I'm only part way through (I think I'm on chapter 5 or 6?) but I'm absolutely loving it so far. I understand the concerns about the free-to-play aspect, but I think that's entirely fair; it is a free game after all. I've certainly found that you can get a decent number of orbs by just playing daily, and there are many more to be gotten through My Nintendo. I dislike the fact it has to be constantly connected, but that's really been my only gripe with it so far.
I thought the presentation itself was pretty awful (especially with those horrific translators; what the hell happened there?), but the stuff they showed for me was a mixed bag. Zelda and Mario look amazing and I like the look of the console itself, but the price and launch lineup was very disappointing.
I really love the NES Mini controller as is (aside from cable length of course), it's one of my favourite parts about the system. Unless those controllers feel as good if not better, I'm not that interested.
It would be hilarious(ly depressing) if Zelda Picross (that title is too long to type out...) won best eShop game of the year.
I also think the AC:NL Welcome Amiibo update deserves at least a shoutout/honourable mention; it really made an enormous difference to the game and is the reason I've been replaying it pretty much daily since it came out.
As much as my initial reaction is "Why is it first being shown on flipping Jimmy Fallon?", it does make sense; with a bit of luck this will really help Nintendo with marketing. (and hopefully they'll continue with other marketing stuff like this!!)
And obviously the Switch looks amazing, as we all thought it would!
Just wanted to second everything else people have said... I don't have much to add really, but to the lovely person who did this: you are kind and generous, so thank you and Merry Christmas!
I've got it; I'm looking forward to testing it properly later but at a glance it seems good for me at least. It seems like it kind of screws over the people who aren't in large cities with loads of Pokestops though... but for us Londoners, hooray!
I thought the Animal Crossing direct implied (at a MASSIVE stretch) that a New Leaf port was in the works. Obviously it's pure speculation, but it does seem odd to update a game that's more than 3 years old on a console they're about to replace; and it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to launch the Switch with a New Leaf port. We'll see I guess!
I think Mario Kart looks new, and I'm guessing the Splatoon game will be as well. My best guess is that they're running off a similar engine and the games themselves are fairly similar to MK8/Splatoon. But who knows, could be massive updates/DLC I guess!
Looking forward to trying this as soon as it rolls out to Android; I'm still playing semi-regularly (though admittedly I joined slightly after everyone else) and enjoying it.
@DoctorOverbuild @Serebii Seconded; obviously I don't know him personally but the work he does for Pokemon is brilliant. (and nothing I have seen of him suggests he's not a nice person in real life either!)
The US stuff is okay, but the UK stuff is appaling, there's basically nothing. Hopefully some more stuff will appear later, otherwise this'll be very disappointing.
Snap, there are Star Fox demos? Definitely downloading them; I definitely want to get Guard but am not 100% sold on Zero yet, so will be glad to be able to try it out first.
2 million seems a lot; didn't Splatoon only hit 1 million recently? (could be very wrong about that) Of course I hope it meets that goal, and I do think it's possible, but it does seem a bit optimistic.
EDIT: Turns out I was very wrong about that number (Splatoon's apparently sold over 4 million as of last Febuary) so 2 million seems a very achievable number; unless something goes horribly wrong I can't see it not hitting that.
I applaud them trying to hack it (as a coder part of me just wants to see if it can be done!) but I am glad they didn't manage to leak anything; it'll be nice to have a few secrets in the game left until it actually comes out.
@Tsusasi Ah yeah sorry, I meant reveal. But yeah, I agree that it could make sense; I just don't think they know any more than we do. Anyone can speculate and say they have "reliable sources".
A September release? Noooo... who'd have thunk it?
It seems similar to all the other rumours; some things that seem obvious and probably will happen, some that definitely won't and nobody really knowing anything.
Tempted but I'm not 100% sold (also was just considering Wind Waker HD so now I'm really conflicted) but if it's like the Mario box could be very good.
We've had an Animal Crossing and Zelda pack so far... I'd be up for a Splatoon pack next? (also agree that Maple Treeway/Coconut Mall would be great too)
I'm a massive fan of The Game Theorists but this episode was a bit rubbish; great, a texture from an unused stage came from OpenGL. I'm pretty sure that was known ahead of time anyway, and it was just a bit boring the whole way through.
"The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS" That's what they said about the DS, and look where that ended up... I hope I get proven wrong, but my guess is the NX will replace either the Wii U or the 3DS in at least some capacity. I guess we'll see at next E3 though-wait no never mind. 😄

Re: Feature: Flicking Through The Debut Issue Of Switch Player
Definitely interested in this; I absolutely loved ONM back in the day so this brings back a lot of memories.

Re: Video: Alex Shares His First Impressions Of The Nintendo Switch With Nintendo UK
@Maxz I know right, I got so excited when I realised it was him! If only ONM was still around to report on all this...
Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Briefly Addresses Topic Of Carrying Over Online Purchases To Switch
Doesn't bode well... If they were going to carry over I think they would have announced it by now.
Re: Here's Your First Look At The Nintendo Switch User Interface
"Nintendo blew the doors off the Switch today" Well, you know, they kind of unlocked the door and left it a little ajar.
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?
@Solid_Stannis There were (almost) only 2 games to care about...

Why in the name of hell was this not in the presentation?
Re: Nintendo Switch Will Cost £279.99 In The UK
That's pretty harsh; I was hoping for no more than £250 here. Dammit Brexit!

@rjejr LOL, fair enough then! Hopefully it'll expand to other regions as well.

Is it US only, or will this apply to UK Starbucks as well?

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch To Start At £199.99 In United Kingdom, $329.99 In Canada
Damn, that seems pretty good. Hopefully they won't have to compromise too much on power, but I'd be pretty happy with that as a price point.

@Lzeon Yeah, rumours are that they're now waiting for iOS 10 to release before the update is fully rolled out.

Wow what a useful guide; oh wait the update hasn't been rolled out to me (and presumably the rest of the UK) yet. -_-
(joking aside, it is a useful guide though )

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try
Affordable Space Adventures is a massively underrated game, that arguably does a better job with the Gamepad than many of Nintendo's own games.
Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Needs To Sell 2 Million Copies To Make A Profit
@EverythingAmiibo Yeah, got that one pretty wrong...
Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Needs To Sell 2 Million Copies To Make A Profit
@Wouwter Ah right, in that case 2 million seems reasonable; especially since presumably that figure includes NX sales.
Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Needs To Sell 2 Million Copies To Make A Profit

Re: Nintendo of Japan is Putting on a Massive 5th Anniversary Sale on the 3DS eShop
I'd be surprised if we saw it over here (and if it did I can't imagine it being particularly impressive) but it would be nice. Fingers crossed anyway!
