Re: Metroid Dread Studio Hit With Allegations Of Poor Organisation And Management

Boston_J

@CharlieGirl if Dread was bad, those folks saying "suck it up" would probably agree with the workers and blame that for the games downfall. But because it's a great game, they don't want to see the warts. Or... They support this practice because they ARE the toxic people in their offices.

Work can certainly be stressful. But you shouldn't feel threatened, afraid or like leadership is out to sink you.

As for Dread, it is an excellent game. Maybe get it used if you don't want to support the studio but still want to play? I hope Nintendo buys them out or something. Didn't they come in and fix Retro Studios during Prime 1's development because the workplace was intense, and after the Nintendo takeover workers were happier and under less crunch?

As a huge Metroid fan, I want this SO bad. But I can't justify paying more than the $90 that it's supposed to be. I followed a couple of the links above knowing that they'd be out of stock but now it's even worse- the links say "Add to cart" but it never actually adds to the cart. It's such a torment!

Re: Random: Sakurai Terminator Reference Sparks DOOM, Fortnite And Among Us Smash Bros. Speculation

@Clyde_Radcliffe @Clyde_Radcliffe other than Banjo, I have been "meh" with most third party dlc characters- but a couple of my friends lost their minds with Joker, Sephiroth and Pyra so I'm happy for them.

Part of me is like... Why did Captain Toad, Impa, Skull Kid, Urbosa/champions and other Nintendo characters miss a spot, but characters with games not even on Nintendo systems are here?

Re: New Metroid Dread Footage Shows Links To Samus Returns

Boston_J

@Stubborn_Monkey I don't think they will be the only antagonists. I don't know if it's a spoiler or not (granted this article has spoilers for Samus Returns secret ending) but the Galactic Federation has to be PO'd with Samus for killing off the Metroids from their super-secret projects at the Bottle Ship and BSL. They likely want her out of the picture.

Re: Soapbox: Indies Lead The Way But Nintendo Shows Progress Representing People Of Colour

Boston_J

@HamatoYoshi which I clarified in a response above, that it was a sign that the kid cared, not the reason he cared.

And reading the rest of your comments replying to others, it's clear you don't care about other people getting representation they want because YOU want to live in a fantasy land and gaming is all about YOUR needs. Folks can live in a fantasy land and still see some semblance of themselves.

Maybe, maybe not a troll, but I'm still not impressed.

Re: Soapbox: Indies Lead The Way But Nintendo Shows Progress Representing People Of Colour

More representation is never a bad thing. Growing up nearly all characters in my games were white, except in wrestling games. I can imagine being a younger POC of the 80's/90's and wondering "why doesn't anyone look like me?"

A month ago I saw my Fortnite obsessed nephews, and right smack in the middle of one of their hour long rantings (about this game I couldn't care less about) my 7 year old nephew dropped, in a very serious, sincere tone "I downloaded a pretty cool black character, because Black Lives Matter."

I was stunned. And proud. Kids get it, why can't adults?

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

Boston_J

My ranking is:
Super/ Prime 1
Prime 3
Samus Returns
Prime 2
Fusion/Zero Mission (would be higher if these games didn't tell you where to go)
Other M (LIVED parts of it, but story/characterisation issues, awkward control swap)
Metroid / Return of Samus

Re: Former Star Fox Programmer Would Be Interested In Making A New Entry Without The "Gimmicks"

Boston_J

I loved the way Zero looked. It just was way too awkward in it's controls.

I would love a game with 64's control scheme, but new planets, storyline, perhaps new squad to replace Peppy and Slippy, or it let you choose who flies with you, etc. Like how Slippy tells you the enemy health, Peppy tells you the weakspot, Falco points out the shortcuts, maybe the new squad mate gives you a special weapon, and another retrieves upgrades for you so you don't have to fly to them or something. So there's a benefit to replaying the game again but taking different people.

Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct E3 2021

Boston_J

Metroid Dread and Mario Party were the winners for me: the "resurrection" of a dead game, continuing a story left hanging 19 years ago, and a revisiting to the time when Mario Party kept me up all night in 1999. And I'm willing to try out the new Cruisin' game, I loved Cruisin' USA 64 even though it was considered pretty bad.

Zelda is one of my 3 favorite series, but for some reason trailers for new games never excite me, it's only when I start playing that the excitement blows up. So BOTW2 trailer did nothing for me, but I know I'll be in love when I hold it.

I wanted much more from this Direct after 2 years, but once Metroid was announced, it didn't matter.

Re: XSEED Games Has "Multiple Reveals" Lined Up For E3

Boston_J

Didn't they do The Last Story? I would love to get a Switch remaster. I don't think it will happen as it wasn't the most popular if the Project Rainfall games... I've just been longing to replay that, and sold my copy years ago when I needed money and to downsize

Re: What Are Your Favourite Switch Online SNES And NES Games? Nintendo Wants To Know

Boston_J

What I want: Super Mario RPG.
Turtles in Time.
Mario Paint. I probably wouldn't play it much, but I'd love to mess around with it, and reminisce about Christmas '92 when I was little and obsessssssed with it

What I've played most: I play Super Mario Kart a lot, and I'd probably play more if anyone I knew liked it. My brother and boyfriend will play a couple rounds with me but I can tell they'd rather move on to MK8D. I've also played a good amount of All-stars on the Switch. Ive played Super Metroid to death over the years, so I'm waiting at least a couple more before I jump into it again on the NSO service.

Re: Anniversary: It's Super Mario RPG's 25th Birthday!

Boston_J

@Tobo91 Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved it as a kid and I am longing to play it again.
I just started playing Superstar Saga (I never played the Mario & Luigi games before) and it is scratching that itch in the meantime. It definitely feels like the descendant of Mario RPG. I love it. Only thing missing for me is multiple party members
