@mlt this is my concern too. I've held off preordering because from everything I've seen, and it's not to do with his character design, which isn't an issue for me. The game doesn't seem to me to capture what has been so special in DK games past (particularly the DKC trilogy and DKC Tropical Freeze). Even DK64, though I have issues with it, had some haunting atmospheres at times, e.g. sections of Frantic Factory and Gloomy Galleon . In the new game the worlds look really fragmented, bright garish colours everywhere, hard to feel immersed in, and way too 'busy' with everything on screen jumping for attention. That's before considering the frenetic smash-fest that the gameplay seems to be... I mean, it could still be a great game, and I'll be looking very closely at how the final product turns out, but that's how I feel. No hate to anyone here who's excited - I am genuinely happy for you!
For the physical die-hards, get this game! Though I still recommend digital if it's not against your own ethic. It's the perfect game to always have at hand, without juggling cartridges.
I think finding the 'right team' in this case really isn't possible. Those first two Banjo games had a certain magic because of the particular love and humour of the people who made them. Most of that team is pretty diffuse these days. Playtonic Games got a few of them, but even that's only a fragment of the golden-age Rare crew.
@Znake in reply to your first comment - you would rather remakes than these new games? I mean in the ideal world, we'd get both, but I'll always rather take something new
I found it one of the better indie directs. Some decent diversity in the games shown. Blade Chimera really grabbed me with its visual style - hope the gameplay lives up!
The appearance of these has been so few and far between. I got lucky in the past so that is one less competitor! Good luck to all and scalpers be damned
I never played this, but I do remember a game called 'Jones in the Fast Lane' which I played on floppy disk at my grandma's house. Nothing like playing a game involving rent hikes and pay cuts as a 5 year old kid!
A Link to the Past. While it isn't my favourite in the series (OoT has that crown) it will always hold a fond place for being my first proper Zelda game.
Whether Nintendo changes or not, when the day comes for Miyamoto's retirement I'll sure miss seeing that big grin during the events/showcases. It's that childlike joy and wonder that gifted us so many of these great games
Is it controversial to say I've never even been a fan of Waluigi? I always loved Wario as the perfect 'bizarro' Mario but Waluigi, even when I was a kid, struck me as weird and excessive - let alone a 'Walupeach'. Thank God Miyamoto vetoed this one!
@CharlieGirl I've replayed BK a few times over the years and while it's not perfect, it has aged so much better than DK64. A truly timeless Rare classic. The camera controls are also so much better than many of that era like Mario 64.
Here's hoping this can breath much needed life into the Metroid franchise and lead the way to more great future entries. I was beginning to despair of ever saying this again but... it's a good time to be a Metroid fan!
@DeathByLasagna not sure to be honest! I just wanted the plain, single-game old school Pacman rather than any bundle (at least, I think that was a bundle?)
Maybe it’ll never make a top 10 in a major publication, but I will always love the Noki Bay theme! So tranquil and perfect for that level. Sunshine really did have a brilliant soundtrack. It felt so cohesive, like the worlds themselves
I’ve been a bit stop-and-start with Skyward Sword HD but only due to being busy - have actually been really enjoying it, compared to a lacklustre experience with the Wii version. Will try to make some more progress!
@Jmjfrank I know what you mean about the Switch manual holders. Salt in the wound! Also, I've still got almost all my old manuals from the SNES/N64 era. As a kid I kept them in a Whitman's chocolate box. Kind of weird, but it was the perfect size to store them all together! I still keep them in it.
Memories of poring through the old instructional manual, which I still have. I miss having these manuals with new games. Remembering other great manuals like Ocarina of Time, DKC games, etc - I rarely ever used them for their actual 'instructions' but loved seeing the artwork
This is what troubles me about things like the NES/SNES Online service on Switch. I really just want to own those games, a la Wii Virtual Console, and would happily pay a premium to do so. Ah well
The series has had its missteps but by and large has given us many brilliant titles. Super Metroid in particular will always stay with me as one of the great gaming experiences of my life
Very happy to finally see Baldo with a release date, and quite soon. Will be a likely purchase but might wait on reviews just in case. One concern was that the movement in the gameplay footage looked so sluggish, but maybe only seems an issue when viewing rather than playing
Looks interesting though I might need to read up more on what the actual gameplay involves, as it wasn't clear to me (not being able to read Japanese doesn't help!)
@Yosher fear of clowns has a lot to do with what they call the ‘uncanny valley’, and also the idea that their paint hides their true expression. Though I envy people like yourself who can see them as friends!

Re: 'The Spy Who Shot Me' Brings '90s-Inspired FPS Action To Switch eShop
@Poodlestargenerica no though I did get curious after it was name-dropped in the article. Looks like my jam!
Re: 'The Spy Who Shot Me' Brings '90s-Inspired FPS Action To Switch eShop
Looks tacky, but it's cheap enough and might be fun. Slightly off topic but I did always wish there was an Austin Powers FPS

Re: Soapbox: Losing Control - Why Zelda’s ReDead Strike Fear Into Our Souls
Definitely in my all-time top 5 most unsettling things in Ocarina.
5. Skultula jumpscares
4. ReDeads
3. Dead Hands
2. Floor masters
1. Great Fairies

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
@IronMan30 may it be the summer that George hoped for, and not the one he actually got!
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
Nothing against these games, but there's not much that interests me. Though I'll be busy enough for quite awhile with this year's glut of great titles

Re: Feature: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer #2 Breakdown & Speculation - Everything You Missed
@larryisaman I legitimately didn't know this was an option in BotW. Thanks - hopefully they'll keep the function for this one.
Re: Feature: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer #2 Breakdown & Speculation - Everything You Missed
Ganondorf's voice doesn't really carry any menace to me. Sounds like a cranky neighbour who needs a throat lozenge.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct
I'd love those rumours of a new Donkey Kong to be true. If not, I'd take an original 2D Mario!

Nobody does it better. Except Microsoft, apparently.

Re: Metroid Dread's File Size Is Smaller Than First Thought
Doesn’t matter a whole lot to me, as this is one game where I’m definitely picking up a physical copy. Metroid 5 here we come!
Re: Two Namco Classics Join Hamster's Arcade Archives This Week
@DeathByLasagna not sure to be honest! I just wanted the plain, single-game old school Pacman rather than any bundle (at least, I think that was a bundle?)
Re: Two Namco Classics Join Hamster's Arcade Archives This Week
Always like to have the classic vanilla Pacman on any system that I can, so I picked it up. Was surprised it took this long for it to appear
Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Sound In Video Games?
The sound of hearts filling up in Zelda when you use a fairy or drink a health potion. So satisfying
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 4th)
Not much time for Skyward Sword this weekend so just dipping into some Mario Maker 2, my usual go-to for bite size sessions!

Also, this game looks a little too derivative/bland for my taste, not just from Yoshi but DKC - but lacking their flair

@Yosher fear of clowns has a lot to do with what they call the ‘uncanny valley’, and also the idea that their paint hides their true expression. Though I envy people like yourself who can see them as friends!
Re: Metroid Dread Producer Hopes Fans Look Forward To "Future Episodes" Once The Current Story Arc Concludes
