@NewAdvent There's a difference between a third-party accessory and a licensed third-party accessory with official Nintendo branding. Inverted commas aren't necessary with Hori.
@NF6429 What does the casting of this have to do with anything? In your head, you probably think Rita Ora's casting means this film is going to be garbage, because she's not a 'real' actress, or because Fast & Furious/Fifty Shades of Grey are not 'proper' movies.
This has pretty much zero to do with anything though, you compare it to the Emoji Movie which has Patrick Stewart in it for god's sake! We don't even know what her role is.
Detective Pikachu will live and die by its writing, not the actors.
@faint Even so, what's the story? An Animal Crossing game might be coming in the near future, or it might not be? Okay. I already knew that. It's animal crossing. Even though the mainline series skipped the Wii U, I can promise you that Nintendo are always doing something internally with that franchise.
Can we just ban articles about trademark filings? Unless it's a trademark for a specific name for a specific game with a specific subtitle, then they mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. We're definitely not seeing Wave Race or Eternal Darkness sequels in the near future just because Nintendo didn't want to lose rights to those names.
@Mahe Yup! Nintendo Life are notorious for not reporting on negative Nintendo news, that's why they shut down between 2012 and 2016 while Wii U was out.
@Savino To wave away the success of DS and Wii as a 'stroke of luck' does a tremendous disservice to the hard work and genius of hundreds of Nintendo employees.
The arrogance to think that you know better, when you don't know a damn thing is astounding. I might respect your opinion when you're president of Nintendo, but until then, nah.
@Korosanbo It really doesn't mean anything. The Wii U microphone is a pretty bog standard USB mic. I guess Nintendo still has some leftover stock and doesn't want to go to the trouble of rebranding the microphones.
@gcunit In terms of price, it's actually far superior to any other karaoke offering you'll find on console in terms of sheer number of songs. For example, Let's Sing for Switch just released at £44.99. It comes with a microphone and 30 songs. Even if you loved those 30 songs, you'll only get a few nights of fun from the game before the song selection becomes stale and boring.
I'd much rather pay a few quid every time I want to do karaoke and then have such a massive library that I never have to repeat the same song.
@DarkScythe13 For me personally, I'd say that Quiplash XL and Fibbage 2 are the only worthwhile games on Party Pack 2 (Bidiots is okay every once in a while). And considering that there's already a Quiplash included in Jackbox 3, and there's been no announcement for Drawful 2 on Switch, I'd have to say that Jackbox 1 and 3 is the best pair to get for Nintendo Switch.
How is removing the 3D feature an opportunity to increase battery life? Nintendo decided to save on weight instead of creating a new, beefier battery. By using the same 3DS battery it has made abundant use of in all of its iteration (plus the Wii U and Switch Pro Controllers) it can save on extra cost too. The battery life was always going to be the same as a New 3DS XL that has 3D switched off.
This comment comes off as quite angry but it isn't supposed to be. It's a somewhat reasonable comment to have been made, but I do kind of question the logic.
@antonvaltaz No analogue triggers. Even if Nintendo made the Gamecube adaptor compatible with the Switch, it would only be selling its games to a fraction of the audience it could be. Some games would still work without analogue triggers, but the ones that do would require significant reworking compared to any other VC release.
This is definitely on my radar. It looks to be fantastic Metroidvania with a gorgeous artstyle. The only nitpick I have from that trailer is that the sound effects seem a bit weak? It all just sounds a little bit generic, closer to a flash game than a polished indie release. That really is just a tiny tiny nitpick though, and I only bring it up because it's an area of game design that's oft overlooked.
This isn't really worth an article, is it? Konami Europe doesn't have the power to announce anything, nor are they developing anything themselves. What did we get out of this? Super Bomberman R may or may not get more updates after the scheduled update; Castlevania may or may not get a new game in the franchise. What a scoop.
@Doc_Brown Not criticising you/calling you out specifically, but it's interesting that so many gamers share your outlook (although i'm aware many also don't). Is there no such thing as a timeless video game? People have been playing the same card games/board games for decades and nobody really seems to complain when a new version of Monopoly comes out. People haven't stopped playing Solitaire just because it's old.
I realise it's a false equivalency in some ways to compare computer games and card games, but it's still interesting to think about why these things are viewed differently.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I can understand no Splatoon 2, since that doesn't really have any splitscreen local multiplayer options from what we know, but the lack of ARMS is really confusing...
@timoneiro_feup Maybe not relevant for the Switch eShop, but a lot of indie developers do purposefully overprice their games. The reason being, most people don't even think about buying them until they're in the sales. If an indie prices their game at what they think is a fair price, but the majority of sales occur at a 30%, 50% or even 70% discount, their revenue becomes severely stunted.
As I say, we've had basically no sales on the Switch eShop thus far, so it really makes no sense for this game to be as expensive as it is. Looks nowhere near interesting enough to purchase. Around £5 would give it the kind of impulse buy appeal that has lead to Kamiko staying in the charts for so long.
@PlywoodStick An extra dock is not a basic accessory by any stretch of the imagination.
It also seems naive for any of us to make claims about how much this really costs Nintendo to design and manufacture. That also goes for people saying the price is fair.
Truth is, none of us know how Nintendo run their business. All we can do is look at the product in front of us and ask ourselves, "is the ability to dock my Nintendo Switch into another TV at any time without hassle worth £80 to me?". I say it's not. Most would probably agree, but some might disagree. Nintendo are in this to make money, so they'll react to the market accordingly regarding price. There's no way these docks will stay at this price forever. Granted, that is annoying for someone who wanted one as soon as possible.
@greengecko007 Yeah that probably would have annoyed me too. The only game console related hardware failure I've ever experienced was with the original PS2. (but that might have been because I dropped it...)
I also got my Wii U as a Christmas gift, which understandably eliminates any sense of feeling ripped off I could have possibly had.
@Yorumi Well your mileage will vary based on how you use the Switch. For me, I've just not bought any 2D sidescrollers (read: Shovel Knight) because the d-pad isn't satisfactory for that purpose. I'm really not picky when it comes to my controllers. There's a lot of whinging online about button placement/size etc. for any controller you care to mention, but I find the joycon to be perfectly serviceable (as well as any game controller I've ever used by the big 3).
I don't play a lot of tabletop mode away from home so I've not needed a stand, but there are lots of third party stands out there for less than £10 which seems reasonable to me.
The only accessory that is 100% necessary if you're ever going to take it outside is a case, but the Switch is robust enough that a cheap one will do.
@greengecko007 Completely agree on your first paragraph. The outrage some people have make it appear like Nintendo is holding a gun to their head forcing them to buy things. Don't agree with prices? Don't purchase. Sure, you may want the thing, but you should have the willpower to resist.
I get people who feel 'shafted' by Wii U, but I've never been able to empathise. I think I had pretty reasonable expectations going into it and never felt Nintendo let me down on software.
I just don't buy what I deem to be poor value for money. That's why I still don't have a Pro Controller, but I do have a second pair of joycons, because I got Snipperclips bundled at no extra cost, and now I can do 4 player Mario Kart.
I never had any interest in a second dock because I only have one TV.
In the UK, 90% of the accessories/games seem to be priced 10-20% too high, so I'll just wait for sales.
The $5 empty box seems like a decent price honestly, considering the alternative of buying an entire new system.
@Untempered-Link Nintendo are offering slightly more with their package, so I reckon it works out roughly the same as Apple. Nothing to boast about, but still. Amazon also seem to have priced some of their Nintendo Switch accessories above the Official Nintendo Store, so if we're hopeful, it may be cheaper yet.
@Yorumi That may have been the case for only the very first couple of updates that occurred close to, or a few weeks from launch. The vast majority of content updates in Splatoon had to be downloaded from the internet. In summary, you're argument is misleading.
Regardless, you don't have to buy the game at launch. Wait for reviews, look at the content yourself. Do you think 10 fighters, 4000 combinations of arms, several different modes and a handful of stages is enough? If not, wait. If it is, then that's great. It's not like the game will be incomplete in the sense it is broken at launch.
@ieatdragonz Development time and budget usually go hand-in-hand. The longer people are working on it, the more you have to pay those people. You could have a long development time and a small budget, but that just means a very small team of people working on it, which doesn't really sound like what everyone wants.
@RedMageLanakyn "Numbers mean nothing". What on earth? This is a 'talking point' specifically about Nintendo's recently released sales figures. Numbers mean everything! Numbers are entirely the point!
