Re: Review: South Of Midnight (Switch 2) - A Port That Compromises What This Enjoyable Game Did Best

BaldB3lper78

Let’s face it, 3rd part games are not going to sell well on Nintendo Switch 2. Its core user base is Japan and it’s mainly first party games that get bought. You only have to look at the charts each week and 3rd party games make up such a small amount of sales on Switch 2.

I am looking forward to Indy but I can’t help feeling it’s going to be an awful port sadly. I would be surprised if 3rd party support totally dies off on the next year.

Come 2028, Switch 2 is going to be so vastly underpowered that porting games will make even less sense than it does now.

Yeah , fair review. I’m actually enjoying it as it’s easy to jump into battles and is great for a quick sessions. But the performance on Switch 2 is inexcusable - something of a phrase that seems to be coming a worrying trend for the system and hopefully it will be patched.

But it’s fun, plenty of players and it’s competitive. But it feels like ANOTHER lazy Nintendo cash grab which is worryingly defining the Switch 2 in its first year sadly.

Of course this isn’t at all surprising in any way at all, Japan is #Nintendo and vice versa but considering the worldwide economic climate, these are still phenomenal numbers and #Nintendo look on course to hit the forecasted 20 million worldwide sales in year one.

Once they do start bringing new new games in the coming years , then there is no reason why #Switch2 can’t have decent lifetime sales.

My concerns on whether they can do it are -

: If we don’t start more new games soon, sales will drop off.
: Western sales need to step up and that again comes down to software
: A price hike for the hardware will have a negative effect outside of Japan
: 3rd party games continue to struggle and if they stop being produced that will reduce the appeal

Ultimately, #NintendoSwitch2 is performing well but it needs to work out how it’s going to sustain and maintain that in the next 12 to 18 months.

But with a year not gone, it’s doing way better than the ‘experts’ and you tube influencers (don’t make me laugh), predicted!

Re: 007 First Light Shaken By Delay On Switch 2, Now Releasing After Other Consoles

BaldB3lper78

I’m kind of torn 2 ways with this news. Firstly, I don’t want games being released if they are not ready. I hate the ways devs do that and rely on patches all the time after release. So, in one sense I am relieved that they are taking time to get it right.

And then the other side is a little concerned as this seems to be happening more often with Switch 2. Switch 2 can run games as well as Xbox Rog Ally and Xbox Series S as long as devs optimise accordingly and put the effort in.

So my concerned side is asking why is this happening? Is it because of when they are getting Switch 2 dev kits?

I can see this leading to poor 3rd party sales on Switch 2 - let’s face it, 3rd party games have never been the biggest hits on Nintendo hardware - and ultimately 3rd parties not bothering to release games on the system at all.

Switch 2 has so much to offer but it feels like, right now , it’s being left to stagnate somewhat.

I love the system but it’s capable of so much more than people give it credit for, this site being as bad as anyone for questioning its ability to hold top games.

@dartmonkey “Game-wise, we already know this is a winner - we're just not sure how Nintendo's hardware will handle the buckle and swash of MachineGames' adventure.”

It’s not about the hardware. It’s more than capable with some minor concessions. I get quite irritated by the constant message that the hardware isn’t good enough. It is. It’s about devs optimising correctly. Switch 2 can do more than many give it credit for.

If Nintendo are not careful, sales of Switch 2 won’t so much stall , they will fall off a cliff. They are walking a very dangerous tightrope right now. They could easily hit the 20 million units in year one, but could also carry on with this type of release and not hit 50 million for a number of years after.

It’s time to get on with delivering for Switch 2 on its own now Nintendo. Otherwise it will go from fastest selling out of the blocks, to an absolute failure. That’s how fine the lines are right now.

Re: Nintendo's Apparently Cutting US Switch 2 Output After Lower Than Expected Holiday Sales

BaldB3lper78

The Switch 2 was always going to have a tough ask when it first released and Nintendo have never played it so safe. I totally understand why they did so, they didn’t want to risk the massive Switch 1 user base.

Sales worldwide are still very good all things considered but it needs to now be positioned as more than just an update. And it is more than an update.

It holds its own playing games at a level that many handheld PC gamers would enjoy and without all that faffing around with settings. Star Wars Outlaws, CP2077, Fast Fusion are examples that show the console is more powerful and more capable than many think.

But that isn’t yet being fully utilised by many devs - maybe because of the delays to them getting dev kits. Capcom are one dev though who are already pushing the console and seeing great benefits.

The USA is also seeing financial struggles as the orange man baby continues to decimate the economy.

It’s easy to see these kind of reports and start panicking straight away and saying it’s the end for Nintendo. But it’s not as bad as some would like to make it.

We are not at a year into the consoles life yet and it will become more prominent as Switch 1 is slowly put out to pasture over the coming year.

Games sell hardware - new games are needed. That’s the bigger issue right now but I have no doubt the games will come, and the sales grow again.

@BLK_4EVER I don’t really see the price as being too high. When you consider that you can play games akin to handheld PC’s that cost twice as much a without any faffing with settings, the price is more than reasonable. It’s the lack of truly new software that is coming out that is causing the issue. But that will change over time. It’s easy to forget the system isn’t even a year old.
