Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Targeting A 2024 Release For The Switch Successor

@BlublacMH Nintendo will allow you access to your games but I suspect at a cost with a new tier of subscription. Whether cartridges will be backward comparability……. That I am far from convinced about and it could be an issue that will put many off from the new console. Hopefully, Nintendo have leaned lessons from the past, but don’t bet on it.

@thesilverbrick The Wii succeeded because it was different. Most gamers had a Wii as a secondary console. Wii was badly marketed but also wanted to compete directly and that was a huge gaff and one I doubt Nintendo will make again. Any new console will again be one that appeals as a secondary console rather than going head to head with Xbox and PlayStation

@ZonaiResearcher Nintendo don’t need to worry about a PS5 Pro at all. People will buy a Nintendo console for its 1st party exclusives. PS5 will win this gen anyway. It’s already got a head of steam up and it’s hasn’t really got much to offer games wise yet. People buy PlayStation now just for the name. That’s why they are fairly relaxed - they could literally release one game a year and I’m sure people would still buy a PlayStation!
Xbox are focused on cloud now and after this ‘gen’ if you can even call it a ‘generation’ I think we will see one more console from Microsoft and that will be that. Streaming sticks, apps and cloud gaming with Game Pass and subs as it’s core model.
Nintendo just need a Switch 2, a few upgrades here and there and backward compatibility. They really don’t need to worry about Xbox or PlayStation. As long as they don’t try and change the wheel, they will have another huge success, or rather, as I see it, a continued success for many years to come.

@electrolite77 Steam Deck is not aiming at Nintendos audience. Sure it is handheld but it’s after a more hardcore gamer.
I don’t think the next console will be that far removed from the Switch. This is their DS/3DS moment again. They don’t need to change much at all. A bit more oomph and backward compatibility and it will sell hotcakes.
I can’t see them attempting to re make the wheel.

@Scollurio Really good points. Next gen doesn’t really exist anymore if we are being honest. The days of 8bit to 16bit etc are long gone. What we get now are upgrades every so many years. Often many of the same games remastered. We live in a remastered generation of gaming with some undoubted gems as well.
I totally agree about power. A good game doesn’t always need power. It needs innovation and that is where Nintendo excel.

Re: Microsoft Given All-Clear In The US To Acquire Activision Blizzard

Finally or at least nearly finally. Interesting that Sony haven’t signed the 10 year deal with Xbox over COD so I wonder if Ryan has shot his elf in the foot there? Other than COD coming to Nintendo , I don’t see any big changes anyway. It just means more more people will get to play COD on more systems.
Now can the CMA just get it approved and then we can all move and get back to gaming with nothing much changing. The whole hype and narrative has been so PR driven by lies and counter lies - the idea Sony PS would die without COD is up there with lies of the year and on a world where Trump and Boris Johnson lives, that is some going! Game over. Game on.
Let’s get back to gaming and enjoy it whatever system we have and enjoy gaming being strong on all platforms.

Re: Switch Player Magazine Is Ending Its Six-Year Run With One Last Issue

BaldB3lper78

Such a shame and am proud to have played at least a small part in its being for a short while.
I am sure what comes next will be even bigger and better. They are a great team and will succeed again.
Print media is so hard to achieve these days - sadly websites have killed print media but there are some great mags out there and I will always support them over a website every single time!

Re: Shuntaro Furukawa: Switch Successor Will Utilise The 'Nintendo Account' System

BaldB3lper78

This is potentially good news of course but the key for the next console has to be backward compatibility. If it’s not, then tens of millions are going to be shafted and Nintendo doesn’t have the best record when it comes to looking after its loyal fanbase.
In regard to the next console itself, after the recent Direct, I can’t now see the next gen console arriving until holiday 2026 and by then, the Sony and Xbox next gen efforts will be only 2 years away.

Re: The FTC Doesn't Seem To Think Switch Is A Serious PlayStation & Xbox Competitor

BaldB3lper78

@rockodoodle The deal won’t affect much if it happens and if it doesn’t then it will affect Xbox badly but Xbox are already way behind and only because of their huge money behind them and cloud are they still involved.

PS have become complacent and could make a PS5 tomorrow with no games and people would still buy it because people buy the name not the console with PS these days.

Nintendo focuses on games and gaming and that’s why the Switch is so successful.

In terms of hardware sales , Xbox has been dead on the water for years.

Re: The FTC Doesn't Seem To Think Switch Is A Serious PlayStation & Xbox Competitor

BaldB3lper78

Well, for a start the CMA argument was and remains total nonsense. As for the FTC, they will rule against MS 100% As Will New Zealand. This deal isn’t happening folks. Get used to it.

As for Nintendo - when it comes to consoles and hardware, of course they are in the same market. It’s called the games market ffs!! The FTC are thicker than 2 slices of bread. Nintendo is doing its own thing though and until they come out with a home only console - which if they do I would be surprised and it would be another Wii U mess as the handheld business is there’s to dominate for decades if they stick with the Switch concept - they will always be out on their own and happy to leave Sony and MS to carry on this stupid and embarrassing fiasco which really is just a joke now.

The deal won’t affect anyone or anything if it happens. COD will still appear on PS and Sony can survive without COD anyway / then idea that they can’t was just another of Ryan’s blatant lies.

MS are as bad and Spencer would be sacked in most other jobs - he has presided over decades of failure in terms of console sales and that’s never going to change.

Both Ryan and Spencer should do gaming a favour and both just jog on a mile or two. They are focused on ego whilst Nintendo just keep on delivering the games that gamers want!!!!

Re: Poll: Will There Be A June 2023 Nintendo Direct?

BaldB3lper78

Nah. Nintendo will be running down the Switch in terms of games now and I have a horrible feeling that the next console will not be backward compatible.
Whilst the Switch is still doing very well, I feel the big N need to be careful to not leave it too long for the next system and not to go away from the Switch model. If they do, I think we will see Wii U style failure again.
I’m hoping for a new console announcement by October this year for release next March. Otherwise by holiday 2024, Nintendo will be start to fall behind.

This time they need to ride on the wave of the Switch success.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 27th)

BaldB3lper78

Finally am nearly out of the sky and heading to Hyrule. Have spent my 1st week doing the shrines and just exploring this magical place! Am loving the mechanics and also making up my own ways to cross rivers as well as the ones expected. Great game with so much allowance to succeed through trial and error!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 1st)

BaldB3lper78

Now that my N64 Switch online controller has arrived, I am back to Goldeneye 007 and loving playing it the proper way!
And it’s so good. Okay so the graphics are naff by todays standards but it’s super slick on Switch and with the music as well it’s an absolute joy to play. An absolute joy!!
If I get a bit of additional time then I will keep ploughing on with another beauty and Metroid Prime Remastered.

Enjoy the weekend folks and keep gaming!!

Re: Feature: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gameplay Trailer - Every New Detail Revealed

BaldB3lper78

Cannot wait. The beauty of the Zelda series is that it can and has taken many different directions. What is even better is that it can still go back to older versions too. This doesn’t have to be the only direction. Across the entire series, there is something for every Zelda fan. I think it looks every bit as good as BOTW.
But the beauty of gaming is we all have different opinions. For example, to me, Pokemon is dreadful.
