Re: Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle Will Be A "Limited Time" Offer

Bobobiwan

I really want the game in physical but there's a 50 bucks difference in my usual stores with the bundle. FIFTY.

That's crazy.

Now, what I want to know is : is that due to a very special price for the bundle, or does the digital edition will come at a price much cheaper than its physical part ?

I'm on the fence to cancel my preorder for the regular console and make one for the bundle.

I don't know : maybe it is time to let go physical cartridges. With this new ability to share your games, and all...

And that price !

Re: Nintendo Direct Confirmed For Tomorrow, 27th March 2025

Bobobiwan

Mario Kart 9 may be cross-gen, and so, be presented as soon as tomorrow.

I must admit I find it very strange to put those two directs so close to each other, I fear it could undermine the Switch 2 direct of next week...

But, hey, bring it on, Nintendo ! Like a very wise man said once upon a time : MY BODY IS READY !!

Re: Bayonetta Character Designer Celebrates Series' 15th Anniversary With New Art

Bobobiwan

@Yalloo Just to be cristal clear : if people like and enjoy Bayonetta 3, I'm perfectly good with that and I'm even happy for them

I absolutely did not know that Kamiya has said such things about an eventual Bayonetta 4. I thank you for this intel, cause it genuinely makes me feel curious about the following of this series.

For the gameplay part, I agree with you that the "Demons Summoning" are a great addition to the overall mechanics of the game. That part is quite good, I must admit.

But I was especially referencing (maybe in a clumsy way) to the level design (so yeah, not actual gameplay in itself, I know) : I just found the game so boring to play, for the most part. And the Viola gameplay did not manage to "click" for me, I was so frustrated for not being able to dodge like a proper witch ^^

Now that I remember it, what I did LOVE about this game was the Cereza demo that came out with it. It was really good in my opinion, and made me want to play the full game (I still have to do it).

Anyway, I sincerely hope I did not offend you or any Bayo-3-defender with my prose : it's just that the writing of this game stabbed me too deep, and too slowly. And too painfully.

And I consider myself as someone pretty open on this kind of treason, from a narrative point of view. I, for example, loved being fooled by Kojima on MGS 2, as I wrote, or by Druckman on The Last of Us 2 (even if it took me some time for this one).

Hell, even recently, I found myself defending with everything I got "Joker Folie à Deux", which I consider a genius move in the fact that it never gives to the audience what they thought they went to to get. It is a commercial suicide and at the same time, a proper and magnificent artistic coup d'état.

But the ending of Bayonetta 3... When we see her dance and fade away... I was in shock.

It was just too much for me, I guess ! ^^

Re: Bayonetta Character Designer Celebrates Series' 15th Anniversary With New Art

Bobobiwan

The first Bayonetta is one of the very, very few games that I did multiple times. I finished it on 360, on PS3, on Wii U, on Xbox Series X (HD Remaster) and on Switch.

Bayonetta 2 is a masterpiece, one of my fondest memories on Wii U.

That's why I got so ANGRY playing the third one, on Switch, when I finally discovered it this very year.

Never in my gaming life I felt so insulted, as a gamer, as a fan, as a consumer, as whatever you want.

Gaming-wise, first, it's not very good. It's an ugly game (when Bayo 1 and 2 are so beautiful, on the same console - the Switch !) but even more, the levels are uninspired (straight line, from the bottom to finish) and, well, not fun to play.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

But the story, man. They just killed my girl. They killed her for fun, for the sake of doing something new. And I'm not even talking about the ending, I'm talking about her spirit, about what made this particular character so great in 1 and 2.

They went the Kojima-way, trying the "Raiden move" from MGS2 on us, but without the genius of Hideo-San.

They chose to make the great and lovable character we had in the two previous games, well... TWO characters. Two different, and separate characters. Among millions. And so, irrelevant characters.

And they told us that the real one, the supposed point of origin, would have to be this ersatz of a character we have in this third entry : a Bayonetta who has lost her pride, her anger, who's not fun anymore, who fall in love (!) without any ambiguity, neither mystery.

AND they gave us Viola, instead. I won't even start on this one.

The magic was lost, completely.

I consider this game a treason, really. The ending credits made me cry, but not in a good way. I was sad, and furious at the same time. Well, as strong as you can be for a game (so : not that strong) but still.

I still love 1 and 2, with all my gamer's heart.
And I sincerely hate 3.

Sorry, Viola.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

Bobobiwan

I HAVE NO WORD TO EXPRESS MY FEELINGS, RIGHT NOW !!

Ok, I may have some : Xeno X is the jewel of my collection since a lot of years, one of those games that managed to suck me in completely, and it was the very reason for my Wii U to still be plugged in in 2024.

However, my Wii U was dying. The famous corrupt error, 160-0103. No longer able to play Smash, to play Mario 3D World... Xeno X was still fine, but I fear for it since last year.

And now you tell me that this entire world is saved and will endure, but that I'll be able to take it in my pocket ?!!?

What a happy day.

NB : Oh, I may begin to think that Nintendo won't effectively tell a thing about the Switch 2 before Christmas.

Maybe next year...

Re: Some Fans Aren't Happy About Sonic X Shadow Generations' Changes To The Original

Bobobiwan

I'm really sick of all of these little changes here and there, just to be in the mood of whatever the feeling, or whatever the way...

It's not much, it's not life and death, it's nothing. But it's there.

And it's like Dragon Quest III. A game that I'm still getting day one, off course. Those little changes won't prevent me to enjoy the game (DQVIII already did those kind of things on 3DS).

But it's a pity. Unnecessary and ridiculous, in my opinion. But I can be wrong.

Or getting too old, I don't know.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms He's Working On A New Game

Bobobiwan

Exactly the day I dusted out my 3DS XL to try, FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME... Kid Icarus Uprising.

A game that has been dormant in my backlog for more than ten years !

And it's pure magic. I can't believe how good this game is.

You immediately notice the similarities with the Smash Bros franchise : the UI is sick, everything pops out of the screen, but more importantly... the game is fun.

Sakurai really seems to know how to design a really fun game, the kind that truly entertains you.

Can't wait for his next project ! (and this one won't go onto that evil backlog).

Re: Nintendo Is Adding Paper Mario 64 To Switch Online's Expansion Pack, Out Next Week

Bobobiwan

@Haruki_NLI I don't know, really.

All digital ? Sure, it's already here. Kinda.

But all subscription ? I honestly think it's a loss-loss situation.

For example, I've read that gamepass subscribers tend to buy more games than the non-subscribers. I honestly didn't understand why until I subscribed myself : now, I'm all for digital, gamepass is a thing that allow me to try games and when I really like them, I buy them. In sales, eventually, but still.

The same thing could totally apply for Nintendo : the NSO for accessing all retro-games avalaible, but also an option to buy the ones we trully like. That would definitly make my day.

Re: Nintendo Is Adding Paper Mario 64 To Switch Online's Expansion Pack, Out Next Week

Bobobiwan

I just don't understand why we can not ALSO buy the games separatly, if we want to.

Just like the Gamepass or the Playstation Now services. A subscription is a good idea ("just pay a few fee - play ALL these games !") but we HAVE to be able to choose an alternative.

Imagine if all games avalaible to gamepass were exclusives to this programm. Like... you just can't buy Halo or Forza. It's subscription or nothing. It's just insane.

I love my Nintendo games, and I would happily buy some of these classics again (like, for the fourth or fifth time !) but this subscription-hostage situation really don't suit my playstyle...

Re: Don't Forget About Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, It's Also Out Now On Nintendo Switch

Bobobiwan

This might be my favorite game of all time. I still have my Xbox copy, like brand new, and it was that game who made me buy a Xbox One X at the time - no kidding - when it was announced as a retro-compatible game.
I did play it again on it, and it was magnificent to see my beloved game going for the glory of HD graphics.

Now, a portable version ? 16/9 (the game is still 4/3 on Xbox) but no garbage touch control (like the cellphone version) ? Choice of langages ? Off course I'm in, once again !

Re: Looks Like Dune's Coming To Fortnite

Bobobiwan

Just my two cents to tell you guys that I saw the film some weeks ago (it released last month in Europe) and that it's a MASTERPIECE.
Like, really.

Something you HAVE TO SEE IN THEATERS. I know that most of you guys can access to HBO Max (not the case in my country) but this is more than a movie, for me. It's... an experience. Something crazy. World building unlike anything.

Like... The last time I really BELIEVED in a world like this, in cinema, it was for the LORD OF THE RINGS. And that's because they constructed everything, kept the green screens to very minimal possible, and took the time necessary to install their story, their characters.

The cast is awesome. Really awesome.
The costumes, the set, same.
As is the writing.

For the fans of the book, it's the holy graal. The "box" scene is just a masterclass of writing and acting, in my opinion. And I'm saying that, this was my favorite scene from the Lynch movie (which I've always liked, despite its flaws).

Just go see it. On the bigger screen possible. We only see this kind of films once in a decade.

Re: Nintendo Leaker Suggests Pricing Of Switch Online's Expansion Pack Could Be Tied To "Licensing Costs"

Bobobiwan

I just realized, this morning, that the very difference between this service and Xbox's gamepass, outside of the price or even the value of the package (which can be debated) is that on Xbox, you can STILL BUY those games if you don't feel the like to subscribe.

On Switch, it kinda feels like an hostage situation : if you want to play these retro games (on this platform, off course), you HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE. You just can't buy them. You can't acquire them, outside of this service.

And I'm beginning to think that this is the real problem, here. A subscription service is fine, and it's a good thing that Nintendo provides this option for its players. But in a way, it's not really an option. You just have to subscribe.

I'm still enjoying Metroid Zero Mission on WiiU. I bought that game, I wanted to keep it. I'd love to have an option, on Switch, to just buy the retro games I'm interested in. And off course, the subscription would still be the best deal out there (like Gamepass), but I would like to get the option to really buy my games.

On Playstation and Xbox, you can buy the games that are included in their services, if you want to keep them.

Here, we just can't.

Re: Don't Worry, 3D All-Stars' Super Mario 64 Will Still Likely Be The Definitive Switch Version

Bobobiwan

I have to thank Nintendo Life for that, cause the bad buzz on this 3D collection ("it's just roms ! Nintendo is just taking esay money !") almost prevented me to buy it.

And when I read your review of this version of Mario 64, I decided to buy it anyway. You're the only website where I found this kind of details, about the improved resolution of texts, icons of that kind of thing.

And as a matter of fact, I did find myself amazed by this version. I played a lot Mario 64 on Wii, then on Wii U. I still got those two versions. But the texts ar so fuzzy that it's almost unreadable.

In this 3D all star version, everything is so sharp. It really is, for me, the best way to experience Mario 64 today. And I can do it on the go.

So thanks again for the deep analysis you gave, back then.

Re: Metroid Dread Sparks Improved Sales For Past Games In The Series

Bobobiwan

I'm doing a new playthrought of Zero Mission on my good old WiiU, just to show it to my kids. I've got those games till day one, but still a pleasure to play them.

The GBA emulation was really good, on WiiU : the ability to play it on the gamepad, or on the TV, to activate a nice filter to smooth the picture (not usually fan of those things, but in that case, I find that the effect just works : Golden Sun, for example, is a delight to play on TV, like this) and all the instructions manuals properly scanned, included in the game to consult them offline... It was really great.

Cant' wait to play Dread at Christmas xD

Re: Dragon Quest Composer Koichi Sugiyama Has Passed Away

Bobobiwan

He was a real genius, a proper master.

I remember the shock that it was to my ears when I launched Dragon Quest VIII on my PS2, back then (we had the version with orchestral music). It was just phenomenal.

The Dragon Quest theme is so emblematic. It just screams at you the word "Adventure !". Pure magic.

Thanks for everything you gave us, Mister Sugiyama.

Re: Feature: Seriously, What The Heck Is Going On Inside Samus’ Morph Ball?

Bobobiwan

Can we just point out how well-written this all article was ? How funny it was, but in a smart way ?

The question HAD TO BE asked. And in all honesty, I didn't expect to find any real answers, here. Which is a shame, cause I did.

I did find answers. Finally.

Thank you, Nintendo Life !! xD

(Oh, and I never, never thought about the shrinking theory. That's a good one, really ! )

Re: Uh-Oh, Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Might Be 50Hz In Europe

Bobobiwan

Well... The problem wasn't really sorted on WiiU neither, cause lots of Virtual Consoles games lost their translation in the process.

For exemple : I've got Mario 64 on Wii - it's the PAL version with multi-langage, designed for European players. And I've also got it on WiiU : NTSC - so yeah, faster gameplay - but also less vibrant colors and... english only. Wich is a little annoying for young kids who does not master Shakespeare's mother tongue.

So, for this Switch NSO thing... I personnally tend now to prefer the PAL versions : not because they're better (I don't pretend they are) but simply because they're the versions we were used to play, when we were younger.

And that's the all point of this process, from my point of view : nostalgia.

So I guess I'm ok with that.

Re: Round Up: Here's Everything That Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct September 2021

Bobobiwan

One of the best Nintendo Direct I've seen in a long time !
I was totally unaware of any sort of leak, so finally seeing Bayonetta 3 at the end was a really great moment, to me.

The N64 games are a great thing to add to the service, too, but the cost will be a key thing, here. Banjo on the go is a nice touch. Maybe we'll finally be able to see the likes of Diddy Kong Racing, since Nintendo and Microsoft / Rare seems to really like working with each other, now.

Let me dream a little, by the way (even if I know there are legal rights problems, with other parties) : maybe we'll even see Golden Eye on that service ?

Oh, and finally : Star Wars KOTOR. Being able to redo this masterpiece on the go, for me, is way more exciting that the remake promise. So that was a really good announcement, as far as I'm concerned.

I really liked this direct !

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Hacker Arrested For Selling Modified Save Data

Bobobiwan

I honestly don't understand this all case. I don't understand the very fact that there's even a market for this.

Like... we don't even talk about an MMORPG, where some players can be encouraged to boost theirs characters in order to catch up with friends, or else.

We're talking about an adventure game. A solo, offline, game. So what was the point of all that ? In the name of Hyrule, WHO BUY THIS KIND OF THING ? o_O

Re: Should I Buy A Switch OLED? Which Nintendo Switch Is Best For Me?

Bobobiwan

I only own a Lite right now, and I'm digging to trade it for a regular Switch, cause I wanted to try the TV play.

I was waiting for the infamous Pro model, but since there seems to be a very long time before we eventually see it, I'll go for the OLED model. My good old Vita still looks incredible thanks to that screen, so that's a no brainer decision to me.

I'll trade my Lite for an OLED, and buy Metroid with it. Merry christmas to all.

Re: Nintendo Confirms That Around 160,000 Accounts May Have Been Hacked, Personal Info Possibly At Risk

Bobobiwan

No, no and NO. I should not have to download some googly-stuff to a smartphone in order to secure something that's already supposed to be secured.
It seems that my account was affected (received emails notifying attempts to connect from china, india and more...) cause I used to log with this Nintendo ID method.
But why is there two methods to log, anyway ? What is all this mess ? Nintendo, I love you, but you really need to step up your game with everything online related...
