Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Release Date Worries Me, But Hopefully I'm Wrong

BowtieShyGuy

@Rika_Yoshitake Lol, the first trailer of BotW (also a year before release) showed us 2 minutes of new or revamped gameplay mechanics, wild life, and an extra minute of just different environments.

Arceus 2:30 only had a minute of Gameplay, and even then they struggled to probably fill that with content. We see that one village from the same angle three times, only rocky glasslands you can throw together in a few hours with today's terrain creation tools and Pokémon not interacting, just idling... and frame dropping while doing so.

I wouldn't mind about this if this was an early reveal... but it's less than a year to go... and TPC opened preorders with this trailer.

It either means that they didn't have better footage to use for one minute of gameplay (this was not a playable demo or uncommented Gameplay, this was an edited trailer), or they thought the standard was good enough to get Pokémon fans to preorder.

Both is concerning for an Open World Game. Especially one made by the biggest Franchise on the planet.

Re: Feature: Best Visual Novels For Nintendo Switch

BowtieShyGuy

I actually have Cofee Talk in my Steam Library due to some humble bundle. Guess I should give that a go some time.

Also surprised Aviary Attorney didn't make the list, though I only know it makes fun of Phoenix Wright and it got good reviews on NL.

Re: Does Your Copy Of Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Still Work?

BowtieShyGuy

Realized mine was dead a while ago. Sold my boxed copy to a reseller for 20 bucks and bit the bullet and paid 44€ for the digital version to save my save file.

It probably would have been enough to save them via Pokémon Home, but I didn't wanna risk getting a new copy and that not working either...

I'm surprised this is newsworthy now. When I looked into this, all the comments I've found online said it's common, thus I didn't expect anyone to bother and patch this.

Re: PSA: How To Use The "Safety Goggles" That Come With The Birthday Suit Collector's Edition Of Gal*Gun Returns

BowtieShyGuy

@TheFullAndy What the NintendoLife article is missing is that the plot is that a cupid accidentally hit the protag with a love arrow.

You explained this dynamic as if this is something to be sought after, which it is not by the game's dynamic. This "love curse" prevents the player from getting to the girl he actually likes (thus, making the girls obstacles in the game). He shoots the girls with the "pheromone shot" to get away from them, not to "be empowered over them"

Yes, the PR is misleading (to get both horny teens and people with prejudice) to talk about the game. Yes, it pokes fun at sexual bishoujo tropes.

But other than games like DoA Xtreme 3 with lackluster gameplay that is just an excuse to unlock borderline porn, this has actual gameplay in it and is more about being silly than being lewd. Especially if you like rail-shooter-gameplay but don't like blood, this could be an alternative.

Also, it's totally okay if you are not a fan of these kind of games. But I think it's ridiculous to waste a whole lot of time worrying over a headline - especially when trying to force your own political agendas upon others - while not even spending two seconds looking into the matter.

Re: Custom-Made Etika Joy-Con Which Raised $10k For Charity Fell Foul Of Copyright Claim, Creator Reveals

BowtieShyGuy

@DCorp I think your response was really well-written and did a good job in summarizing all points at hand. It's easy to jump to conclusions and only listen to the site you support, so I really appreciate you taking all sites into consideration without being biased.

Personally, I think Cptn_Alex lost even more credit after he voiced his perosnal opinion on the relationship of Etika and his brother (in the "Here's my receipts"-Tweet). Even if his claims were true, he should really not voice his pinion at this point as he has literally no relation with Etika before making those shells.

However, I won't get any further into this, because as DCorp said, distancing yourself from it is the best you can do atm.

Re: It Looks Like Kadabra Can Finally Return To The Pokémon Trading Card Game

BowtieShyGuy

@BulbasaurusRex Right, I confused that with a pentagram.

I also think the first card that was shown to him was a "Team Rocket Kadabra", which got the whole "evil" idea stuck in his head.

Plus, them not exactly being the same still doesn't take away how it COULD be taken as a reference to said signs - but was altered. Just like everyone knows that Antony Hynkel's army is a reference to Nazi Germany, despite them wearing XX on their arm sleeves instead of the swastika.

OF COURSE everyone reading NintendoLife knows neither TPC or any Nintendo property would do an obvious negative caricature like that.
But someone who was already 54 back then when he realized he was being referenced might not be informed enough.

So at some level, I understand his initial reaction. But I do absolutely agree that he should have realized his misunderstanding more than a decade ago. (And yeah, it's also quite possible him or his lawyers thought it's good to push that antisemtic caricature story to get a case.)
Nevertheless, I think it's good it rather happened late than never, and I'm not going to hold a grudge about something that's in the past.

Re: It Looks Like Kadabra Can Finally Return To The Pokémon Trading Card Game

BowtieShyGuy

@thesilverbrick Each evolution refers to a different magician in Japanese. Alakazam is Foudin, either a reference to Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin or Harry Houdini

Uri Geller's problem isn't the spoons, but that Kadabra's japanese name obviously references his name, especially if you look at the Katakana:

ユンゲラー - Yungerer (Kadabra)
ユリゲラー - Uri Geller

He then interpreted parts of the character design to be referenced to him (he claimed the star on its forehead references the star of David, while the markings on his belly look like an SS-logo with an extra S to him), and didn't liked that he was being portrayed as something evil.

Glad to hear he is no longer associating it with negative press for him so it can finally return to the TCG and TV show.

Re: It Takes "Just Under" Seven Days To Fully Charge Pokémon's GO Transporter

BowtieShyGuy

@Zoda_Fett No, you get 50 coins per day for 6 hours of defending in an arena (counting one Pokémon, you could also use 6 who defend for an hour, etc.).

However, Transporter energy recharges without coins.
And you can get hard to catch legendaries or even rarer shiny mythical Pokémon from raids or as PvP rewards. You can get all of that for free (theoretically - depends on RNG) if you are patient enough to wait and play a lot.

Re: It Takes "Just Under" Seven Days To Fully Charge Pokémon's GO Transporter

BowtieShyGuy

I could transfer 3 or 4 Darkrais (yes, you can transfer mythicals that you can't even trade in Pokémon Go) before running out of energy, or one shiny Darkrai.

I didn't test it for normal Pokémon, but if it's not the same, I think that's fair, considering how easy it is to get legendary, mythical and shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Go. And that all considering how everything is - theoretically - available for free.

I do think however those dishing out for a Pokémon Home subscription should get faster recharging as part of the deal.

Re: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade Of Light Switch eShop File Size Revealed

BowtieShyGuy

@komodo182 Shadow Dragon for DS is the remake to this title. So it's basically the same game, but has lots of changes to update it and extra chapters that weren't present in the NES game.

What I remember most ist that the DS game has the weapon triangle (that wasn't introduced until FE4), it has extra Intro chapters for easy mode and you can get Nagi as a character when you lost both Tiki and the Falchion (as these are the only two options to deal effective damage to the final boss in the game).

Re: Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Backers Hit With Customs Charges And Handling Fees

BowtieShyGuy

I'm not from the UK: Can they ask for a fee on something that didn't cost anything?

Because as far as I understood kickstarter, you are not "buying" stuff. You "donate" money, but are promised a product in return for certain amounts of money.
(This also means that you don't get refunds if the kickstarter fails to deliver, like a friend of mine had to learn painfully with a finger tracking system).

So while backers did indeed spend money on it, they didn't really buy it. They donated and get a "gift" in return.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's ARMS Fighter Will Be Revealed In Livestream Next Week

BowtieShyGuy

@RupeeClock It wouldn't be the first time that Sakurai gives characters moves that they can't do in their original games (Ness/Lucas, Robin).

I could imagine them doing a Bowser Jr. kind of approach with all the characters sharing a moveset based on their moves.

Of course characters with a vastly different physique wouldn't work well with others, so Mr. Mummy, Max Brass and Mechanica are too heavy if we consider a character like Springman/tron or Riibbon Girl to become the main model. Byte & Barq, Misango and Dr. Coyle also seem too unique in their movement to be considered.
Characters that are compatible could be: Ribbon Girl, Ninjara, Min Min, Twintelle, Springtron.
Lola pop, Helix and Kid Cobra could be tricky, but maybe they could work, which would make it exactly 8 characters.

Springman was not included in the list as his spot is tricky as he is already an assist trophy. If they turn him into a playable character... that would open the door for characters like Waluigi. So it would actually be a Genius move to make Springman the first DLC announcement to hype everyone until they reveal Waluigi as the final DLC fighter.
