You know, I wouldn't mind an indigo version of the Switch at some point. It really is a fetching color and would really stand out in handheld mode as well.
not really. I started as a temp in customer service that year. Was really fun for many years because Nintendo spent freely on its service. Those were the pre-internet days where game counselors would walk you throgh games like Lolo for the cost of a long distance call. It was a fun place to work with some really nice people.
As long as we're wishing, I'd drop money right now on arcade-perfect ports of Slap Fight (Toaplan) and Assault (Atari). NLife reported that M2 had the rights to Toaplan's catalog in 2019 but...nada.
@Shiro28 Isn't that the truth? Aside from Halo and Forza, have their first-party titles established them as a game studio on Nintendo or Sony's level? I've always looked at MS as a hardware company that is very dependent upon 3rd parties, strong hardware, and deep pockets to remain competitive with Sony. For all of the wonderful Rare IP's, even with the departure of the Stamper Brothers, they seem to have the reverse-Midas touch. I'm glad they haven't had the opportunity to buy Nintendo so far.
I really wish the GBA version had been allowed, as it was the clear winner but I held my nose and picked the Japanese version.
How can you look at the US/EU version and not cringe at the impossible anatomy of the knight with the elbow that bends the wrong way? Ouch! On a positive note, the zombies in the background remind me of the ape in the classic arcade game, Toki...
For those wondering if there will be a physical version, it appears the answer is "Yes." I've found a listing on Gamestop's U.S. page for just such an item.
I'm old enough to have loved it on its release for the Genesis. And as the article says, it was an incredibly fun two-player game. My friends and I played it for hours. The ability to switch between RTS and action (morphing between a jet and a mech to destroy automated enemy units) made it very unique. If it comes to the U.S., I'll definitely pick it up.
I'm not sure why folks like the Japanese art so much. It's extremely poor. The perspectives are wrong and the color blending and application is awful. I've seen art students, let alone professionals, turn out better work. At least the European and U.S. artists had a modicum of talent. Yeesh.
At least the artist was smart enough to hide the pilot's hands and feet, notoriously difficult to draw properly, because they probably couldn't. That's something, I suppose.
@Brokai Except it's not really "retro" at all. They are using minimalist designs for the characters, but high-res artwork for the battles and backgrounds. it's schizophrenic, at best.
I'm sure this won't get read by the original author, but the sentiment that "Nintendo is too cheap" to include additional memory is false. CONSUMERS pay the price in either case. Including additional storage up-front increases the base price of the unit. Nintendo wanted a system it could sell for $299. Moving from 32GB--at the time--to any other size would have mandated a higher base price. Consumers are extremely cost-conscious and there is a lot of research to determine the cut-off point.
I regularly read Arstechnica and I can't tell you how many times I've heard readers complain about the lack of expandable storage on phones. People love expansion options for portable devices. IMO, the use of external SD cards--many of which can be bought on discount at any given time--makes for a vastly more flexible system than fixing a 128GB+ drive in the hardware.
The Switch is well-designed. If I'm going to pay for memory either way, I'd rather choose when and where I can do so.
I've been looking at early screens of XBOX Series X games, like the Gollum game, and what I'm seeing doesn't look like a massive leap beyond what we're getting right now. Some of that comes from the fact that developing hyper-realistic games is expensive and very time-consuming.
I think that as time goes on, the visuals produced by future generations of the Switch and the other systems will converge. Not that CPUs and GPUs won't get immensely more powerful, but rather that the balance between realism and the need to put product on shelves will converge, leading to smaller and smaller real-world differences.
I love my Switch as it is. It's all I need in a console and it could go on another five years with high-quality titles and I'd be happy. BOTW is, in my long lifetime, the best and most amazing game I've ever played. As long as Nintendo remains devoted to producing games like that, we've nothing to worry about.
NOA's site still says April 30th. It seems as though there's some misinformation, but I'd probably take that date to the bank. My guess is that some or much of the Nintendo News app is tied to a calendar tool and that the automated tool that posts game release updates is just posting that erroneous info.
I don't see a curtain of distance fog, draw in, or three or four extremely blurry textures stretched over everything, all the color of poo. No, sorry, nice try.
@nessisonett I have no idea why so many are saying they want to play it. The Push Square review not only savages it, but it highlights some really disturbing material in the game play. Why anyone would want to waste $60 on a title that's this bad, especially on Switch, beggars belief. It makes me wonder if it's the very prurient stuff that the Push Square's article mentions that has some of the folks here salivating...
I pre-ordered mine a year ago but I'm not worried if I don't get it this month. What I am still surprised and a little bummed about is that they didn't include Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. It's a weird little title that was a pack-in when I bought the TG-16 in the U.S. Was it good? No. But nostalgia is a powerful thing. Still, the TG-16 had some really enjoyable games and I'll be glad to have one of the Minis of my own at some point.
I'd 100% buy a Nintendo repro system that actually WORKED to play cartridges, and I'd do what x100 for a SNES. All they'd need to do is add an HDMI port and we'd be golden.
Good lord, she's a young woman who happens to like AC and acts in movies. Folks that get all wrapped up in her political views--in which it's OKAY to have a strong opinion--need to put down the pitchforks and just enjoy the silliness that a new AC release brings. Larson's "one of you" in that area, if not others. Good grief.
@Tykut It looks like the percentage has increased between 2011 and 2020. Graphs, especially those with large graduations, are a little difficult to generate precise figures from but overall head count in 2011 appears to be 130 employees while 2020 appears to be 170. 30 were women in 2011 and 50 in 2020. That means women were about 23% of the workforce then and 29% now. Not explosive growth, and it dipped to 21% in 2015, but it's something...
It's essentially Xevious with an F-14, no powerups, and music to beat a dead cat by. They must have had a good bag of "medicinal herbs" from Canada when they threw the dart at the wall to select this title to release.
This is the kind of shooter so exciting you'll fall asleep before the first boss.
@Mooj738
"We're looking at our options on the Nintendo Switch. It's an intriguing platform and we are always evaluating which titles will be a good fit. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm rather busy drowning some puppies in a sack in my bathtub."
Mixed reviews on Steam. Not great, not terrible. One significant positive, imo, is that there isn't a "Switch Tax" that I can see. Assuming "includes all previously-released DLC" means what I think it does this would be the equivalent of Steam's "Deluxe Edition" which goes for $42 right now.
I have only the Switch and when the PS5 and next XBOX arrive I'll STILL only have a Switch. For some of us, it's only Zelda, Metroid, and other Nintendo titles that matter. I stopped hardcore gaming decades ago and the kind of games on Switch are perfect for me.
Nintendo seems to have withdrawn from the "power wars" that Sony amd Microsoft seem to be obsessed with. And Nintendo is wildly profitable finding its own niche. They realized that it was pointless to continue to dump tons of R&D into expensive hardware that's only marginally different and the Switch was their brilliant answer.
So no, I don't care about any "power gap" because the games I've enjoyed on Switch are pretty enough for me. Great games, good hardware, and I'm happy.
@ArmoredGoomba It's just such an odd loyalty program. We've all said it ad nauseum, but the entire premise of Nintendo's loyalty program is archaic and borderline useless. Image files based on advertising artwork that cost points? Discounts only on games for systems either no longer commercially available (Wii-U) or greatly in decline (3Ds). And precious few physical items for sale.
I continue to wonder if Nintendo were to eliminate them altogether, whether anyone would even notice or not. I have my doubts.
Rather than speculate, wouldn't it have been easier to just email NOA's or NOE's PR department and confirm your suspicions? Right now, it can go either way. I'm sure that they're eager to get as much info out there as possible to get people excited for the game.
@impurekind Why? A pre-order is free and can be canceled if, when you see the final list, you're not satisfied. History indicates that if you wait too long you'll have difficulty getting your hands on one of these retro consoles, unless Sega floods the market with them.
So far, even with this short list, the only disappointment is that they went with the "classic" three-button rather than six-button design for the controller.
Hard to believe anyone would pay that much for $200 shoes with some crappy patches sewn on the tongues and heels with a smidge of paint here and there. Something about fools and their money I suppose.
$60 for a re-issue with so little extra is too much for me. While I never finished it on the Wii-U because I HATED HATED HATED the forced use of motion controls and the mic, and I'd like to really play it someday, I'll wait the five years it'll take until Nintendo re-issues it as a "classic" for $20.
