Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 12th)

Allspice

Animal Crossing. Just island maintenance.

Still on Dragon Quest II. I don't know how much more I have of it, but after that it's on to Dragon Quest III.

Vampire the Masquerade: Coteries of New York probably, since the new one is out now. Although I'm a little hesitant to start yet another visual novel when I still have not finished Arcade Spirits and Cinders.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 5th)

Allspice

Animal Crossing. I'm trying to breed purple pansys and it's...not going that well.

Continuing with my journey through the Dragon Quest games I started last week. I finished Dragon Quest I so I'm onto Dragon Quest II. I think I'll just finish II and III and take a break. I'll get to XI eventually. lol

Other than that...I might play some more Cattails. I recently noticed it had an update (I don't know how old that was or what it changed) and played it for a bit. I finished Brave Dungeon on Lunatic mode, but I still might play more of it. There are still achievements to get. I might play more Arcade Spirits and Cinders. Both are very good visual novels.

Re: Round Up: Gamescom 2020 - Here Are The Nintendo Switch Highlights

Allspice

Not much got my attention this time. I still want to play The Outer Worlds eventually.

I wanted to play the Lego Star Wars games years ago so I might get The Skywalker Saga on sale. I'd only want to play through the PT and OT though so I don't know how worth it it would be...actually I have The Complete Saga on 360 (I went to check because I forgot, that is how long its been since I've played my 360), I might skip it on Switch. Sorry to those who like the new movies I just...really don't.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 29th)

Allspice

Animal Crossing for a little while like I have everyday. I just finished Cat Quest II, so I think I'll put that one down for a while and then maybe play New Game+.

I want to play the Dragon Quest games from the beginning, so I just started Dragon Quest I. I'm close to beating Brave Dungeon on Lunatic Mode, so I'll probably play some of that. Others I might play include Arcade Spirits, Pillars of Eternity, and Cinders. I also might play Stakes Winner. I am so sad that there are multiple horse racing games on Switch, but the two Stakes Winner games are the only non-mobile ones in English. They are old arcade games and while they're fun, I want a deeper Gallop Racer/G1 Jockey type game. Or on Switch it would be Winning Post and Derby Stallion, the other two are long gone.

EDIT: Cattails had an update so I played that for a little while. I forgot how much I liked that game.

Re: Street Fighter's Producer Yoshinori Ono Is Leaving Capcom After Almost 30 Years

Allspice

Street Fighter II is the first game I remember playing; it was in a place down the street from where we rented movies. It wasn't an arcade (I don't remember what it was), but it had a SFII cabinet right next to the door. When I got a Genesis, SFII was the second game I played (after Sonic 2). I played it with my cousins and friends all the time.

Thank you, Yoshinori Ono, for all the great memories.

Re: The Team Behind Konami's Classic Suikoden Is Creating A Spiritual Successor

Allspice

This isn't going to be on Switch. It doesn't sound like they even want to offer it for Switch so I hope they don't. Also, they are going to get a publisher, just like I figured they would which makes this a Kickstarter I wouldn't back even if I did back Kickstarters. Kickstarter is suppose to be for people without publishers, not people who don't have one yet but are in talks to get one.

Again, the game itself looks interesting enough. I'll look into it when it's done.

Re: Suikoden Creators Crowdfunding New JRPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Allspice

They are asking for $500,000? They have to have funding from somewhere else or they are using this to prove people want it to get funding from somewhere else because that isn't nearly enough. Both Mighty No. 9 and Bloodstained got a publisher after their Kickstarter campaigns were successful. I don't see why this would be any different.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Prepared To Spend $70 On The Latest Games?

Allspice

I'd be hesitant to pay that much, and especially not with digital games. For a physical version I'd be more likely to pay that much, but with the way even games that are complete on cart at launch get day-one patches and additional content that isn't (and might never be available) on cart it is increasingly becoming harder to justify.

ETA: On a side-note, the physical version of BOTW is $50 instead of $60 on Amazon right now and I'm seriously considering it. Nintendo games, as the article says, don't go down in price very often...

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

Allspice

I had no expectations because by the time I knew about it, it was already over. SMT III and V were great, plus some news about Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin and Atelier Ryza 2 from the Japanese direct was nice too.

As for Nintendo not showing anything themselves, I have a huge backlog, and not just on Switch. My 3DS and Vita deserve some love too. I need to finish Diablo III (I'm almost done with it). I've also been trying out games I've had for a while like Hollow Knight, Forager, Mario+Rabbids, Code of Princess and RemiLore. I still need to get around to Kirby Planet Robobot and Star Allies, LoH: Trails of Cold Steel, Etrian Odyssey Nexus...

There is so much to play while I wait for Nintendo to show new things is the point. lol

@COVIDberry There might be something to the "older gamer perspective" thing, as I have also been gaming for a long time. The first game I remember playing was the arcade version of Street Fighter II and my first console was a Genesis.

Re: Watch: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase July 2020

Allspice

SMT III and V! Nice.

The Japanese direct had more games, including Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. I'm curious about that one. I don't know why they didn't include that game in the direct we got, it's already confirmed to be coming west.

ETA: I don't mind that there aren't too many Nintendo games coming this year. I have a huge backlog, not only for Switch, but for the 3DS and Vita too. For example, I want to play LoH: Trails of Cold Steel before I play the sequels. I'm still playing Animal Crossing a little bit everyday. I just started playing Forager and Hollow Knight. I really like both but Hollow Knight is hard...either that or I'm no good at action platformers. Could be both.

Re: Cosmic Star Heroine Dev Explains Its "Frustrating" Experience Working With Nintendo

Allspice

Yeah, a specific mention from Nintendo may have helped...then again, maybe not. It was promoted by Sony during E3 2016 with a trailer on their YT channel. That didn't help it sell on PS4. It isn't selling well on PC (Steam and GOG) either. I feel like I should mention it is on the Vita too (poor little thing).

Anyways, did they think the Switch would magically turn it around and it would be a hit without them doing anything extra? At least their publisher tried a bit, announcing the Switch version at this year's E3 along with the rest of their upcoming games. That's where I heard it was coming to Switch.

Re: Nintendo Has Sold 19.67 Million Switch Consoles To Date

Allspice

@Razer Just to add in a different perspective: those apps (and a browser) would mean nothing to me. I have never used a game console as an all around media device, that is not what I bought it for. I bought it to play games on it. I have plenty of other devices for YouTube and Netflix.

What I really want are features that past consoles had that aren't there now. There are no manuals (except for the NEO-GEO ports), not even in digital form. It doesn't give you any ability to view patch notes when it updates games (as far as I can tell, it doesn't even tell you how big the update was). You can't sort the games. It doesn't give you an exact number for how long you've played any given game (for example: Stardew Valley only says more than 125 hours). You can't view a list of your e-shop purchases, it only shows what you don't currently have installed. If the Switch has any of these features and I simply overlooked them, please someone tell me.

Anyways, I think as far as games go the Switch is doing fine. The quality is there and there is a lot of it. Counting only physical games, I have around 40. Very few are made by Nintendo (around ten of them), it's mostly third parties. I'll type up a list if you want.

@Euler Regan's "if you’re explaining, you’re losing", is a quote that has never sat well with me. You can invalidate everything someone is trying to say by waving your hand and saying that phrase. Explanations aren't bad, sometimes they are essential. If he meant don't over explain, I agree with that. But that's not what he said.

Re: Switch Isn't The Right Platform For Yakuza, Says Series Producer

Allspice

I have never played any of the Yakuza games, but if they released it on Switch (in English) I'd give it a shot. I've heard they are good.

We didn't get the remasters on Wii U here though. I didn't even know they had released them on Wii U. I bought AC IV: Black Flag, NFS: Most Wanted, Bayonetta 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Watch Dogs on Wii U. I would have bought the Yakuza games too.

Re: Todd Howard Says Bethesda Will “Certainly Be Doing Things" With Switch In The Future

Allspice

@gortsi @GrailUK *She. And I didn't say that at all. I said I don't see them supporting the console in any meaningful way going forward. I bought the games they released hoping enough people would do the same to encourage them to release more. I don't think it worked.

Four? Skyrim, Doom, Wolfenstein II...what was the fourth?

EDIT: Oh, are you counting Fallout Shelter? That was the fourth I guess.

Re: Todd Howard Says Bethesda Will “Certainly Be Doing Things" With Switch In The Future

Allspice

So...

1. "We think that the Switch is a great platform." (Everyone seems to say that.)

2. "Well, there’s definitely interest..." (People want Fallout on Switch.)

3. "...not something that we are exploring right now." (We don't care, though.)

4. "...we’ll certainly be doing things with the platform in the future..." (Like Fallout Shelter, a port of a mobile game that came out in 2015.)

They should just stop acting like they are going to support the Switch in any meaningful way going forward. They aren't. Just say it. I thought there was a chance for at least a port of Fallout 3, but clearly I was wrong.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release

Allspice

I am not surprised. I knew it wouldn't be released on Wii U...I doubt it will come out on the Switch. I have no faith in any of these devs when it comes to Nintendo. I just automatically assume their games won't make it there.

Honestly, I suggest every Wii U owner who backed it for the system request a refund rather than switching to a different platform. They said contact them if you want a refund. If you still want it, get it later on sale or used. They made this decision for monetary reasons (you cannot convince me otherwise, short of a video of the game running on actual hardware showing the exact problems they were having), you may as well take your money back since they are not delivering what was promised and knew far in advance of this that they couldn't/wouldn't.

Just another reason I will never back a Kickstarter or buy an Early Access game. You never know what will happen with them, it is a total waste of money.

Re: eBay Reports an Average NES Mini Sale Price of Over $200

Allspice

Scalpers are awful and I can't believe eBay condones it (isn't it illegal?), but I guess it doesn't matter to them. They are making a lot of money off people's impatience.

In the middle of the amiibo craze I thought I'd never get a Fox or Zero Suit Samus. Guess what I saw the last time I went to Target? They had multiples of both and the Target exclusive Jigglypuff too. I'm glad I didn't pay a premium for them or I would have been standing there, staring at them, silently seething. lol XD I did pay more than I probably should have for a couple of them, $25 was the most I spent on one (the Villager) but I never did resort to eBay.

Anyways, tl:dr I learned from the amiibo debacle. I know Nintendo will make more and I will be able to get a NES Classic, it will just take a while for them to catch up.

Re: No, There Isn't A Nintendo Switch Beta Program

Allspice

@DeltaPeng I've seen those types of scams too, although I haven't had any call me. I didn't know they went so far as to send actual fake checks though.

You can also report the number to the IRS. Some good news: a building in India was busted for running the IRS scam not too long ago. Around 70 people were arrested I think. Not much in the grand scheme of things, but it's a start.

As a side-note, if anyone is interested in learning about the various types of scams out there like these, check out HoaxHotel on YouTube. He makes excellent videos on all kinds of scammers. Very entertaining. Be aware that there is swearing though.

Re: No, There Isn't A Nintendo Switch Beta Program

Allspice

So many scammers out there, everyone really needs to be vigilant and careful. For this particular one, if Nintendo was going to do this they would announce it on twitter/Facebook. If you don't see anything about it there, don't believe it.

I tend to get the Windows tech support scammers and the IRS scammers calling me. The IRS ones are ridiculous. I don't know how people who call them to waste their time manage to keep it together. This is how it almost always goes:
1. they have a thick, usually Indian accent with a western sounding name (like Bob, Mike, John);
2. they tell you the IRS has a lawsuit against you (the IRS doesn't do that);
3. that you have to pay immediately or you will be arrested (they don't do that either);
4. will tell you prepaid cards (usually iTunes) are acceptable means of paying off your debt to the IRS, and finally;
5. they will start cussing at you when they realize you know it's a scam and won't pay. XD

Re: Super Mario Run Jumps Onto iOS on 15th December, Priced $9.99 for Full Unlock

Allspice

I have an Android phone so I can't get it (yet, apparently we'll get eventually). Considering there are more people running Android than iOS you'd think they wouldn't treat us like second class citizens. If they keep the exclusive thing with Apple going I might just say forget it to all of their mobile games out of spite. Maybe. Let's face it, no I won't if the game is actually worth playing. Stupid Nintendo.

As for the price, $10 sounds fine for a complete game with no ads and no additional microtransactions. I have a number of paid games on my phone, like pretty much everything not free to play from Kairosoft and there are a number of games where I would love the option to just pay a set amount. But those are the fee to play, not free to play games. If they did charge a set amount, they couldn't take advantage of their game's "whales" anymore.

For a pretty good example, look at DragonVale. Their dragon designs are really good and taking care of a park full of dragons is something I've wanted in a game for a long time, but they have two types of currency; coins and gems. Gems are the premium currency. You can get some for free (there are gem dragons you can get through breeding that will net you 1 gem per week or 2 per month when you've upgraded them fully) but if you want a substantial amount, you need to pay. It ranges from $1.99 for 50 gems to $99.99 for 3,750 gems! For that amount you would think you could buy at least one of anything in the game but no, the most expensive dragon is 3,800 gems! I can't imagine who would pay that amount but I'd bet anything they have at least a few people that do.

Yeah, anyways, tl;dr: I hate that it's a timed exclusive to iOS but I think the price is fine.

Re: Data Miners Find More New Monsters In Pokémon Sun And Moon Demo

Allspice

The leak was 100% right on the starters...and because of that Litten just became another fire starter I won't be using. They just had to put Litten up on two feet. And they had to make Alola Persian look like a joke. Great. I never thought they would make a dark type Persian look like that, it almost looks like a Ditto Persian.

Sorry, I was just looking forward to my favorite Pokemon getting an awesome looking Alola form, like Alola Ninetales, Sandslash, Raichu, Marowak and Muk.

At least the other two starters look really good. I think I'll go with Rowlet because owls.

Re: EA Had Plans To Create Its Own Pokémon Competitor

Allspice

@Piersen Pokemon is older than Digimon. Digimon came out in 1997 as a Tamagotchi type thing; Red and Green came out in 1996. Megami Tensei/Shin Megami Tensei are much, much older though. The first one came out in 1987/1992.

I wonder what platform this would have been on. It says it was created during the DS era, but it doesn't say it was for the DS. It could have been for the PSP or even one of the consoles.

Re: Talking Point: The Inevitability of Super Mario Run, Nintendo's Ace for the Mobile Market

Allspice

I can't say I'm happy about it. Nothing against the game, it's because I can't play it until at least next year because I dare to have an Android phone. And I am not switching either, I'm too used to Android at this point. Plus I love my Samsung Galaxy S6. <3

Anyways, I tried the Sonic runner. It was fun but it didn't hold my attention so maybe I'm not missing out on much. I still want to try it though...well maybe I shouldn't bother if iOS will always get their stuff first. Which will probably happen. Ugh.

Re: Pokémon GO's Success Has Convinced Sony To Perform About-Face On Mobile Gaming

Allspice

They already have their hands in mobile and I don't think they have done very well. Or if they have, I haven't seen them say so.

They do have a couple games I would like to see come back even if it's as a mobile game, like LocoRoco, but that game doesn't have the sheer brand power Pokemon does. I'd play it though since LocoRoco was on the PSP and I really dislike the PSP, especially after the Vita released and felt so much better. Such a great handheld, would have been a great rival for the 3DS. A shame Sony killed it with overpriced proprietary memory cards. It's still $60 for a 32GB card and unlike on the 3DS where that will probably be all you need ever, that doesn't go very far on the Vita.
