Just in case it had slipped your mind, here's a reminder that the Splatoon 2 Special Demo 2020, available to download from the Switch eShop as we speak, will be going live tomorrow.
By downloading this special software option from the eShop, you'll be able to jump online and splat it out in 4-on-4 Turf War battles with friends and even go shoulder to shoulder with those who own the full game. It gets even better, too, because you'll also have the chance to check out the game's Ranked Battles and the Salmon Run co-op mode.
The demo launches alongside a seven-day free trial of Nintendo Switch Online; if you're not subscribed, you can head to the 'Nintendo Switch Online' section of the Switch eShop to get set up. The Splatoon demo itself will run from Thursday 30th April at 12:00 CEST until Wednesday 6th May at 23:59 CEST, giving you practice before the upcoming bonus Splatfest event later in the month.
If you like what you play and want to get the full game after trying it out, you'll be able to download Splatoon 2 at 33% off up until Sunday 10th May, and you can also save 25% on the Splatoon 2 + Octo Expansion bundle if you're wanting to go all out.
Will this be your first time trying Splatoon? Any seasoned players thinking of jumping back in for the final Splatfest? Tell us below.

Already got the game so I'm all good for Splatfest.
Pretty cool stress test, can adjust the servers needed for the rest of Splatoons life. Smart move as always Nintendo.
Just recently got back into splatoon after a friend picked up the game. Well keen for a splatfest as i never got round to playing one before. And the demo is ideal aswell as another mate asked about it recently. Truly off the hook!
yess gonna try this demo tomorrow, looks good
Had it when it first came out, played it loads, sold it when I stopped playing it about a year ago though.
Will be downloading it tomorrow and will probably buy it digital whilst 33% off.
Once again excited by the prospect of the motion controlled shooter.
Splatoon 1&2 are, in my opinion two of the finest games ever made.
Another Splatfest? Wow, how did I miss this news?
I’m trying to convince a couple of my friends to check it out and play with me. Hopefully they’ll enjoy Splatoon as much as I do!
I borrowed it from the library a couple of months ago to play the single player - no NO - but never got around to it. If I can download this to get yet another 1 week free trial of NO, my 4th or 5th, I'll do that to give ACNH online another try, no success so far.
Great for those on the fence to try the game out... Really if you have a Switch I consider it one of the few must buy games....
I've wanted to try this one for a long time ! Consider me in !
I dusted this off after over a year yesterday to show the kids. We had lots of fun, and were even on the winning team a few times.
Being rusty and most people online being experts that is a really welcoming experience, especially compared to online fighting games where I get put off by the barrier to entry.
Wow, I thought splatfests were done. I wonder if this will have something to do with a Splatoon 3 announcement. Either way, I'm pumped for this splatfest!
They should keep the splatfest going in this game. They probably had a huge drop in players after they quit doing them.
Demo? Well there goes my theory of Splatoon 3 this year.
I got the demo and am looking forward to it going live!
I got the game for almost a year now, but actually just started playing a few months ago and I love it!
Great game!
Really excited for the Splatfest!
@HardcoreDaBoss this game was a ghost town after they stopped doing them. It didn't happen straight away but man oh man was it obvious by start of this year. The game was all but dead.
Which actually further proves how shallow it actually is, it needs to be subsidised with additional content to make it worth engaging with.
On its own it's actually rather shallow and boring. Without Splatfests this game is dead.
Nintendo obviously figured this out so to squeeze more money out of people, they bring back splatfest.
They will probably bring it back ONE TIME, people as normal will get suckered into paying full price for a game that'll be dead in a month.
Edit: there will be people who try and say "no this game isn't dead what are you talking about" yada yada yada, but the truth is, I enjoyed this game for about 2 months, then splatfests were killed off and slowly the player base died off with it. I was watching it happen. Trying to squeeze out any bit of fun that was left. But it became painfully clear that without SF, this game has no legs.
Not falling for it again. On other games, because I already have this game so I'm passed 'falling for it' this time... But next time, they won't get me with it lol.
I played the Wii U version for a bit until I was able to afford a couple nice outfits, which was my goal in the game overall, so I stopped playing after I achieved that, and decided to skip Splatoon 2 because I didn't think it added anything significant to the game. I have been curious about it at certain points though, and now that it'll be free...
The silly show they do every time you load the game keeps me from playing it too often.
The single player is great, save for that terrible sniper rifle. It shoots about 10 feet or something.
@StevenG I have four copies of this and Luigi's mansion 3. My family often chooses Luigi to lan party just because it's much simpler to start.
I've got this demo, and still have the original "Global Testfire" demo from two years ago, 2019 demo, and the whole game 😋 True story. You totally can't play Global Testfire, but I like having the game tile on my homescreen as a memento.
I've never played the game and really curious, definitely gonna try this!
I enjoyed last years demo, that was fun, scratched any Splatoon itch I had. Will probably do the same here, play the demo for a bit then move on.
I picked the game up again recently, need to get around to getting the Octo Expansion too. Got used to things in single player then hopped on for a couple of turf wars. Nice to see my inking skills haven't gotten too bad. Part of me always wishes they added a DLC pack to play the missions from the first game in the second.
@Razer lol k. Love this game and have been playing since launch. I've wanted some friends to get it but it's hard telling people to spend $80 on a game. Really happy the demo will allow parties with people who own the game (even tho I hear it's a pain, matchmaking that is), and the inclusion of salmon run! Hopefully they get hooked and are interested in buying it on sale

@Grim I don't know why the game is $80 for you guys, are you from the states?
It was £40 when I got it in May last year. Which was brand new on Amazon, I just also looked and it's still the same price.
Considering Nintendo games are normally £50-55 quid brand new on release and some games like Odessy and Botw still are, but Splatoon is lower for whatever reason.
You sure it's still $80 for you? That's kinda criminal if so.
@Razer Canada. All AAA first party video game releases, or at least new ones, on all platforms, are 79.99. While they go on sale on other consoles, well we all know how Nintendo is. It's unfortunate but it is what it is
How do we get the free 7 day trial?
Didn't receive an email code after downloaded the demo. So can't play!
