Bigger than Zelda and Mario Odyssey? I don't see that as even remotely possible even if Pokemon and Metroid release. I'd be delighted to eat my words, though.
I know it's just a rough demo but I'm not seeing anything particularly fresh or exciting about it. I enjoyed the Rogue Squadron games, but they did become repetitive after awhile. I wish they'd given more info about how they would approach missions and what new ideas they'd have introduced. Endless dogfights get old.
They need a there minute Nintendo Direct: announce a full-fledged Pokemon with full online capability tournaments, and matchmaking for Switch, step back, and watch the internet explode.
Having watched the videos on YouTube, I'm not sure why there's so much love for the Rebirth series. Maybe the gameplay is really good? The graphics look really poor, though the music is pretty neat. I'd much rather see them release the original console versions with updated audio, but that seems unlikely.
I can't believe those guys talked about the statue, but mostly the game itself, for a full hour. It would have been much more interesting to hear details about how the statue was crafted and why something that looks pretty simple is worth $300. Compare this to virtually anything that WETA Workshop cranks out near the same price and I honestly can't see the value in something that looks like a blown-up Amibo. Not released until Q3 2018, either.
Slap a display onto a controller housing and pop in a cheap SOC running an emulator and call it done. Ugh. Plenty of YT videos under "N64 Portable" and many that look more polished. Back to the drawing board!
Hey, as long as HAMSTER keeps cranking out obscure arcade titles I'm happy, even if I don't buy them. I enjoy watching the YT channel of a couple guys (Dave and Joe) at GameSack and they have a continuing series about arcade games that never made it to the home consoles. If HAMSTER mines those gems, I'll be delighted to pick up a lot of them.
Now, this one HAS been ported before but it gives me hope.
Still a shame that Nintendo didn't buy the Banjo-Kazooie IP from Rare before they sold to Microsoft. MS is NOT a company whose gamers gravitate towards cartoony platformers, but Nintendo is. Sigh.
Glad I bought the DLC and hoping that Nintendo releases another Zelda on Switch with this engine or announces a second DLC pack. Easily my favorite game of all time, bar none.
I'm sure I'll open XB2. Thought of grabbing Skyrim but couldn't pull the trigger. Nice to know that I have something to look forward to if I change my mind.
I'm getting to the point that I resent BOTW. It's so damned good that it's ruined me for other games. I have Xenoblade 2 sitting unopened on my dresser as I contemplate whether to open it or restart Zelda again.
Man I'm getting tired of these B- and C-level Steam and mobile ports. Junk. Junk. Junk. They figure that Switch players are desperate enough for these games that we'll buy them immediately. Nope.
Might we hope that Hamster moves on to port all of the IREM arcade titles eventually? I'd LOVE arcade perfect ports of the R-Type games as well as Image Fight, Moon Patrol, Air Duel and many others. IREM and Data East were some of my favorite arcade developers.
So very tempted. I wish it were physical. I fear that they'll slap a $50 price on it but if it's reasonable I'll probably bite. I'd love to see Rare resurrected in some fashion and Playtonic has that potential. (Wishful thinking?)
Ugh. I knew when I clicked on the video that the graphics would be bland, vector-based, and basic. What is it with these little studios that they can't afford to hire decent graphic designers? The core game play might be good, but the graphics are so off-putting I'd never bother to give it a try.
I can guarantee a NL score of 4-6, tops. Personal guess is five.
Saw that picture on the landing page and for a brief moment I thought it was a screen from the upcoming Zelda expansion. Then I read the headline and my shoulders slumped.
He didn't say "only" two years, he said a "minimum" which means he thinks it will be at least, but probably more than, two years from now. And the original PS4 and XB1 were released in 2013 and the current upgrades (Pro and One X) are still using the same architecture. That would mean that each of them would have been on the market for six years at minimum, but more likely seven. That's a pretty good lifespan, assuming the Ubisoft guy is even correct.
D-pads can be very, very hit and miss. They all LOOK good, but very few, other than--for example--8Bitdo's pads, can approach the quality and feel of Nintendo's pads.
Come on, Nintendo! There's a pile of money to be made by releasing "proper" D-pad L & R Joycons as accessories.
I'm guessing that Sonic Forces is going to debut to terrible reviews. That they kept review codes from websites like this one until release day is a terrible, terrible sign. (If I were to guess it's because they're hoping to get a rush of day-one sales before the negative reviews hit.)
Looking forward to NLife's view, though I don't expect it to be higher than a six.
@BlueOcean "... why they don't consider releasing their bigger games on more platforms?"
Because a large part of Nintendo's allure is that you can ONLY get their AAA titles on their systems. That way, they can also ensure a revenue stream from licensing 3rd party titles and they have more control over the user experience. This is also why Sony and Microsoft continue to release consoles; it's all about control.
The day Nintendo starts releasing its games on rival platforms--other than mobile, which really isn't the same audience--is the day they go the way of SEGA. I hope that never, ever happens.
I wonder why Nintendo didn't release the basic Mario Run game as a complete, free download and then tack-on outfits to spice up the gameplay? Put the Tanooki, Frog Mario, Raccoon Mario, and many other outfits (including Cappy) in as $1.49 or $1.99 add-ons?
The rule of drug dealing (and online gaming) is to get them hooked and THEN reel them in with extras, not charge up front. I know they don't want to compete with their handheld business, but endless runners like Mario Run are a natural for phone gaming but almost useless on true handheld consoles like the Switch.
Learn from your mistakes, Nintendo, and I think you can find a very profitable niche. (Why there isn't yet a Mario Party, Doctor Mario, or Yoshi's Cookie I have no idea.)
@AlexOlney Fair enough. But for games that ask me to invest time to build worlds, unless there's a "Hard Mode" that encourages repeat play (BotW), I'd rather wait a little bit for the finished product and get busy.
I'm not an AC fan, per se, and have absolutely ZERO games on my phone--I much prefer dedicated gaming systems with actual buttons--but this one has me intrigued. If I'm going to invest, it's going to be in the full-bore release version.
But if it floats your boat, weigh anchor my friend.
I'm old. Why is the music in these video so loud? And who are these children? They really should have use a celebrity like MC Hammer or Hulk Hogan to promote it rather than these kids. And what's with all the violence?
With the Amazon discount to $50, plus the resale value someday, I can't figure out why anyone (at least those that have Amazon Prime) would even consider a digital copy. So many reasons not to go digital these days.
"We also have researched many other Switch™ dock/adapter on Amazon and we found that customer not only need an adapter but also want a dock for Switch™.
It'll get there. Nintendo is always very, very slow to make changes. Their fans will always allow them the time they need, though, because in the end their games are worth it. I don't need my Switch to play Netflix, keep track of achievements, or even provide in-game chat options (as much as I know many would like that) as long as games like BotW and Mario are on its platform.
As others have said, though, give me the Virtual Console and a run of good games and I'm happy.
I'll never tire of outstanding 16-bit pixel art. Even the retro games of today rarely approach the craftsmanship of the stuff produced in the '90's. Just like the movies, when the technology is more limited the artists are forced to be that much more creative to overcome their limitations. Really great looking game I'd love to play someday.
BTW, what makes that thing a "Picnic Truck?" Looks like the guy (or couple of guys) that made this game bought art assets from a royalty-free shop and plugged them into an engine they designed. An ACTUAL food truck that with a gatling gun that pops out under the awning (or the sales window) would have been nifty. This? Not.

Re: It's Going To Be Hard To Resist These Super Mario 3 Pin Badges
For $240 it would be cheaper to just buy a low-cost 3D printer and make your own.

There's at least a Fire Flower model on Yeggi.

Creating a pin base and then doing a 3D extrusion of a pixel art image to layer on top of it would be nothing at all.
