Star Wars: Hunters is an intriguing upcoming release for Switch and mobiles, a free-to-play PVP take on the iconic franchise. Its release was pushed to next year a few months back, but now developer Zynga has unveiled an official gameplay trailer to show it off.
It looks promising but emphasizes that it's mobile footage, no doubt using the latest and most powerful hardware to show the game in its best light. With the relatively simple visuals, though, hopefully the Switch version will hold up.
As has been the case for a while you can head over to its official website for some further info on the game, including details on the playable cast. You can also register an email address to be eligible for some freebies when it releases.
Intriguingly it had a soft launch on Android in a handful of countries a couple of week back, rolling out in India, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia; as a result it's hopefully going to arrive early-ish next year.
Are you intrigued by this one and planning to try it out on Switch? Let us know, as always, in the comments.

"free-to-play"...Nope.
I seriously CANNOT WAIT to not play that.
Nope. Will not touch freemium phone crap. Probably has gambling mechanics built into it
This looks...depressing.
Yeah, already have Jedi Academy and KOTOR on Switch, so no thanks to this F2P malarky.
Looks like an Overwatch knock off that is conspicuously lacking real Star Wars characters. I suppose those will be held behind a paywall. Pass.
I can’t wait for this game to come out. Just so I don’t have to see it sitting at the bottom of the “Coming Soon” section of the eShop anymore.
So much nope on display here. This game looks abysmal.
To quote Sweeney Todd, "smells like p**s. Looks like p**s. This is p**s."
A robot Jedi...🤨....really?
🤢
A lot of negativity in the comments so far, so I’ll try something different.
Star Wars? And I can try it without spending any money? Yeah, I’ll give it a chance. I’m down for anything Star Wars.
May not like it, but if that’s the case, I’ll just delete it. But yeah, I’m looking forward to checking it out.
I stopped reading as soon as I saw the words "mobile" and "free to play".
@Krambo42 amen. Give it five mins and all I’ve lost is five mins. The angry men here spend more time saying they won’t play games……
@Stocksy Why waste your time on something that you know will be a waste of time?
Does the view shift according to the class you’re playing or is that just dynamic camera angles to showcase gameplay?
FTP? Zynga? The good news keeps coming on this one...
@Krambo42 Yup, no harm in trying this one. The new footage actually looks much better compared to the brief showcase on the apple event a while back. Its not AAA but it could be fun in short spurts. Besides, F2P shooters are usually better than full priced shooters these days when it comes to online play. Much larger playerbase, contionous support/updates/content and game balancing usually results to a better gameplay experience.
Mobile, f2p (bad connotation), Zynga, gameplay looks like casual trash, trailer talked too much. Next game?
How dare they mock me with pod Racers in a F2P game.
Give that game a sequel now.
@MarioLinkSamus I actually like that it doesn't just have the same Characters we have seen. The Star Wars has a big galaxy and it is somewhat refreshing that everything doesn't revolve around the 12ish people that are main characters in the movies plus their closest friends.
As for the free to play, to each their own. I don't mind it and it certainly meets my limited budget these days. If it gets to be too much of a grind, I will move on to something else.
Honestly, its not even the F2P or Zynga part that gets me (I mean, I think Pokemon Unite is great and its F2P and Tencent...). Its more the fact that these characters don't appeal to me at all. Woke Sith girl, robot Jedi, Jawas, Wookie go-SMASH, yawn. But if its your thing, more power to ya.
Looks like an uninspired game cynically riding on the back of a slowly depreciating ip. It's going to be popular isn't it lol.
When you have the money for the Star Wars license, but not the money for any recognizable characters.
When I first saw this I was thinking this could either be the biggest win or the biggest flop on the Switch. Guess I know which it's going to be.
I’m giving it a shot entirely because it let’s me play as two jawas standing on each other’s shoulders.
@GrailUK I like the way you said that haha
I hate that so many games adopt this Fortnite-ish cartoon style. Maybe that's not what they were going for and i just hate anything that resembles that game though. With the amount of Fortnite-looking games, i feel like it could be just me 😅
@Stocksy yeah if I play a game that I don’t like that costs money then I just wasted money. But F2P games you just lose some time.
@Darknyht Dude games are so expensive nowadays that most modern games I play are mobile games.
@Krambo42 I would say the quality of this game looks pretty good I will also give it a try but it looks like one of those things you would have to try before you just hate it .
@Audiogore0733 I’m sayin’!
I just threw up in my mouth .... a lot. and onto the floor. and walls. and ceiling.
Kylo Ren, Baby Yoda, and some of the animated stuff since Disney took over have are amazing. But that's like 3 hits and dozens and dozens of misses. So depressing.
I’m going to try this just because it’s Star Wars and after 2 matches my belief that it is a bad game will be confirmed.
@topher6490 you don't need to wait. Can play it on your phone.
Way to kill my only hope for this game LMAO.
@Moistnado I don’t have an Android, so fortunately, I can’t play it. Also, I think you may have overlooked a word in my first comment. 😁
A free-to-play star wars game on SWITCH? Alright, I'll try this out. I played a little bit of Battlefront II (the newer one) and I enjoyed that, so this seems interesting. I'm actually a bit excited for this, to be honest.
I've been wanting a new pvp star wars since battlefront 2, so I'm definitely hyped for this. You guys can say how bad free to play games are, but In my opinion free to play can be some of the best games aka apex legends. I'm also loving that it's for the most part original characters, and not just "here's basic stormtrooper 100, but you can unlock luke Skywalker later!"
@topher6490 LOL yes, I do have an Android. I could download it right now, but for some reason I can't be bothered.
Beyond excited
Heh, it actually looks good (for a mobile game). And the gameplay is too... reminiscent of many things.
