To great excitement, Nintendo revealed its newest Metroid game during their E3 Direct back in June 2021. Metroid Dread was developed by MercuryStream, who you will remember from the excellent Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS, and the new game launched on 8th October 2021. We called it "possibly the best Metroid game ever made" in our review. It's good.
In this guide we've rounded up the various editions of the game available to buy in North America and the UK. In addition to this, there is also a two-pack of amiibo up for grabs, featuring Samus and one of her dreaded robot foes, the E.M.M.I.

To go alongside the game, Nintendo released a pair of dapper-looking amiibo which we think look fantastic — equally the match of previous amiibo in the series.
Tapping Samus to your right Joy-Con will restore your health once-a-day and bestow an extra energy tank, while the EMMI amiibo will upgrade your maximum missile capacity by 10 and also replenish your missiles (again, once-a-day).

Those scalpers are even more nefarious than the Space Pirates.
I like that EMMI is basically the Boston Dynamics robot dog.
Amiibo are sold out everywhere so far.
Edit: snagged mine from Amazon.jp. Rather pay shipping than scalpers any day.
all this stuff sold out in seconds... this whole scalper nonsense is just getting so bad
$30 extra for a steelbook, some artcards and an (albeit chunky) artbook? Seems pretty lacklustre as a special edition for that price to me.
@Kiz3000
Agreed, so I only preordered the regular edition.
I do hope that Amiibo set will be somewhat attainable as time goes on though.
@Dazza the game and special edition are available on the Nintendo Store UK right now. I just pre-ordered my special edition.
Edit: standard game now also available at Amazon in the UK
@Ajent Thanks for the heads up. Didn’t realise the store had shifted as I was trying last night. Pre-ordered my LE.
Now to await for the Amiibos as Metroid ones are the only ones I collect now. At least they come out rarely.
@Ajent Nice one, cheers for the shout! Zelda Game and Watch is also there if anyone is interested 👍
@Ajent Also thanks for the heads up. Preordered the Zelda Game and Watch as well. Amiibos are gonna make me nervous.
Here's a better idea: Don't pre-order. Ever.
Glad to have helped those looking. I was also checking last night, but checked again this morning.
I’ll be on the lookout for those Amiibo as well. I love the Metroid Amiibo’s.
@Jaguar_Wong lol. You must be new to buying Nintendo products. I can almost guarantee that if you don’t pre-order the Special Edition (and definitely the Amiibo’s), your chances of getting them are almost nil.
@Jaguar_Wong It's worked out perfectly well for me so far, but thanks!
Did nobody remember the whole "no pre-orders" thing after Cyberpunk turned into a cyber-trainwreck? (I'll go now...)
Managed to get my CE from the Nintendo store but the amiibo are sold out or just not showing on all the sites I look at…fingers crossed I beat the bots/scalpers to them as I have all the metroid amiibo so far
@Ajent
Oh no, the game will be so much worse without a sticker and trading card collection getting dusty on my shelf.
@Jaguar_Wong no need to worry, the game will be exactly the same (take that sarcasm!).
However, if you want the art book, the steel case and the cards to display, then my original point stands. They are collectors items and you’ll struggle to get them with out pre-ordering.
I plan to frame the cards in one frame, as I think the art is pretty cool and it will go well in my games room. Metroid is one of my favourite series, so this is a big deal to me.
Compare it to concert tickets. Surely you wouldn’t advise someone to not pre-book a concert and to just turn up on the day and hope for the best? (Only to find out it sold out weeks ago).
Yeah I wanted collector's and amiibo, every place that weren't live in the states sold out in just couple minutes. eBay now listing them for 3x to 4x as much. Ugh I hate scalpers.
Gaaah, they've opened orders on the My Nintendo Store UK site but I can't get payment info to go through.
God I hate scalpers they screw over everyone who actually want collectors items to keep for themselves
I finally successfully placed my My Nintendo UK Store order for the Metroid Dread special edition, and the Zelda Game & Watch.
I had to do it on my mobile phone as it would refuse to work on desktop for some reason. They may need to fix an issue on their site.
***** Scalpers Forever
It looks like the amiibo are already sold out in the us. I hope they add more stock soon, but the bots will probably get those too.
So the special edition is in stock through the Nintendo store in the UK but nowhere else. Unfortunately can't order and ship to US Hoping Nintendo America opens up a way to purchase on their site, eBay is overflowing with the scalpers overpriced listings.
YOU COULD'VE CAPTURED SONIC!!
@Jaguar_Wong Halo fanboy.
Yeah.......there's no way I'll find one of those...checked a few hours after the Direct and they were sold out everywhere.
Nice got my pre order in for the special edition.
Will wait for Nintendo UK to stock the amiibo and hopefully pre-order both that and the Special Edition at the same time, since I'll need to use a middle-man service. No local retailers have the game up for pre-order yet...
@Mach_Rider
That's a risky strategy, there's no guarantee the Special Edition will still be available for pre-order by the time Nintendo UK store takes amiibo pre-orders.
I would say, assume the Special Edition is Nintendo UK Store exclusive, but the amiibo is not.
Though I'd keep an eye on GAME's UK website too as they've historically had first party Nintendo special editions.
@Manjushri problem would be Nintendo would be in hot water with the other storefronts. People hated Nintendo Store exclusives. The scalping issues is more at the feet of Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy who should put in such restrictions. But, I don't think that'd help.
@YoshiAngemon
Hello yourself 😊
Unless you have bot running don't ever plan on buying a new amiibo from a retail store in the US.
I really, really hate scalpers. HATE. THEM. Physical cartridges are already a rarity themselves without having scalpers ruining any chance I have at owning certain editions. 🤬
Love me some 2D Metroid. Not fussed about collectors editions but I prefer physical media so preordered the standard version from trusty Base.com for £42.85. No sign of amiibo preorder in the UK yet still.
@DropDash You want a break from the scalpers, here's some things you CAN buy without fear of them:
https://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Colors-Ultimate-Launch-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B095ZXYCM8/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Sonic+Colors+Ultimate&qid=1623854972&s=videogames&sr=1-1 - Sonic Colors Ultimate for the Switch, 40 Mobiums.
https://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Hedgehog-Encyclo-speed-ia-Ian-Flynn/dp/1506719279/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1R3JSYU20LEVI&dchild=1&keywords=sonic+encyclo-speed-ia+deluxe&qid=1623855021&sprefix=Sonic+Encyclo%2Cvideogames%2C192&sr=8-3 - Sonic Encyclo-Speed-Ia, Standard Hardcover Edition, 30 Mobiums.
https://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Hedgehog-Encyclo-speed-ia-Deluxe-Flynn/dp/150672017X/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1R3JSYU20LEVI&dchild=1&keywords=sonic+encyclo-speed-ia+deluxe&qid=1623855021&sprefix=Sonic+Encyclo%2Cvideogames%2C192&sr=8-2 - And let's not forget the Deluxe Edition, only 72 Mobiums down, plus tax. I was able to get mine for much less, thanks to the declining prices in Amazon Book Sales.
Not to mention all the Official Sonic Merchandise from SEGA's Online Shop! What I'm trying to say is that with scalpers around, your only hope for collectibles is to buy from SEGA, rather than Nintendo. Besides, at least SEGA keeps these things in stock, because Sonic is not as popular as Nintendo. You know what? If SEGA announces a 30th Anniversary Sonic Twitter Takeover for this summer, here's a question to ask Sonic: "If you're so popular, then how come Nintendo's games and amiibos sell out, while YOUR stuff doesn't? Hmmmm?" Or how about "Why can't you be more like that nice boy, Mario?"
Come on, NintendoLife, hit me with more Sonic News! I dare ya!
I tried the UK Nintendo store but they don't ship to USA. My only hope now is to wait for some re-stocks if there's any. Damn scalpers
lmao they are all out of stock already. Really want that special edition but not going to pay bloated prices so guess I'll never get it
Had to go JPN editions for both.
@SwitchForce do you have the link to the amazon jp amiibo or amazon uk?
Let me see...hopefully this stays...
https://t.co/cI1zFaMg2Z?amp=1
ALERT Just Saw this now
Your selected delivery location is beyond seller's shipping coverage for this item. Please choose a different delivery location or purchase from another seller.
You must now buy from Amazon reSeller
@SwitchForce tried and non appear to ship to the us now - looks like the amazon direct one must be sold out now.
How did you find the link?
Twitter....one of the sites I follow for NS games and Amiibo releases. I saw it this early morning thought it would last but guess I was wrong.
@SwitchForce anything on the amazon uk link yet?
Not sure I didn't look but twitter didn't mention but I'll look at Amazon UK. Not sure what's going on lately with Amazon LAGS and looks odd site til you log in. Must be some new measure they are doing.
@SwitchForce by the way - are you the same switchforce as the youtube channel - if yes love your show.
@SwitchForce ok thanks alot
@Armand73 No just a name I use because I like the guy on YT and his reviews are good.
If you want to follow Amiibo and NS game release I can PM the link to you so you can keep track.
@SwitchForce ah k lol
@Armand73 thanks alot
No luck on Amazon UK.....
@SwitchForce ok thanks alot - appreciate your time.
PM option must be gone? Do you still need the link?
Try this:
@Armand73

Good Luck
only the special edition option is still showing pre order the rest appear blocked for shipping to the us already
@Armand73 only the special edition option is still showing pre order the rest appear blocked for shipping to the us already
Great the word must've gotten out. Those Scalpers....It's is more expensive with S/H though. But if I can't in the US what other choices does one have now.
yeah they are really quick
Seems like JPN Amiibo are always in Double pack but NA never has that option.
anything for other amazon countries like canada or france
Typical that the Amiibo takes forever to get a UK pre-order. Nintendo don't even email you to tell you they're in stock... Grrr. Another sale for the scalpers I'd imagine. It sucks. If we didn't buy from the scalpers there'd be no scalpers but if the ONLY way to buy them is from the scalpers... And on it goes. If Nintendo didn't create a false/secondary economy by releasing enough then there really wouldn't be a problem. The Loftwing amiibo is absolutely EVERYWHERE atm. Monster Hunter Rise/Story 2 Amiibos? NOWHERE. crying
@Ajent Your concert metaphor is completely incorrect lol. (No disrespect). As someone working in the UK music industry I know for a fact that you actually could turn up to 99% of sold out concerts on the day and almost guarantee you could buy a ticket from one of the many resellers. BUT. Although this is technically scalping they don't ever charge anywhere near as much on the ticket price that scalpers do on Amiibo, gaming ltd editions and hard to find consoles. eBay scalpers are on a whole other level.
@neolestat so my example is wrong because… it… is the same as buying concert tickets?
If you don’t pre-order them you’re going to pay over the odds. Whether it’s £10 or £100.
Additionally, my comment was in response to someone suggesting people shouldn’t pre-order. Even if the scalpers surcharge was the same as concerts tickets (£10 or so, I’m guessing?), it still doesn’t make sense to wait for it to go out of stock and then pay a re-seller a higher cost for a technically second hand product. Especially a reseller where the legitimacy of the transaction is somewhat dubious.
@Armand73 haven't seen them on the Amiibo news twitter...saying so yet...
@Ajent Additionally, my comment was in response to someone suggesting people shouldn’t pre-order.
Those people saying this are Scalpers in disguise. So let's ferrate them out.
If you here anything or see anything can you let us know, this is crazy how fast these things disappear now…
And it won't be out as I know til close to end of the year....???
Agree, on that the vendors need to limit orders to one item per order that would at least give us a chance
@Armand73 Agree, on that the vendors need to limit orders to one item per order that would at least give us a chance
That and verify purchase with account or CC card to insure only one buyer per Amiibo or CE edition only. That way it will stop Scalpers from playing the botnet buying games.
just a heads up, the special edition is now sold out on the My Nintendo Store.
Any one been lucky to get a order for the amiibo?
@Pacopapa02 NEVER liked Nintendo Store USA or EU or wherever those block any orders outside of their country. And never have enough inventory when you want something.
At the bare minimum a collector's edition should include a game manual
Any one have any luck with the Amazon up link for the amiibo?
Oooo a special edition... lemme just see.... sold out everywhere. Ok, so let me just check ebay real quick aaaand...... there they are!! For over double the price. Sigh
On Amazon.de you can still purchase the amiibo
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B097B736LC/
Thank you! This time i got the amiibo
Thank you very much
I could buy both of them if I wanted and be very impulsive but the price keeps me of the special edition and also I’m not a amibo user/ collector. Hope others get a chance . I had 2 chances toddy to buy… ignored them
This will be a special amiibo to collectors like the last 2 set for metroid
I’ can’t wait to add it to my shelf
Have 125 amiibo so far and growing
Hope we see the Metroid Dread amiibo some time today in the UK? Please keep us updated
They rarely charged extra for Steelbook and Art Book, or even figurines on Wii U.
Just shows again how greedy Nintendo have become.
Just got the Collectors Edition From Japan and the Amiibo from Amazon Germany. Many thanks this website helped ton!
unsure why amazon is currently a tenner extra for the game though i'm gonna wait until argos, games there are all £45 usually
@Kiz3000 tbh special editions are always not worth it. This one is more reasonable than most tbh
The standard edition is £59.00 … why?
Wonderful. Got all the way through the preorder process on Walmart's website only to find the Metroid Dread SE is no longer in stock.
That's it. I'm done. If preordering doesn't shift to the LRG method, which would definitely cripple scalping, then I'm not bothering anymore. Screw being a fan. It's all about flipping these limited assets for a bit of profit, right?
Got myself a set of the Amiibo, love metroid so I might actually keep these ones after I've scanned them for the goodies.
In fact I might actually keep them in the box as you only get an extra energy/missile tank from them.
Hmm, whenever the amiibo went up on Amazon UK, I missed it.
I'll have to keep an eye out anyway, it will probably be much easier to order it from Nintendo UK Store.
anyone have the direct link for the amazon uk amiibo, link above appears to not be working...
walmart had it but believe it is gone from there as well, crazy
I'll never understand these preorders that "sell out." Isn't the whole point of a preorder to gauge demand and then you manufacture accordingly?
Here in the US at least we have to deal with preorder panic every time Nintendo announces something cool. I still think it's a miracle I managed to get a Switch at launch.
Yet during 8 years of living in Japan I did not have a single preorder problem.
If preorders must "sell out" because the product is a quantity-limited "collectors edition," then don't even do preorders! Just stock the item on release day and give fans a chance to line up and get one. That would at least make our pals the scalpers have to work for their money.
ebay is already flooded with the preorders are super high prices...
Dang it, missed AMZ UK amiibos. Ordered from AMZ DE as a precaussion but more expensive.
If anyone’s looking, Shopto has the Limited Edition available (https://www.shopto.net/en/swme39-metroid-dread-special-edition-p1145366/)
Of course it is unavailable. Nintendo never prints enough copies and resellers gobble it all up.
Who are these scalpers? I'd like to see the sales data on who is stocking doing this.
@AquaVibe a lot is due to Nintendo not making enough stock for people to grab them.
I buy them purely for the DLC and then sell them on, usually at a profit because no one can get hold of them. The Magnamalo Amiibo paid for my copy of MHR!
For UK buyers, ShopTo dot net have the Special Edition up for preorder, at a better price than the Official Nintendo Store even! No sign of the Amiibos yet though.
@ChessboardMan Yee I was just about to message to the group here. Just Secured my Pre-order just now
@ChessboardMan My only issue with ShopTo is that they have a tendency to use padded envelopes even for boxes special editions. Suffered from a few dented corners in the past so willing to pay a little extra at other stores to guarantee a delivery box.
I missed the pre-orders for this and amiibo. Some of us has to work and can't be by a computer 24/7 damn.
Aw missed the pre orders for the amiibo on Amazon 🥲
The amiibo double set is up for pre-order on ShopTo at the moment. A little bit more expensive than Amazon, but at least you can secure a pack!
Got it straight away on Amazon Japan could not get the amiibo however Amazon Germany got it in stock and I picked it up so excited!
Oops..... Got both from ShopTo. Fingers crossed they don't f*** it up or damage it.
Amiibo orders are up on Game UK
@Sutty225 Thanks for the heads up. Snagged it plus the Special Edition. At least the £5 shipping cost is now a smaller % of the total order.
@Sutty225 Game UK doesn't ship to NA. FYI.
Metroid SE/Amiibo from Amazon JPN just like monster hunter stories 2 Amiibos all from JPN. I only go the Metroid SE from my GS.
Game UK is still accepting pre-orders for the amiibo, I got mine in thankfully.
https://www.game.co.uk/en/amiibo-samus-e-m-m-i-2-in-1-pack-2861578
That's both the amiibo and the special edition both securely pre-ordered now.
Honestly it's a waste of time preordering games unless they're special edition. The physicals almost always go on sale on Amazon or large retailers for 5-20% below preorder price. You're paying an anxiety fee for the most part otherwise for standard editions
Metroid Dread's special edition is also listed on Game.co.uk
https://www.game.co.uk/en/metroid-dread-special-edition-2861575
Most Online UK stores don't ship to NA only one that will if they don't close PreOrders is Amazon UK.
For some weird reason, I can't seem to pre-order the special edition, after trying since the announcement. Strange.
Secured both. Whew.
I can’t find preorders for special edition nor the amiibo. I’ve been searching since the E3 announcement. Death to all scalpers. They are a wretched hive of scum and villainy. I will not pay their prices. If the Zelda amiibo are anything to go by they will be widely available again anyway.
Panic pre ordered my Collectors Edition through Shopto in the Uk. They had a handy 1 per person policy. Some retailers value humans over bots. I've never really played a Metroid game so quite excited.
Dang scalpers ruining ruining everything. Luckily I was able to get the amiibos. Hopefully I can try and get a hold of the Special Edition if more goes up.
As always scalpers are useless fleshbags.
Nothing for Canada(and Québec by extension) yet...
Making panic doesn't help, Nintendo Life. We don't even know what those Amiibos will do for the game and I bet that we can play the game perfectly to the end without all that nonsense.
Removed - trolling; user is banned
Not everyone here lives in EU so they pay duties/taxes. So no just cause they have it doesn't one will buy after seeing the duties.
@Ulanda I bet that we can play the game perfectly to the end without all that nonsense.
You clearly missed why people are upset not being able to get a Physical Amiibo. So let me explain it more slowly.
1. Physical
2. Value
3. RePlay Value
4. Display Value
5. Sentimental Value - scan codes or sticker don't work for this.
@SwitchForce and because of those point, everyone acts the same, right? We're a bunch of herd following morons, that blindly gets everything that is thrown at our head. Sorry, but I doubt that.
@Ajent your metaphor is wrong because you are comparing a one-off event that can only be performed by a single person, or small group in a venue that can only hold a finite number of participants to a cheap hunk of plastic and a chip that Nintendo could easily produce by the millions.
@SteveT75 well… if that was the point of the metaphor… you’ve missed the point.
I’m comparing a limited product and the process of pre-ordering rather than waiting until it’s out to buy it. That comparison holds. If you pre-order a game/concert ticket it will be cheaper than if you wait until the date it is out/day of concert. That comparison holds. There is a time an place where pre-ordering is definitely the best thing to do.
@Ajent You're missing the point too. Nintendo could easily produce more product to satisfy a large part of pre-order sales. Obviously, they would produce more over the long term, but Nintendo surely knows that pre-order demand is more likely to be for hundreds of thousands of this item than tens of thousands. This is a company that has released hundreds of similar items over the best part of the last decade. They know fairly well what demand will be.
They fairly explicitly stated their approach to creating desirability and value for an item when they decided to make the Mario All-stars Collection time limited.
@SteveT75 I’m missing the point? What are you on about? I was making the point.
I forget the original users name, but they stated “never pre-order”. I then made my comment and comparison. It doesn’t matter whether Nintendo could or should make more product available, the simple fact is they don’t and won’t.
Therefore, in that situation, we are left with two options. Pre-order and guarantee that we get the game/amiibo or, as the original commenter stated, don’t pre-order and pay scalper/re-seller prices (or just miss out completely).
So regardless of what else you think can be done, it doesn’t matter. I was commenting on the reality of the matter and the real-life results of no pre-ordering.
Like I say, you missed MY point.
@Ajent Calm down dear😂. You were missing MY point. I was commenting on what I believe would be a better solution to what is clearly a problem. Or, do you believe that everyone should throw up their hands and say 'oh well, nothing can be done'.
As it happens, I've pre-ordered the standard edition. If the CE and Amiibo were more readily available, I probably would have got them. I wonder how many people want to order the product, but can't, and how many more sales Nintendo could make if this was more readily available. Clearly, not enough to make it worthwhile.
@SteveT75 I’m perfectly calm. But you’re contradicting yourself. You weren’t commenting on what you thought was a better solution to a clear problem. To quote, you said “your metaphor is wrong” and then went on to explain that a concert and a game a different (thanks for that!).
I then explained I wasn’t comparing the products but the effect of not pre-ordering and my comparison was in relation to the price hike (or missing out).
You then doubled down that I was missing the point on the point I was making (not your point, your point was that my metaphor was wrong - your subsequent opinions on what Nintendo could do were/are irrelevant to your original reply to me).
So I am perfectly calm, you just keep missing my point. Exclaiming that I missed your point about what Nintendo could (and should do) does not mean that my metaphor is wrong - because your point, in relation to that, is irrelevant. It’s theory. My metaphor was based on the real world ‘what would happen’.
For what it’s worth I agree with YOUR point. Nintendo shouldn’t create this artificial scarcity. It’s anti-consumer.
BUT, that is irrelevant to my original comment and comparison.
Also, try stop being so condescending.
@Ajent okay then. You have a lovely day. Buh-bye now👋
@SteveT75 well played troll, well played.
@Ajent. I'm sorry that I didn't explicitly state in my original comment 'I believe your metaphor is a wrong one, and here's why...'. I should have then said 'as a corollary to that this situation could easily be resolved if Nintendo.... (Did this). And in an ideal world where everybody could be happy, that would be the situation.'
Clearly, everything has to be unambiguously stated, lest anyone should get upset, or anyone misinterpret genuinely held opinions as trolling.
Also, maybe learn to accept that other people mightn't agree with you from time to time.
@Ulanda not sure where your herd went but there is no herd mentality here. Everyone is fine to get what they want. It's the way the rollout was handled is a debacle and favored only those that botnet.
@Radpal Ummmmm...... Samus Returns was great, developed by Mercury Stream and Nintendo EPD......
@SwitchForce Still doubt it, but when it makes you happy, be that way.
The amiibo are back up on game now 😊
@SwitchForce @Ulanda Major herd mentality on this site, hate to say it. It seems fairly split between herds and individuals, judging solely based off the comments section.
So the Special Edition is only available in the USA and UK, what about Australia or Europe?
Looks like the amiibo 2-pack is back in stock at Amazon UK.
Use the link provided in the article, it appears that it features some query parameters that dictate whether or not you'll see the pre-order option.
@BloodNinja now only if we had enough inventory then we can talk but since Scalpers are on here responding to mislead I wonder why that is.
@SwitchForce I couldn't parse what you wrote, what are you talking about?
I just preordered the base game with the two amiibo (separately packaged) from Amazon Japan. I rather pay a shipping fee than a scalper fee.
@Ryu_Niiyama the amiibo will be plentiful come release. I wouldn’t even worry about it.
Funny how everyone always has a better idea for how to roll out game releases.
@Dirty0814 not so where I live. Most amiibo in my area are either preorder or don’t bother (never seen a Byleth in store for instance). I’ve secured my preorders though so I am good.
@VR32X same. That’s what I did too. Scalpers can fall down a well.
Looks like GAME has stock of the amiibo double pack again!
@Dirty0814 All GameStop and BestBuy and Amazon had to do with account verification as everyone most likely has a registered account. That would stop Scalpers limited to one per purchase link to their account and CC/Paypal. That would stop Scalper dead in their track as now they can be tracked.
I really want the amiibo, of course.
But i do hope the artbook gets a standalone release. I love artbooks, and it looks like the best part of the pack
Stock of the amiibo is back in game uk
@Ajent I dunno, maybe the concert analogy was a bit snarky as I've never seen ticket touts at concerts rip people off like scalpers rip us gamers off. Like I said though, no disrespect intended.
As to pre-ordering, i am COMPLETELY in favour of it. The people that say we get inferior games etc are wrong. It's only recently that games like CP2077 release so below par and with a release date that was pushed back and back eventually they had to set a date in stone and go 'gold' however the game was and then work on the best day one patch they could to mitigate the game's weaknesses.
The problem with pre-ordering though is us mere mortals rely on screen refreshing and the retailers having the capacity to handle the traffic for a particularly popular item. Take the Monster Hunter Rise/Stories 2 Amiibos for example. I had no idea when the amiibos went live for pre-order and by the time I knew they'd already gone out of stock. I've had to order the Metroid amiibo from Germany! Literally out of stock everywhere in the UK. Yet there was a massive rush to get the Loftwing amiibo and they went out of stock pretty much instantly, the scalpers had them three times retail less than an hour later. Yet, you look now and everywhere has them in stock the day before their release.
MH amiibos are still impossible to find in the wild so what recourse is there but to turn to the scalpers if you want one, or two. Nintendo create a false economy based around amiibos which definitely doesn't benefit them. If they made enough to go round people would buy from official outlets and scalpers wouldn't exist.
Unfortunately, with the PS5 and Series X/S we mortals don't have bots and can't control pandemics and chip/silicon shortages. I was lucky enough to be able to preorder both and all the accessories I wanted. I really do feel sorry for those that weren't.
I don't know the solution in this case...
A word of warning to anyone pre-ordering the amiibo from Nintendo UK Store:
For any wanting to get a copy of the Special Edition, I just managed to secure one on base.com for rrp. I’m UK based, not sure if they ship worldwide.
And managed to pre order the amiibo from Nintendo UK, thanks NL for the heads up.
Really wish there was a better word than "scalpers". What is this 1700s North America? 😂 I get the slang but cmon, we can do something better like "scum lords" or "candy snatchers"
There actually is a solution to the scalping problem ... don't buy from them. Not trying to be a buzzkill, but it might not hurt to ask ourselves if owning some plastic statue is really that important in the grand scheme of things.
@MindfulGamer people don’t have to. These amiibos will be release in a big number on release. These are not limited editions and is no cause for any of this, it is completely ridiculous and stupid on the scalpers part mostly
My Nintendo UK Store is accepting orders for the special edition once more.
Edit: Already out of stock once more.
@Ulanda Samus Amiibo gives you an extra energy tank and the EMMI Amiibo gives 10 extra missles, which may be quite a deal for completionists and sucks more than the Loftwing Amiibo tbh
Nintendo UK doesn't ship to NA or US. I know that from past experiences. Only UK verified address work or forwarding but doing that cost money and isn't cheap.
Of course, pre-order scalping could be curbed if eBay forbade the listing of an item before it's release date.
Just saying😉https://news.sky.com/story/gamers-derail-ebay-listings-to-stop-hardware-scalpers-profiting-on-latest-technology-12143733
I'll be waiting for this to be available at retail price, hopefully won't be waiting too long...
My Nintendo Store UK is accepting further pre-orders for the special edition this morning, though it likely won't last long.
Something I've noticed recently, is that My Nintendo Store appears to accept a small number of pre-orders each morning now.
My new bank card has arrived so I'll finally be able to place an order that won't be cancelled when it's due to be charged, but as for whether or not their site will successfully process the order is another matter. It errors each time I try to add the new card because their site is riddled with technical issues.
I don't think we'll see any of this stuff, outside of the regular game, available for order in the US until the release date. I've been checking all these links for weeks and no one has had them since the preorder period ended.
For anyone in the US still trying to track these amiibos down for MSRP, they are currently in-stock for shipping on Walmart.com. Finally got mine!
People will buy anything these days just to create a shortage. Scalpers deserve even more than all the hate they already get.
