I wasnt really aware of this woman until she got fired and like I said, her behavior/actions were not just stupid they were beyond the limit, I mean what was she trying to accomplish?
One thing that I really like are the comments on this thread, it really shows that people still believe in the right thing and dont come up with excuses for someone who just did plain wrong. We can all agree that her actions were not just stupid but really to be condemned from a moral point of view etc.
Maybe those people who are standing behind her and attacking nintedo for firing her, share the same views as her - I dont care, hope I will never hear about her again and that nintendo has learnt a lesson as to thoroughly check who they are hiring and put next to children - this one was definitely beyond the limit
When I hear about that thesis paper I thought I am kicked by a horse - who can a professor even agree on that? I mean, allright, we have got free speech and stuff, but still, we are talking about child pornography here, there is no grey zone here, not a single argument to justify any of it. Glad she was fired
Exactly|! certain things need to be condemned right away, and its not like just a rumour surrounding her, she wrote a thesis paper on it - I mean what makes a 'normal' person write on something like that and take a positive stance toward it - its just crazy. - where is the world heading to?>
What strikes me as odd is that nintendo didnt investigate her before they even hired her. IMHO somebody who endorses pedophilia shouldnt have anything to do with children at all. People like her should go to therapy. As far as online hate groups are concerned I dont endorse such group, but lets be honest we live in a small world, our actions will have reactions, if you do something stupid people will pick on it and so will you!!! Doesnt really matter if its a woman or a man
I agree with you! I have come to know nintendo games as the fun counterpart to sony or ms - so much as to sell all my games for non-nintendo consoles. I got quite invested, right now I have such a huge backlog of games that I even doubt I play all of them games in my life. But gaming, to me, isnt about beating a game, its about having fun - not rushing. This most important aspect was missing when I owned an xbox 360 and I am so happy to have switched to nintendo. Its very unlikely that I am going to buy any non-nintendo related system. But, that being said, I dont consider myself a nintendo fanboy. I like their games, but that doesnt mean I will buy every game they release, no matter how bad, etc. I am not going to buy amiibo festival and wonder why they have invested money and manpower into creating such a game when they could have made a game which their fans want, like wave race for example. Region lock is the most unnecessary thing they could have come up, I would really like to buy pikmin 2 - but its not available in Europe whereas I could have got a comparably cheap, brand new and sealed US-copy, if not for the region lock. Same goes for many other things that nintendo has had the audacity to pull of, like the fire emblem limited edition disaster.
Running a company is probably not easy and the competition is fierce. So why doesnt nintendo listen to their fans and just try a little bit harder to meet their expectations instead of arrogantly imposing their business strategies onto their fans?
Of course, mynintendo is better than nothing at all, but do I have to call it groundbreaking, or beneficial? Do I have to voice my opinion about it in the most positive way possible? No, I call it what it is, a poorly designed, customer unfriendly cash-grab system, and I hope that most people will see it for what it is and try not to fall for it. Buy yourselves some physical copies instead of overpaying for digital and be poorly rewarded.
You are absolutely right! But to be honest I dont care - if I want a game then I will buy it anyway - no need for a discount. the only exceptions are full priced digital only games like dual destinies or the upcoming xero escape game -
Yeah, those physical rewards were cool - and surprising - now you get a discount on something that you either own already or can buy cheaper without the discount in a physical version - which I prefer anyway -
Same with me - I would pay even a little bit more for a physical copy than have this digital thing. One thing that I actually like about mynintendo is that you can get those platinum points for free. Since miitomo is not available in Poland (for whatever reason) it will take some time to get the 1000 points needed for zelda picross - but still, I am looking forward to that game
Just btw, I like companies who dont show their greed that openly. As it stands now, I like the games nintendo produces, but nintendo as a company is way to greedy as to call it a good company (among many other reasons)
I dont really like the rewards system. Having two different kinds of points and two different reward systems related to them is a little bit confusing, points vanishing after a six months period is stupid - its only designed to make people buy more and spend more money (I know nintendo is a business). I think a two year option would be fair.
The rewards are a little bit pointless IMHO. Lets be honest, most nintendo fans own most of the games already be it physical or digital (I do). Then, there arent actually too many games that are really worth buying IMHO. Take the wii u for example, how many games am I going to buy this year? Probably three, the star fox zero first print edition (will get me star fox guard in a physical version), paper mario and hopefully zelda U, all of which I am going to get physical. That leaves virtual console games to get me points, I have already bought most vc games that I was interested in, that was in between the rewards system. Mynintendo does no backtracking here
IMHO the old nintendo club was far better - it was really neat to get some physical collectors items. But I guess this is all due to the new digital era that we live in. Its much cheaper for nintendo to maintain a digital only rewards system rather than to print cards with nintendo points and put them into gaming cases - and of course have physical reward items produced, stored and shipped.
Definitely not to my liking this whole new thing...
@AJ_Okami
The second most pathetic thing in regard to this whole matter is the fact that Nintendo doesnt really care about this problem - they might even take delight in it. When the Limited Editions pre-order was sold out in Japan and there was still high demand and fans outcry they produced a second run (according to wiki). When the same thing happened in NA, nintendo didnt intervene at all. Nintendo will most certainly be aware of scalpers selling the LE at ridiculously high prices - yet they dont intervene. This is a sitution which they have created and which only they can undo. But they dont care. I dont know if there is any other company like that. Like I said before - this way of doing business is the major reason why I am re-considering the purchase of any future systems from nintendo - I will probably miss out on some great titles as I do believe nintendo produces the best games but there is just too many annoyances that you to put up with in general. The price for being a nintendo fan has become quite high IMHO.
Its really pathetic what nintendo pulled off here. I dont actually believe there was like 30 copies for a whole country, though - that would be ridiculous but still the demand definitely was not met by far.
And like you already implied, I am not gonna spend my whole days checking online retailers - I have got a life to live. Technically we are not missing out on anything nor are we saving anything cause the digital version will bring the same content and the roughly cost the same. I think nintendo shouldnt have brought out a limited edition at all. IMHO they should have let people pre-order that edition and produce as many copies as there were pre-orders, a pre-order-only limited edition. That would have been fair IMHO>
The Fire Emblem annoyance was somehow the turning point for me. It was the very first time in my life that I really wanted to buy a special edition of a game (believe it or not) and when I realized it was sold out (a couple of weeks ago in Poland) I felt really bad about not getting to pre-order a copy. Then I realized that I shouldnt really care too much about games. If their next consoles wont be backwards compatible then I am gonna buy one or two more wii us and one or two more 3ds and call it a day. I have a huge backlog of games and some other hobbies. I am beginning to dislike nintendos (arrogant) business practices. They dont really seem to care about what their fans want.
I am interested in the Fire Emblem DLCs. As a matter of fact I havent started the game yet - wanted to play those other games in the series first and as it seems you need to play the game until chapter 6. This will probably make me start playing.
In order to buy all packs, I would need to invest about 25 EUR. Is it worth buying them all at that price? Heard some of the DLC are a little bit forgettable. Any recommendations?
I dont think its entirely true. You cannot blame people for not buying a game. Bigger developers have suffered the same fate. I checked some vid reviews of scribblenauts and thought this game is not for me. Take shovel knight for example, I think it was quite a success. The game appealed to me to and I bought a physical copy on wii u.
In the end I think its for each and everyone to decide which version they wanna get. Having options is always welcome, not having them feels as if the company forces you into a business modell. One thing inspired me, thoguh, if there was no physical retail version, a lot of people would lose their jobs right?
The production and distribution of digital copies and physical copies is very different. A physical copy needs to be manufactured in a factory, there are costs, the physical copy needs to be shipped and distributed among retailers, shipping costs and of course each and every middle man wants to earn his share. So, in the end the profit nintendo earns from a physical copy will be a lot less compared to a digital copy which has no production costs at all, the distribution costs are probably not so high as well. So they earn a lot with digital. Digital copies come with a lot of limitations and only a few conveniences.
I am actually not really interested in the price. If digital were cheaper then I would still go with physical (personal preferences). But since its more expensive in Europe or at least as expensive in North America, I dont really see a reason why people should buy digital copies.
As far as storage is concerned I fully agree with you. As long as its a physical copy I am happy.
However, I think game companies, especially nintendo should be more customer/consumer friendly and not that arrogant as they apparently are. All companies need to make a profit, but too much greed is no good. If somebody bought a game on the wii u vc then he should get it on 3ds for free - thats what I would do if I were the boss of nintendo. I guess this wouldnt ruin the company - on the contrary: people would appreciate.
I dont sell my games either, but why should I pay more for a digital game? - I dont see the point. And its not just about selling games, to me its about the possibility - lets say there comes a day when I need money badly and selling my collection becomes the only way out - yes, thats an option. A digital collection would be very hard to sell. Besides, I like having a collection of games and I like their packagings! Whenever there is a game that comes out digital only (like Zero Time Dilemma) I feel a little shortchanged. I bought myself Dual Destinies on a sale and will do the same with zero time dilemma - not paying full price for it.
Companies are generally greedy - nintendos new wave of vc titles is a prime example, in the end its up to each and everyone of us to decide if we go for it or not. Digital downloads are generally a bad deal, it might be convenient but this convenience comes with a high asking price. I take the inconvenience of storing games any time! I kinda like game packings and the feel of actually owning a game. Another thing that comes to mind, are those digitally purchased games available for ever? Lets say your console breaks in a couple of years, there is no BC on the NX and the wii u shop is down. I guess its gonna be easier to get another working wii u or 3ds.
Just btw, companies dont lose money on second hand games. True they dont earn anything when the game's being traded but the question is if people would still buy their product at all if second hand wasnt possible or if people would buy as many products if selling them wasnt possible. Nintendo is losing money because of bad business decisions and bad games. How can they expect a game like amiibo festival to create millions of revenue.
Digital definitely has its benifits. I own lots vc titles for wii u - its fine, I still prefer buying games physical. If the nx was download only I dont think I would buy it.
I was actually referring to the xbox one/ps4 difference at e3 a couple of years back. Like I said before, I wanted to buy an xbox one but after that e3 I was leaning more towards ps4. Luckily I made a quick decision at christmas 2014 and bought myself a wii u and 2ds. Didnt regret it so far
@Rei Cant follow you. What do you mean by joke console? My microsoft example refers to their digital only plan which backfired. Just btw its always about the consumers! In the end its the consumer who decides! As a consumer you have two options: 1. BUY A PRODUCT 2. NOT BUY A PRODUCT So, if most consumers dont buy a product, the product is less likely to be succesful. This does not only appy to products but also business strategies. If there is a majority of people who are against digital only then it is less likely to happen. Thats it. You just have to be stand firm. And in regard to Microsoft, I owned a 360 back in the day, and was prepared to buy the xbox one, until they came up with their digital only plan (and some other policies they wanted to enforce on the consumer). Its always the consumer who decides.
Totally agreed. Maybe its just one of those strategies to get people more accustomed to the idea of buying digital games. Mircrosoft tried that once. Nintendo should be better than this.
Digital only when the game has not been released as a physical edition and then I will wait as long as its been put on sale. The only retail game thus far is Ace Attorney dual destinies - bought it when it was on sale and only because europe didnt get a physical release. I will apply the same strategy for zero time dilemma and probably rune factory 4.
I understand game companies earn more with digital and they can control the price which is generally higher than the physical release. Moreover there are limited options with digital, you cannot sell it and you cannot give or take it to your friend.
I guess I wont buy anymore consoles/games when its digital only.
As far as this mynintendo account is concerned, I dont care. First of all I live in Poland, there is no mynintendo. btw THANK YOU NINTENDO for treating your fans equal.
I see! Thanks! Personally I dont really like DLC - somewhat miss the days when you bought a complete game right at the beginning without the possibility of some quick cash-ins by publishers. At first I thought Nintendo would be different, releasing meaningful DLC like new tracks for mario kart 8 but they have quickly expanded. Fire Emblem Fates for example, releasing basically three version of one and the same game - ok, all of them seem to be meaningful and very substantial, I even really like that approach BUT then there is additional dlc coming up. I probably wont buy any of those, or maybe I will... and thats the problem. But maybe I am already too old for those kinds of business models,
correct me if I am wrong but wasnt the 3ds version meant to come out with all available dlc? Luckily I am not into that game at all, neither wii u nor 3ds - played the 3ds demo recently and it confirmed me in my assessment that this game is kind of shallow
Definitely!!! Even though I dont sell my games I feel that my physical games are at least worth something if not a lot. Digital games arent really worth anything anymore IMHO. You would need to sell your whole systems and NNID and that doesnt make any sense. I just hope the nx will come with a physical drive and physical games.
Good news, I read some disturbing articles in the past, with people complaining about nintendo creating unnecessary problems. Hope I will never get into the situation. Still, a more flexible account system would be very welcome
One thing they have apparently missed working on is having games still tied to a console and not an account. My consoles didnt break yet but I dont like the idea of losing all games.
While I would have bought it at release for full price I will wait until there is a huge discount to be had on the eshop - I never pay full for digital as I am getting much less.

2. NOT BUY A PRODUCT
So, if most consumers dont buy a product, the product is less likely to be succesful.
Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?
@Yosher
When its download only then I am out.

@Ralizah
What risk factor? Please, enlighten me!
Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?
@Rei
Totally agreed. Maybe its just one of those strategies to get people more accustomed to the idea of buying digital games. Mircrosoft tried that once. Nintendo should be better than this.
Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?
Re: Nintendo Announces Separate Hyrule Warriors Season Passes for Wii U and 3DS
@MarinoKadame
I see!
But maybe I am already too old for those kinds of business models,
Re: Nintendo Announces Separate Hyrule Warriors Season Passes for Wii U and 3DS
correct me if I am wrong but wasnt the 3ds version meant to come out with all available dlc? Luckily I am not into that game at all, neither wii u nor 3ds - played the 3ds demo recently and it confirmed me in my assessment that this game is kind of shallow
Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller
I dont like it
Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy
@GreatPlayer
Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy
@DefHalan
Good news, I read some disturbing articles in the past, with people complaining about nintendo creating unnecessary problems. Hope I will never get into the situation. Still, a more flexible account system would be very welcome
Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy
One thing they have apparently missed working on is having games still tied to a console and not an account. My consoles didnt break yet but I dont like the idea of losing all games.
Re: Zero Time Dilemma Launches on 28th June in North America and Europe
While I would have bought it at release for full price I will wait until there is a huge discount to be had on the eshop - I never pay full for digital as I am getting much less.
Re: Zero Time Dilemma Launches on 28th June in North America and Europe
I will buy it since I have got both other games but this is another punch in the face, whats wrong with bringing it out physical as well?
