Re: Nintendo Switch Now Supports Digital Game Sharing, But There's A Catch

BowtieShyGuy

@RunGMhx It works like XBL worked back in the day (dunno how that changed since then, since I haven't used my 360 since 2011 or so):

The "Primary Switch" (where you created your account) can play everything offline, if you want to play your games at a friend's place, the profile that bought the game has to be online at all times (or the game will pause).

In theory, it is possible to share games that way, but is certainly against Nintendo's TOS and is only meant to enable gamers to play Download games with friends, e.g. when you played Splatoon on your brother's console, want to show it your friend, but your brother needs it on a Mario Kart tournament.

Re: Video: Here's Another Look At Isabelle In Action In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

BowtieShyGuy

@Sebas I think "Luigified" are more of an issue to some as these actually "waste a slot", while Echoes are "something extra".

But to be fair - Sakurai always stated clones don't take a potential spot as they are easier to balance. I think the "Echo-Fighters" is just a marketing scheme anyways to clearly communicate to everyone that they aren't stealing any spotlight. Because to me, it seems kinda arbitrary which chars are echoes and which aren't.

Re: Nintendo Is Launching Brand New Starter Packs For Top Switch Games In North America

BowtieShyGuy

@th3r3ds0x Well, that was the point of my reply.
People complain about Nintendo not doing the downwards spiral in terms of race to the lowest price, but that's really because their products are of a quality and that the customer keeps paying the price. I saw Local stores even asking 60€ for a new copy of Pokémon White 2 (inlcuding the sticker that tells customers that online features have been abandoned by now).

If Mario games ever declined in quality like e.g. the Sonic games I bet they would face the same fate. It's an easy offer versus demand calculation.

Re: Random: English Voice Actor Of Goku Assures Fan He Hasn't Recorded Lines For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

BowtieShyGuy

@UmbreonsPapa At the Smash Ballot it specifically said twice that you can nominate Video Game characters: https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/100/087/2ca.jpg

One could stretch it and argue Goku appeared in games, but Sakurai also said with the Bayonetta reveal that only characters originating from video games were considered for the ranking.

Rules can change ofc, but it does make sense they set their limits that way.

Re: Random: English Voice Actor Of Goku Assures Fan He Hasn't Recorded Lines For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

BowtieShyGuy

@BensonUii That's a valid point, and I'm not saying it's impossible, just very, very unlikely, at least talking about Ultimate. With all the stuff packed in there I think Nintendo would want to cut back down on content before they invite a whole different universe - especially one that has several different licence holders all over the world.
And yeah, of course these are all just assumptions from what I've witnessed how Nintendo likes to act out.

They do however need to communicate very clearly why they picked Goku over other fighters from other non-gaming media, and that in a way so that even the most dense fans get it.
For example:
Clones were always hated in Smash because people thought till SSB4 that "they are taking away a spot" - while actually, they were just something extra, as clones are easier to balance than a whole new character. If they didn't want to include clones, it would essentially mean less characters in the roster.
Now that most are re-branded as "Echo Fighters" everyone seems to be okay with it and suddenly get the concept.

Re: Random: English Voice Actor Of Goku Assures Fan He Hasn't Recorded Lines For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

BowtieShyGuy

@BensonUii "Also Lucario appeared on a Pokemon movie first before in a Pokemon game. But he made it on Smash."

That comparison doesn't work. The anime was always there to promote the games, not viceversa. Pokémon of the next generation were always teased a bit earlier in the anime.

Fore example: It's no coincidence that the "reboot" movie for the 20th anniversary rewrote the plot to include Ho-Oh, Suicune, Entei and Raikou to promote mainly the re-release of Pokémon Gold and Silver (and them being Raid-Bosses in Pokémon Go around the movie's release) while also officially introducing Marshadow (also part of the plot). That was all to advertise Monsters connected to their main franchises.

We don't have a situation here like with Marvel comics adding Agent Coulson to their plots because they liked the new character in the movies. The Anime can't just invent Pokémon.
Only very rarely special forms cross over (Ash-Greninja and the Pikachus with Ash's cap are the only exceptions).

Re: Mighty No. 9 Developer Comcept Remains Tight-Lipped About Handheld Releases

BowtieShyGuy

@90sRetroGaming That's the thing about crowdfunding, especially on sites like kickstarter: The developers don't owe you anything. A friend of mine had the brilliant idea of backing a kickstarter to get a mocap-syctem for 900 bucks (because it worked out with the oculus rift before for him).
He never got the mocap system because the company went bankrupt before...

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Will Feature A Single-Player Classic Mode

BowtieShyGuy

@NEStalgia Who says he can't be both? A boss in Story-Mode AND a stage hazard (which due to the wording might only appear at certain times like midnight, I think).

Also: SC5 didn't have an outfleshed Story Mode but two character films for each fighter in their form of "Classic" Mode and some kind of Adventure Mode that was more like "Event-Mode" (talking in Smash-Terms) with a text narrative (so no videos).

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Will Feature A Single-Player Classic Mode

BowtieShyGuy

@Cobalt That's not true, they said they will REVEAL every character before the game releases - so leaks like with Smash 4 (where everyone knew Duck Hunt Duo was in prior to the game's release because of an ESRB leak) won't be possible.

As said on E3, the original Smashers will be unlocked, the rest is unlockable (though I don't remember if this meant theoriginal 8 or original 12, thus including the unlockables).

Re: Funko Wants To Know What Pocket Monster Pop You Would Like Added To Its New Pokémon Line

BowtieShyGuy

@Asaki Thank you!

I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but I really don't understand why they are so popular. I mean, I can understand why you'd want 1 or 2 of them... but how can they take up so much shelf-space that comic- and used game stores seem to sell only those?

I really want to understand the hype. Would I also be able to sell mllions of figures when I make one design and then apint the colours of branded characters all over it?

Re: Reaction: Pokémon Shuffle Isn't Quite Microtransaction Hell, But It's Getting There

BowtieShyGuy

@rusellohh: This technique doesn't work in normal stages. This game removes the time-limit mechanic from Pokémon Trozei and replaces it with a turns-mechanic. Therefore, to prevent people from clumsily wasting their turns only turns that actually do damage are allowed. Just as in Bejeweled.

I wouldn't say it doesn't need any skill just because a technique is missing. It's just a very different challenge: The challenge to foresee the chain reactions you are creating and choosing the best outcome there is. Or how to build a pattern like this by making chains WITHOUT making it collapse.

Try to play until Stage 31 or so. I got to 46 and still didn't pay a single penny and got 3 gems left from in-game drops (you get one after every Mega-Evoltuion Boss). I didn't even use any coins, not even for Mew.

There are Extra-Stages however which swap turns for time. You can swap items as you wish.
Though the limits are very tight: from 30 seconds to like 2 minutes, even expanding gives just extra 10 seconds with coins and 15 with a gem.
You have to catch a lot of Pokémon to unlock more. 35 mon or so got me 6 stages till now.

Re: Reaction: Pokémon Shuffle Isn't Quite Microtransaction Hell, But It's Getting There

BowtieShyGuy

Oh, and don't trust any reviews that come online till now. The game is out three days. Every complaint I hear in the reviews a re complains that I had the first day. In that destructoid review it sound like any Pokémon after a certain stage just gives you 3%. Actually it's just the extra stages and some pretty useful 'mon that are that low. Up to Stage 40 most Pokémon still have a default ctahc rate of 30% or 50%, which I usually raised up to 60-70% on the first try, which is still pretty good.

Don't know if this changes up higher, but at that point you should have around 40 'mon available which can make catching Pokémon easier since you can play out their weaknesses.

Re: Reaction: Pokémon Shuffle Isn't Quite Microtransaction Hell, But It's Getting There

BowtieShyGuy

The event-stage isn't overly hard. Okay, I didn't win at my first try like the others, but after some time I beat it without paying. Catching is another story, but you can level up Pokémon to do more damage and get Pokémon that are super-effective against them to increase hits and catch rate. With this I could even beat 3-turn and 5-turn stages without spending even in-game currency, and I don't think I spend a lot of time thinking about my turns. I just put together some 'mon and where like "oh, a 3-chain...5...8... nice, didn't see that coming."

So I think in the end it won't be impossible to catch all the 'mon, you just have to get used to some different playstyles if you don't wnat to spend real money. Like rushing through the game and getting back to some monsters later when you either leveled enough, got enough super-effective monsters or just need that particular monster to boost your team for the enxt battle.

Plus: You get 500 coins every day you connect to the internet to check for events which boosts getting coins a little. So you can get a super ball every 5 days even without playing.

Re: Nintendo Ends Partnership With Austrian Distributor Stadlbauer, Confirms Plans For Regional Office

BowtieShyGuy

@speedreeder: Actually I was quite satisfied with Stadlbauer's repair services. A friend of mine even got his account back after his 3DS was stolen.

I was a part of the Austrian Nintendo club. Yes, they charged 5€ per year, but they offered really cool community events and contests were your chances of winning were pretty high. I'm sure I got way more than those 5€ back. And they had a real nice and friendly forum! I really only missed the Stars catalog which Stadlbauer only couldn't do because they had issues with Nintendo Europe over it.

Too bad this era is over now, but I hope we are FINALLY allowed to take part in german contests. It really sucks that even after June 2013, were NoE took over, the terms of service still list only Germans can partake... even though I can order from the Stars Catalogue!
