The latest UK chart results are now available and Polyphony's hugely anticipated Gran Turismo 7 races into 1st place, with critical darling Elden Ring slipping down into 2nd place.
The Switch retains some strong representation, however, with the newly released Triangle Strategy debuting at number 7, and Game Freak's Pokemon Legends: Arceus holding fast in 3rd place.
Looking at the multi-platform games, FIFA 22 sees strong sales for the Switch, making up 28% of the total sales, while the PS4 version steams ahead with 39% of total sales.

Seeing Triangle Strategy cracking the UK top 10 makes me happy! 😀
Impressive debut considering how niche the genre is. Can't wait until payday to pick it up. It's like this game was made for me.
nice to see TS get into the top 10 for sure. Crazy that MK8 is consistently in the top 10 week after week. What a money spinner..
I prefer Blaze & the Monster Machines: Axle City Racers than Gran Turismo games.
It looks cute anyway.
Weird Minecraft is still up there. Just kinda seems like anyone who would be interested in that would have gotten it by now.
@Jey887 people need to stop saying racing sims and arcade racers are niche. Like horror games they where huge during gen 5 and 6, disappeared durinh gen 7 and made a comeback last gen. Forza Horizon 5 sold over 10 million copies and GT7 will definitely so the same. The genre isn’t niche, it’s back from the death.
Rant over lol.
EDIT: lol I think you meant SRPGs and not racing games. My bad, sorry.
@UglyCasanova every day more kids grow old enough to play it and their parents buy it for them. Crazy how it’s been going strong since 2009 (which is when I bought it for the first time) - definition of evergreen!
That's a good result for Triangle Strategy, given the titles above it.
Should I be impressed Pokemon Legends Arceus has stayed in the top 3 since it debuted?
Wow. I don't know how a $70 racing game does that
Glad to see Triangle Strategy up there. Another week of no GTA, that's great.
@Axecon probably not. The UK list is the most static of them all. Very predictable habits.
Not too surprised to be honest, I could see Gran Turismo appealing to a much wider audience than Elden Ring. I mean yeah Elden Ring is the darling of the hardcore gaming community right now, but that's sort of it's problem in this comparison, it's a game that really only appeals to hardcore gamers who crave a highly difficult gothic action game.
Given that the only other SRPGs that have sold anything are the last few Fire Emblem titles and the original Final Fantasy Tactics, I'd say this is a decent result for Triangle Strategy.
@Mando44646 Not too hard to fathom really. Same way as a £45 port of an 8 year old wiiU game does.
Give us analog trigger pro controllers, Nintendo. (I can dream)
I played a lot of Gran Turismo 7 during the weekend and loved every second of it. Well deserved 1st place for sales.
@KoopaTheGamer did you try out the online sport mode? First for me, couldn't believe how rock solid and good it looked racing against 19 other people! Loving the campaign and café though, going to be a massive time sink.
I'm just happy that 2022 is packed with great games, regardless of genre and platform. 2021, while there are some great games, it could have been better but with some delays due to the pandemic, it's understandable and thanks to that, we got plenty this year.
@WaveBoy Let me guess, you had a go and it didnt play like need for speed and your patience ran out? Happens to the best of us lol.
@Serialsid No, I haven't played online. GT games are primarily single player games for me, and as such, GT Sports was kind of disappointing. I'm just so glad that they made a bit more traditional GT now.
But I will try the Sports mode eventually. It's also a cool idea how it even ranks your sportsmanship and uses that for matchmaking.
I'm currently playing Gran Turismo 7, Elden Ring and Triangle Strategy.
All phenomenal games. Great to see they're doing so well, particularly Triangle! Didn't see that happening but very glad it's selling 😍
Good. The Switch is not in need of great games but Nintendo needs a bit of competition at some point, right?
PS5 (or PS4...not sure) is really having a strong month! Good on them. It's having a bit of a stalled start, but next gen is getting there.
@Serialsid @KoopaTheGamer the entire games online you can't play the campaign offline
7th place is not too bad for a niche title.
@Would_you_kindly I know, what's your point? My ps5 is always online so doesn't bother me.
@Serialsid you asked if they'd played online but you can't play it offline.
Good for Triangle Strategy considering it's a niche title that came out during such a busy time with several blockbusters coming out back-to-back.
Did not expect it to crack top 10 due to how niche the genre is and usually has to be FE to rank
@Would_you_kindly online sport mode racing against other players is what i asked him. I made no mention of anything being offline.
I'm hoping Arceus and GT7 stay on top for a while honestly. Heck toss in Elden Ring too. These three games are must haves for their particular genres and are the quintessential games to own in anyone's game libraries. Best part is this year is just beginning and we have three of my favorite games of all time that just came out in a span of two months. Happy gamer days everyone.
I'm not in the UK, but I bought GT 7 and couldn't stop laughing and smiling while playing the music rally during the loading process. I'm on a kind of a work vacation, which is always sans-videogames, but I'll get back to it and will surely love it even though there's no 120fps mode (please Polyphony, cut resolution and graphics features and make this game astonishingly beautiful by giving it that native PS5 frame rate!) and it has atrocious real cash snake price cars and it's online only. I was partly laughing because in the future when people turn on an old PS5 and put in GT 7 they'll only be able to play this strange little mini-game!
@120frames-please The online only part is my only gripe. But because of the game's prominent competitive mode, it makes sense to introduce something such as always online to make sure cheating is cut to a minimum.
I am hoping a future update allows there to be at least Arcade racing as an offline mode.
Overall though, this is easily my favorite in the franchise. Its beauty alone is enough for me to keep playing.
This is one of the few times I’ve owned every single game on this list. That said, I hope there’s a parallel universe where SRPG games are all the rage and Triangle Strategy wins every GOTY award. It certainly deserves it. I’ve dropped the rest to play it and have no regrets.
@kal_el_07241 I read that 2 player splitscreen is online only. Only online racing should be online only!
I've been enjoying Gran Tourismo at 60fps for about 25 years. I was really hoping they'd increase he frame rate finally... I remember showing a friend the "HiFi" mode included with GT 1 on PS1 (which runs at 60fps) and telling him I thought every game would look that good on PS2. I hope Polyphony keeps working on GT 7 and gives players choices such as ray tracing while playing the game, or 120fps, or the regular old 60fps mode that we've got right now.
In less than one month PS5 had 3 AAA big games, Elden Ring, GT7 and Aloy (Horizon), 2 of them exclusives. Also GTA V for PS5 is coming pretty cheap. Things will slow down till next God of War. Nintendo is having great things coming up too, Switch Sports can be a new evergreen game
That an HD 2D game came in at number 7 is hugely impressive. I hope word of mouth gives this a successful slow burn.
I think many of us are still playing the Triangle Strategy demo and are undecided whether to commit to the full monty.
