Though its performance in the West has been mixed, Fire Emblem Heroes has shown some decent legs in Japan - this certainly makes sense, with the popularity of the series aligning with the continued growth in mobile gaming in the country.
Google Play in Japan has now released a terrific trailer for a current character-driven promotion. In a matter of 10-or-so seconds we see a rattle through the history of the franchise on various systems, ending on a smartphone. It's a quickfire and high energy series history that deserves multiple plays.
Animal Crossing is next up in Nintendo's list for smart device games; it'll be interesting to see how well - or otherwise - that'll be received.

Unpopular opinion: Usually about 15 seconds is all it takes for me to get bored with FE.
I wish we could have these type of promotions outside of Japan.
Oh my god... why is that kid in the thumbnail blowing into and potentially destroying that increasingly rare Famicom cartridge?!
Awesome! Wish they'd show a few more of the older games though.
I like the quick flash of furious button mashing.... What were they mashing in a Fire Emblem game?
@JHDK Considering those 15 seconds is to Press start, skip a bunch of cutscenes if a game supported an option, auto select the army, move to your space and attack. That's pretty much a feat.
15 seconds and no Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn cut? Blasphemy!
I can't believe they had that poll for favorite characters, Ike won, and they didn't put him in the game. He's definitely one of the more interesting and popular heroes of the later Fire Emblem games so what's their hold up?
@Turbo857 They bombed, especially in Japan.
@SmaMan Because he wants to play it...but the cart is not working...
@NEStalgia: Probably through one of the support conversations.
I've only played two FE games and haven't touched the mobile game, but suffice it to say that I think it's a great series.
@Tyranexx LOL, how true!
I'm terrible (absolutely terrible) at the series, but I love it anyway!
@AndrewJ Nice avatar!
Just need mah FE switch edition...
@GrailUK
Little does he know, the moisture from his breath will greatly accelerate the corrosion of the copper contacts in the cartridge, leading to its eventual demise!
Kids, don't be like the one in this ad. Ask your parents to help you properly clean your game cartridges with an easily evaporating alcohol-based solution, or with a simple eraser.

Fire emblem is my favorite franchise ever, since the SNES days (yeah I don't like the NES ones), to me this moment that we're living is magical. Tons of FE mainline games, a remake that are looking good, FE Warriors, FE Switch, rise of popularity. Thank god for begin alive to se FE such a hit!
What was with the button mashing?
@NEStalgia Dialogue boxes. Some people don't like to read.
I love Fire Emblem. But I stay well away from Heroes. Not just cause I'd rather play real consoles but, I'd blast through $500 a week.
Heroes was the first one I ever tried playing. Couldn't download right for like 20 tries and when it finally did there was... gratuitous cleavage? why? I guess they're trying to capture the 13yr old boy with the iphone and 99c to wastek, but I moved on without even playing it. oh well.
@SmaMan rare fire emblem famicom cartridge? ... i dont think so they made millions of them. They cost a few bucks on ebay.
@SmaMan i use iso alcohol myself but seriously overblown concern... pun intended. My 30 yr old nes carts still work fine and the contacts have not corroded and we blew on them every day as kids. The manner in which you store them is far more important. Humidity, moisture and dust over 30 yrs is far worse than blowing on a cart occasionally. This from my extensive experience.
@CrazedCavalier
They both sold like half a mill worldwide. Considering the install base for the GC was 22 mil, and strategy RPGs are a niche genre (and still is) = bombed kinda seems like a bit extreme imo
@Ryu_Niiyama Mash-skipping support conversations should result in the immediate permadeath of your highest leveled Lord!
