Re: Review: Gulikit Elves 2 Controller For Switch & Switch 2 - Wake-Up Support Can't Make Up For The Downgrades

shake_zula

I bought this a couple of weeks ago as I wanted a good d-pad with wake-up. The d-pad doesn't feel quite as good as the M30's but it is decent. The button travel is fine, not as good as a Dual Sense but probably on par with the Switch 1 Pro Controller. Overall the controller feels good.

@Moontrap I thought the wake-up wasn't working at first but it does work now. There's a specific sequence you need to do that's different from pairing an ordinary controller.

EDIT: My post originally said that the controller has a frame of input lag based on tests I did with my phone camera. However, real tests have been done by people who aren't idiots, and the latency is in fact extremely low.

Re: Soapbox: How Does Your Personality Affect Your Gaming?

Love this article. I too have always had lists and spreadsheets to organise whatever gaming endeavour I'm undertaking at the time. If I can't tick an item off a list or fill in a cell, did I even really play the game?!

An interesting tangent on this is trophies/achievements. I got addicted to playstation trophies and it ruined games for me a bit. I prefer Nintendo platforms for the lack of achievements, yet at the same time if the switch 2 has them I won't be able to resist it lol.

Re: F-Zero 99 Is Getting A New Update (Version 1.3.0), Here's What's Included

I'm still playing F-Zero 99 daily and I'm very disappointed to see mirror tracks being added. These are objectively worse tracks (otherwise they'd be that way round already) and it's so lazy. It detracts from the game imo. I'll probably stop playing now because I can't be bothered to memorise another full set of tracks which will look and feel exactly the same.

I appreciate most will see it as an overreaction but I truly loathe mirror tracks lol.

Re: Nintendo Says It Won't Raise Switch Prices, But Will Continue To Monitor The Situation

Whatever you guys think of the hardware, Switch is still selling strongly. 23m units over the last 12 months, 25m the year before that, 27m the year before that. It's a gradual decline but I don't think we're at a point where Nintendo need to be releasing a new console.

The longer they wait to release the next console, the more successful it's likely to be on launch - the 50 million people who bought a Switch in the last two years wouldn't want to buy a Switch 2 next year, for instance. Plus, waiting means better specs when it eventually arrives. I'm personally still happy with my Switch, playing it every day, and I'd be happy to wait until 2024 or even early 2025 for a new one.

I too much preferred the Master System games to the Mega Drive ones. Tighter controls, more streamlined level design, better frame rate, cleaner art style. And specifically for Sonic 1, an even better soundtrack - Bridge Zone and Scrap Brain Zone are the two best tracks in the entire series imo.

Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

@ferthepoet Yeah, and they're not even getting any shelf space from what I can see! The store I work at has one bay for Wii U, that it shares with Wii, and one for 3DS. I was looking through the games at my local supermarket last night and they didn't have a single 3DS or Wii U item, they had a few Wii games on a stand with old PC titles (Theme Hospital etc) and the rest of the space was dedicated to 360 and PS3.

I don't understand why Nintendo would care about upsetting retailers. Digital distribution allows for lower pricing than physical distribution, all retailers know this and it's something they have to deal with. If Sony sold The Last Of Us for £34.99 on PSN, what would retailers do? Perhaps lower their prices, but more than likely just grumble and get on with it. They're hardly going to refuse to stock it and miss out on even more money!

I work at Blockbuster, and when Microsoft announced their restrictions on used games, we STILL had an email down from head office saying we had to prioritise Xbox One preorders over PS4, because it was expected to sell better (and has, in our store). Game retailers are aware that they're in a shrinking industry, and they're in no position to start making demands to the likes of Nintendo. High eShop prices are hurting the consumer base, which is where I think Nintendo's priorities should lie.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Aim to Produce Mature, Genre-Defining Storytelling Experiences

shake_zula

Not for me. The main reason I buy Nintendo consoles is to get away from these expansive games. I have zero interest in getting my story-telling fix from games, I have books and comics for that which do it a million times better. I like games to be streamlined and focussed on gameplay, with as few cutscenes and as little exploration as possible. I also have no interest whatsoever in playing in a real-world-esque setting.

Not arguing with Thomas, maybe he's right, but that's how I feel.
