I can’t think of a less-fun thing to watch than a Digital Foundry video. To be honest, I thought the NL article on all of this more than covered it, and did so more as fans of the series with critical eyes than fans of gnomes like Mark Cerny.
On one hand I want to question the sheer number of SNES games so high up on the list – I mean, I get that the SNES era was a big deal for a lot of childhoods but c'mon.
On the other hand, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom as 1&2? Please. No way. We don't have history on those yet to tell us if they really stand the test of time. I didn't like either one, to be honest, preferring the older style Zelda games where I didn't need to eat, craft, and run out of breath every 13 seconds, but I get they need to be on the list somewhere.
And Mario 64 at 25? Nah. I hate that game but it's SO beloved that it deserves top 10, if not top 5.
All of that and my boy Fox McCloud below Toad's silly treasure tracker? Criminal.
I can’t see the need for a lackluster box next to my television when I already have a couple of others. If the tech bits are true, this is a Series S-ish console to play my Steam library on. What I want is a great performing box with recent tech.
I've been playing Hitman games since the beginning and always wanted to like them but never really did. I always credit Absolution with breaking that – I genuinely love this game. Probably not going to play it again as I already have it Xbox if I ever wanted to go through it again, but it's solid. Not modern 1-3 solid, but definitely solid.
YES! I was holding out for this – day one for me plus I just got notification that my Yakuza Kawami upgrade preorder just went through ahead of launch next week. SEGA rocks.
Wilds was crap on launch, so no one should be surprised. I have no idea if it still is as they pretty much broke my interest on day one. I haven't played it since.
Rise has always been mildly entertaining and I go back to it every now and again because its rather weird.
I keep buying various "Warriors" games, playing them for a few hours, and then never looking at them again. I think I've learned my lesson: they're just not for me.
Am I the only one that questions the ergonomics of how this poor guy is using the joycon mouse mode on a coffee table? His back is going to be SO sore with all of that leaning.
Picked this up thanks to this article and finding out that cross-progression support is a thing - I somehow missed that. The Switch 2 version is nothing short of amazing in handheld mode but my aiming woes continue.
@FantasiaWHT Is anyone pretending this is personal? The article literally prompted readers for their thoughts. No one should be shocked when some of those thoughts don't align with others. If anything, I see a lot of reasonable people explaining why they don't like the pricing and a scant few people freaking out about that perspective for some unknown reason.
@bluemage1989 Keep your pity, kid. I have a great life. If gaming is so precious to you that you're over here arguing 90 people over something like this, it's pretty clear who between the two of us needs special care and attention.
@bluemage1989 Afford is one thing. I can easily 'afford' it. But can I justify it? No, not really. As others here have said, when Nintendo titles, particularly digital titles rarely ever go on sale to any substantial degree, this makes it all even worse. As an adult with limited time, balancing value is always top of mind (and to use your words, if it's not, you have bigger problems in your life). An industry struggling to maintain both outright sales as well as subscriptions will likely kill its own sales-side in favor of subscriptions when they price themselves into oblivion. Now, if there's a $20/month Nintendo GamePass-like service on the horizon, then we can talk. Until then, no way.
Eh. I'm already well over $100 into MK8 because I bought the Wii U version and then the Switch. There's no way I'm in for $80 for another one. Sorry. My Online subscription was set to renew in September; I've turned off auto-renew. I'm out. Of the 3 online subscriptions I have, Game Pass, PS and Nintendo's, I get the absolute least value from Nintendo already. I'm not sure there's even a Switch 2 in my future at all at this point.
This was the only game that made me regret parting ways with my Wii U, even though I found it to be nearly unplayable back in the day – just too kludgy for most all of the reasons listed above. I've already pre-ordered. Let's go. I've been looking forward to almost nothing coming to Switch for quite some time - this more than makes up for it.
God I truly hate Nintendo. I mean, I get killing off the Wii U stuff since those 14 people probably forgot they even owned one but the 3DS? I still see people playing 3DS on the train all the time.
You neglected to add an option for "I bought it, heck I even bought the Collector's Edition, but I haven't had time to even open it yet because I know it'll be a time suck and I have another 3 games to beat first." <--- that's where I'm at.
And here I thought the trilogy was going to be the safest preorder bet around. How silly of me. I should've just waited and played it on Xbox Game Pass but the portability of it sounded appealing now that the mobile games are no longer available. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, well crap, I guess I'm just a fool.
About a year ago I modded my 3DSXL and dumped every one of my 200+ games on a 128GB SD Card. I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend it for anyone with even a moderately sized library of games. It's super easy, though it takes a bit of time to dump each game, but the results are fantastic. Your entire library on the go.
The mega 80s/90s Yu Suzuki fan in me wonders if this is what he was really shooting for in terms of visuals back in the day. I love Space Harrier and see the similarities but this art style is bonkers - and after watching the trailer above 3x I'm still not sure if I mean that as a compliment or an insult. That said, I would totally buy this for a reasonable price on the eShop. Even as an Apple Arcade subscriber though, I don't see me playing this on my iPad.
@OorWullie I've often wondered about that. I always assumed the slowdown was 'emulated' to match the original vs. a Switch issue but good to know it can now be addressed as I found it a bit maddening.
This has become my all-time favorite Switch game overnight, but no one really likes F-Zero and there's nowhere else for it to really go, so we'll never see another one.
This is one of the few times I’ve owned every single game on this list. That said, I hope there’s a parallel universe where SRPG games are all the rage and Triangle Strategy wins every GOTY award. It certainly deserves it. I’ve dropped the rest to play it and have no regrets.
Hard to call this "dominant" when Nintendo is the only console with an incompetent digital store AND physical media still worth buying (ahem, most of the time anyway). Xbox and PS disc sales have gotta be dropping now that the world has mostly discovered they're just discs with license keys on them and the whole download still has to happen anyway
I kind of wish Fortnite would do more of its own thing instead of this constant pandering to whatever the latest pop culture phenom is. It's getting easy to predict what film will have a Fortnite tie-in next week. And hey, skipping the Sopranos movie? What's up with that? I totally would've bought V-Bucks for that.
This is one of my favorite Xbox games of the past couple of years but the switch port remains nearly unplayable in comparison. It’s a shame too as it would be perfect for portable. I look forward to all of these new additions but I’m afraid my switch will probably never see them.
I've been playing for an hour and am absolutely blown away by how good this game is. I'm traditionally only a Metroid Prime fan, having not really loved the 2D stuff but this game is changing my mind VERY quickly.
As a huge fan of the original entries in the series, this was a preorder, no question. I just got done playing through the first couple of areas and have ZERO regrets. Welcome back to the 90s! Fantastic game.

Re: The Game Awards Nominees Announced, Donkey Kong Bananza Up For GOTY
@KayFiOS Sadly I think Metroid will release too close to this years awards show to have a shot at 2026 - see also: Indiana Jones this year/last year.
Re: The Game Awards Nominees Announced, Donkey Kong Bananza Up For GOTY
Death Stranding 2 is the obvious winner here. It wouldn’t be the game awards without Geoff’s nose firmly up Kojima’s butt.

Re: Feature: 10 Years On, Is Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival Really That Bad?
Meh. Kids love it. Not everything in gaming is about my middle-aged white male self. Sometimes these companies make things for other people too.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment
Is it better than the first one? Sure - in performance alone. Is it better than Hyrule Warriors? Maybe? It's close.
Is it the best Musou game ever? No, but it IS a solid 7 or 8/10 and I have zero regrets about picking it up.

@nhSnork Agreed. I love that game, even more than I love DQ's 1-3.
Re: Japanese Charts: Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake Shoves Pokémon Off The Podium
You know its a great week for gaming in Japan when the weakest title in the top 10 is Mario Kart World (just my opinion but I'm sticking with it).

I get that it’s early days but man, I feel like a bit of a sucker for spending $449 to get a Switch 2 as early as I did. Give me new games please.
