As a German, I am always confused when "Luftwaffe" is chosen as a fixed historical name... You should know that it just means "Air Force", and the German air army still wears this name today.
SNES: 49.10 million
A link to the past: 4,6 million
WiiU + Switch: around 20 million
BotW: around 5 million
I don't see that huge difference here. Nintendo wants to sell 115 million units of Switch. That is just factor 2.
However, the developer costs of BotW are wayyyy bigger than that of AlttP.
Xenoblade 2 costs 60 EUR/$. That is less than I paid for Secret of Mana more than 20 years ago. And that doesn't even include inflation!
So therefore I can buy Xenoblade 2 for 60 EUR and play it. If I like it or want to play more after the end, I can purchase another part of the game. That is very fair. And I still have the option to choose not wasting more money on the game.
By the way: I don't see the logic behind buying the season pass upfront. Why are you buying an expansion pack before you need to? It is not like that it will be out of stock, will be getting more expensive or will vanish suddenly. Can someone explain me this?
@Savino @MoonKnight7 : I have a complete different opinion here: By Nintendo's approach, Miiverse became the family-friendly social network the internet was missing.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE: I am very disappointed that Nintendo didn't try to alter Miiverse instead of shutting it down. And Super Mario Maker without comments is not the same. Bad move, Nintendo.
@setezerocinco: "Let them eat cake" Perhaps, some WiiU owners are not happy with the Switch and don't want to buy a console for a WiiU game they already have??
@HopeNForever You don't need the dual screen for Mario Maker. Seriously, I never saw the second screen of the game since I play the game only on the WiiU GamePad. However, the other points you mentioned are totally valid. I agree. Mario Maker would only work as a handheld only game when it comes to creating levels. Then not having a resistive touchscreen and stylus is a big disadvantage for the game.
Nevertheless, there is no alternative. Nintendo trimmed Super Mario Maker now and doesn't give any functional updates anymore. There is no other way than bringing the game to Switch. Such a nice concept must not die.
@Honelith: Miiverse could have been improved and used on Switch. Okay, maybe it was too expensive for Nintendo and I understand it. But the implementation in WiiU games was just great. The Plaza when starting the WiiU was nice, the messages in games was a social interaction one normally doesn't have in single player game and, finally, the live comments in Super Mario Maker levels were perfect. A lot of levels were also built on this feature by using quiz questions, giving hints or jokes. I really liked it!
Therefore, pulling the plug on Miiverse is too early but ripping Super Mario Maker apart is a slap in the face of every Mario Maker fan.
@thesilverbrick: We really lowered our expectations here, didn't we? Super Mario Maker is just 2 years old! And the game is time-less in its structure. Regardless, Nintendo doesn't offer us any comment function what so ever. It is really a poor move, here.
@Alikan: I am not willing to buy for each game another plastic case, controller or other things to fill up the gaps Nintendo gave us with its controller design.
I see the Nintendo Switch as an awesome portable device but having poor control sticks and no D-Pad on the go is a huge disadvantage.
@Late "Sharing the joy" was always a half-baked solution. Playing Mario Kart with this small thing in your hands is okay for one race but that's it. Thankfully, we could now switch to GameCube controllers
@PurinPuff Of course, Mario Maker is still functional, just without commenting function. However, I find it unacceptable that Nintendo don't include a new commentating function in Super Mario Maker. The game is just two years old and comments are essential for creating levels...
@Light: The dispute here is not "retail" vs. "download" but that the retail version is just a download code...
Of course, the industry is shifting to downloads, e.g., for music. But if I buy, nevertheless, a CD, I would expect that I can listen to the music without downloading it..
@Light: By the way: I found my first GameBoy in the attic last weekend. I put Metroid II into it and played the whole day this game. All this worked fine after 25 years. That is also life. Too sad that the Switch doesn't offer you this...
@OorWullie: XCX is not a good comparison. The game was fully playable from the disc. The download packages were just for smoothing the experience in loading times, which is exactly the advantage of switch card over discs..
@SLIGEACH_EIRE: Retro Studios gave us the best 2D-Platformer. I don't see a problem here.
@G0dlike: Retro Studios was working on their on IPs in GameCube times, Ravenblade, I think. However, in my opinion, they reinvented Nintendo's great IPs in the best way.
@shani: Of course, it is a portable console. Everybody knows that. However, there is not just an HDMI output but a whole functional concept included. By putting it in the dock and using the detached joycons, it works like a home console. The numbers above show us that this hybrid concept accepted. There, I don't see your point.
Nevertheless, you are right by saying that Nintendo left the traditional home console market. They also did this with the Wii.
@H1B1Esquire: Of course, I just tried to help with my comment. I always confused by not having save files in games anymore. However, hard mode gives you a second file besides the normal mode.

Re: GameShell Looks Like A Game Boy, But Offers So Much More
@Oat Nice sense of humor in the otherwise matter-of-fact presentation of the product.
Re: Nintendo is Close to a Major Deal for a New Mario Bros. Movie
Ohh noo.
Re: GameShell Looks Like A Game Boy, But Offers So Much More
@Prof_Yoshtonics: That is the good thing. You can use your own buttons, if you want to

I am very interested. I am in

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Has Embraced DLC, But Must Resist The Worst Industry Norms
@Masurao: To be fair: Japan had more deflations than inflations over the last 20 years. However, your example still works.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Has Embraced DLC, But Must Resist The Worst Industry Norms
@Shane76: Yes, we do:

Re: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of DOOM on Nintendo Switch
@BlueOcean: Sorry, wrong person mentioning. However, I never tease you?!
Nevertheless, the question remains: Is Doom in docked in higher resolution or with more effects than in portable mode?
Re: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of DOOM on Nintendo Switch
@yeayeanaynay : Can you explain what are the differences in docked and portable mode for Doom?
Re: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of DOOM on Nintendo Switch
@yeayeanaynay Why does he have to own a Switch to comment on a youtube video here?
Re: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of DOOM on Nintendo Switch
By porting they only considered the portable mode? Is there any difference between portable and docked at all?

Re: Super Mario Odyssey and Nintendo Switch Continue Strong Run in Japan
@Si2k78: I have a problem playing virtual WWII battles, knowing that my grandfather fought them in real and lost most of his family there.
Re: Super Mario Maker Updates Are Now Live
@shani Sadly, this is true. Super Mario Maker without a comment function is less functional...
Re: Super Mario Odyssey and Nintendo Switch Continue Strong Run in Japan
I am still shocked that World War II can be popular in Japan.. The same in Germany..

Re: The Latest Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gift Aims to Get Your Gear Up to Scratch

My WiiU is very much alive and I am perfectly playing BotW.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Champions' Ballad DLC is Set for a December Release
I am looking forward for this. Christmas season would be perfect for playing more hours in BotW
Re: Super Mario Maker Updates Are Now Live
Very embarrassing that one of the biggest video game companies isn't able to bring a new comment function for a game that is only 2 years old. Shame!

We need real D-Pads and real/bigger control sticks. Hopefully, Nintendo will release such Joy-Cons in future...
Re: Talking Point: The Case for Super Mario Odyssey as the Greatest Mario Game
@Turbo857 Mario 64 is still an enjoyment for me, even after SOM. No hand-holding, nice underwater levels and perfect controls.

I still think that it is a mistake to discontinue Miiverse on Switch...
Re: You Won't Be Able To Download L.A. Noire Without A MicroSD Card
@kobashi100: The calculation is more or less unfunded but it really doesn't matter here. As in the old days, the publisher has three choices:
(1) Release the game on the needed cartridge.
(2) Cut and compress the game such that it fits on the wanted cartridge.
(3) Just release a download code in a retail package.
These are discrete options and superimposing or interpolating them is just pure nonsense.

Re: Random: Did Reggie Just Accidentally Reveal Switch's Next Big Game Announcement?
Tropical Freeze became my favourite game in the last 10 years. Even a port to Switch would be a good idea.

Re: Nintendo Gamers Prefer Using Switch As A Handheld Rather Than Docked
@Ralizah Absolutely correct. The graphic speaks for itself and the headline is just wrong.
Re: More UK Gamers Bought The Wii Version Of Just Dance 2018 Than Switch, Xbox One Or Wii U
I would also buy SNES games if there would be new releases. I see no problem using old hardware for "good" games. "Good" is, of course, subjective.
