Hang on — where did September go? Yep, that's right, another month has flown by and it's time to get stuck into the really juicy months of the year. Early in October we've got the heavy hitters of a new Metroid game and new Switch hardware, which would be more than enough to keep us occupied in the summer months, but there's a whole lot more to look forward to over the next few months, including new-old Pokémon.
Below we've listed some of the upcoming highlights of big Switch games scheduled for October and November. Beneath those physical launches you'll also find a selection of other games releasing from September — usually physical versions of previously digital-only Switch eShop games — plus a selection of Switch accessories and related peripherals available in the coming months.
Enjoy!

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania - 5th October
Bringing content and courses from the first three Super Monkey Ball games to Switch, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania got many a super simian enthusiast excited when it was officially announced at E3 2021. It's landing on Switch on soon, so there'll definitely be plenty to keep ball-rolling fans busy once the tenth month of the year rolls round...
Metroid Dread - 8th October
Metroid Dread, the fifth installment in the 2D Metroid franchise is coming a whopping 19 years after Metroid Fusion on the Game Boy Advance, but from what we've seen so far it's going to be worth the wait and then some. With a Special Edition and two new amiibo launching alongside the new game — a joint development between Nintendo and Metroid: Samus Returns developer MercurySteam. — 8th October is shaping up to be red letter day for fans of the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter.
Nintendo Switch OLED Model - 8th October
Oh, and there's the Switch OLED Model launching that day, too. Featuring a lovely (and larger) OLED screen compared to the other two Switch models, it also has double the internal memory, a wider and sturdier kickstand, 'improved' audio of some sort and a a fetching new dock (with a LAN slot) that will make the Switch OLED the premium model — especially for handheld players.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water - 28th October
Previously a Wii U exclusive in the Fatal Frame franchise (known as Project Zero in Europe), Koei Tecmo's Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water was one of the few titles that actually made use of Wii U's central asymmetrical gimmick. That coupled with a lukewarm critical reception made a Switch port seem unlikely — we gave it a 2/10 likelihood of a Switch port in our round-up of the Wii U games not yet on Switch.
The franchise has a devoted and loyal fan base, though, and Koei Tecmo has made the decision to rework the Gamepad elements and bring the game not only to Switch, but other platforms, too. A very welcome surprise!
Mario Party Superstars - 29th October
And finally, just in time for Halloween, we've got Mario Party Superstars arriving at the very end of October.
Updating five boards and 100 minigames from the first three Mario Party games on Nintendo 64, Mario Party Superstars is the second entry in the series to grace Switch following Super Mario Party. While some might call that overkill, these are incredibly popular party games and the mini-games and gentle competition they contain make it hard not to have fun when it's Mario Party time.
Shin Megami Tensei V - 12th November
This Switch exclusive from Atlus was first announced way back in 2017. We've had to wait a while for it, although Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster arrived on 25th May, so SMT fans on Switch have had something to chew on for the last few months until the new game hits.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - 19th November
Announced as part of February 2021's Pokémon Presents showcase celebrating the franchise's 25th anniversary, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are Switch remakes of the DS entries that lacked the extra adjectives
Fifteen years since the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl brought Gen IV and the series to a non-Game Boy handheld, we'll get to relive our Sinnoh days on Switch through the lens of a chibi style unique to the series (so far).
There's also the Switch Lite Pokémon Dialga & Palkia Edition releasing a couple of weeks earlier on 5th November if you can't get enough of new Switch hardware.

What?! Lego Marvel is releasing that soon? I'll have to grab Monkey Ball, Metroid, Mario Party, and that then
I'm really holding out to see if I can get my hands on a collectors edition of Metroid Dread, but there's only been a couple brief windows, and I've missed them both by a mile.
I'm also hoping that the amiibo 2-pack becomes easily available after release, like the Loftwing Zelda is.
The big months are finally here! Grabbing Monkey Ball, Metroid, and Mario Party this month (and maybe a Switch OLED, not sure yet), and then SMT V, KOTOR, and Brilliant Diamond next month!
Might grab RE Village to play for Halloween too
Wow, what a games! Just a small 40 bucks to spend this month.... hmm... Nickelodeon All star? Mario Party Superstars? Super Monkey Ball? We will see!
Looking forward to getting my hands on that new Switch dock. Haven't seen the Nintendo Store put it up for sale yet.
Mario Party Superstars
Metroid Dread
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond
Super Monkey Banana Mania
Does anyone know if Lego Marvel Super Heros will have a physical release? Might double dip on that (I have it on PS4, but would like it on Switch as well), if it does.
Already have Metroid Dread pre-install for launch.
Metroid Dread, definitely
Mario Party Superstars and SMT V at some point
Lots of good games coming out over the next few months!
Definitely Metroid Dread, though I'll likely also get Fatal Frame (on Steam though), and I'll keep my eye on SMTV too.
Just spent about $100 in the current Steam sale (Final Fantasy Type 0 HD, Gun Gun Pixies, Neir Automata, Onechanbara Origin, Star Ocean: the Last Hope HD, Sword Art Online: Re:Hollow Fragment, Sword Art Online: Lost Song, & Tales of Symphonia) so I need to watch my next purchases.
@Desrever this is my hope too. I couldn't get the Loftwing amiibo before release, but then a month later it was everywhere. I'm hoping for that availability for the Dread Amiibo double pack. Now as for the collectors edition, ugh. Who knows if that will be back in stock or not.
Been playing the Deluxe version of MonkeyBall. And I gotta say, two things:
1. It’s not as bad as NL’s 7 they gave it and
2: do yourself the favor, get the original soundtrack. It’s WAY better than the new one.
I don’t know if the soundtrack is sold separately. If not, I’d seriously shell out the extra 10 bucks for infinitely better music.
No love for Disco Elysium makes me sad.
October? N64 games of course!!
Metroid Dread ready to go! Download finished, only waiting for the day. I wish I could unlock it earlier...
💷My Buys from this month will be:
🔸️Doki Doki Literature Club Plus
🔸️PokéMon Diamond AND Pearl
🔸️Poirot: The First Cases
🔸️Road 96
in that order and ALL PHYSICAL💾
You forgot to attach a link to Undernauts up there. As it's out on the 28th of October. People need to buy this amazing game!
Too many games coming out this month, help...

(sees Ori: The Collection)
Me: So,... Um, what were you saying?
(sees My Friend Peppa Pig)
Me: That's it! You lost me.
For real, this is the month where I can finally buy a 2021 game with Metroid Dread. So far I've only bought games from past years, I'm doing a little bit of catch-up with Switch games. For the rest of the year I'm planning to get Miitopia, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, New Pokémon Snap, WarioWare: Get It Together!, and Cruis'n Blast if I come across its physical version.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl also has my attention, but I need to see how it fares with no voice acting.
OMG... 😀
I will definitely pick :
Blaze and the Monster Machines: Axle City Racers
The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf
My Universe: Puppies and Kittens
My Universe: Interior Designer
Just Metroid and SMTV, until Advance Wars in Dec. Will even be getting Dread not long after launch.
But seriously, £59 from that awful rip-off Amazon shop! That’s £10 more than the RRP from UK Nintendo store, to say nothing of the excellent indies like thegamecollection, 365 and shopto.
Does anyone know what happen to Outer Wilds? It’s nowhere to be seen
Metroid Dread, Project Zero 5 and Shin Megami Tensei V for me. That's more than enough to keep me busy until... I don't know, maybe Pokemon Legends XD
@Anti-Matter Truly, these are this years' genre-defining greats.
@IceClimbers
Highly recommend Village. One of my favourite game of the year so far (PC).
I’m a huge Metroid fan but… I’ll wait before diving into Dread. Definitely getting the OLED. May purchase Warioware or Mario Party but TBD.
I’m still working on my backlog so I’m not in any rush (Into the Breach, Pikmin 3, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Links Awakening…)
One more week , one more week . . Xxx
Metroid Dread, SMT V, KOTOR, Castlevania Advance, and probably Fatal Frame for me. Dang it's gonna be an expensive month!
Lego marvel and then........ hope Nintendo is still stashing that holiday title
"Illmatic Envelope Swamp"
That is one hell of a game name. Jesus. I am intrigued!!!
Dying light(after reviews) Lego marvel and Ty collection. Pretty quiet few months for me to be honest.
I have Metroid Dread on preorder now, it should get here by launch day. Would love to get Mario Party Superstars as well.
Metroid Dread
Switch Lite BD/SP Edition
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond
Getting Metroid Dread because how can I not. I may get Fatal Frame as my Halloween game. I want Pokemon: Brilliant Diamond because I have somehow gone my whole life never playing a Pokemon game and I decided to change that. Also many games for wishlist including Super Monkey Ball and Mario Party Superstars.
This month for me:
1. Switch OLED already pre-ordered and pumped!
2. Metroid Dread
3. Fatal Frame
4. Maybe Mario Party if the online is decent.
5. N64 online + controller
Next month:
1. Pokémon
2. Zelda Game & Watch (preordered)
The real OLED Switch launch title is Tetris Effect not Metroid. People will be talking in the next few weeks about how good the OLED screen looks with Tetris Effect. It's the best game to showcase OLED - and it's not a coincidence that it launched with the OLED Switch, Nintendo knows what they are doing.
Sweet, was waiting for that Huntdown physical. Was briefly excited to see Ty, then realized one of the games is a download code .
Thanks for the article.
Nintendo Switch OLED (white)
Metroid Dread
Doki Literature Club
Dying light
Mario Party Superstars
Fatal Frame 5
Shin Megami Tensei 5
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond
Danganronpa Collection
Not including PS5 games. The rest of the year will be packed with new games to play 😁. So many games, so little time to play them all 😅
I want it...I just want Dread now, please. Got my SE, the amiibo, the controller, and the case (which I will almost assuredly never use). Next week is all Metroid, all the time, and I cannot f'ing wait.
Do you really think L.O.L. Surprise! Movie Night will be an awesome game?
Guardians of the Galaxy was left off the list for October.
My month is Metroid, OLED Switch, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Mario Party, what an awesome month!
And I’m still currently playing Tony Hawk, Mario Golf, and Octopath Traveler. What a great time for the Switch!
Heads up that Fatal Frame is $39.99 for the asia eng version, and is releasing November 30 according to play-asia site. The japan version is ~ten dollars more, and says it's releasing October 28.
What on earth is The Caligula Effect 2?
How is this even a sequel to an existing game?
8 games there that are probably insta-buys or insta-downloads and 2 or 3 that need reliable reviewer thoughts.
Good for me, not good for ma wallet.
