Re: Review: Quake II - Another Truly Outstanding Remaster Of An FPS Icon

russell-marlow

@Alex79uk Too be fair, I'm mainly calling them "meathead" shooters because you play as a roided-out angry space marine in most of these types of games. And the gameplay can be considered mindless most times. Still don't understand how people can give games like these 10/10 when they don't have much of a story. It's just aim n' shoot all the way to the end of the game. Heck, other FPS games have better bosses than in these Quake games.

@Maxz Freaking Kemono friends?
Okay, topher must be secretly viewing internet smut of that if he's going to refer to it as a furry corn game.
Low-key, the word "furry" has no proper meaning. It's supposed to refer to people in animal costumes roleplaying but for some reason people call fictional anthro animals "furries" and also people who wear animal ears and a tail as "furries" also. Very baffling.

Re: Rumour: Metal Gear Solid 4, 5, and Peace Walker May Be Included In Vol. 2 Collection

@StarPoint There's no way MGSV is ever coming to Switch.
First off, it's a huge open world game that has three distinct maps that have different layouts with huge amount of enemies with their own scripting paths that vary with how many ways you raid their guard posts.

Secondly, the game has an online PvP mode in the form of Forward Operating Base missions where the resources you gather in the main open world maps like Afghanistan and Africa go towards building your main base, weapons/equipment, and forward operating base that you use to defend or raid other people's bases and steal their staff as well their resources. Sometimes you can encounter another player and have to either defend your base by eliminating them or raid their base while having to battle them. Sometimes you can make nuclear weapons and you either steal them or disarm them yourself. Since these modes use online servers, and we know how crappy the Switch's online functionality is when it comes to peer-to-peer connections especially overseas here.

That means it's unlikely to function properly and this whole system is a core feature of the game that is directly tied to what the game is built around. There's even a cutscene that also plays a part into the theme of the series about nuclear disarmament, so if the online functionality is not working because of the Switch's outdated online structure. You'd be cutting out a decent chunk of the game if this online operating base feature were removed.

And lastly, MGSV also shipped with a separate multiplayer mode called, "Metal Gear Online" that would also would be difficult to run on Switch's online and if many people aren't playing it then there's no point in having it. If Konami wasn't able to have MGSV launch on Wii U due to bad hardware specs when it first came out, then I doubt it will come to Switch since there would be a lot that would need too be either cut or readjusted to fit the limited hardware space. That's essentially sacrificing a good chunk of the original product.

Re: Review: Cannon Dancer - Osman - The Bold, Concise Strider Sequel You Always Wanted

I don't think I will understand the logic behind some Japanese publishers thinking they could sell these old retro arcade games digitally for $30 when they include very few enhanced features and this game also happens too be relatively obscure compared to more well-known arcade titles out there. I wonder who greenlit this hoping it would turn a profit.

For that price alone they should've done a sort of remaster/remake like with Wild Guns Reloaded and the Ninja Saviors return of the warriors, it would've definitely been more worth the price alone considering how much cleaner those games look by comparison. A redone sprite-based remake would've given the opportunity to try to appeal to a newer audience interested in 2D sprite games and maybe would've sold decently. But this is the timeline someone chose instead.

And also, where is the Steam version of this?
They want this on all platforms and they decided to skip one that has potentially more people interested in this retro game compared to other platforms like Xbox, who I doubt very many people play retro games on.

Re: Sonic Frontiers' New 'Showdown' Trailer Is Just The Thing To Get You Hyped

russell-marlow

@Jhena Having not played the game and you're already judging the overall tone of it assuming it will turn out like Shadow The Hedgehog.

Very ignorant.

I for one, trusting Sonic Team and Sega having hired a long time Sonic writer from the comics, will do a decent job keeping a consistent tone and not turn into another blunder like 06 or Shadow because apparently that's the only bad thing about those games and not everything else surrounding them like gameplay.

It's nice to have some new lore and the plot to have some tension again because that's what's been missing from modern entries since Colors. The overly sanitized tone and cringey jokes for kids is what's been holding back the series from progressing forward. Just because a couple entries had a bad plot shouldn't discourage Sonic Team/Sega from having a another attempt at making something decent.

@CharlieGirl It seems people here have pointed out your ignorance and biases. Maybe you should revaluate your stance since it makes you come across as being somewhat stubborn when people have seemingly debunked the claims Hellena has made with the Bloomberg article and she herself hasn't made a statement after breaking NDA and wishing bad-faith on another person like Jennifer Hale.

Re: Random: Valve's Latest Steam Deck Trailer Briefly Shows A Switch Emulator

russell-marlow

@Arawn93 I was talking about you making mention of "Valve fanboys" when you "Nintendrones" can be more guilty of the same thing and enabling a company to get away with stuff while another company wants to give more power to the consumer.

We all know how stingy Nintendo's legal team has been over the years and how they really like to make things difficult for fans creating fan games non-profit and Youtubers. Meanwhile, Valve has always embraced fans creating content and releasing it on their site or elsewhere like with some of the Half-Life fans games or the Black Mesa HL1 remake, but please do go on about "Valve fans".

Yes, Valve hardware. This is probably Valve's third attempt at hardware, which turned out too be pretty successful. Can't say their Steam Box console was a good idea, maybe their Steam controller either but some people still like it and it's become somewhat of a collector's item.

Keep in mind that for every Valve hardware "failure", Nintendo has their own Virtual Boy and Wii U that they try not to remind us of.

Re: Rumour: Activision Might Be Teasing A New Crash Bandicoot Game Reveal

russell-marlow

It's been nearly forever since I heard there was an alleged Crash game "rumored" to be coming yet Beenox kept teasing us with so many red herrings that I'm really starting to get annoyed.

But if there's a new Crash 5 or similar game in the works, hopefully I can get to still play as my big bazinga bandicoot waifu, Tawna.

Oh, and I also hope they port Crash Team Racing and 4 to Steam.

Re: Random: Valve's Latest Steam Deck Trailer Briefly Shows A Switch Emulator

russell-marlow

@Arawn93 Want to hear a joke?

Nintendo Switch Online

And btw, just because we wanted to use a quote to appropriately describe how to be more consumer positive doesn't mean we want to "fanboy" for our favorite companies, I'm looking at you who's projecting pretty hard right now.

And also, how many times have I heard people here posting that Miyamoto quote about: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

Re: Random: Valve's Latest Steam Deck Trailer Briefly Shows A Switch Emulator

russell-marlow

@sword_9mm Yeah, the thing that bothers me with Nintendo is once their on the verge of financial failure like with the Wii U, they humble themselves but once they find major success like with the Switch they start to get a bit complacent and don't really do much innovative aside from their usual Wii controller gimmick tricks they like to distract us from everything else that might be an issue like their lackluster online offerings.

Re: Takaya Imamura Celebrates Star Fox Adventures' 20th Anniversary

russell-marlow

@RareFan What an ignorant thing to say. You know about as much about Star Fox as Anita Sarkeesian does.

Krystal hasn't been a damsel since the first game she appeared in. Then afterwards, she took a supporting role alongside the other members of the Star Fox crew in Assault and Command. Outside of those other entries, would be nice if she appeared in a future Star Fox game that continues after Assault.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

russell-marlow

@Wexter You have to admit the JRPG market is oversaturated just like how FPS games are over here. I think the best way to describe how I feel about certain JRPGs, that being having a culture shock reaction, is something similar to how Dunkey made a video on Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If you watch that video then you would understand some of my attitudes, as someone who doesn't regularly consume Japanese media, how it appears to me at least.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

russell-marlow

@Wexter Too be fair, the anime aesthetic with some of the plush toy looking monsters does in fact look a bit childish, might I add.

Unless, you're denying this too be true?

Not all JRPGs are that way, but some are very obvious. I don't dislike all of them, but the one's that I do, it's almost impossible for me not too cringe at.

And on the subject of Western RPGs, the Witcher games stand out a bit because they don't delve into fantasy tropes like Tolkien fantasy, too much. But also because I'm not that big a fan of that type of fantasy nor World of Warcraft-looking games that might as well be the generic JRPG equivalent to typical western RPGS.

I like the Witcher games because they do have a bit of "realism" to a certain extent too them that I can't imagine most other Tolkien-inspired fantasy games do not have that makes feel more empathetic, you know, minus some of the legit fantasy elements.

But yeah, seeing how oversaturated most media nowadays is with anime and similar stuff like video games, I can't imagine people having an issue with these types of games themselves since it's overly popular and any criticism falls on deaf ears.
