We're just days away from the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Switch, an HD rerelease of the original that first appeared on Wii back in 2011, and Nintendo has dropped another new trailer to keep the hype rolling.
As you'd expect, the new clip gives us another close look at some of the game's epic scenes, focusing primarily on Skyward Sword's intriguing story. As fans of the franchise will probably know, Skyward Sword sits right at the very beginning of the Zelda timeline, setting the scene for all the adventures we've enjoyed over the past 35 years. You can check it out for yourself above. That music...
Last week, Nintendo finally lifted the lid on the changes coming to Skyward Sword HD, letting us in on how it'll be improved over the Wii original, and we were also treated to a meaty overview trailer last month.
Are you planning on getting Skyward Sword HD when it launches next week? Remember, those of you in the UK can enter a special prize draw by ordering the game from the Nintendo UK Store.

They are doing a good job of getting me hyped to play this again. Now they need to do another trailer showing the excessively long tutorial section and the dowsing time-wasting quests to snap me back to reality.
'This isn't flying, it's falling....with style!'
@QBertFarnsworth
I thought they said they shortened the tutorial?
This is the only 3D Zelda game I’ve not played, so I’m excited to get to play it. I nearly bought it on the Wii U eShop since it’s only $20, but man I hate motion controls.
The only Zelda game on a home console that I have never played. Until next week that is.
My expectations are in check as it has a lot of haters but I hope the tweaks they do reduce the hand holding significantly and the button controls will be easier to play than the motion controls.
Bring on next week
I’m reminded of that Zelda commercial with the terrible line; “Will thou get the girl, or play like one?” At least they’re now able to make puns while being… inoffensive.
No matter how many trailers this gets, I’m still not convinced on wasting my money on this game. There are better games this month that I honestly rather spend money on.
@TheJGG I'm not gonna lie, I saw the article headline, and thought that Nintendo had done a similar ad to that for Skyward Sword HD, complete with the Conan music.
I've never hated a game as much as I hated s
Skyward Sword and I didn't mind the motion controls that much.
I hated Fi so much. Hard pass for me.
@Kiz3000 The game sold 3.4 million units, but there are 50 million people online who hate it, which tells you a lot of people didn't play it. It's an okay Zelda game which still makes it a pretty good game. It has one of the better Zelda stories, some good dungeons, and perhaps the best soundtrack in the series. The motion controls were some of the best on the Wii, it is just by the time the game came out, people were over motion controls. They weren't perfect, but people act like they were broken, but they weren't. It was also a 480p game when everyone had upgraded to HDTV, so you could play Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Portal 2 or any number of great-looking games in a year of phenomenal releases on PS3 and 360, and it made this game feel like it was behind the times.
In wasn’t gonna get this as I have the limited edition on Wii but summers here and they are giving a nice t shirt keyring steel book with this so I’ll wear the t shirt with style
this port actually looks pretty thoughtful as far nintendo ports go., but i just can't do it. no amount QoL's is gonna fix what i don't like about it, which is totally fine.
@TheJGG I had only seen the "Whilst thou soar... Or whilst thou suck" version until recently. I definitely like that one more than the "play like a girl" version
@QBertFarnsworth I played it, and couldn’t even being myself to beat the first dungeon. Got right at the boss room, then just quit since the game wasn’t interesting at all.
Nope, not buying this as I just hooked up my old (very slow) Wii U and still have a copy of the game. Nope, nope!
buys
@TheJGG
Nothing is offensive about it.
Holy cow at playing the trailer at 1080p 60fps. That looks really good and worth the price alone.
Fall? Soar? Can I just pass, instead?
God yes. Pre-order and all. That music.
I have preordered it and cleared the backlog for Skyward Sword.
I dropped out of gaming in the noughties and pretty much missed the Wii era, so I am looking forward to this game when it releases.
@NintendoKnight Yes, there is.
I will pick it up at some point - perhaps I won't bounce off it like I did with the WIIU motion controls. And I may even like it more than BoW which I never even got to the first boss before I quit mostly due to the weapon breaking mechanic.
@abbyhitter
Dolphin.
It does look really nice in HD. Looking forward to playing.
I get the criticisms leveled at this game…
But I really enjoyed it. That last fight against Demise had me off my behind waving the Wii remote like a fool. For all it’s problems, I still feel like I am doing the fighting with this game. Great immersion that way.
I also love all the variety and depth with all the characters. The gratitude crystals quest can get pretty deep. Great game in my book.
I have never played it and I can't wait for my copy to arrive! It looks like amazing adventure.
All those years I only saw few boss battles on YT so it will be pretty new to everything in it.
From the trailer I saw many of the features that are in BOTW
God that makes the game look worse.
Really liked this trailer. I played this from launch back in the day and loved it.
I understand the hate it gets in retrospect, because the hand holding has gone very out fashion in modern games. But at the time it didn't bother me and I got caught up in the extraordinary story.
In terms of the motion controls, I get why they're divisive but I liked them. Some of them were very lame, like the flying mechanic of wagging the control, which felt unnecessary.
But swordplay and motion aiming were very interesting and immersive.
If hero mode is not an from the start I am not playing.
Released 10 years ago at $50, re released virtually at $20. Ported with minimal effort for $60. I love SS and my switch but I understand a lot of the hate with the pricing and the people complaining are right.
@Moonlessky Getting mine for $50 at Walmart.
Hmmmm, this skyward sword must have something to do with the sequel to legend of Zelda:breath of the wild. Can't see a reason while it shouldn't. Nintendo keeps pushing trailers upon trailers about this 10years old game for a reason.
@QBertFarnsworth From what I've heard they've toned the tutorial down a bit.
Personally I think Twilight Princess had a slower beginning.
@TheJGG The trailer itself was pretty good - it was just that one line that was straight up awful. They even released a second version of that trailer really soon after with the line "Whilst thout soar? Or wilst thou suck?" Not terribly classy, I'll admit, but at least it doesn't ruin the trailer.
I'm still on the fence if I'm going to get it or not. I am curious how it plays sans motion controls. I lent my wii copy to my cousin and his wife years ago now, I don't think they've actually played it yet, haha.
@YoungLink64 Agreed. Re-releasing an old game for a modern system has a sweet spot for a price range. This gen, Nintendo is trying to make as much money as possible, so I'm not sure they will ever lower their prices, except during sales.
Okay I'm just confused why they specifically, and directly referenced Link's Awakening and Twilight Princess
This trailer gave me chills.
I am taking it because :
1. Interesting battle mic (rotate instead of spam buttons to hit)
2. I want to play a classic zelda game with dungeons ( yea i am new gen, i just played botw)
3. I want to fly with Loftwing,
@YoungLink64 I know what you're referencing, and fully agree!
Am I the only one that likes the start of the game? It introduces us to the characters, and I like that a lot.
I love this game in my opinion it's as good as any 3d zelda game. I played skyward sword like 12 times by now. 2 playthroughs for each save file on both the wii and wii u. I'm looking forward to the hd version cause it has a lot of the same tweaks as twilight princess hd.
@Lordplops
"Uh, Buzz? We Missed the Truck!"
"W E ' R E N O T A I M I N G F O R T H E T R U C K"
Should have been a triple pack with Windwaker & Twilight Princess
@1UP_MARIO you had me at steelbook…where are they doing that?? I haven’t seen any good preorder bonuses for this.
@Ks123

@1UP_MARIO ah mystery solved, thanks. US here so I’m outta luck 🍀
It sounds like they fixed my only complaint about this game. This trailer put my hype level to 11 and I almost just went and started playing it on my Wii U. This isn’t my favorite zelda, but it’s in the top 3. I loved the motion controls, but i think I will love playing it with buttons even more.
