This is one of the few times I’ve owned every single game on this list. That said, I hope there’s a parallel universe where SRPG games are all the rage and Triangle Strategy wins every GOTY award. It certainly deserves it. I’ve dropped the rest to play it and have no regrets.
Hard to call this "dominant" when Nintendo is the only console with an incompetent digital store AND physical media still worth buying (ahem, most of the time anyway). Xbox and PS disc sales have gotta be dropping now that the world has mostly discovered they're just discs with license keys on them and the whole download still has to happen anyway
I kind of wish Fortnite would do more of its own thing instead of this constant pandering to whatever the latest pop culture phenom is. It's getting easy to predict what film will have a Fortnite tie-in next week. And hey, skipping the Sopranos movie? What's up with that? I totally would've bought V-Bucks for that.
This is one of my favorite Xbox games of the past couple of years but the switch port remains nearly unplayable in comparison. It’s a shame too as it would be perfect for portable. I look forward to all of these new additions but I’m afraid my switch will probably never see them.
I've been playing for an hour and am absolutely blown away by how good this game is. I'm traditionally only a Metroid Prime fan, having not really loved the 2D stuff but this game is changing my mind VERY quickly.
As a huge fan of the original entries in the series, this was a preorder, no question. I just got done playing through the first couple of areas and have ZERO regrets. Welcome back to the 90s! Fantastic game.
Devil's Third, Xeno Chronicles X, and Star Fox Zero - this is all I need to make me happy with my decision to sell my Wii U for twice its retail price last year.
Yes, I really, really like Devil's Third. Sorry not sorry.
Remember when we would play Goldeneye on N64 and you couldn’t care less when the game would occasionally drop down to 10fps because the game itself was SO good and OCD dreck like Digital Foundry didn’t yet exist? Those were good times. NMH3 is a fantastic game. Play it.
Probably close to a tie between Green Hill Zone 1 and SMW World 1-1. I got both pretty close together and continue to play through them every few months to this day.
Crackdown 3 (XB1) this last generation was my jam. I've 100%'d that game at least a half dozen times. I love it.
Prior to that I'd say Project X Zone and 7th Dragon III Code: VFD on 3DS. Neither got good press but they're my two favorite 3DS games for some reason.
If you want to go back a bit, I was a huge fan of Sonic R on Saturn and way too many Master System games to count.
You lost me at "the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World, while inarguably an important and formative classic, is and always has been an exceptionally flawed game"
Alex Kidd love has nothing to do with Master System vs NES or any of that, it really comes down to "Do you love a great game with some challenge?" If yes, it's a classic. This version is nice, but it's not the original. Wii Virtual Console, Xbox 360, etc. players can still play the best version around without wasting $20 on this one.
Is this how the industry finally wins awards that normally go to Sony, by having an awards show at the event they don’t participate in? I say this as a very non Sony fanboy btw.
Strange. I waited decades to play this despite owning the original Xbox disc forever. Now that I have the overpriced remaster I’m struggling to figure out why everyone loved it so much.
Sold my Wii U and over 90 Wii U games for a small fortune when my income was reduced due to COVID last year. I can't say that I really miss it as I hadn't plugged the thing in for about a year, but I do regret it somewhat. Xeno X and Devil's Third feel like little holes in my backlog now that might never get filled, and I'm not happy about that.
Switch is scarce in the greater Seattle metro area. Very few stores have them and Amazon quotes a week or more to ship one. Switch Lite on the other hand is everywhere.
I agree with everything in this review except that I've opted to play it on Xbox Game Pass after having already bought it on my Switch. The in-game text is so small, and the font so awful, that I can't read it in handheld mode. I've yet to figure out why Switch devs don't compensate for handheld play with font resizing.
I made it about 15-20 hours, somewhere in there. Just not for me. Literally everyone else that I know with a Switch is still playing it though, including no fewer than 3 people in my household.
I played this on Game Pass a few months ago and really wanted to like it. I ended up exiting after about 4 or 5 hours. Too much backtracking and abysmal wayfinding kept it from being great.
I truly loved this game. It was such a surprise to see it published by Panic, creators of amazing Mac apps like Coda that I use every day, as well as locals here in Portland, Oregon.
Bought this earlier this week and absolutely love it. I definitely agree that it feels more like Fitness Boxing 1.5 than 2, but figured I really need the exercise now that my region is back in strict lockdown so it was worth it either way.

@The_Pixel_King Same here. Now it's in my all-time top 10, so Diablo II was a day one purchase. Haven't regretted it a bit.

Miitopia. Only Miitopia. My world is Miitopia.
Except for when I take some time off from Switch and play Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Xbox Series X.
Then right back to Miitopia.
