I can't stress how amazing this game is. All the praise is well deserved. The music, the animation and the changes to the AI all help to really make the game shine.
Here's hoping now that Wayforward have their foot in the door with Nintendo they get the chance to develop a Dual Strike remake or, even better, their own sequel.
I got this in the post yesterday and so far it's glorious. The music! It's as amazing and catchy as ever!
And I'm so pleased that the AI no longer cheats in fog of war missions like it did back in the day. It was always annoying when enemy rockets would snipe you despite not being able to "see" you. And enemy units can now get ambushed by your units just like you can get ambushed by their's, much like in Days Of Ruin.
I remember the 2nd game being even better than the 1st so I'm very much looking forward to that!
"Sakurai rides a Horse!" "Sakurai buys an XBox!" I think this is a great opportunity for one of the staff to do a Back Page article on Sakurai's day-to-day life after Smash, with him photo shopped in various situations. "Sakurai eats at Mc Donalds!" "Sakurai books his driving test!" "Sakurai bungee jumps into volcano!" "Sakurai grows world's second largest marrow!"
I like it but I don't love it. The story is cringe worthy and the controls were a chore. I feel the gameplay would have been much better and more fluid if it used the analogue stick.
In the post game however the game is really, really fun! With all the story out of the way and no more randomly locked doors the game plays a lot like other Metroid games. But getting to that part is just a bit of a slog.
I had this! I was constantly looking in Smiths afterwards to buy the second issue (which never appeared!). I never did find out what those golden statues in the mine were all about (which was also teased to be solved in a future issue that never materialised!).
@Spoony_Tech Ideally we'd get a brand new game instead. I'm assuming they're doing a remake of the first 2 in order to see if there's still a demand for the series, though it's odd they've omitted the third entry. (which was my fave too!)
I'm a little dumbfounded that stuff that was in previous titles seem to be missing in New Horizons. Hopefully they'll all be added as time goes on but I'd rather have it all on the cartridge from day one.
I can't see them being able to top Ultimate. It's doubtful Its roster and stage variety will ever be outdone. I can see an Ultimate port on the Switch's eventual successor (Smash Ultimate Ultimate if you will) but for any sequals, barring the emergence of new and revolutionary gameplay ideas, the only way is down.
I remember reading a rumour last year stating that a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake was in development for the 3DS and was jumping ship to Switch after 3DS sales fell off a cliff so the small file size certainly makes sense. This also bodes well for the other games mentioned in the same rumour to have development switching over to the Switch (Fire Emblem 6+7, Paper Mario 64 and the Virtual Boy Wario Land).
Even if he titled it pile of feaces or excriment it would have been deleted. I'm a big fan of Grand Poobear and watch his videos on a regular basis and I'm quite perplexed as to why he's having such a hissy fit over this. Nintendo just doesn't want any references to human waste, pure and simple.
Hopefully implimenting this into the game sets a fire under the devs to make a fully fledged Zelda Dungeon Maker (after they remake the Oracle games obvs )
Considering how costly and time consuming game development is now ports are a cheap and fast way of bolstering a systems library. So the more the merrier! Mario Maker and Pikmin 3 take my wishlist picks.
On a fairly related subject I'm amazed that Kirby Cavas Curse sequel didn't end up on 3DS (and it's not likely to now) but oh well.
Fortress Of Festivity from Pikmin 3 takes my pick. I play it every Christmas but I still have yet to get a platinum medal! I was going to play it tonight actually but I'm stuck peeling veg
Aside from a couple of digital only titles I'm physical all the way. That way I can lend, sell, and enjoy having a collection of games that have literal value. I can see the allure of digital only (always having all your games wherever you go) but for me the trade off isn't worth it.
To rank the Nintendo Switch as The Greatest Nintendo Console Of All Time not even 2 years on the market is, in my personal opinion, incredibley premature and a bit cringe. It's certainly on its way but its still got a ways to go to earn that top spot.
To me the Switch is perfect for playing retro games but restricting it to only nes games just seems so very limited. The thought of being able to play, for example, Paper Mario at home on my telly and then take it with me to play it during a bus journey or lunch break is very enticing. Nintendo should be offering games from ALL its consoles, from nes all the way up to Wii and Game Boy all the way up to GBA.
@Jeronan. And it remains a blemish on the eShop. The Wii U's eShop suffered with nonsense like this so I can only hope Nintendo have learned their lesson. I can only hope that Vrooom was accidentally approved by an intern on their first day.
This looks horrendous! Nintendo have done a pretty good job of keeping genuinely bad games from the Switch eShop so I hope it turns this game away at the door. The dev was even boasting that it's uncompletable! Steam is brimming with tat like this, and that's where it should stay.
It's a pity to see Metroid fall so far so quickly. I had hoped it would at least stay in the top 20. 3DS games haven't done too well this year in general, I think Fire Emblem's been the only other title to make the top 10. Hopefully this doesn't reflect on on Nintendo's decision to keep the 2D side of the series going.
As a massive Pikmin fan I'll still be picking this up on Friday, though I'm a tad disappointed reading the review that it might be a bit underwhelming. I understand a score of 6 means it's not a bad game but my money and time are precious to me and I usually don't waste them with any game that's less than "very good".
I love collecting amiibos. As figures at least. As DLC keys, not so much. It's fine and dandy to be locking concept art behind them but an extra difficulty mode? No, that's not kosher. The amiibo only allows access to to content that's already on the game card, it just unlocks it. Why should people have to pay £12.99 for a figure they might not want just to access content that they actually already physically own? The sooner Nintendo stop this bizzarre and unfair practice the better.
A pity it sounds so underwhelming. I had hopes that Arzest had finally got it right after a string of good-but-not-quite-great games. I'll still be picking it up day one regardless though, I'm a sucker for anything Pikmin related, spin off or not!
His insistence on getting the file size down in order to fit on Wii U basic models was what made Oddworld such a failure. It delayed the game by a year or more, long after the Wii U was at its peak, simply in order to fit on the smaller model that didn't sell very well anyway. Not only that but the port was a bit of a mess anyway, and far too expensive. Guy just sounds bitter.
People horrified by the tone of the article need to take a chill pill. Not every game is a masterpiece. In fact I find it quite refreshing that a preview is so frank about a future game's misgivings as all too often even bad games are given decent previews, laced with "cautious optimism".
When this was announced I'll admit to being a bit curious. It would be nice to play a decent sonic game again. Having said that, reading this preview makes it sound like yet another misstep for Sega's golden boy, it seems to have all the same failings we've seen time and time again.
Denying the rumour was the best course of action at the time for them. They had likely only just started development and would have received a very stern slap on the wrist from Nintendo had they confirmed it. Nintendo really like their secrets to stay secret.
I think everyone's jumping the gun a bit here. Capcom have clarified to Gamespot that "they have nothing to announce at this time". Which to me sounds like they want to announce it at a time when the spotlight isn't quite so First Party focused (Mario Oddesey etc) and they wouldn't want to detract attention from their newly announced Monster Hunter Worlds. It's bound to come to the west, they're just waiting for the right time to announce it, ie a future direct.
Announcement of the show for me! I was happy enough to hear that a new Prime game is being developed, but to then spring a new 2D Metroid on us as well just blew my mind!
