My issue with this is still that the adventure becomes that little bit less enjoyable when I can't go catch a Mareanie and an Absol first chance I get, slap an everstone on Mareanie when possible, and outfit myself with 4 chosen Pokémon from the new generation.
Who knows, maybe I will get to catch a Mareanie and/or an Absol. But right now, I can't be sure. Also, you can replace those two with any other two, and you have the woes of another Pokémon fan.
It's still not okay to not include them all.
People make poor arguments like these mons infesting battle spot and so on, but they really only do that if the battlespot ruleset lets them.
A sensible battlespot ruleset would keep a healthy battlespot despite the inclusion of every Pokémon, legendary or not.
This isn't review-bombing though. This is just a bunch of legit scores.
Does anybody actually think FIFA 20 is worth even a cent on Switch? I mean cmon, how much abuse would you have to have already suffered to acquire that kind of Stockholm Syndrome?
"Most of the assets were just ported from the 3ds (although we are lied about that it isn’t and everything is from the ground up)"
Wrong. They were unable to port the old assets so they had to rebuild it from the ground up. This is pretty common, porting isn't just a 1:1 job, issues are almost always present.
"The open area aspect look ok although the graphics are comparable to Wii games instead of being on the lvl of BOTW or XC2 graphically"
Yeah no, untrue. Just check out XC on the wii. This is well above that.
"The Pokémon in the open are are just walking around aimlessly"
I'll give you that - although what did you expect them to do? How much did you need? Should they nibble on apples or what?
"They are claiming to “not have enough time” to bring the all the Pokémon when it is actually a decision that was taken at the start of development of the game to save money on development (oh no, more money on development for a game that cost less than 50 million to create and earn 600 million at bare minimum), if they really didn’t have time they should have brought more developers to help on the project"
A decision to omit certain material due to a lack of time taken at the beginning of the project is the norm. You forget that they need to set a project timeline and they need to stick to it. Simple as that.
Doesn't mean its a good decision. But you'll rarely find a company who doesn't make such a huge decision at the beginning of a project.
"They took away mega and z-moves which made them from fighting elements to timed gimmicks And so on"
Just like they've taken away other gimmicks present over time. That's what they do. Remove old stuff, put in some new. Rinse and repeat. This is nothing new, so why complain about it now?
"I am pretty hyped for the game regardless but I am really annoyed with their lies and disrespect towards the audience who buy their games"
They haven't lied, so yeah, no need to be annoyed at that.
"Considering how much money Pokémon is making, it won’t be a problem for game freak (who get money for every Pokémon merchandise and game that is being sold and anything Pokémon that makes money) to build more teams to work on Pokémon or at least expend the current team to give a game in the lvl we deserve,"
Definitely true. They should upgrade their dev teams to twice their current size, no doubt.
" while this game look almost like a port from the 3ds to the Switch with updated graphics and an added element of open world in certain parts...."
Can't agree here, I'd go as far as say you'd have to be blind to have this opinion.
@Tantani On the contrary, the trailers show excellent growth in terms of bringing the series forth both graphically and in terms of expression of the franchise.
If the B-team is indeed the ones working on Sword/Shield, they're doing one hell of a job. The games look absolutely beautiful and beyond the lack of all Pokémon, I can't find any faults with it yet really.
Even I find the decision not to bring over all Pokémon absolutely nonsensical, but beyond that, there's been nothing to pick at. It's as AAA as it gets.
@Tantani You do know that A) Game Freak has ALWAYS worked like this, aka split into two, and it's been the exact same situation during the development of EVERY Pokémon game, as well as B) Due to the fact that the team working on Sword/Shield and the team working on Little Town Hero being two different teams, Neither of the games have hurt each other, right?
@SBandy Well, I guess we'll agree to disagree on the playstation thing. I dumped my playstation exactly because they're doing nothing new, and Uncharted 4, God of War and TLoU (R), amongst others, are just reskins of the same old gameplay I've seen since late PS2 era where they stopped bothering to innovate in playstation games.
More power doesn't matter if they keep making boring gameplay that remains exactly the same as always. Sure, it looks much better now than it used to, but I've been there, done that.
It is simply not a quality experience for me. Storywise, things are good, but that's simply not enough to carry the experience. I'm not watching a movie, I'm playing a game.
Regarding EvaEeveeFan, I think that's just how blunt she is everywhere, as it is probably how she communicates. Sure, she should reflect on her own language and actions, but you're not much better in that respect at this very moment.
@EvaEeveeFan While Sbandy was a bit extreme, I don't think he meant any harm. On the other hand, you were also a bit extreme in terms of opinion, anyway.
Also, something I often see is that people tend to assume everyone else knows about their situation. We don't, sadly. Thus, it becomes harder to distinguish between animosity and extraordinary bluntness caused by internal conditions.
Nobody who doesn't know you has any idea that you are autistic. Of course that doesn't make it okay to call you names or anything, but this is the internet, and people feel 3 times bigger here than anywhere else, because there are rarely consequences (and @Sbandy I'm not taking potshots at you, I've probably been much much worse at times with people I don't know).
Sometimes you just gotta take a step back, @EvaEeveeFan, and assess the situation. It's not easy, especially if you're battling with the type of autism I think you are, but remember: They don't know you, and you don't know them. If people start becoming personal, maybe just reply that such animosity isn't really the best way forward for either of you, and maybe you could either agree to disagree or try to find common ground.
@SBandy Is EvaEeveeFan wrong though? I don't really think so. Throughout the last decade, we've seen close to zero innovation coming from both Sony and Microsoft in terms of software AND hardware. All they've done is stack on more power, and more graphics.
Nintendo, meanwhile, has been working a different angle, attempting to innovate games and gaming, and provide something NEW.
People praise games like The Last of Us and Spiderman, and yes, they've got some excellent points (TLoU story is strong, and Spiderman has solid gameplay), but in the end, are they "new"? Are they "innovative"? Do they provide anything that we haven't seen before?
No. Because why would they? The same old same old sells well, so why innovate?
In my opinion, Sony/Microsoft aren't bad companies with bad consoles and bad games. They just don't really show me anything I haven't seen before. Nintendo does that.
So while the "Xbox/Sony wouldn't exist" is a bit extreme, I can see the point in that if people actually appreciated innovation and didn't want to just play every game the exact same way as they've always done, there would certainly be a major shift.
@BarefootBowser It actually is as silly as I'm making out.
Johnvboy gave you a bit of an explanation, which should be sufficient.
They've also changed a few key parts and revised the size of certain items, meaning it is highly unlikely that they could've just retained major (read: crucial) parts of the OG stuff in the first place.
@puddinggirl Yeah, I'll never get some people. I mean honestly, who in the world thought "wait, they priced it lower and said it was handheld only... BUT WHAT IF? MAYBE THEY SPENT THE MONEY ON THE EXTRA HARDWARE ANYWAY AND PUT IT INSIDE THE LITE, BUT WITHOUT MAKING A PORT FOR IT?!"
Like, dude, no. Why would they lower the consumer price, pay the same themselves, and release a nearly identical (and therefore purposeless) device?
But I guess it's cool nowadays to be those kids who go "but what if they actually made it exactly like the OG switch anyway", without considering the description and marketing of the product as well as possible production cost increases by keeping said components in the device.
It having TV output would be completely ridiculous when it is advertised as purely handheld. I don't know why this is news-worthy xD. It's basically placing an article on the website writing "Hey! Switch Lite, a purely handheld gaming device, is a purely handheld gaming device. Have a good one!".
@Knuckles-Fajita Well, I'm terribly sorry to say it, but this IS how your country is.
You said it yourself. The stereotypes are admittedly accurate. Regardless of what you feel, Great Britain isn't being viewed wrongly from the outside.
My best friend is British, and also (like me) a fan of Pokémon. His first remark after he saw the initial trailers of sword/shield was "Man, we're gonna get worshipped in terms of design but roasted where it really hurts: Reality. This place is excellent simply because for once, all the stereotypes actually exist as the commonplace representation of the country."
"Well i guess you're just lucky😜. Never had a red ring of death then?"
I did not.
"Also you're wrong - they fixed mine for free and im from the UK, i have a good friend from Germany and they fixed his for free too and i know their fixing them for free in the US and Japan too... so..."
People are sending them in from all over with various issues, but you know the issue that people typically go to Reddit to whine about? Drifting. There's probably a daily thread there, and the usual complaint is "wtf, i gotta pay for this despite it being free in the US".
So obviously there's another reason for you not having to pay that doesn't have anything to do with the drifting.
"Also i can show you my order details when i raised the repair order and their messages and how they acknowledged the drift issue and they fixed the issue and have now dispatched it back.
I more than happy to forward you all the emails if you really want to be proven stupidly wrong online - we can go that far if you wish it 😝😝😝"
This says more about you than it does about me tbh. Also, there's not really any proof to be had, because Nintendo support works like so many others - every case is an individual judgment, two cases with the same issue can have two different outcomes.
The operator in charge of your support decides your fate.
"Lol, what?? If they’re not guilty they wouldn’t have a bunch of joy cons to fix. There is obviously some truth to the lawsuit."
Facepalm. That's the same thing as saying they'd be guilty of hardware defects if they had switch units to fix. "Oh my God they're actually REPAIRING SWITCHES? Must be hardware defects. Let's sue!" kek.
"Um, right — that’s where the lawsuit was filed. If Nintendo had no wrongdoing then they wouldn’t be fixing them for free and would have just stuck to their guns, and continued to make money on repairs and pitting the blame on consumers. Its not often Nintendo backs away from a fight, especially one concerning quality. It is admitting the fault in a discrete way cause they want to avoid the word “recall”. The US is one of the largest markets, so it is pretty remarkable that you just shrug it off as no big deal cause other regions don’t have it set as their policy."
The way I see it, fixing them for free during the course of the lawsuit is common business sense, because you're essentially minimizing damage if things go south (and, as is widely known, regardless of what the truth is, the "good guys" don't always win. This doesn't mean I'm saying Nintendo is innocent, but I'm not saying they're guilty either.)
To me, this is a case of "fighting cleverly", not backing away from a fight. Lol. Fools run in first, and they're the first to fall.
@Razer People always say that about these supposedly major hardware defects. I still usually end up sitting there a decade later without the issue. Not saying that it won't happen, buuut usually it doesn't.
@MoonKnight7 They're only being fixed for free in the US. It's pretty much just a common way of damage control, regardless of whether you're a guilty party or not. The fact that they're only doing it in the US... Tells you all you need to know.
@Razer People say it's a big issue, but eh, never stumbled upon this big issue. Between me and some friends/family there's like 12 launch pairs being used several hours daily with zero signs of drift, and I usually check out any pair I come across for it, with zero signs so far.
Again, terribly small sample size so pretty much irrelevant but still
@MartyFlan Still flabbergasted at how everybody else seemingly purely has drifting joy-con, while I've never been able to find any in existence.
I sometimes wonder whether Denmark somehow just got "the good batch" every time, or what it is. I even tested a bunch of used joy-con at a gamestop my friend works at for the fun of it - like 45 pairs - and nothing. Obviously small sample size, but man. For someone trying to hunt down drifting joy-con, they're bloody hard to find xD
Resounding no. It's inferior to my current Switch, so I've got no reason to buy one.
I'll probably get my friend one though, she doesn't play on big screens so handheld is her creed. She can't afford one herself so she's still playing 3DS. Might surprise her for her birthday with a lite + Pokémon Sword.
@Anti-Matter It'd cut into profits for most of the not-so-great games, and have a risk of doing so even for great games that aren't from the biggest third parties or Nintendo themselves.
I doubt that'll happen. Better to remain digital only and have no risk of losing money.
@Damo Oh no, that's not why you lack integrity. In your case, it's more the constant attacks on your readers in the comment section
As for PJ, eh, the reviews he's done speak for themselves really.
(Oh, and the very... obvious objective of this review? It's really just something you guys published to get that sweet ad money with zero care for integrity. The review was made to bring activity in the comments, because NL knows people are going to disagree with it.)
@sikthvash not if you go digital, that's for sure. Anyway, my issue with this is that it is a middle finger to supporters. We get nothing for already having the sub, people without it get discounts. Excellent.
@beazlen1 The issue is that my sub has already been renewed for another year. They're offering people who already supports them nothing. I don't wanna pay for ANOTHER year again right off the bat.
@_aitchFactor There's not really any decisive evidence though. Circumstantial, sure (and anybody can make that, given enough of a vendetta), but decisive? Hardly.
Also, uh, disclaimer, didn't waste 48 minutes of my life on the Carlos video, but... The description says he stands by his original work and final findings. AKA that it is legit.
The whole issue with this debacle is that there was never really any decisive proof of wrongdoing or decisive proof of no wrongdoing. It's literally just been a match of "who can provide the best circumstantial evidence because Billy didn't think that maybe he should take precautions against people accusing him of cheating back when he achieved the world record".
Personally I find it all to be laughable. The dude said he could do it, he did it, again, and that's all there is to it. Case solved.
Whether or not there was wrongdoing, he's the King of Kong. The witch hunters dared him to achieve the results he did back then, and he did it. Nothing more to it.
(Though actually they don't. Source: My Japanese friends. Yes, that's as subjective as it gets. No, it doesn't make it less right. Calling something the wrong thing because you're uneducated on the subject matter doesn't make it right.)
@sanderev
If you won't be educated, there's nothing I can do. You're wrong. Sorry.
Anime strictly refers to JAPANESE animation. It has absolutely nothing to do with the word "cartoon". Calling anime "cartoon" is objectively wrong.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a cartoon. Pokémon is an anime.
They're not just different words for the same thing, they refer to a specific type of medium. Anime and manga are ONLY Japanese.
The same mediums are called Manhwa and Aeni when made by Korean creators.
The same mediums are called Manhua and Zhōngguó dònghuà/Donghua when made by Chinese creators.
And finally, we have comics and cartoons by Western creators (there's more terms, it's not just one big umbrella, but I'll spare you the deetz).
They all specifically refer to animation and/or picture books made by certain types of creators and audiences (Typically anime is made for the Japanese, aeni for the Koreans, Donghua for the Chinese and Cartoons for a Western audience.)
Just sitting here wondering whose something something one would have to suck for the game to get a 10/10.
I mean honestly. The text itself is a written short essay of how one would rate a game 10/10, and then you get to the numbers and it says 9/10, and you're like "Wait... What the... What?"
I went and reread the review and then went and looked at the score again. I even refreshed the page to look at the score again.
I still don't understand.
The text describes it as a 10/10 game with no cons, and the rating is a 9/10.
Wish I had known this, I would have never updated the game then. Censorship is bad, it simply should not be necessary.
To make matters worse, Bernadetta is my favorite character, and this removes part of her charm. You'd think this was not important, but it is. It is a vital piece of information pertaining to who she is today.
@JDORS New games are literally coming all the freaking time mate. Did you even look at upcoming releases before writing this? Tons of new games have simultaneous releases on Switch and other platforms, and ports aren't a bad thing. Besides, most of the "ports" people tend to complain about are games that release a few months after their counterparts because they require extra dev time on Switch (like Samurai Shodown).
Because apparently that counts as a "port" too, and not just a delayed multiplatform game.
In short, there's literally nothing to complain about regarding new games (both original and ports) coming to the Switch. If it isn't on the Switch, it's new.
People tend to think that their own little bubble consisting of a switch, pc, ps4, xb1, wii, ps3, ps2, ps1, xb360 and Razer's trash tablet is the "meta" and that everybody owns every game ever released for the platforms.
They don't.
Most Switch users maybe have one other platform they use, or none. Most of the games, even ports, are gonna be new.
And even if the ports aren't, there's plenty of new games.
@BlueOcean I skipped it because it was a clear-cut dumpsterfire.
Played it at my friend's place every now and then, and the system wasn't good (in my opinion).
Always been an avid Nintendo fan, but I wasn't about to walk into that mess and willingly toss my money at Nintendo for a product that I believe to be hot garbage.
I played most of the exclusives on it with my friend, and again, it (the console, not the games) wasn't anything special. The gamepad being forced on you in a lot of games was also a major tragedy.
I honestly don't need any of the things mentioned. I do, however, need the one mandatory thing that is required for Switch to go from great to absolutely mindblowing: A messaging system.
@GetShulked Sigh. People like you are still going on about this?
They are not reusing animations. End of story.
Post all the videos you like. All they confirm is that Game Freak is good enough at their jobs to achieve near 1:1 animations to what they made before, which is excellent testimony regarding the quality of their work.
Most of the stuff they used in previous games was incompatible when they attempted to reuse it for the Switch games, so they had to remake it all from scratch.
The animations are all new, but because of how good they are at their jobs, they fooled you into thinking the animations were the same as the old ones.

Re: Switch Lite Teardown Suggests It Has The Same Drift-Prone Analogue Sticks As Standard Model
@MoonKnight7
Re: Switch Lite Teardown Suggests It Has The Same Drift-Prone Analogue Sticks As Standard Model
Re: Switch Lite Teardown Suggests It Has The Same Drift-Prone Analogue Sticks As Standard Model
@Razer People say it's a big issue, but eh, never stumbled upon this big issue. Between me and some friends/family there's like 12 launch pairs being used several hours daily with zero signs of drift, and I usually check out any pair I come across for it, with zero signs so far.
Again, terribly small sample size so pretty much irrelevant but still
Re: Switch Lite Teardown Suggests It Has The Same Drift-Prone Analogue Sticks As Standard Model
Strange stuff.
Re: Former Rare Staff Reveal Salamandos, A "Collectable Album" Celebrating Over 30 Years Of Game Dev
@davisnetbattler5  if you converted your switch lite into a gba, it's no longer a switch lite but ok.
Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Lite Is Out Today, Are You Getting One?
Resounding no. It's inferior to my current Switch, so I've got no reason to buy one.
I'll probably get my friend one though, she doesn't play on big screens so handheld is her creed. She can't afford one herself so she's still playing 3DS. Might surprise her for her birthday with a lite + Pokémon Sword.
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - A Magical Remastering Of A Series Highlight
Zelda game? Check.
NL 9/10 or 10/10 score? Check.
The usual.
BotW deserved the great score, but pretty much every other game has been subpar imo.
This one is fine so far, but the frame rate issues are very annoying and it's not suuuuper interesting. (EDIT: Personally I'd say 7/10 so far?)
Re: If You Want NieR: Automata Ported To Nintendo Switch "Please Ask Square Enix"
I'd love Nier Automata on Switch, but I'm curious as to whether it is feasible, even if people like Panic Button work on it.
The game itself wasn't super well optimized when I played it on pc though, so idk.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's 'Glitched' Pokémon Is Sirfetch’d, A Version-Exclusive
@FrowningCoach It'll be fun for the people who like the gameplay of Pokémon, and it'll be boring for the people who don't. Pretty simple.
As for Sirfetch'd, I freaking adore it. I love this design, honestly Definitely going on my team when I play through Pokémon Sword.
Re: Devs Make Big Bucks On The Switch eShop By Drastically Reducing Game Prices
@Anti-Matter It'd cut into profits for most of the not-so-great games, and have a risk of doing so even for great games that aren't from the biggest third parties or Nintendo themselves.
I doubt that'll happen. Better to remain digital only and have no risk of losing money.
Re: E3 Reportedly Set To Be Rebranded As A "Fan, Media And Influencer Festival" Next Year
Oh dear. Welp, suddenly I stopped looking forward to E3.
EDIT: In a general sense. Always looking forward to Nintendo's Direct.
Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game
Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game
@Damo It's not that you're doing something right. It's that we're intelligent enough not to blame the entire staff for the shortcomings of you and PJ
Anyway, this is just the standard shovelware review, nothing much to see here.
Game's probably a 6, but clicks > integrity. Ya gotta eat, I get it.
Re: New Nintendo Switch Online Bundles Offer Top Games At Discounted Prices (Europe)
@sikthvash not if you go digital, that's for sure. Anyway, my issue with this is that it is a middle finger to supporters. We get nothing for already having the sub, people without it get discounts. Excellent.
Re: New Nintendo Switch Online Bundles Offer Top Games At Discounted Prices (Europe)
@beazlen1 The issue is that my sub has already been renewed for another year. They're offering people who already supports them nothing. I don't wanna pay for ANOTHER year again right off the bat.
Re: Billy Mitchell Threatens To Take Legal Action Against High-Score Sanctioning Bodies
The whole issue with this debacle is that there was never really any
decisive proof of wrongdoing or decisive proof of no wrongdoing.
Re: New Nintendo Switch Online Bundles Offer Top Games At Discounted Prices (Europe)
So, what, I have to CANCEL my recurring yearly family sub to "save" money here? Nintendo, cmon.
Put it as a bundle for people without sub, discount it for people with sub. It's not that hard.
Stone age approach smh.
Re: Pokémon Loser Ash Ketchum's Lifelong Dream Has Finally Come True
@countzero Sure they would, and they'd be wrong.
(Though actually they don't. Source: My Japanese friends. Yes, that's as subjective as it gets. No, it doesn't make it less right. Calling something the wrong thing because you're uneducated on the subject matter doesn't make it right.)
@sanderev
If you won't be educated, there's nothing I can do. You're wrong. Sorry.
Re: Pokémon Loser Ash Ketchum's Lifelong Dream Has Finally Come True
@Kawaiipikachu That would be wrong.
Re: Review: Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition - A Pure Work Of Magic
Why?
Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Patch Revises Sensitive Dialogue
Wish I had known this, I would have never updated the game then. Censorship is bad, it simply should not be necessary.
To make matters worse, Bernadetta is my favorite character, and this removes part of her charm. You'd think this was not important, but it is. It is a vital piece of information pertaining to who she is today.
Re: Talking Point: Ring Fit Adventure Is A Thing, But Is It Your Sort Of Thing?
@pblive Even trolls gotta eat
Re: Talking Point: Ring Fit Adventure Is A Thing, But Is It Your Sort Of Thing?
Re: Looks Like One Lucky Fan Already Has A Nintendo Switch Lite
@BlueOcean I skipped it because it was a clear-cut dumpsterfire.
Played it at my friend's place every now and then, and the system wasn't good (in my opinion).
Always been an avid Nintendo fan, but I wasn't about to walk into that mess and willingly toss my money at Nintendo for a product that I believe to be hot garbage.
I played most of the exclusives on it with my friend, and again, it (the console, not the games) wasn't anything special. The gamepad being forced on you in a lot of games was also a major tragedy.
Re: Looks Like One Lucky Fan Already Has A Nintendo Switch Lite
@BlueOcean Every man (or woman) for him/herself.
I'd dump it like the hot garbage I think it is. But that's me.
Re: Looks Like One Lucky Fan Already Has A Nintendo Switch Lite
@BlueOcean That would depend on your preferences?
First, though, I'd sell my Wii U and put it towards a Switch (though I doubt anybody would've bought it lol).
If I wasn't a launch user, I'd probably have gone with a grey switch with red/blue joycon and Fire Emblem Three Houses.
Re: GameStop Set To Close 180 - 200 "Underperforming" Stores This Fiscal Year
Close as many as you can Gamestop. After you're done, lower the prices to what they should be, then close some more.
Sucks for the people working there, but I have no sympathy left for this company.
Re: Purchase Bayonetta From The Wii U eShop In Japan And Europe While You Still Can
Why would anybody buy them on Wii U when they can get them on Switch... Lol.
Re: Talking Point: Please Nintendo, Can We Get These Things In Switch Firmware Version 10?
I honestly don't need any of the things mentioned. I do, however, need the one mandatory thing that is required for Switch to go from great to absolutely mindblowing: A messaging system.
Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Might Have An Autosave Function, A Series First
@GetShulked Sigh.
That's quality work.
Next.
