3 if it were me, since there are some confirmed returning characters from each game. Knowing their backstory might provide some context to their actions in 3.
@MegaMari0 "F" I'm so sorry to hear about your gamepad. Gotta hand it to your son though; he did try to be considerate and do the right thing. I'm sure it was a sad day at your house though. I'd agree; trying to get a new Wii U at this point wouldn't be a good investment. Their price has skyrocketed since there's only 13.5-and-a-bit million out there. Watching the cutscenes is an ok substitute I guess for playing through it, but the story wasn't even really the point of XCX; it was the exploration and combat gameplay. I hope for your sake they do port it to Switch or a future system so you get the chance to enjoy it all the way through. In the meantime, hopefully XC3 is as good as the first two.
@MegaMari0 Myself as well. Le sigh. 😫 I played over 900 hours of XCX on the Wii U and I'd buy and play it again in a heartbeat if they'd port it. Maybe next year? If the Switch is really at the "midpoint" of its life, there's still hope.
@Truegamer79 I hope you love it. The story and characters are so well done it's like playing through a really good anime with a huge open world. Have you played XC2 yet? If not, and it's too much, I've advised a gamer friend of mine to watch the cutscenes on YT to catch up with the story before XC3; might be an option for you too if time is in short supply. 😁
@Truegamer79 They are well worth your time. XC1 is my favorite game story of all time, and tied with BotW and XCX for my favorite game full stop. If you have XC:DE on Switch, the quest tracking makes the side quests significantly more manageable. Just go slow, take your time and enjoy it, and try not to get overwhelmed. Played to completing all the sidequests, it's about a 100 - 125 hour adventure. More if you want to level every playable character all the way with arts and skills and whatnot. But the main reason I think it's worth it is the story is amazing and has plenty of "feels" moments, and the exploration and combat gameplay are simply amazing. I hope you give it another go. Good luck! 😁
Count me among the number who are massively excited for XC3.
Wonderful news! I'm looking forward to this, but I'm also slightly anxious about it. I really hope the combat is more like 1 than 2. Either way, I'm sure the story, music, characters, and exploration will all be up to Xenoblade standard if not even more awesome, and can't wait. 😁
This game is still so much fun, even if they didn't do stuff like this. Her music does nothing for me, but it's kinda cool seeing a game partner up with a musical artist to get publicity for both of them. Nice one, Psyonix.
As much as Jim Sterling is a choad, no one deserves this. NFTs and blockchain technology aren't making things better for gamers, and I suspect this is only the beginning.
Pre-ordered mine October 7th and it's scheduled to arrive January 27th. Woo-hoo (sarcasm) supply again issues and delayed shipping. Seriously, I can't wait for it. Satisfye's grip is the best accessory for the Switch and makes handheld play so much more comfortable.
@Iggy-Koopa 😂 But seriously... People here, my countryfolk, do chew the poor English language up and spit it out. "British" English is proper English. There's nothing quite so grating as some of the accents here in the States. It's hard going from the proper diction one would hear in Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, or even Red Dwarf to "ya'll;" it's a very jarring transition lol. Anyway have a nice day! 😁
@Iggy-Koopa Leaving aside the semantics nightmare of "English" not being the same thing as "British," I meant it from the perspective of someone who speaks American English, an officially recognized dialect. 😁
@GrailUK I love British English. Using a word like "pants" to mean "bad" or "poor quality" is just about the most linguistically entertaining thing ever. 😂 Thanks for the smile Grail.
@sleepinglion Same. Well, I was never excited for a lore-breaking bit of unnecessary sjw pandering, but I was thoroughly impressed with her acting in Broadchurch and gave her an honest chance because of it. Same with Chibs, as well as due to his prior DW work. But it was all a giant disappointment, which, again, ruined the show's very long, very established history and lore. Oh well. Thank goodness Red Dwarf hasn't jumped the sjw shark yet.
@sleepinglion Jodie Whittaker was great on Broadchurch, coincidentally the last time Chibnall was able to write competently. There was no good story reason to change the Doctor's gender, and definitely no good reason to rewrite the show's lore. Bad writing and an overt topical agenda killed a long-running, formerly awesome franchise. Sad.
@WeltraumDreamer @sleepinglion I completely agree. Actually, when I heard RTD was coming back, I first felt unbridled joy, followed quickly by the cynical realization that the BBC is pretty committed to their course of action for the show, and that even RTD is unlikely to change what needs to be changed as he won't get permission from the BBC to do so. So really, all he'll likely succeed in doing is tarnishing his amazing DW legacy, which will be unfortunate. I'd love to come back to my favorite show of all time, but if he doesn't retcon the "Timeless Child" arc, I won't be back, and I suspect I'm not the only one.
@Mortenb I mean, you're free to believe what you want. There are other countries besides the US, and other presidents and heads-of-state besides Biden, so I don't personally believe it's politically motivated specifically or exclusively. I believe it's more to protect big corporations like Nintendo and Apple, among others (like Hollywood studios) from honest feedback and criticism. Trump was no fan of negative feedback either and melted like a snowflake every time someone asked him an uncomfortable question so I just can't believe that it's American politics specifically that's the ultimate motivation for this. Again, believe what you want.
@Mortenb This feels like its more about protecting corporations than politicians. Though there's hardly a difference lately ("lately" meaning since 2000 or so).
@danemord Well from my perspective, your English is quite good. I only have English, and maybe some Spanish, so you're doing better than me in the linguistics department. 😂 I definitely see your point. I wish the count weren't hidden from the content creator by default. To me, that just seems like feedback will have to be actively sought out, and giant mega-corporations aren't known for being overly concerned with consumer feedback, definitely not enough to make me feel they'll still see and care about the counts once they're not right in their faces. But I do agree with you and the article that some people take it too far with review bombing and dislike campaigns. IDK, it just feels like a tiny form of activism is being removed for not much good reason, but at the end of the day, there are bigger problems in the world.
@danemord IDK maybe. From my point of view, speaking only for me, I don't dislike a video to be "edgy" (whatever that means today lol). I do it if I dislike the video. In the specific case of the NSO Expansion Pack, I did it to show Nintendo that their offering didn't bring sufficient value. I couldn't care less about racking up some "high score" but only want to hold corporations accountable for poor business decisions.
@Berserker7 Funny to think of conservatives, which are, in the US at least, terrified to legalize a plant (cannabis), being against censorship. Apparently no one remembers reefer madness, the drug war, and their hardline stance on adult entertainment. Just saying both sides do it.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Couldn't agree more. All this does is remove one more way could consumers can voice their displeasure with a corporation's actions, like letting Nintendo know of people don't feel the Expansion Pack of NSO brings enough value for the asking price. It's pathetic.
To the surprise of (hopefully) no one, the comment section is at least 75% - 80% entitled, whiny, uninformed salt. Nice article Kerry, and good job trying Nintendo Life, but the ones who most need to hear/read and understand this article are the ones least likely to, or if they do read it, are the most likely to complain and be all "well actually..." and proceed to whinge entitled-ly. The internet is a terrible and unkind place most of the time.
All the comments wishing for voice chat are evidence most people on this site really don't know Nintendo at all. Voice chat is never going to happen. 🤷♂
@TheRedComet I hear you, really, I do, I just don't think Nintendo will ever add native voice chat. They're too concerned with maintaining their family friendly image. People are pretty toxic on certain games even without voice chat. I personally think that could be solved with parental controls like every other family friendly concern, but I don't think Nintendo is ready to move on from that image they've created for themselves.
I love the Switch. It's my favorite gaming console of all time, by any manufacturer, of any generation. As a 60:40 docked:handheld player, it meets my needs perfectly. The games are awesome and it definitely doesn't lack for variety or selection. Everyone whinging about voice chat (you know Nintendo's never gonna do this, so why, just why, continue whinging for it?), folders, themes, and everything else, just proves how entitled gamers can be. Check the Wikipedia page for list of Nintendo Switch games (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_Switch_games); there are 3859 games available on the Switch. Complaining about Wii U ports literally no one is forcing you to buy is the height of a first world temper tantrum. Meanwhile, some of us wish they'd port more, like Xenoblade Chronicles X. IDK, just seems like some are missing the point. 1. We know Nintendo is done trying to compete on cutting edge technology and processing power. It's never gonna happen. "Lateral thinking with withered/seasoned technology" is still and will likely always remain their approach. 2. The most important features of a console are user friendliness, reliability, and the games. The Switch, in my experience, performs admirably in all 3 respects. 3. Everything else is just details. Just my opinion, of course. If you think otherwise, that's cool. I hope everyone has a great day! 😁
I remember thinking "oh no, it's the Wii U all over again" when they showed the person playing on their couch, as it wasn't exactly clear to me at the time what was going on. I felt initially kinda "meh" if I'm honest, because after the Wii U, which I had and loved and had great games, sold so abysmally, I thought if Nintendo would just make a powerful console that could compete toe-to-toe with the RawPowerTwins, and if they leveraged their much-cooler-IPs properly, they'd've been able to absolutely destroy the competition. Fast forward to now, it's my favorite console of all time in any generation by any manufacturer. Nothing comes even close. 33 months as the bestselling console certainly suggests they've done well against the competition. The core concept is brilliant, the games are amazing, and as a roughly 60% docked:40% handheld player, I don't ever want a non-hybrid console ever again. Switch is simply amazing. Now if we could only get them to port over Xenoblade Chronicles X. 🤔
@Blakeava1821 Thanks for the information. I seem to remember, possibly incorrectly, that the Switch broke the Xbox record when it hit 24 months. Is this not the case? I didn't think Xbox had such a long streak, wow though!
@Brady1138 FYI (courtesy of @RupeeClock) "The fact that you can just buy standalone Switch Docks, and the version with the LAN port no less, for just £60 is great." The dock is available separately. 😁
@Lordplops Thanks for the information. We're still using an led Sony Bravia TV, so we're definitely outside of that duel. OLED and QLED being at a similar price point to does make me wonder why they'd push QLED.
@CupidStunt Are the QLED TVs cheaper? If so, that could be why: to attract customers who aren't ready or able to make the investment in an OLED I to purchasing technology that's still good but at a lower price point.
@johnvboy It's not even "to look good" though. The ratings and viewer numbers don't support that hypothesis. They're taking down an established series with long-established lore and characters because there are ideas and philosophies hidden from public view driving the decision-making process. I don't think NL.com wants us to get into the dark and sinister actual reasons, but none of them are anything to do with making a good, compelling, emotionally engaging story.
@MrFox I share your concerns and opinions about the current and future state of DW lore. I am hoping that RTD is just playing the "game," so to speak, that everyone in the entertainment industry plays in these situations. Like, no one from Disney is saying that Kathleen Kennedy destroyed Star Wars, but they are a for-profit company, and they must know that the franchise isn't making money like it used to, or should.
Same for Doctor Who. The BBC knows the ratings are way down, the viewership is way down, and the fan base is bitterly divided. Now whether they will let RTD do anything about that remains to be seen. RTD has always been socially progressive, and in his OG series of DW it was fine because the stories and characters, what actually matters, were all outstanding. I'm just not sure he'll be able to save the show. Half the fan base won't come back if series 11 - 13 remain as canon, and people who walk away from a show won't likely be purchasing any merchandise. Heck, I cancelled my cable subscription after series 11, because Doctor Who was the only reason we even had cable. Good luck to us, I suppose. 😂
@MrFox Couldn't agree more. Here's hoping RTD comes in and saves the show. If they don't reestablish the original lore of the show, with the great William Hartnell as the 1st Doctor, I'm done. The Timeless Child arc ruined the long-running lore of the show. Without respect for the lore, there's no incentive to stick around for long-running series. RTD needs to, at a minimum, decanonize the Timeless Child arc.

Re: For The First Time In 33 Months, Switch Wasn't The US' Best-Selling Console In September
@Blakeava1821 Thanks for the information. I seem to remember, possibly incorrectly, that the Switch broke the Xbox record when it hit 24 months. Is this not the case? I didn't think Xbox had such a long streak, wow though!
Re: For The First Time In 33 Months, Switch Wasn't The US' Best-Selling Console In September
Is 33 months the longest streak of any console?
Re: PSA: Don't Worry, You Can Order The Switch OLED Dock's Rear Cover
@Brady1138 FYI (courtesy of @RupeeClock) "The fact that you can just buy standalone Switch Docks, and the version with the LAN port no less, for just £60 is great."
The dock is available separately. 😁
Re: Talking Point: Should We Be Worried About Screen Burn-In With Switch OLED?
@Lordplops Thanks for the information. We're still using an led Sony Bravia TV, so we're definitely outside of that duel. OLED and QLED being at a similar price point to does make me wonder why they'd push QLED.
Re: Talking Point: Should We Be Worried About Screen Burn-In With Switch OLED?
@CupidStunt Are the QLED TVs cheaper? If so, that could be why: to attract customers who aren't ready or able to make the investment in an OLED I to purchasing technology that's still good but at a lower price point.
Re: Gear Up For Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality With Official Gameplay Footage
@johnvboy It's not even "to look good" though. The ratings and viewer numbers don't support that hypothesis. They're taking down an established series with long-established lore and characters because there are ideas and philosophies hidden from public view driving the decision-making process. I don't think NL.com wants us to get into the dark and sinister actual reasons, but none of them are anything to do with making a good, compelling, emotionally engaging story.
Re: Gear Up For Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality With Official Gameplay Footage
Re: Gear Up For Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality With Official Gameplay Footage
@MrFox Couldn't agree more. Here's hoping RTD comes in and saves the show. If they don't reestablish the original lore of the show, with the great William Hartnell as the 1st Doctor, I'm done. The Timeless Child arc ruined the long-running lore of the show. Without respect for the lore, there's no incentive to stick around for long-running series. RTD needs to, at a minimum, decanonize the Timeless Child arc.
