Re: New Pokémon and Antagonists, Team Skull, Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Allspice

YES! Dark type Persian inbound! My favorite Pokemon gets the typing it should have, Persian learns a bunch of Dark-type moves anyway. Also that sassy Meowth, I love it. <3

The new ones are ok. I still don't like the bear, though it's pre-evolution is cute. The fish is...a fish. lol I don't have much else to say about it, the only fish that sticks out in my mind is Magikarp. I like the sandcastle. I never minded the inanimate object Pokemon, one of my favorites to come out of the recent gen games was Chandelure.

Team Skull, huh? Ok. My favorite team is still Team Rocket and I don't expect that to change.

Re: Ubisoft Has "Surprises" Yet to be Announced for Nintendo NX

Allspice

I'm sure it will be Just Dance and ports of older games. If you think one of those "surprises" could be BG&E2...no. It isn't.

The first one was released in 2003 and they have officially said "it's being worked on" in 2008, 2010-2016. And I don't really believe they are actually, truly working on it. Why? Back in 2011 Ubisoft told fans if they want BG&E2 to "buy Rayman: Origins". In 2013, the creator of Child of Light said how hard it was to get Ubisoft behind it because of BG&E: "Beyond Good & Evil was not a success, and we made that mistake once".

So just forget it. That game is never coming out. Never. Yes, I'm bitter about it too, but by now we should all just accept it.

EDIT: Oh and the creator of it, Michel Ancel, doesn't even really work for Ubisoft anymore. He created his own studio in 2014 and they are working on their own game called WILD. Ubisoft is not involved in any way with the project, it was picked up by Sony. Ubisoft says he will still be involved with certain projects, but I don't think it will go any further than Rayman.

Re: Multiple Sources Outline a Portable NX With Detachable Controllers, Including a 'Base Station' for TV

Allspice

@Dr_Corndog I didn't mean they ran poorly, I mean they wouldn't start at all (to be fair they are both older games). Once I did get them going they worked perfectly. I wouldn't have to do that with a console game. It either works or it doesn't, there are no varying hardware/software configurations to take into account. That's why I prefer them to PCs for the most part.

Did Skyrim break PS3s? I thought it was just broken. Do you mean the save file thing?

Re: Multiple Sources Outline a Portable NX With Detachable Controllers, Including a 'Base Station' for TV

Allspice

@Dr_Corndog I disagree completely. There is still a space for consoles. You can't simply put a disk in/start a game you've downloaded and play it on a PC with every title. Getting some games to play is a hassle. Just recently I had issues getting Titan Quest and Divine Divinity to work. I figured out how but finding the solution was wasted time I could have spent playing the game.

Point is, the beauty of a console is (supposed to be) being able to just put the game in and play it. Sony and Microsoft have forgotten this with the outdated PCs they call consoles, but hopefully Nintendo has not.

Re: Hands On: Painting a Clearer Picture of Paper Mario: Color Splash

Allspice

Looks like if you want RPG Mario, Mario & Luigi is what you're going to have to play. They have made it clear that they don't want two RPG Marios and Paper Mario is the one that has to change.

I sympathize with those of you that are upset, I think we've all been there, but at some point you just need to throw your hands in the air and give up. Just avoid it entirely.

Re: Feature: A Year On - Satoru Iwata and His Enduring Legacy

Allspice

@Moon Yes, Kimishima-san speaks English. I imagine he's completely fluent. He worked overseas (mostly America) for most of his 40 or so year career and was NoA's president before handing the job off to Reggie.

Iwata was such an incredible man. Just hearing his name still makes me tear up. Seeing him on stage at E3, hosting Nintendo Directs and just...everything he did was a joy to witness. He had such a great sense of humor...

He was also so important to HAL/Nintendo...I would say just as much as anyone else, even Shigeru Miyamoto. He was a gamer first, not a CEO and that is what made him different. I'm sure I don't have to say it, but he started as a programmer for HAL. Game series he worked on in that capacity include: Earthbound, Kirby, Smash...he also helped with some of the Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games. His colleagues talked about how brilliant he was at programing multiple times...he could code circles around anyone.

Oh and he worked on another series, one those of us outside Japan might not have heard of without him: Pokemon. He was called "instrumental" by Ishihara (the CEO of The Pokemon Company) to bringing Pokemon west. Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo's CEO at the time, wanted Pokemon released overseas but Game Freak was working on Gold and Silver (which Iwata also helped with, along with Pokemon Stadium) at the time and didn't have the resources to do it. "But that’s where one man raised his hand—HAL Laboratory’s president Iwata...Iwata-san got the source code for Red and Green, and bam, read through it all, then began mapping out a course on how to make a foreign version for it". Quotes were taken from a translated interview 4gamer had with Ishihara. I wish he was here to see how well Pokemon Go is doing. He started the plan for mobile and he was probably the one that gave it the green light.

Sorry this is so long. I don't think I ever really said much about Iwata after his death. Like I said at the beginning, just hearing his name makes me start to cry...

Re: Scott Moffitt is Leaving Nintendo

Allspice

@XCWarrior Considering what they've been doing the past few years, I think they know they need another plan just in case the NX fails.

They introduced amiibo, they are branching into mobile, movies, and theme parks. They are licensing out their IPs more often, like the recent deal with Vans (I love my Peach shoes! <3). Basically what I mean is they are exploring other ventures, they aren't focusing purely on video games anymore.

Re: Chinese App, 'Pocket All-Stars Smash Bros.', Uses Nintendo, Capcom and SEGA Franchises

Allspice

I don't see what some of you are seeing. The gameplay looks like it is really simple and would get repetitive very quickly. I got bored of it not even halfway through the video. It's not visually appealing either due to the art style not being consistent. It's just a mishmash of stolen assets. I will give it this, the music is really goo...oh wait. That's stolen too.

If you want to play good mobile games, give companies like Kairosoft a try. Don't support thieves.

@WolfyWardark These kinds of games have been there right along, it's just NL and others are talking about them now for whatever reason.

Re: Seven New Pokémon Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Allspice

If Drampa evolves, he'll be on my team. I love dragon types and I also love Chinese dragons. Just too cute. <3 Now that I've said that watch him turn something disappointing...like when the gorgeous Dragonair turned into Barney the Dragon.

I've never been a fan of bug types, although Cutiefly is kinda...well cute. When I first saw it, I was hoping it was a hummingbird though.

I've also had enough of electric rats. I've been a fan of Pokemon since it's release (Yellow was the version I had) and I just can't stand Pikachu now. They did mix it up with Togedemaru a bit and gave it a steel type too. Only the Magnemite line has that typing, so points for that. If it evolves into something cool I might use it.

Not sure what to make of Tapu Koko. Wait...isn't that the guardian of the first island or something like that? That's...kinda underwhelming.

And Bruxish...I kinda like Bruxish. I don't know, that smile just makes me smile for some reason. It's similar to the feeling I get when the smaller of my two cats hisses, it makes me giggle because she is trying to be threatening but is too cute to pull it off.

@Anti-Matter There will be past Pokemon in the game, but not all of them. If the one you want isn't, you'll have to trade it over from another game.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Sets Criteria to Turn Nintendo's Virtual Reality Research Into a Product

Allspice

I have no interest in VR, mostly because I know it will make me motion sick. They need to find a way to minimize that before I'll even consider it.

It is also very expensive. If you want the best experience there is right now, you would need to go with the Vive...which is $800 (the Rift is cheaper at $600, but I wouldn't buy anything from Facebook. They've already talked publicly about how they want to integrate ads into the thing). And that's on top of the cost of a top of the line computer with the latest tech because anything else will not be powerful enough to run the games properly. So we're talking...maybe between $3,000 to $6,000 just to have a peripheral that doesn't even have any major games yet.

Re: Vivendi Continues To Gobble Up Ubisoft, Bit By Bit

Allspice

@BulbasaurusRex It's not game quality I'm talking about, they do release decent games. I'm talking about their actions. Review embargoes, always online DRM, microtransactions in full price $60 titles, Uplay, outright lying even after they were caught lying (look up TotalBiscuit's videos on Watch_Dogs for more on that) etc. Blatant anti-consumer practices like those are the things that make them one of the worst. EA gets torn apart for doing some of those same things, why shouldn't Ubisoft?

Re: Vivendi Continues To Gobble Up Ubisoft, Bit By Bit

Allspice

Considering the state Ubisoft's games are released in and the overall disdain they show for their customers, I can't imagine Vivendi taking over changing anything. Ubisoft has been hands down one of the worst publishers in gaming for quite some time but for some strange reason they always seem to get a pass.

Re: Rhythm Paradise Megamix Is Getting Physical In Europe

Allspice

I am so annoyed by this. Rhythm Heaven is awesome and I wanted a physical version but nope. Ugh. This is why I go back and forth on which one I prefer, the 3DS or Vita, because the Vita isn't region locked! If this was on Vita, I could just buy it from Amazon UK or something.

I swear if Style Savvy 3 is also digital only over here, I'm just going to buy a PAL 3DS and those two games.

Re: Reminder: Vans X Nintendo Collection Won't Be Around for Long

Allspice

I liked a couple things enough that I went ahead and bought some. Just a couple of the Princess Peach stuff, shirts and a pair of slip ons since I don't have any anymore. Personally I'm more of a Skechers kind of girl and have been for years, but I'll give Vans a try. They're a good brand.

Re: The Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog Are Inducted Into the World Video Game Hall of Fame

Allspice

Grand Theft Auto III

I've never played any of them and I'm not overly familiar with it so I have no comment on this one.

The Legend of Zelda

I've seen people play through this game and...it's aged horribly. It does not look like it is worth playing at this point. However, It's influence is undeniable and it deserves it's place here regardless.
I still haven't gotten around to playing any of them. I'm going to get to A Link to the Past eventually. That's the one I want to start with.

The Oregon Trail

I love this game. I played it in school (I imagine most American kids my age did) and I still play it now, it's truly timeless.

The Sims

Sul sul! I never played the first one, but I've played 2, 3 and 4. I wasn't the biggest fan of 2 but I love 3 and 4. I'm pretty sure it is still the highest selling franchise on PC.

Sonic the Hedgehog

I am not the biggest fan of the first game, but Sonic 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. When I was little, I got my first console: a Genesis and Sonic 2 was the first game I played on it. Sonic was a huge influence on the industry, not just within his own genre. He helped put Sega on almost even footing with Nintendo on a global scale, something their previous mascot Alex Kidd couldn't do. His recent titles may be hit (Sonic Colors/Sonic Generations) or miss (Sonic '06/Sonic Boom: RoL) but there is no denying the high quality of the early titles.

Space Invaders

I don't have much to say about this one. It's Space Invaders.

Re: Review: Pocket Card Jockey (3DS eShop)

Allspice

@Freelance Absolutely! I got that feeling in every horse racing game I've played. It is just a awesome knowing you nailed it and everything came together, especially when it's a horse you bred. I get the feeling when favorite IRL horse wins as well.

Re: Review: Pocket Card Jockey (3DS eShop)

Allspice

I've been looking forward to this since it was announced, played the demo, and now that it's out I have been playing it all day. It is so much fun.

I think it's mostly a skill based game, however the biggest problem with it (for me) is it puts your horse in GIs when it has no business being there. You can still win (I rarely place out of the top 5 anyway and I've won at least 1 GI with every horse I've had), but even the game basically says you did the best you could, your horse just wasn't strong enough. There should be lower tier races for the horses to grow in before taking on the biggest races.

Regardless, I still really like this game...though that was probably very obvious. XD I think if you're on the fence, give the demo a try. It does a good job of showing what the racing part of the game will be like.

Re: Review: Paranautical Activity (Wii U eShop)

Allspice

I've heard of this game. It's the one that was taken off Steam because one of the devs was so frustrated with Valve he said he wanted to kill Gabe Newell on twitter. I both felt bad for the guy and facepalmed at the same time. From what I heard about it, he was absolutely right to be upset but he shouldn't have said what he did. :/

On the game itself: not the kind of game I go for. I passed on it on PC, I'll skip it on Wii U as well.

Re: Poll: Are You Confident About Nintendo's 3DS Focus for 2016?

Allspice

It's showing it's age (and it was never a technical powerhouse to begin with) but it's still a great system and the little guy has been vital to Nintendo the last couple years.

It still has some life left with (off the top of my head) Kirby Planet Robobot, Shin Megami Tensei: Apocalypse, Pokemon Sun/Moon, 7th Dragon III Code: VFD, Dragon Quest VII/VIII, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, and Monster Hunter Generations releasing this year.

Hopefully Style Savvy 3 and Yokai Watch 2 will come over this year too.

Re: Poll: NX and Mobile Make This a Defining Year for Nintendo - Are You Optimistic?

Allspice

@IceClimbers IMO that would be even worse. Sony isn't exactly doing very well. IIRC Sony's only division making a profit is the PlayStation division. They have been struggling for years. No one is buying their various electronics anymore, they have moved on to other brands. Sony is lucky Microsoft and Nintendo took such big missteps this gen, that's the only reason they "won".

@VanillaLake Successful? Yes. Profitable? No. As a whole they still haven't made a profit with their gaming division. By that I mean the money they put into creating the Xbox/360/One.

And yes, I completely agree. All three of them get pretty arrogant when they win. I still facepalm when I think about the things Sony said about the $600 price tag on the PS3...something like "people will get second jobs just to buy one" or something. Ugh.

Re: Poll: NX and Mobile Make This a Defining Year for Nintendo - Are You Optimistic?

Allspice

@VanillaLake TBH I would expect Microsoft to pull out of making consoles before Nintendo. Their gaming division has never been profitable and some of their executives have expressed a desire to sell off the Xbox brand.

I personally don't want any of the big three to exit the console business. Competition is a good thing. I'm still sad Sony won't make another handheld. I love the Vita, it could have been a hit outside of Japan if Sony had even remotely tried to make it one. The 3DS succeeded only because Nintendo knuckled down and refused to give up on it.

Re: Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

Allspice

@VanillaLake "Yeah, you're right, but mediocre is not bad, mediocre is ordinary, not very good or great. I can love a mediocre game as long as I love the genre and I love its strengths, if you know what I mean."

True. I just work on a slightly different scale because I really don't like the trend of 9s and 10s being given out like candy these days. 7s and even 6s shouldn't be considered an insult to the game. For example...I remember when one of the reviewers at GameSpot dared to give GTA V a 9/10. She was flamed really hard and gamers tried to get her fired for her criticisms of the game.

@Vee_Flames "I get that, but he misrepresented the information from DF. The analysis video shows that SFZ frame rates drop to a minimum of 40 or so, not as low as 20 to 25. So I don't know where that came from..."

No, @Yorumi said it drops 20 to 25fps, which is what the video showed (it drops from 60 to 40, a difference of 20fps). From what I saw though, it doesn't seem like it would be much of a problem during gameplay because even though there was slowdown, it wasn't chugging. It recovered pretty quickly. At least, that was how it looked during the footage they showed.

Re: Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

Allspice

@VanillaLake "I said 70 is mediocre in my book."

70 is mediocre to you? Mediocre to me is between 50 and 60. I guess it goes to show that numbers truly don't mean anything because they mean different things to everyone.

Re: Pocket Card Jockey Comes to the 3DS This May

Allspice

I don't generally buy digital games on console but I think I'll make an exception for this one...I love horse racing and I like solitaire. There aren't many horse racing games out there (for the west anyway) so I'll take what I can get.
