After a number of missteps in the past under different names, it felt like The Game Awards 2014 were a success. For one thing we got to check out quite a bit of Nintendo goodness including a look at The Legend of Zelda on Wii U, but beyond that it was primarily focused on games and their creators as opposed to dodgy attempts at comedy.
Ahead of this year's awards on 3rd December producer Geoff Keighley has already been talking of improvements, including cutting the broadcast to about two hours (instead of three) and focusing more on the awards themselves with a few less World Premiere trailers. We're hoping Nintendo will be involved again as it was last year, too, with Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime once again named as one of a number of executive-level consultants.
Beyond that music will feature, though, with Koji Kondo making a memorable appearance in 2014. This year's show should be pretty good on this score, obviously depending on taste, as CHVURCHES and deadmau5 are confirmed acts; this writer thinks that's a pretty strong line-up.
There's a video focused on the announcement below. We'll be livestreaming and blogging the event again this year; will you be watching?

Maybe Chvrches will do something video gamey!? That'd be awesome.
CHVRCHES is great, good choice by the game awards.
It sucks being old. I have no clue who CHVRCHES is.
Sweet, maybe now I can get my wife to watch the game awards. She loves chvrches almost as much as I love pronouncing their name wrong (cha-vurches? chiver-cheese?)
Love Chvrches
Wasn't deadmau5 at E3 2014?
I don't really know the dj guy, but CHVRCHES' debut record is not of the best things I've ever heard. I also have a ridiculous crush on Lauren.
This is me and @ExtraVinegary right now.
Everyone loves Chvrches and flips out...
Lone person doesn't know what Chvrches is...
I've never heard of Chvrches before...
Niceeee CHVRCHES are from Glasgow too so it's good to see them doing pretty big events.
@Captain_Toad Not just a lone person. Can't say I've ever heard of them either, but the V instead of a U in their name annoys me somewhat. Either way, they'll either be popular music gubbins or "indie" (I hate using that word), neither of which I like. Then again, it's not really aimed at me.
...Man, I sound so old.
I've only listened to the few songs on their EP, but I enjoy what I've heard of Chvrches. If you haven't heard them, you should give it a listen:

Just like any form of media, it really all depends on your personal tastes.
Did Chvrches learn from the mistake Nintendo make when naming the Wii U?
Being middle aged, I don't understand why interjecting the letter v in your title is cool.
Not interested in either of them. In fact, I'm hardly interested in hearing about awards for games I already enjoy. I only care about any new content we might hear about from Nintendo. Sure, I want Nintendo games to win, but it's really not a big deal.
@DiscoGentleman @ExtraVinegary @Captain_Toad @GloverMist Count me in guys....sigh
Nevertheless, ive heard worse. But stuff like that will never find its way onto my playlist
Never heard of either of them...
Never heard of Chvrches, and I don't care for dubstep or whatever it is that the other does. Guess I'll be muting the stream at a few points, assuming I watch live after the slog of last year's event.
I saw Chi-vurches live and found them super-disappointing, and I don't know how great it would be seeing Deadmao-five live either, considering he's just standing there pressing play.
Weirdly enough, I love both of their music, it's just... not that performable I guess.
All of y'all neverheards, go check out "The Mother We Share", that was Chvrches' big single a couple of years ago. As for DeadMau5, I always loved his song that was in the nightclub in the Goldeneye remake, "I Remember".
Where exactly can I watch the game awards,Twitch?
@DiscoGentleman Don't ever take me to a disco. You won't even get me out on the flo'.
Yeah, I never heard of chvrches either, and I've head of deadmau5 but have no idea who they are.
Never heard of either acts and likely will never will again after this article. Sorry, but Koji Kondo is an impossible act to follow. They'll have to try harder than this! Even Anamanaguchi woulda made more sense, to me at least.
Chvches are an amazing synth-prog-pop band.
People who like smart and well crafted electronic music or are fans of classic new wave should definitely check them out.
This is coming from someone who grew up on American classic rock, metal, punk, prog, and grunge!
@ExtraVinegary Ditto, although I'm a teen.
@MrGawain Many bands have been replacing U's with V's lately and I think I read somewhere that it might be to separate the band name from the actual thing. Try googling Churches and Chvrches and compare the results... Well actually since they are a big band now maybe the results aren't thst different haha.
Man, I really love Chvrches latest album. It's catchy as hell. the game awards are going to be good this year
