So that's your lot for this week's North American Nintendo Download. Go on, be a sport and drop a vote in the poll above, and comment below with your hot picks!
I've already got Theatrhythm loaded and ready to go. Sadly, work responsibilities come first, so I have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to really sink my teeth into this one.
But there's no rush; plenty of game here to enjoy.
Theatrhythm Final Bar Line has my attention but I was quite shocked at the Price if you want everything. Over €100 for a Rhythm game is really pushing it.
Wow. That is a LOT OF GAMES. Unfortunately, I caved in and bought Metroid Prime Remastered on Saturday, because the price tag was too low to just gloss over. And, for the THEATRHYTHM FINAL BAR LINE, is it just FF music featured, or is there any other Square Enix franchises there too for dlc or cameos, like kingdom hearts or dragon quest?
Pixel Remasters on Switch WHEN
It is almost exclusively Final Fantasy music in the base game. The premium edition, or buying individual DLC packs, is the only way to get music from other Square-Enix franchises, including SaGa, Mana, Nier, The World Ends With You, Chrono, etc.
However, there is no Kingdom Hearts or Dragon Quest music featured. For those, you'll need Melody of Memory (exclusively KH music) on Switch/PS4, or Theatrhythm Dragon Quest (Japan exclusive, only on 3DS).
Thanks again! I was only using those two franchises as examples, but I didn’t actually know Dragon Quest had it’s own theatrhythm-like! Japan only though is a little sad. But yeah, I figured the dlc would add the likes of other franchises like Mana and Nier, I just didn’t know which ones.
If you check the eShop page for the Premium edition of the game, you can see the comprehensive list of DLC packs and songs coming out. Depending on your preferences, you can either spend the extra $40 to get it all, or just pick and choose a few favorites.
Theatrhythm Dragon Quest on 3DS is import friendly, provided you have hardware to run it (Japanese 3DS or a modded machine), as the game plays near identical to any other Theatrhythm game. Once upon a time you could find it on Amazon for as low at $18 (what I paid for it), but a quick search shows the price has jumped considerably ($67).
If you're a fan, I'd recommend picking it up, if only to download the DLC tracks for that game from the eShop before the closure. All of them were free, and were mostly original NES renditions of classic tracks.
@Browny Yeah, price jumps for retro games have been a concern in recent years. As for the FF theatrhythm, I will definitely take a look out of curiosity once I get home later. I appreciate the help as well!
I didn't know they were remaking Montezuma's Revenge! Hi, I'm older than the hills, and I used to play this game!
I pre-ordered the physical copy of Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, but I won't be picking it up until tomorrow, because then I can pick up both it and Tales of Symphonia Remastered.
I got Blanc earlier this week... can't wait to play it.
@Pak-Man Same! I think we had a pirated copy for our Commodore 64 when I was a kid. Guess it's finally time to own it for real.
I checked the Wii U eShop today and to my surprise 2 new games popped up that are not mentioned here.
Silver Falls - White Inside Its Umbra
Silver Falls - Undertakers.
Any developer willing to release games so close to the end is at least worth a look.
I wonder how well games like Falling Elevator – Hyper Casual Demolish Escape Survival Game or Deep Space:Action Fire Sci-Fi Game 2023 Shooter Strike Simulator Alien Death Ultimate Games end up selling.
Are we the same person or did everyone have a thousand pirated games for the Commodore 64?
Where are the two Wii U games that launched today?
@Pak-Man "I didn't know they were remaking Montezuma's Revenge! Hi, I'm older than the hills, and I used to play this game!"
I used to play this on ColecoVision (ask your grandpa kids!).
Before Metroid, before Castlevania, before the NES (in America anyway), the (possibly) original Metroidvania...Montezuma's Revenge.
Got Theatrhythm and Tales of Symphonia physical, I'll eventually get Digimon World and the Ninja JaJaMaru collections, maybe also Dust & Neon and Montezuma’s Revenge (didn't know about it before, but I might check it out thanks to @Pak-Man and @MontyCircus talking about it)!
Now we just need Jumpman to release on Switch.
@JohnnyMind "Montezuma’s Revenge (didn't know about it before, but I might check it out thanks to @Pak-Man and @MontyCircus talking about it)!"
Keep in mind, it's old though. Came out the same year as Tetris was created in Russia, Steve Jobs introduced the Macintosh computer, and crack cocaine was invented.
It was definitely captivating to me 40 years ago, but I'm not sure it would interest 2023 eyes, unless you have a high interest in retro gaming or in investigating the earliest roots of metroidvanias.
I run a retro gaming poll on Reddit, and Montezuma's Revenge ended up the #41 best game of the Atari era (roughly 1976-1984), between Super Breakout and Manic Miner.
@MontyCircus Didn't have an Atari, but did have at least an NES as a kid thanks to my older siblings so I'd probably be fine, I do have interest in retro gaming at least to some extent and I'm definitely curious about the earliest roots of Metroidvanias!
By the way, always appreciate when you mention your polls/rankings, they're quite interesting!
