World Records may be tumbling in the Olympic Games in Rio, but there are also new marks to be set in the speedrunning community. Panga, who we've featured in the past thanks to his outrageously complicated Super Mario Maker creations, has reclaimed the record for the fastest blindfolded run of Super Mario World.
Having seen his record taken off him he got under the 16 minute mark, which involves some tricky manoeuvres and shortcuts. You can see the run below from the 2:29 mark, though we should warn you there's a little bit of strong language at times.
It's a hugely impressive feat, demonstrating complete familiarity and mastery of the game.
That'll be a tough record to beat, until Panga tries it again - he reckons a flawless run can go under 14 minutes.

I could play it blindfolded .. and die multiple times, but I could still play it !
I can play DDR with blindfolded for certain songs.
But i will never able to play Mario games with blinfolded.
How did he know where is the road or the hole ?
Nice one, Panga, now play through your own Super Mario Maker courses blindfolded!
I struggle with this game using all my senses and using save points. Remarkable.
Blindfolded is a great category but not for speedrunning. Beating a level is the success and not the best time. Time doesn't matter here.
You have to focus on sound effects and your memory. I think that Yoshi's Island is great to watch:

@Tsurii It is much more than remember all button inputs since a human is not a computer. We don't have a millisecond accurate inner clock. Therefore you have to hear the game and know when to push to button after some sounds and so on. Of course a game like Mario world where you are running the whole time is more boring than a game with some RNG in it. Ocarina of Time blindfolded is very great to watch
I was about to call bovine fecal matter on several stunts... but then again, this is Panga... my jaw is still on the floor.
@Anti-Matter Memorization.
I always wonder why they are facing the TV, they could see something and nobody would know... If they need sound cues they could use headphones.
This is beyond me how people can pull off stuff like this. I have a hard enough time beating it with 20/20 vision (with corrective lenses of course).
Let's see him do the special world blindfolded. That would take serious skillz...
Say whaaaat?!
@Tsurii Honestly, I never fully watch these, not even speedruns. Watching them is not interesting for me, it's just the accomplishment that counts.
