I think the man is spot-on. Thats is not to say that third party games cannot be succesful. They just need to be the right games. I think the Dark Souls game could be great...
Splatoon is a refreshing take on the shooter genre. Will definitely buy it. On the other hand I would wish for more games this year. MK8 and Splatoon dont really cut it for me. Its more or less the same experience that can be had on wii u.
Deleted all my accounts - the game was getting annoying. Playing for free was bad - paying for it (I imagine) even worse. Either way it was really a waste of time. It was quite fun, though.
A frustrating orb system, a random chance of getting a good hero, a poor stamina system, very little to do actually.
With time I realized that I got sort of 'addicted' to it. The daily log-ins were becoming part of my life and I realized that the more time I invested into it, levelling up characters etc. the more attached I became. I had the feeling that this game wasnt really worth it, yet I did continue and got more and more involved.
I think games like these are based on your input/investment; be it time or/and money. The more you have put in, the more special units etc. you have acquired the harder it will become to put it down. Its probably like gambling where you have lost your money and want to win it back. Only that there isnt really anything to win here.
But thats just my opinion. I am quite happy to have pulled the plug and returned to playing some real games.
Not surprising - Botw is on the best games of all time to me. It may not be the most technologically advanced game, but who needs the best graphics? This game is pure fun!!! Masterpiece IMHO. Other than that the line up is pretty weak imho.
@impurekind Actually this was not nintendos offer. It was a general offer and the switch just happened to be an option. I thought for the price of 20 Eur a month, for 20 months, together with zelda I couldnt really go wrong. Just btw, I am very happy with zelda. At first I was a little worried about the empty open world. But this is actually for the better. It makes finding something so much more rewarding. I remember playing oblivion where you could pick up herbs and stuff almost everywhere. In botw I am happy when I can pick something up... great game so far. I even consider getting that season pass during winter and enjoy that alternative story.
@impurekind I totally understand your opinion. No matter how much people justify the pricing and what we get, the switch is an expensive piece of hardware with lots of additional costs attached. Personally I had decided to wait with the purchase a very long time until the prices drop etc.. However, I got an offer for to pay installment at a zero percent interest rate. So I thought paying twenty EUR each month and being able to play the new Zelda right now would be kinda cool. Yesterday I got the system and have been happy with the purchase. Maybe you can get a similar offer where you live.
Nintendo is definitely no longer what they used to be, thats for sure. They seem to have lost their path. Maybe they have realized they dont need to be better than the competition or something when it comes to reliability. Think about x360 rod , still sold very well... its actually an overall trend. If things break easily new stuff will be sold. If things last forever, well....
@Jeronan I thought you were joking - then I saw it for myself! - they even say to turn of mobile phones! Funny, cause if they are planning to include mobiles in their silly voice chat plan...
I think issues like this shouldnt happen. Wonder what nintendo will do about it... This and the screen scratching dock were the reasons why I eventually postponed my purchase of the switch (had a very good offer on monday with zero interest installments!!!)
in regard to switch storage option I dont really see a reason for optional downloads at all. Of course I am a fan of physical but given the microsd prices the reason for digital just faded away entirely
I am still playing, in short bursts though, as much as stamina allows . And I probably will keep the game, its my only mobile game and I quite like it for what it is. Will see how it developes and how many heroes I will be able to collect. I only play with 4 and 5 star heroes, dont care about wasting time and stamina to level up any 3 star heroes.
I never played a mobile game before. I was curious about fire emblem as I like the series very much. Its just my opinion that the value is ridiculous. BTW, I dont own a mobile phone myself, I am using the phone which my company has given me . So making any purchases is totally out of the question - I could probably circumvent this by using a credit card - I dont know, never done this before AND NEVER WILL. I generally spend a lot on games, mostly nintendo games, so I think they are getting enough of my money.
I dont complain - cause its free - I didnt pay for it, I dont need to play for it, I dont need to be disappointment and I AM NOT.
I was just saying, that its not really worth the money to invest into this game - thats it.
I made a comparison between what I paid for the FE FATES SPECIAL EDITION (its quite meaty) and what I might get in return for the same money invested in FE Heroes. Based on that I dont think its really good value to invest in it.
Besides I must say that I like this game more and more . You just have to be aware of what it is and dont expect too much and take it slowly.
When you think about it, its actually not worth its money. You could easily spend a hundred dollars and get too much out of it. THink about how many summoning batches you can get for 100 dollars? lets say its 10, that means 50 warriors! Out of 6 batches I got three 3 star heroes, eight 4 star heroes, the rest was naturally 3 star. its a gamble. I got FE Fates special edition for less than that.
So how can this game be worth any money?
Summoning batches should come with a guarantee, 50% chance to get a 5 star hero, 100% to get at least one 4 star hero, and no multiples of the same hero.
Of course, it depends on how you look at it, some people like to gamble and its probably not about what they have won or lost but the thrill of gambling. I was never into gambling.
Sorry, but this game is just a nice little game which you can pay for free and be lucky with what you get for free.
Actually its quite good IMHO FOR WHAT IT IS! While I was playing a lot in the beginning I am taking it lightly now. What I can get out of the game for free I might get out and if not its not a big problem. What I have realized is that its perfect while away. I never carry my 3ds around, so its a perfect game for little bursts now and then, while having a break at work or waiting in line at a shop or something.
Lost interest in it today in the morning. Then I got a five star roy and been levelling him up to level 15 so far. Think I am getting the hang of it. Been even playing while waiting in line at a supermarket.
Hopefully they will add some matchmaking in the future
It depends how you look at it. From my point of view its great! I am planning to get it later on (hopefully after some price drops). Probably for christmas with mario and zelda. However, I do have a huge backlog of games (ds,3ds,wii,wii u, vc games), so I will have games to play until who knows when. So I view the switch as an addition to my collection and look forward to the upcoming games. On the other hand if I didnt have any consoles and games at home, traded it all in or something, I might feel disappointed.
Nintendo would be foolish to abandon the 3ds right away. The switch hasnt been released yet and nintendo needs a source of income. Should the switch become a success they will sooner or later drop the 3ds. It will also depend on sales.
There is two sides of a coin. You may explain it away this way while others may see it differently. I tend to view it as whole.
Day one consoles usually dont come with pack in games, so I dont mind if nintendo follows suit with the competition.
I am planning to buy the switch, the pro controller and a micro sd card and thats it. So I shouldnt even care.
I dont need some older games for free that are meant to keep me hooked to an online subscription. So I am actually quite ok with free rental snes or nes games.
I usually play online during the cold months, and even then its not quite often. So I might just byy a monthly subscription when I get hooked to an online multiplayer.
And basically paying for online is indeed optional and didnt really bother me too much.
I dont need voice chat! But if actually needed it I wouldnt be able to get a connection from where I like to sit and play in my room
I will use the switch mostly for tv gaming, so its battery life shouldnt be much of a problem
Since I will use the pro controller, I wont need the charging grip!
I just play one tv - the high price if the docking station wont affect me.
I tend to play alone, so no additional controllers or joy cons will be needed. But if need be I will the joy cons and the pro. Thats two for sure.
I dont care about any apps like netflix or what have you. I buy a console for gaming. Would never watch a bluray or dvd on a console. Guess that would shorten the life expectation of the disc drive.
The higher price tag (in comparison with wii u) of the games hurts a little but I just tend to buy first party games. Some third party games! Only if they are amazing, like dqXI. So it probably wont change my buying habits when it comes to the amount of games.
Like I said I couldnt care less about third party games. I hate companies like ea, ubi or activision. No matter how many games they bring out for the switch, I wont buy a single one of them.
People say the launch line up is weak. They must be kidding! Zelda for starters. Mk8 and splatoon coming soon. Mario fir christmas. A new xenoblade! A new fire emblem for home consoles! Fe warriors, well, should be still a good game. Pikmin world sooner or later. Game cube vc will come - I am sure about that! And thats just the beginning! This should be some amazing years with nintendo! I mean how many games do people play? - get a life if thats not enough! My backlog is so huge - I am not sure I will EVER get down to playing it all.
I only buy digital games if theres no ohysical copy. So a 32gn micro sd card should be cheap and sufficient for quite some time, I hope.
Btw, game cards seem to be more durable than discs. A welcome change in the home console department to me.
See? You see? The switch is almost perfect for me! In fact the only option!
But dont you think these arguments sounded a little bit selfish? As if I cared only about me. I am not following trends or any kinds of mainstreams. But there other people around who dont necessarily view things the same way I do. Most people surely wouldnt understand my enthusiasm for the new mario odyssey, they would tell me to grow up and buy a real console ☺
So its not only about me or us nintendo fans and fanboys. Its about the mass market. Only if the console is successful, ninteno will bring us more games, keep the system alive and not pull another wii u. Like the good old 3ds who came before and outlasted the wii u but thats only because it sold way more units.
Right now it seems to me nintendo isnt really serious about it - they are more serious about the money they can earn in the short run. Of course I could be wrong.
@CheezIt
Hmmm, I dont really know if I nailed it☺
Well, basically I am not a fan of nintendo consoles. I dont care about gimmicks, they cost a lot and dont really enhance the gaming experience, sometimes even spoil it and have people complain. Due to a costly gimmick like the wii u gamepad we had a comparably expensive console that was way underpowered for its time, like years underpowered.
I am more of a console gamer that likes to play on a proper controller.
The only selling point for me are nintendos first party titles. They are amazing. Playing with a smile on your face etc. I like that.
If nintendo would stop producing games I wouldnt buy anymore consoles. If they ever go multiplatform I hope they wint make any console exclusives.
Thats my idea about gaming and why I buy nintendo consoles. The lack of third parties doesnt bother me at all, especially when it comes to ea, ubi or activision.
What I am more concerned with is the pricing of the console and how it will help to achieve mass market succes. Nintendos recent policies are a little bit in your face imo. If parents checks out how much money needs to be invested they might rather give their kids a tablet pc and go on a vacayion with the saved money. ☺
I will definitely buy it. I do have the money but cant bring myself to support that milking thing, at least not right away.
☺
However, there is a good side about it being pricy. Today I was thinking that I am paying lots of money for cigarettes eacg month, get nothing from it and might actually shorten my life (and there is so many games in backlog to be played).
So today I made a plan to cut down on smoking systematically for 6 months and hopefully stop it completely during summer vacation. Now for each day that I manage to stick to this plan I want to set aside 3 Eur. That would be 540 Eur total -optimistically. For that money I could easily afford to buy the switch with a pro controller, zelda and mk8 and will do that as a reward.
Of course its not that easy to make plans when it comes to smoking but still this incentive might work as an accompanying mind game ☺
Pcs, tablets and powerful mobiles are a different world. Its alwas unfair to compare those two worlds. Even the scorpio will soon be underpowered compared to a high class gaming pc. The switch is a special design,
But still it will run games that you cannot find anywhere else☺ If it werent for the first party games I couldnt actually care less about the switch. Thays another bothersome idea, I would be fine with a straight home console. In this regard I wouldnt have never bought a portable console like the 3ds if it werent for nintendos games. I think you dont buy a nintendo console for the technology. Another point why pricing matters
Just brought this up as an example. I am interested on physical games. So a 32 gb micro sd should the job for me. I understand the switch might be a nice piece of tech. To me its more of nintendos general money milking approach. If you dont see that, then dont. They dont try to compete with sony or ms in any way, thats fine with me, but if the switch fails in the long run it will be nintendos fault.
Maybe a better example: ok. The joy cons cost 80 dollars. Ok, its two of them, costly gimmicky tech. Accepted. But why does nintendo charge 50 dollars for just one of them? Why would anyone in their right mind just buy one of those and not two? - well, maybe one got lost or simply broke, in this case its 50 bucks. And it doesnt really make sense to but a pair of joycons in that instance because they are both different. Thats a little bit annoying. One annoyance is ok, but there is simply too many as to turn a blind eye
Its not the price for the console that bothers people the most. The price could be better but is still within reasonable bounds. Its the more or less hidden costs attached to it that push up the price. Just imagine somebody wanted to go pure digital, how much is he gonna pay for the equivalent of a 500gb hd in micro sd cards? that is standard for the other consoles. It adds up...
I think gamecube will come to the switch. They know fans have been asking about this a lot and would foolish not capitalize on that opportunity. I would like to play pool of radiance☺

@CheezIt
Pcs, tablets and powerful mobiles are a different world. Its alwas unfair to compare those two worlds. Even the scorpio will soon be underpowered compared to a high class gaming pc. The switch is a special design,
underpowered - check
Overpriced - check
Limited - check
But still it will run games that you cannot find anywhere else☺
If it werent for the first party games I couldnt actually care less about the switch. Thays another bothersome idea, I would be fine with a straight home console. In this regard I wouldnt have never bought a portable console like the 3ds if it werent for nintendos games.
I think you dont buy a nintendo console for the technology. Another point why pricing matters

Thats very true and I understand. 64gb could have been a start though. Reasoning behind it or not it drives the price up,

@3MonthBeef

@OorWullie
