Re: A New Pikmin Game is Coming to 3DS

Chandlero

@rjejr Mario multiplayer games (like Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8) sold well on the WiiU. I don't know why Nintendo didn't invest in a Mario Strikers, Golf etc.
We got a bad Mario Tennis instead...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is Out Today on the Wii U eShop

Chandlero

@TomKnows You can play all Wii games on the GamePad. But if the game is not playable with a classic controller, you can't use the GamePad buttons. Therefore the GamePad is just a small TV in these cases.
I tried playing Metroid Prime Trilogy with the Wii Remote in front of the GamePad. Technically it works really great and the 480p of the GamePad brings the best picture for Wii games. However, the screen is too small when you can't hold the Gamepad in your hands.

Re: Review: Shadow Archer (Wii U eShop)

Chandlero

@Thumbsofsteel I understand that you are missing big HD titles but the GamePad with its 480p display is just perfect for such old-school-titles (of course in Off-TV-mode).

There is no problem that the eShop is full with these low budget games but rather that these are the only new games we get at the moment. Even Nintendo doesn't release any VC titles...

Re: Video: These Five Mario Games Were Never Really Mario Games

Chandlero

@Bobb Maybe the official name was "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" but even in the game cover Nintendo made clear that you have to call the game just "Yoshi's Island"

See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshi%27s_Island

By the way, your story of the game is indeed my story, too It was my first own SNES game that came with my console. Great memories.

The video is funny but the list is not good. Yoshi's Island seems more like a Mario game than Super Mario Kart in the time of there releases. And in that manner Tetris Attack is not a Mario game since there is no Mario, only Yoshis and other characters of Yoshi's Island.

Re: Review: Pokémon Snap (Wii U eShop / N64)

Chandlero

@Other_Dave But as I remembered there was a special German version for the N64. So you couldn't switch between Languages and this is the version Nintendo released in the Wii-Shop (in Germany).

In the eShop I just find an English version which is probably the 60Hz version.

Re: Video: Watch Super Mario World Get Beaten in Under 16 Minutes, Blindfolded

Chandlero

Blindfolded is a great category but not for speedrunning. Beating a level is the success and not the best time. Time doesn't matter here.

You have to focus on sound effects and your memory. I think that Yoshi's Island is great to watch:

@Tsurii It is much more than remember all button inputs since a human is not a computer. We don't have a millisecond accurate inner clock. Therefore you have to hear the game and know when to push to button after some sounds and so on. Of course a game like Mario world where you are running the whole time is more boring than a game with some RNG in it. Ocarina of Time blindfolded is very great to watch

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th August (Europe)

Chandlero

@VanillaLake Yes, you can play TTYD in all glory on the WiiU. However, even homebrew didn't get an Off-TV mode with GamePad controls. So it would be so great having this offer from Nintendo.

Of course, this will never happen. I just have to play the game on my GameCube again

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th August (Europe)

Chandlero

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Oh yeah. I had to. I wrote that you were right about SPM being overpriced but then you changed the whole post and said most Wii eshop games are way overpriced. I don't want to agree on that...

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th August (Europe)

Chandlero

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yes, you are right. Since Super Paper Mario is a Nintendo Select game, you can pick a less expensive retail version, easily!

By the way: It is slightly disturbing that you always edit your post after the first statement is just a short sentence. Is it so important to be the first on the page?

Re: Metroid Composer Shares Personal Note About the 30th Anniversary

Chandlero

@shaneoh Very true: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U91hN0r32s (Or did you mean the first theme which is also great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mziw3FQkZYg )
Metroid Prime did a great job in every regard but especially in music. They covered known tracks beautifully and add new ones like Tallon Overworld with old music samples.

I should play all Metroid games again. Maybe this could be a run trough all games in two days

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Hunters (Wii U eShop / DS)

Chandlero

@Dr_Corndog Without save states I wouldn't recommend the first game to anyone. It is a pain in the ass, to start with 30 energy points after every death.
Yes, it was challenging in the 30 years ago (Birthday incoming) but now, it is way to hard and time-consuming.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Hunters (Wii U eShop / DS)

Chandlero

I remember playing the demo that came with my DS (my first imported console). I used the thumb-stylus and I really thought that a touch screen in combination with such a thumb-thing could substitute a control stick. I worked fine for Mario 64 DS as well but it seems Nintendo dropped this idea.

I never played the full game but maybe I should do it now

Re: Hardware Classics: Pokémon Mini

Chandlero

Nice article. I didn't take this console seriously back in 2001. It really seemed like a joke compared to the modern GBA.
However, after all a compact a small console, is a great thing. I always loved the GameBoy Micro
