FantasyAnime just probably got popular enough to get noticed. As said in the article, the game is already for sale and whether we personally agree with it or not ROM distribution is illegal (especially by Japanese law). I get that general public opinion disagrees, but that doesn’t change those facts.
Makes me a little sad because since they are in the news, it probably won’t be long before others go after them. They have some Nintendo stuff up there and that probably will not end well for them.
I play this on Apple Arcade and the new features add a challenging twist. This has been a very bright spot of the Apple Arcade part of Apple+. I am not sure how the controller scheme will work but touch controls are well done.
I tried to open the eShop, but all that means is that I am not tempted to spend money. Most of my gaming is offline. Animal Crossing and Clubhouse Games both worked perfectly for me.
@MarioLinkSamus I actually like that it doesn't just have the same Characters we have seen. The Star Wars has a big galaxy and it is somewhat refreshing that everything doesn't revolve around the 12ish people that are main characters in the movies plus their closest friends.
As for the free to play, to each their own. I don't mind it and it certainly meets my limited budget these days. If it gets to be too much of a grind, I will move on to something else.
So Amazon spend a lot of money to put a limited Twitch onto the Nintendo Switch, but still hasn't bothered to put their flagship Prime service on there (even though they support just about everything under the sun, including the Wii U).
Animal Crossing is a modern Little Computer People. It wasn't meant to be ran 24-7, but a place that you check in on to see how what the virtual villagers have been up to. One thing I think that Nintendo missed on was the Newspaper feature in the app. Having that update with life even on days you were not active would have made the island feel more alive.
I do appreciate that it has a turnip tracker built into the app, and that you can order special "Nook" toilet paper on the Nintendo Switch Online App so you can stockpile in your virtual bathroom/closet space.
I prefer greedy capitalistic pig to describe the real problem of studios that expect ever increasing profits on ever diminishing budget/team size. Plus it reminds me of the comically bad movies/tv shows that overused the trope.
However there are lazy developers. I frequently deal with them and their half baked software at work. Their general opinion is that it worked for them in one specific situation, so it must work for everything else and don’t bother testing it. The MacBook Pro T2 issue on the recent update is a fine example of lazy project development and release. Another form is release and patch mentality.
18 months of free releases is a nice length of time, but I think the pandemic caused delays that were not planned to the point we are just getting a massive dump at the end. As for the paid DLC, it's better than them trying to sell the game for $59.99 like they did with the previous version.
@SonOfVon in this case it isn’t a remake, it is literally the exact same game engine with small quality of life updates, improved graphics and controls for game pads. The only new things they can review is that the controls work, the servers have issues and the graphics look better than they did 20 years ago. There is no new content, no engine changes, nothing. You are paying $40-60 for a 21 year old game with mods. Diablo 2 is the exact same game I bought for $20 fifteen years ago from a bargain bin.
@SonOfVon Diablo 2: Resurrected: A Review. 21 year old game from a company with a very troubling PR issue that feels pretty much how it felt back then. Go find a review of the original version from your favorite gaming media site, and it probably will tell you everything you need to know.
Not sure if there is much more to say about it. Everyone pretty much knows what they are getting with Diablo 2 at this point.
Lest everyone forget this is AT&T owned WB so they will figure out a way to screw it up. I mean they have been the force behind such successes as DirectTV Now, HBO [something that may or may not do what you want it to], the DC Movie Universe, and just the dumpster fire that is AT&T in general (where their solution to problems is to just raise the price without explanation).
@Thaliard Do you really need a story that is more than, "A bunch of potential murder hobos wander into town and are quickly pointed to the most dangerous spot known by the townspeople in the hopes they will die there and leave them (the townspeople) alone"?
Yeah, I was disappointed in the N64 software I tried last night but I refuse to purchase a N64 controller for it. I don't understand why they won't allow button remapping.
I will be getting this mostly because my parents and my daughter who are on separate Switches just for Animal Crossing. Each of them may get another 300+ hours out of the game and with the pro-rated fees I am hoping it will improve in the next year.
I debated long and hard on it. It also helped that my dad was willing to chip in on the difference since he plays it the most. (My dad, who is over 70, has put in 500+ hours into Animal Crossing, managing to complete every collection except the museum).
They say that is it a glorified spreadsheet like it is a bad thing. I mean the genre itself is born out of glorified spreadsheets and tables made by hand and referenced in tomes while spinning a tale of your imagination.

@sketchturner Depends on what your tastes are. Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting is probably the most recognized version, while Super Street Fighter has the most features/fighters. Personally, I prefer the original.
Still not sure what I will do but I did hear one argument for families with multiple Switch consoles and Animal Crossing players. The price is a little more fair if you would be buying the DLC multiple times, but the rental aspect of it still leaves a bad taste.
I loved playing the Wii U on the tablet screen while doing something else, but then I hit 40 and my eyes decided they hate me. So with the switch it is mostly via the TV, and when traveling it is mostly Animal Crossing and Clubhouse Games which don’t require fine details.
Nintendo probably should do a direct tonight to better explain the value proposition being made. The current facts are not enough to justify the pricing and it doesn’t clarify if a sub is required to retain access to the DLC. $45 is the price of a good game (and more during a sale), and N64/Sega games are not enough to fill that gap. I got 30 Genesis games for a fraction of that permanently.
Nope, value prop is still not there even after considering it. Even if they hand out free DLC expansions quarterly, it still requires I throw down for the games or lose value of my investment. I am lucky this time as I own Animal Crossing. What about the next time when it is for games I either don't want or own for Switch (Mario Kart 8 for example)?
I have a feeling I will be buying the expansion separately or just skipping it (they at first advertised it as $24.99 by itself). There isn't enough being offered by the Genesis/N64 that I care about to justify paying $45 more a year.
Sure, it works out to be about $11.50 per person/year, but the fact is that I would probably be the only one of the 7 to ever touch the classic games.
Nintendo is really going to have to first clarify their poorly planned announcement, and then sell me on the value of the product. Right now, I am not seeing it.
I am just happy that mouse and keyboard is working properly now. Before the keyboard worked but the mouse wouldn’t register. Quake almost demands a mouse and keyboard, especially deathmatch with my PC friends.
If Apple would bother to support my Pro Controller, then I would probably use Apple Arcade more. However, everyone being mad because Apple has found success basically using the same model that those others use (30% cut) is sort of silly.
Nintendo had their chance back in the NES era and they tightened their grip so tightly everyone ran as soon as they could (and some have never really returned). That very well might be the fate of Apple as they (like Sony and Microsoft have done at times) think they are sitting at the top of the pile, and everyone has to just accept what they decide.
@Ulysses Final Fantasy 11 did come out in the west for PS2. I bought a Network adapter to play it but my PS2 died before it released and I had migrated to the GameCube. Were there expansions that we missed?
No matter what Nintendo did someone was bound to complain. Part of that is out of passion, but most out of a sense of entitlement and feelings they should have a say. If those actors are the best for the roles and script then great, if not they should seek the best people like they did originally with Charles Martinet all those years ago.
David Prowse had the look of Darth Vader, but it wouldn’t have been the same without James Earl Jones reading those lines. Even when they took the mask off they had a third actor stand in for Anakin Skywalker (pre Lucas changes with the prequels).
Well considering that the first video game consoles were the Magnavox Odyssey and Pong from Atari, and I believe neither had cartridges that means Plug-and-Plays are "consoles".

hmm.. So IGN is having a video game popularity contest and we are surprised that their audience (mostly trending younger) love games they grew up with....
It would be like running a poll on Atari Age and being shocked that Pitfall beats out a lot of competition from the modern era.
I'll pick this up eventually as I enjoyed the game and it probably as close to Fallout that I am going to get on Switch. But to be honest, I am playing another cycle of Dragon's Dogma and still enjoying it so I am not really in a hurry at this point.
Let's not make the bar too high, just bring the games that are first party that are missing from the service. Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Mario Paint (USB Mouse Support), Mario & Wario, and anything else I am forgetting that Nintendo owns. But even Nintendo cannot help themselves in neglecting the service in order to see titles at a premium price.
We are at the point in Nintendo’s hardware cycle where first party hits cruise control because they are secretly working on the next thing. As soon as they started on the Switch, the Wii U titles vanished except quick releases, finishing projects and the swan song title (that was years overdue). The same thing happened with GameCube and the Wii.
Investors are oblivious to this for some reason even though there is a very well established cycle that goes all the way back to the NES to SNES days. Either that or smart investors are clued in and attempting to manipulate the market by prey on those that aren’t. At the end of the day to day stock prices rarely reflect reality.
@RadioHedgeFund Most of the hate I think comes from the fact it was an SD console released when HD televisions took off. The fact that modern TV's smug the graphics and introduce input lag colors people's perception.
The Wii was an amazing piece of hardware, but it did lag behind in the power department. Competitors pulled out very tired arguments against it (as did fanboys) saying that it was a "kiddie" console because it lacked whatever edgelord game they were looking for. Third Parties just dumped stuff on it to make a quick buck instead of building something unique to the console (sort of how the Switch is starting to get "remaster" dumps of older games).
But like most Nintendo consoles since the SNES, it suffers from design decisions made that were out of sync with what the public thought the wanted/needed. All of them were not bad consoles, just either not supported or hindered by their design limitations.
I think the failure of the Wii U and Wii Sports Club probably fated any idea of expanding to Sports Resort to doom. Maybe the next Gen when they are hard up for games, they will plunder the Wii library some more.
The opening of FFVII that was included on the demo disc probably got played an ungodly number of times. But probably the caravan stage of Super Star Soldier has the most plays
I’ve purchased a lot over the years, sometimes multiple ways so I don’t feel overly guilty for downloading those ROMs. I purchase legit when I can (hence a Wii U, SNES Classic, Steam ROMs and even some games on Switch) but I want the version I grew up with, not some mobile port of it.
There isn’t much in life worth paying those prices for. In my opinion, Little Timmy can be disappointed on Christmas because it teaches him that life is full of disappointments and setbacks.
Scalpers exist because we worship profit like a Ferengi. So people are not paid what they are worth here because corporate profit and CEO pay matters more than employees or society. So the bored rich people start looking for new ways to make more money they cannot really spend (and poorer people emulate them with money they don’t have).
So I hate the culture that makes scalpers happen. The only fix I see is to hope that the IRS and local state equivalent tax the crap out of their probably their profits. But really we need to stop and look at the carnage our culture is wrecking on humanity and make some tough decisions. Making the world all about “me” doesn’t ever work long term.
