Still a great game, but the DLC was just not so enthralling. Getting more shrines and shrines was not what I expected from a STORY DLC. I didn't touch the DLC after beating the Great Plateau.
@Savlep99 Very valid point here. SMO was a great marketing coup. It can happen with Metroid again, or, on the other hand, Metroid could be like BotW with a long waiting time. In the end, it doesn't matter: Both games became excellent.
@Danpal65 Yes, it is funny However, the article itself is misleading. "[...]casually play about with it for a while[...]" is not what he did, obviously.
Glad to see that not all of the millions of Wii consoles live in the attic. A console wants to be played. And Mario Kart never gets old. By the way, Mario Kart Wii is the perfect Mario Kart for young children.
@impurekind Unfortunately, international patent and copyright fights are a complex matter. If you are not a big company with the right money resources, you should simply stay out of it.
However, the "boy" part, the design and even the retro-bit logo are just asking for problems..
By the way, I am looking forward to my GameShell. I am hope that will work out
"Dr Richard Graham, lead technology addiction specialist at the Nightingale Hospital in London, welcomed the decision to recognise the condition. [...]
He said he sees about 50 new cases of digital addiction each year and his criteria is based on whether the activity is affecting basic things such as sleep, eating, socialising and education."
@Equinox It adds a new layer to a game. After finishing a game, you can play it again, but you need new challenges to make it interesting. Completing a level as fast as possible is very addictive.
That reminds me that Rare developed "Diddy Kong Racing DS" a few years ago. Therefore, Rare could develop a Switch game as a remake as well, when there is an agreement wit Microsoft on this matter.
@MegaMari0: Better would be: "in an alternate reality where Rare still creates good games"
By the way, why shouldn't Nintendo release a remake of Diddy Kong Racing in this universe? They should still have all the rights to the game. Just some (most?) characters belong to Rare. Maybe, this is a complicated legal mix...
"In a parallel universe where Nintendo didn't sell Rare to Microsoft [...]"
Repeating doesn't make it true...
Nintendo didn't sell Rare. They just didn't buy Rare at any time. Yes, they had got 49% stake, but they never increased it and didn't buy Rare when Rare was searching a buyer. Then Microsoft did it and obviously Nintendo had to sell the rest of the stake.
I am not happy when someone shortens this to: Nintendo sold Rare.
"vindicating Nintendo's decision to release the game on its outgoing console"
What? The vindication comes now from Amazon sales?? Not releasing a finished WiiU game would have been a slap in the face for all Nintendo fans. Just because Nintendo (and Nintendolife) ditched the WiiU very fast, doesn't mean that all consoles stopped working.
@Ensemen Yes, it is a lot of work but Nintendo is not a small indie developer. They developed the Switch port of BotW in a year, so new playable characters in 9 months is possible, in all means.
On the other side, I personally didn't expect new characters or new gameplay. However, I did expect some story elements. Or at least an explanation why Link has to do some crazy stuff on the Great Plateau...
Without a big story opening, the DLC didn't catch me...
I love the game and still discover this huge world. But I have no intention to solve again some shrine puzzles when there is no story behind it.
I will try again to play the DLC next year. For now, I will focus on other things.
@greengecko007 What is your point here? Why does the service suck? Paywall, really!? Every new game has paywall since the games costs money. And by looking at DLC prices these days, this 5$ is very fair.
As a Nintendo player since Super Mario Bros. in 1990, I must admit: BotW is the most fascinating game I ever played. I am still amazed by the game. Thank you!
@Steven_the_2nd: That is a funny picture. But do you know how much Nintendo gets? Is it a fixed amount of 5$ per year and low percentage of the rest? Or is it a high percentage? It would be interesting to know.
By the way: Send me a link of your videos. If I like them, I will gladly donate you 6$. I always donate since I use an ad blocker and I am willing to pay directly for good work.
@Octane Of course, you are allowed to stream as much as you want. You just are not allowed to make money with advertisement. Donations are no problem at all.
EDIT: Sorry, I misunderstood you before, I think. Of course, you are right if the whole channel is in the program. In this case, the streamer needs another channel or has to switch to registering each video to the program.
@ennan If you put time and effort in a script and even alter the gameplay footage, then you don't need Nintendo's permission to earn money from your videos. It is all about the editorial work that changes the sources. The same holds for movie reviews, song covers and so on.
And to be honest: Most Let's play videos don't have a script and no editing involved. Therefore, the Creators program is a nice thing: You can just play and upload without legal problems and earn money.
@KingMike: The game was even localised for Europe with German and French text in 1998. It is interesting to see that there was indeed some interest in such a game. The publisher for Europe was Nintendo itself.
By the way: The EU game cover is the best of all and the whole reason I bought the game in 1998

I hope that we have Zelda Symphony concerts this year such that we can see more of this awesome cosplay
Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze And Hyrule Warriors Are Coming To Switch
@Luffymcduck I do the same. Best music for on-the-go I also can recommend David Wise's tracks in Yooka Layle.

Re: Nintendo's Norwegian Site Triggers Speculation That Bayonetta 3 And Metroid Prime 4 Could Launch This Year
@GrailUK And MP4 was just a logo, not an actual game. However, both were announcements of games that will be released in future.

@Danpal65 He is a pro Tetris player. That was no "accident", he was just focussing on getting another world record.
Re: Random: Mario Kart Wii Made Amazon's Top 100 Games In December
@Octane @Pluto14 It is bizarre, since there is a official Nintendo Selects Edition for 29,99 EUR, at least in Europe.

Re: Retro-Bit Puts Super Retro Boy On Hold Following Game Boy Trademark Renewal

Miiverse, I miss you...
Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addition As A Mental Disorder
I know people who doesn't want to play games because they are afraid of getting an addiction, like it is a real hard drug...
Nonetheless, gaming addiction is a real thing and the WHO doesn't say that all gamers have a disorder. A lot of gamers are overreacting, here.

Re: Pokémon, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Nintendo Switch Lead the Way in Japanese Charts
Very nice. For comparison, here the first week sales of the other two/three Xenoblade games:
Xenoblade Chronicles: 82.952
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D: 56.932
Xenoblade Chronicles X: 85.586
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 97.732
And this is, of course, without digital sales, which should be much higher for XC2 than for the others.

Nintendo's Creators Program is a good move: It allows gamers to earn money in a legal way. I don't understand where all the hate comes from.
