Blizzia

@BulbasaurusRex Except they levelled complaints at the fanservice instead of the game mechanics.

When a review says "man it sucks having boobs shoved in your face every 3 seconds, and by the way, the gameplay sucked because it was shallow" you're left thinking... But why is it shallow? What makes it shallow? The review says "the game leaves you wanting to play a game with proper controls because they're janky" - why are they janky?

Most of these reviews spend so much time complaining about a genre staple (FANSERVICE) instead of telling people WHAT is wrong.

The fanservice isn't wrong, it's RIGHT. It's the STAPLE of those games.

If they could toss away those nonsensical remarks and focus on reviewing THE GAME, that'd be great.

Also, all of the games did not, in fact, suck.

Two especially bad reviews would be the Peach Ball one, and the Gal Gun 2 one. Yikes.

One literally gets 4 with a "If you find anime ladies with animal features highly appealing, you can probably add a couple of points to the score below" - when is that ever a point of contention for a score? Hello?

The other one fails to mention any of the several modes, endings and so on (I dug up Ralizah's old comment on it):

"I'll just repost my PS comment:

"Bah.

Probably my most anticipated game of 2018. Double Peace was a blast, and I expect Gal Gun 2 to be the same. I'm excited for the longer campaign, more open structure, multiple endings, score chasing, etc."

Also, why no mention of the multiple endings, different modes, etc.? It's almost like you guys played as little of this as possible to complete your review. "

@BulbasaurusRex The hearts on my comments suggest otherwise. Also, the game you referenced was before NL went on a downward spiral. It's also done by Morgan Sleeper, one of their all-time best reviewers. Idk if you've noticed, but he's done zero reviews for NL since June 2018. Pretty sure he doesn't work there anymore, or has taken a backseat.

Re: Video: Comparing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Clone Genshin Impact To The Original

Blizzia

Similar aesthetics, which is only a really REALLY positive thing (BotW is gorgeous, and so is Genshin Impact).

The combat is NOTHING alike, the movement system is NOTHING alike.

It's not a clone.

They just happen to use the same art style for environments. And they're honest about their inspiration, which is a massive credit to BotW and to themselves as well (if you can spot quality and let it inspire you, chances are you're heading in a good direction).

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

Blizzia

For a pro version, I'd just like more of what we've already gotten mainly: More battery life.

Beyond that? Slightly more powerful cpu, and maybe 2GB more RAM? I'd really love for it to have 8GB RAM, but I doubt Nintendo are gonna shove it above 6.

All that stuff with 4k and less bezel/magnesium alloy body... No thanks. Not necessary and it really doesn't matter much.

All I want is to be able to play most games at a stable 30 fps, and the cpu improvement would deal with most of the games that sorta struggle.

Re: Alienware's Impressive Switch-Like Concept UFO Wins Best-In-Show Award

Blizzia

I didn't find the Switch expensive, but I do find a Playstation 4 Pro expensive.

If this thing is more expensive than a Playstation 4 Pro, I'll think it is expensive. It also looks really... Awful.

Like really. The design SUCKS. It's also very... edgy? Which seems really stupid. It doesn't look comfortable to hold at all.

Oh well. Nothing lost for me. Got my laptop and my Switch. I'm fully portable.

Re: Prison Princess Breaks Out Later This Month, Here's A Trailer

Blizzia

@Rhaoulos Exactly. It's really not that hard to find such a person. It would be so nice to find someone who isn't literally going into the review having already judged the game to be bad simply because that person hates these kinds of games.

Unfortunately, it happens with nearly if not all of these types of games when it comes to NL. They simply cannot review them without spitting seething hatred at it. Sometimes it is subtle, sometimes it isn't.

It might be a good game. It might be a bad game. Can we get THAT bit of information WITHOUT 50 judgmental remarks and a cheesy "bet your mom will be proud of you if you buy this game" at the end? It just makes it unprofessional and childish.

We come here to know if the games are enjoyable and what they offer to people who might be interested in them. Not to know whether the reviewer likes titillating fanservice games or not. That part doesn't matter at all.

Re: Prison Princess Breaks Out Later This Month, Here's A Trailer

Blizzia

Uh-oh there's the word "titillating" in the trailer. NL has already red flagged this one in the 0-6/10 bracket for the future review.

Be amazed by an innovative review where the focus is on preaching about the negatives of fanservice and xxx, and how puritans should wash their filthy hands if they so much as look at the game.

I'll be waiting.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Gets A Fourth House In The Next Wave Of DLC

Blizzia

@KingBowser86 What are you even talking about man. If this content "should have been" in the "base game" which is MEATY AS HELL and contains 200+ hours of gameplay already, we'd not have seen FE 3H for yet another 6 months. The game was already in the works for ages and it's an extremely lovely experience.

There is no way in hell anybody I know or can think of (including the entire Fire Emblem community on Serenes Forest or the FE subreddit, OR the FE discord) would say "you know what, I wish FE 3H had not been out until End of January 2020 instead, including this side story. It'd have made it a much better experience."

Because the base game is THAT good. THAT meaty. And before going into the 4th house you'd likely need to beat the other 3+1 routes in the game (which takes on average 200+ hours, much more if you go crazy with micromanagement and seeing all dialogue, upgrading units as much as possible or seeking out special items).

I'm not saying this as some mindless fanboy/fangirl. It's just how it is. This is content developed after release, and you know what, it's a good thing. This kind of DLC is worthy of the price tag for the expansion pass. What the actual DLC holds, we'll see.

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Blizzia

Fire Emblem character added? Hell yes!

The most boring possible option? Why... Why not Bernadetta, Edelgard, Leonie, Claude, Hilda, Ignatz, Lysithea, Hubert, Dorothea, Linhardt, Petra, Dimitri, Annette, Ashe, Felix, Cassandra... OR ANY OF THE OTHER LEGIT DOZENS OF INTERESTING FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTERS? SOTHIS? ANYBODY ELSE.

JUST. NOT. BYLETH. NOT THE PROTAGONIST.

Sigh.

Re: Remember That Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Clone That Killed A PS4? It's Coming To Switch

Blizzia

Definitely interested in the game - besides, it's nothing like BotW in terms of gameplay itself. More focus on combat, so I'd probably treat it less like my own creative playground (basically botw in a nutshell) and more like a grand adventure where I assemble a party of waifus (yes, yes, cringe, but I'm doing it) and go camping and slicing up lizards.

Also, as a side note, I adored BotW's graphics, so... This is just more of a good thing... Which is not bad.

Re: Talking Point: Why Pokémon Sword & Shield's Expansion Pass Changes The Rules For The Series

Blizzia

@Kaori-chan regardless of when they started, the release of the content would have been post-release, since obviously they wouldn't be able to get something that'll be ready in 6-10 months... ready in time for the release date that the money hungry part of the company (not the ones pouring their hearts into the games) demands.

But eh, we'll see how it goes, and if they don't get your money, I'm sure they'll live :3 I hope it'll be great, and since I'll play it to see it for myself anyway, I've already bought the expansion pass.

Re: Talking Point: Why Pokémon Sword & Shield's Expansion Pass Changes The Rules For The Series

Blizzia

@Kaori-chan Not really an objection or anything, just an observation: Them saying they've been "thinking about it for a while" usually doesn't mean "we've been thinking of cutting content then deviously planning to sell it to you later, muahahaha"...

But "We were thinking of what to do next for Pokémon, while tossing around ideas and working on art and random tidbits for the next Pokémon project, we decided to make it DLC instead of a new game. We've been THINKING about what to do for a while (since release of SW/SH), and we decided that DLC would be the best approach."

Maybe I'm just not blinded by seething hatred for Game Freak (not saying you are), but that's the conclusion both I and my (completely non-gamer and not interested in Pokémon at all) Fiancée reached.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains "Embarrassing" Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Blizzia

@JohnnyC You do know that people ARE getting paid a fortune to build and play with Lego, right?

The guy next to me in my shared office space literally has a fiancé who does that xD Hired by Lego to, yup, build and play with it (and of course come with creative input).

Not that that kinda job just hangs around for anybody to grab (I just wanted to point out it's actually an existing job, and somebody has your dream job, so go for it).

Also, professional tournament competitor is an existing job - it's done by tons of people. Every eSports game not made by Nintendo has sizable prize pools designed to keep the community healthy and reward hard workers with talent, because that keeps their franchise alive.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains "Embarrassing" Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Blizzia

@Gamesurfer idk about bitterness, not feeling any of that

And nah, it doesn't. Sure, you might go work a supermarket job for a year or two, but you're still going gungho for what you studied for. That's pretty much how it goes. Haven't met anybody who said "you know what? There's not enough demand so I'll just do nothing, or do something completely unrelated forever" unless it's a profession that has literally been 100% obsolete for years.

Not sure what the taxes bit is all about, but cheers. People do pay taxes here big time, and we get a ton of neat benefits because of it (like free health care).

Re: Nintendo's President Explains "Embarrassing" Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Blizzia

@JohnnyC That logic is why my country is currently killing all its ill people because nobody wants to pay nurses and doctors well, so nurses and doctors disappear. They don't go somewhere else, they just disappear.

So do patients (they die).

It's not about being out of touch with reality. Keeping the competitive scene alive is incredibly easy for Nintendo - they just need a proper prize pool at official Nintendo stuff.

It's like telling an engineer that because there's nothing going on right now, this engineer needs to become a photographer instead.

No. That's not how it works.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains Embarrassing Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Blizzia

@JohnnyC Your comment is funny, but nobody is saying Nintendo shouldn't focus on making games fun.

Unfortunately, when creating games that are naturally competitive, people want to, you guessed it, compete. There's always a sort of "elite" pool of people when it comes to anything in the world.

Some people enjoy watching those people.

Those people cannot be elite without making a living, because otherwise they don't have the time to be elite.

They need to make money to live in order to continue to be elite, and provide both the company (Nintendo) and the viewers (Nintendo fans/franchise fans) with the entertainment that there is clearly a demand for.

I'm not saying they need to win millions like in LoL tournaments and all that shit.

But honestly, somebody competes for a YEAR to become THE single best player that year in the entire world, and they're rewarded with payment of travel expenses... And maybe food.

Wow. That's.... Wow.

That's Nintendo's take on fair rewards for tournaments. Yay.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains Embarrassing Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Blizzia

@AcridSkull He doesn't think he's owed something for playing a video game. He thinks that tournaments for this game, like for ALL other games not part of Nintendo's "world view", should reward competitors properly for their dedication.

You say he's a man-baby thinking he's owed something for playing a video game. So you're also saying that anybody playing ANYTHING competitively, be that olympics, any sport, literally any kind of tournament or competition for any reason... Is a man-baby if they so much as insinuate that winners of said tournaments/competitions should be rewarded for their dedication, hard work and provision of entertainment for thousands/millions of viewers...

Re: Brain Training Switch Launch Sales In The UK "15 Times Larger" Than 3DS Predecessor

Blizzia

@KoopaTheGamer i mean, it's the same with one stroke. You just slow the stroke slightly if you have trouble. But you still do it in a single stroke.

5 and S are clearly distinct in a single stroke as well, since the stroke is always slowed at the middle part when you switch from straight lines to drawing the half-circle (or vice versa).

Just baffling why anybody would do it in two strokes.

Re: Hey Nintendo, Can The Next Switch Update Look Something Like This Please?

Blizzia

I see no reason to waste time on making a screen you're supposed to see as little as physically possible... Customizable. Especially not with the Switch.

On something like Playstation, sure - lots of downtime if you don't just game on it, because the menus are super clunky and you can watch movies and stuff on it too.

But on Switch? Idk, I kinda feel like people who want this want it for no actual good reason. They just want the ability to waste dev time on making a ui they're supposed to spend maybe 10 seconds on when they boot up their Switch... Look like a piece of art they'd stare at for hours.

Re: One Of Pokémon's Largest Fan Communities Bans Dynamaxing In Competitive Matches

Blizzia

@Araquanid

Do you even know what fearmongering is mate xD And as I said, I've been there done that regarding showdown. You just need a specific rating to vote, and you don't need ANY knowledge regarding the subject. Banning every dynamax is stupid, and so is banning gigantamax because it is roughly the same as mega-evo, just for only 3 turns, and with more bulk.

I won't comment on metaknights ban since I don't follow SSB stuff.

You also can't get 1v6'd by anything that can dynamax without making colossal mistakes that pave the road for your loss already, so that point is moot. You also have your own dynamax.

It's also not about HAVING to play by smogon rules or not, so much as it is about their rules promoting stale and stagnant gameplay from the outset.

Couldn't care less about geomancy Xerneas since its ubers. Could just ban dynamaxing geomancy Xerneas, problem solved.

My issue isn't that they're banning SOME dynamaxes and SOME gigantamaxes in SOME tiers.

My issue is that it's a blanket ban because they can't be bothered to actually create a healthy meta around the mechanic.

There are plenty of dynamaxes that won't destroy the meta, and gigantamaxes are in my opinion completely fine due to the fact they you'll know roughly which mons can threaten with it, and the opponent will as well.

Re: One Of Pokémon's Largest Fan Communities Bans Dynamaxing In Competitive Matches

Blizzia

@-Juice- They have a million metas my friend. They don't use all the Pokémons in any specific meta.

Smogons bans are often a bit nonsensical or based on fearmongering rather than actually reviewing strategy. It's based on people with certain ratings using their own biases to vote. I used to be able to vote and have my vote count for more than other people's just because I used a lame fotm team to hit the top percentages. Does that mean I knew jack about the mons I was voting on? Not necessarily.

One thing I do wonder is whether they ONLY banned dynamaxing, or also gigantamaxing.

Gigantamaxing would be kinda like mega evolution in a sense and has no element of "randomness" as they say, to it. Only specific mons can Gigantamax, so they'd be the most likely ones to do so.

Being part of the competitive community, I'm not about to jump on a hate train. I'm also not about to defend Smogons nonsensical decisions.
