Re: Two More New Weapons Are Coming To Splatoon Tomorrow

Charlosa

@arronishere Not that I think it's needed, but my guess would be so some people can show the world how much better they are at Splatoon than others... Although let's face it, you can max out at 20 as a mediocre player just though time and perseverance... (Not that I'm suggesting any of the fine people on this forum would resemble that remark)

Re: Splatoon's Ranking Battle 'Splatometer' is Supposedly Creeping Upwards to Unlock Mode

Hi @Boidoh, assuming that your ISP provided your router/firewall have you spoken with them to confirm that its default settings are suitable for online gaming? Do you have any other consoles, such as PS or Xbox and if so do they work properly online? On your Wii U / 3DS, can you browse the Web or connect and download from the Eshop?
At the least I agree with @Tsurii897, it most likely an in issue with your router settings - whether you need to replace it will depend on whether you can change any settings that allow it to work for online gaming... Good luck

Re: Out Now: Splatoon Brings Some Colour to the Wii U

Charlosa

was lucky that my copy arrived on Wednesday, but haven't had much time to play so only up to level 4 I think... Howeve, what I have played have played has been 'Mario Kart' fun and generally the online has stood up really well - 1 disconnect, 1 game with some delayed ink splattering, but otherwise solid play with 8 players available in reasonable time and that was before the official release day of Friday...
Can't wait to properly wrap my tentacles round this....

Re: Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario and Olimar amiibo Now Available for Pre-Order on Official Nintendo UK Store

Charlosa

@Chasloyal And we're back to being defensive...
As a man of international affiliation, I don't feel the need to constrain the use of my English to the boundaries of the United Kingdom and often use terms and words from other countries, not limited to the United States. To insinuate that all those of British birth who use American terms, are from the redneck part of Tennessee is somewhat xenophobic, snobby and Anti-American in the least. As it is the term would be valid all over the States and with your comment, it could be read that you're implying all American's who use the term 'Scalper' are rednecks from Tennessee... But in regards to those of us in the UK who have grown up with American films; television; books; comics; magazines; computer games and any other applicable media, it’s not a surprise that American English terms have slipped into the English we use. Is that really so wrong, considering that some of the English that the American’s use is of older English than our own – Fall for instance is older and purer English than Autumn… For someone who appears to hold roots in both Austria and the UK I do find your attitude somewhat surprising as I would have thought you might have had a more worldly outlook. Maybe I'm wrong...

Back to the point about profiteering (I assume you prefer the use of that word as opposed to scalping) No one would complain about someone who puts something on an Ebay auction at a near RRP price, which through demand of the interested parties was pushed up to 2, 3, 4 or more times the value. What most people take offence of are people clearly starting the price at a point to clearly make an excessive profit in relation to the original value. Granted, if the market is willing to pay the price, then so be it. But you must know that the general consensus of this largely Anglo-American run website and its readership is to be largely against such activities and as such advertising your intent to do so in the manner that you did was always going to rile people.

Here endeth the lesson…

Re: Reminder: The Final Splatoon Global Testfire is on 23rd May

Charlosa

Hoping to play Saturday night, but might be somewhat tipsy if get to
On a slightly different note, but very much Splatoon related, saw a trailer for Splatoon last night in the adverts before Mad Max Fury Road IMAX screening... Kudos to Nintendo UK for picking such a slot before such a high profile movie

Re: Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario and Olimar amiibo Now Available for Pre-Order on Official Nintendo UK Store

Charlosa

Well after waiting for over 24 hours and checking my account every now and then to ensure that they hadn't cancelled my pre-order for all 3, I finally got an email from Ninty last night confirming my order... Phew...

@PinkSpider Pleased to hear that you got sorted at Game - I know how disappointing it can be for little kids and big kids when they can't get the characters that they really want...

@Chasloyal - Pleased to see you took my comments in a sensible way - think it's fair to say that you'd let your fingers run away with themselves on the keyboard, but good to see that everyone appears happy again However, please don't take a £10,000 unique Diddy Kong on ebay as justification to try and over-charge and scalp the sh!t out of those less fortunate in getting these stupid plastic figurines... It tends to wind people up the wrong way

Re: Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario and Olimar amiibo Now Available for Pre-Order on Official Nintendo UK Store

Charlosa

@Chasloyal Not quite sure I'd describe the East London / Essex area as a frontier myself, don't remember the last time I saw any cowboys around here... Although they'd clearly be preferable to insufferable twits, who have nothing better to do than troll online...

Now in regards to your comments and behaviour, do you honestly not realise how you've come across as being no better than a guy showing off about his sports car... Everyone assumes he has a small tanny whacker and I'd hazard a guess that that's what most of the posters of comments on this article are thinking about you after the way you came in to the thread, showing off and then trying to rub it into the faces of those who were unfortunate enough not to get something that they have an interest in...
For a 42 year man-child you seem to be lacking some manners so maybe the next time you pop back to see your dear ol' Ma in Austria you could ask her for a refresher course...

Re: Video: Our Guide to the Splatoon Global Testfire Demo and an Awesome Japanese Trailer

Charlosa

Got to play the 2nd session... Having read the comments following the first session, I wondered what to expect with the handling but after years of having got used to Wii motion controls in games such as Resi 4, I found the targeting such a breeze it made the game so enjoyable... Graphics and audio are top notch and all you've gotta worry about is shooting your opponents without getting splatted yourself
So glad I've got this pre-ordered

Re: Yooka-Laylee Double-Jumps Through Final Kickstarter Stretch Goal In Less Than 24 Hours

Charlosa

@Peach64 I get where you're coming from, but I do honestly believe that with the experience of the people in question that they'll be smart enough to handle the extra money/hype in a practical way...

I also think that looking at the total raised right now that they might wanna start thinking about some more "do-able" stretch goals - maybe a version for the New 3DS (seen as I believe it's able to support the Unity game engine) or maybe the inclusion of a classic game in a virtual arcade cabinet a la DK64 with it's inclusion of the original DK or Jetpac - the extra money could be used to buy the rights to include it... Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom maybe? Think I'd prefer that in comparison to Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards...

Re: Official Nintendo UK Store Announces Pre-Order Launch Times for New Wave of Super Smash Bros. amiibo

Charlosa

Nice one @hybridseed
It's just a shame that you had to go to such lengths to beat the scalpers... And while my email from Nintendo did technically arrive in time to have ordered Thursday's Amiibo's, that was totally dependent on my being able to receive it, read it and get online to order them there and then...
Don't get me wrong I'm really pleased that Amiibo is so popular and must be giving Ninty some extra money to play with, which all being well will be turned into the sort of games Nintendo is renowned for, either directly through the cash investment or indirectly because it gets the share-holders off of the developers backs, but I can't help but wonder how much they're shooting themselves in the foot all the time with the apparent scarcity of so many of them and the negative impression it gives when the scalpers make such a clear profit from their Ninty's inability to supply the fans actual demand...

Re: Official Nintendo UK Store Announces Pre-Order Launch Times for New Wave of Super Smash Bros. amiibo

Charlosa

Had them both in the basket and on the payment page, but had to ask myself why? Why did I want them? I'm not getting every single Amiibo; I'm cherry picking the ones that I want where I can get them and other than buying to sell somewhere down the line, I don't need them... Besides, that would just make me a scalper... So in the hope that the karma fairy will be nice to me tomorrow (those are the ones I actually want) I deleted them from my basket...

Re: Each Splatoon amiibo Will Unlock 20 Special Challenges

Charlosa

As someone who got in quick enough to pre-order the triple Amiibo bundue I'm of course happy to hear that there's so much additional single player content. However, for those not lucky enough, I can see how this could be annoying, especially if the availability of the Amiibo's becomes an issue. I can also understand the feelings of those not interested in buying a load of plastic figurines (some that are nearly impossible to get) in order to unlock certain features / modes.

Re: Video: See for Yourself How 200cc Speed Affects Mario Kart 8 Racing

Charlosa

So looking forward to this. I personally found the sense of speed at 150cc good in MK8, so I can only imagine what 200cc will feel like.
And for all those asking for it to be brought to MK7 - that boat sailed ages ago, so if you want to join the rest of us on the Good Ship Speedy Mario, you better buy a Wii U...

Re: Opinion: Splatoon Is to Shooters what Mario Kart Is to Racers

Charlosa

Personally I think that some people are taking the Mario Kart comparison a tad too literally. Ron's not comparing it to Mario Kart, either in gameplay terms or features. For me the quote made perfect sense in that I see Mario Kart as a fun, accessible racing game. (And yes I do mean racing game – I can be as annoyed as the next person when I’m hit in the last half of the last lap by a triple whammy of Blue Spiny Shell, Red Shell and Green Shell, but it still takes skilled racing to win most races, especially online.)

Likewise I’m seeing Splatoon as a fun, accessible shooting game. Something more akin to the Plunger Gun mini games in Rayman Raving Rabbids, than say COD, but a style of gaming that actually interests me more. That’s why I’m looking at Splatoon with great interest, because apart from anything I’ll be able play it in front of the Mrs without getting the “look” for all the violence, blood and gore on the television screen
