Other M was a poorly received game not only because of the gameplay but also because of how Samus was characterized and how her voice was sort of deadpan.
But that shouldn't be a reason as to not let her speak or interact with anyone since I don't think I would want to see a mute Samus in an type of media adaptation where she just doesn't say anything.
@graviton Oh I get it, people are so desensitized to gore they don't even realize how messed up it is. That really makes no sense to call gore "not edgy". I'm sure that's just you, man. Most people will agree any form of dismembering or disembowelment is pretty dark no matter what context. The fact some people are used to it is sort of disheartening to hear.
@Baircade Because y'all will watch anything, it doesn't matter if it's quality or not, y'all will watch anything and everything because some of y'all ain't got no expectations nor the attention span to remember what happened the next week after.
No wonder Netflix gets away with releasing so much shoddy content and wonder why they get clowned on, because there are so many peeps willing consume trash content on a moments notice that it really doesn't matter to them.
I saw that Zootopia line in the episode and I immediately cringed out of embarrassment. Guess it's true what a lot of people are saying about this Netflix series, somehow the older RE movies are better than this.
@link3710 Also, I'm not one of those people that plays anything and everything that's massively marketed on the console, I have specific tastes and that's why I sometimes seek out hidden games or underrated games.
I get the feeling that I might soon experience a wider library of games when I get my Steam Deck.
@link3710 I mean... sure? But there can be an overabundance of anime games that may not be my cup of tea sometimes and some of them can fall into the category of being sort of edgy almost like Doom like with the SMT games and it's subject matter.
When it comes to anime games, I can tolerate some of them if they're made by Nintendo but like a Youtuber Scott the Woz once mentioned how some anime-style games can feel too alien to people like me who don't regularly consume them and sometimes downright cringey in some ways like Xenoblade 2 and it's weird moments.
I know I'm sounding a bit nitpicky but I still genuinely think there's a weird variety of those types of games that I mentioned in my previous comment and how it creates a sort of weird mood whiplash when you look at them.
I guess I can say I'm craving for more reasonably mature games that aren't juvenile in tone.
@nessisonett I've heard nothing but bad things about Limited Run Games and their business practices. Please encourage others not too support them and call them out for their tactics.
I simply can't get enough of these "wholesome" games uwu.
Not really, tho. Not really a fan, and it's weird that the most popular games on Switch are either these cutesy games with a baby toy art style or ultra-violent murder fest games set in a hellish environment. There are few games I'm finding that have a middle ground in aesthetic that are neither of the two extremes I just mentioned.
It feels a bit strange that a good portion of the Switch's user base plays both types of games, the cutsey platformer types and the Doom-like games.
@Olliemar28 Are they alone responsible for that show? Last I checked, it strays a bit too far from the source material for the plot and characters.
Not too mention, Netflix can't seem to get away from the "Netflix Adaptation" meme that they constantly keep fumbling adaptations of popular franchises not only Resident Evil but Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, etc.
How is this even a complaint, a game is either too long or too short for some people and feels like something really arbitrary to be negative about.
Sounds too me like the reviewer is just marking this game off a checklist of other games he has to play in order to review and he didn't feel like being invested in the game.
@Toke_McGee You'd be surprised how much harassment there is towards Russian citizens at the moment because of what's happening. Every major banking and credit card company has left the country over sanctions and they have to look to other means to cash in their checks. Some of them have to go to other neighboring countries in order to make a bank account, some have to make fake ID's so that banking companies from other countries can accept them, and some are even resorting to crypto currency just to make ends meet.
Some crazy stuff is happening right now and they get most of the blame for the decisions of the President over there. Most people don't even realize this happening.
@HollowSpectre Yes, proxy wars have existed in other parts of the world.
However, this is a war that is affecting everyone and here in the U.S. it is affecting people financially due to the sanctions. This is a war focused on two ethnicities and the dominant power, Russia, is subjugating the lesser country of Ukraine because it doesn't want them to join NATO and various other reasons.
This isn't the first time a major war has been fought over there, it is one that has gained more international attention due to the President of Russia instigating this war over territorial dispute with NATO like I mentioned.
Not only that, but in both countries of Moscow and Russia, there's a lot of political strife going on and clashing of ideals, so I'm sure that Nintendo and Microsoft made the right call for holding the releases of their games as it would maybe not cause any controversy. You know how quick news journalists are quick to make headlines on these sorts of things and how this might affect some people which would also affect the game sales.
So suggesting that this war is insignificant like every other war is a bit ignorant on your part.
No, not him.
At the age of 60 and under that specific sort of circumstance is an absolute tragedy.
I will never forget when I was at the age 7 in 2002 and saw Yu-Gi-Oh for the first time on television all those years back and it being my first exposure to anime really blew my mind with the kind of character driven plots and visuals I had never seen in any other form of media at the time.
Then being drawn to the card game itself when most of my classmates and friends started playing it and it got me into collecting the cards and appreciating the artwork on them.
I will never forget Yu-Gi-Oh and the impact it had on me, I will always cherish those nostalgic memories I've had of experiencing something great at the height of it's popularity at that impressionable age when it really sparked my imagination.
Rest in Peace Kazuki Takahashi, may your works live on and inspire future generations.
Weird jokes aside, seeing a Mario game coming to PC, potentially, is very surreal. Especially since Nintendo is probably the last company to port their games to PC. They're especially stingy when it comes to change, so them doing this is probably a good idea since Sony has started doing it.
@DTfeartheBEARD The big question is, how much of a graphical update will this game receive?
Like are we talking Unreal Engine 4 or 5?
If it's 4, then it could possibly be ported to Switch.
On the other hand, the question of whether or not this game will get some form of censorship due to current day politics is also something I ask because we know once this game will release again, it will cause quite a fuss with Kotaku and Resetera.
@AnnoyingFrenzy What a dumb statement, those are not "risks". Nintendo has always been known for being a toy company even before the days they made video games. They know their demographic, kids, and they know what to market to them. The fact that Nintendo really fumbles the ball on first party software from time-to-time, like how any reasonable game developer would logically add more content to a new game and think of new creative gameplay mechanics, Nintendo usually opts for controller gimmicks when it comes to their first party games.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Just saying, even in Western media there's a whole lot of shows depicting Satan as being a tragic hero or something, which kind of goes against how he really is and what he's supposed too be, the liar, the deceiver, being hateful against others because of jealousy, trying to tempt others to do wrong, etc.
Now other religions like Buddhism or Islam never get the same treatment as Christianity, I'm guess those people would be too cowardly to even attempt to poke fun at those religions because they'll get immediate backlash and be called "racists".
It's just surprising to see how much the Bible gets misconstrued by most people, like there are some people that are like "Oh, look I read one excerpt from a book that's not canon to the Bible, Paradise Lost, and I know everything about God and Satan." Even though it's missing a lot of context and they didn't get to the part where Satan actually becomes evil.
@Darkwario1 Going to be honest, this looks like some angsty teen's fan fiction with all the goofy edgy looks of the characters, the main character having a hoodie is making it look silly and the whole vibe of the game isn't staying true to Christian lore just on the story premise alone. I mean, it comes across as purposefully spiteful by portraying angels as demons.
My whole impression of this is basically, "Screw you dad, I'm going to rebel against you and not eat my vegetables."
Other than that, it looks pretty bland graphically and gameplay isn't selling me since there are better games with more fluid and better combat than this.
I'm surprised people want too play this since you would have to have low standards in taste to even consider getting this.
Not gonna lie, I'm glad Zelda's artstyle drastically shifted after Wind Waker because almost every Nintendo franchise has a cartoonish artstyle and the few that stood out were Metroid and F-zero, and we all know those series aren't super popular compared to Zelda.
Zelda might be Nintendo's only game series that Nintendo takes seriously when it comes to the aesthetic.
But Wind Waker's fine tho, it's just a little bit overrated.
@CharlieGirl I just read a Kotaku article mentioning the devs of Sonic Mania and how they feel that this collection was "rushed" by Sega. By that I mean there was time crunch involved and they managed to mess up a bunch of things, Steam reviews show some of the issues at the moment but other people have mentioned the bad quality of the music for Sonic 3 that didn't use the original better sounding prototype music on the Genesis as well as other game bugs that you could find on Twitter.
So while it doesn't affect most players at the moment, this is something that very much needs too be addressed, I certainly hope Nintendo Life mentions that Kotaku article that was just made and the developer that has vented some frustration about this release on Twitter, along with my hope that they patch some of the issues as well as add lives system to anniversary mode.
@thinkhector Let me repeat myself, I don't want the wide screen aspect ratio limited to Anniversary mode with no lives.
And I don't want to play the "Classic" versions with the original 4:3 screen size because that is totally defeating the purpose of this definitive "remaster" of the original games. You have to have more screen resolution so not only does the game look better but you could see incoming obstacles and enemies.
What I want is an option to enable the lives system with the new remastered graphics/HD widescreen.
That's literally it. It shouldn't take much to fix or patch or if there will be an option in the first place.
@RubyCarbuncle It does take away most of the challenge of the original games, the main appeal of having to memorize the level layout with enemy placement and just getting good at speeding through.
@PreMonition Honestly, if Princess Elise was another species similar to Sonic like his cast of friends or whatever than nobody would be having an issue with it happening, also Sonic's reputation would have been still fine but unfortunately that was the moment his career was kinda of ruined.
@Deadlyblack There's something about the clashing art styles of a weirdly proportioned cartoon hedgehog and a realistic human princess that really makes me question, "How did anyone not see how goofy this looks?"
@KateGray So I guess you're more of a fan of puzzle action FPS games like Portal, Mirror's Edge, and the Metroid Prime games?
I understand, I guess the FPS genre has been getting a bit derivative in recent years, but at least we have the classics and the unique genre mash-up games.
@Bolt_Strike Sure, but even though this is Sonic we're talking about, not every gameplay style needs too be blisteringly fast or all filled with cinematic set pieces that substitute for gameplay by taking away the player's control for a moment.
Honestly, the pacing of the treasuring hunting sections is just fine. It allows to go at a quick pace and momentarily stop to get a better view at your surroundings while you resume looking for the shards. I'm sure those stop-and-go moments also occur in Sonic/Shadow's gameplay portions when you're looking around for other routes to traverse. And besides, if you're having trouble finding the pieces, those hint monitors exist and will guide your were they could be.
What else is there to say, I agree with mostly everything you said. I just want some variety in Sonic games and to use a handful of Sonic's cast of characters that compliment the fast nature gameplay but also having it's own spin without dragging down the overall experience of the main game.
Either way, thanks for your input and I hope we've come to some sort of understanding and compromise.
@Bolt_Strike I prefer sonic games too be less "linear", if we're on the topic of keeping Sonic's core gameplay philosophy intact. By that I mean there has too be a focus on getting some collectibles, like for example in the old Sonic games you had different routes you can take to get to the end goal, how you got about it was your choice.
A few easy or mediocre linear Sonic games that come to mind are Colors and Forces, it's one of the complaints some fans have about the "boost to win" game style of the newer entries.
But along the way, there were rings to collect and checkpoints you could cross or secret rings you could find in order to go to the special stages to find the chaos emeralds. Not everyone would collect the emeralds but they would be missing out on the other half of the content in the game. And replay ability is one of the key things fans talk about whenever they mention the retro games. Besides the games wouldn't be talked about as much if they were easy or didn't include some form of collectibles besides rings for lives.
And yeah, replay ability, playing stages over and over until you recognize the pattern and layout of each stage so that you could recognize the enemy placement, so you could avoid incoming obstacles find various secrets hidden throughout, you couldn't save in Sonic 1 or 2 but you had to play it one go in order to beat the game. In Sonic CD, you had to go around and find specific robots to destroy in order to get a good ending.
And you know, the Adventure games held this same principle as well, Adventure 2 more than the first game. Though, still Adventure 2 expanded on the concepts of Adventure 1 by having a ranking system and tweaking the physics to be more weighty feeling.
I'd argue that the treasure hunting sections take inspiration from the old Genesis games and does it's own unique thing. I'd say it complements Sonic's main gameplay because you can find the emerald pieces pretty fast, there are videos that show this, and if you replay the levels they become more enjoyable to quickly run through and get a higher rank in SA2.
Now I was talking about some of the positives about the Adventure games but I understand there are some "filler" gameplay styles like you mentioned. These types of undesired styles that didn't stick around too long or were just a one and done deal and didn't return in following games. Not many fans are asking for too many of those styles to be brought back like the fishing or SA 2's mech sections, because I will admit that they aren't very good.
That being said, however, it doesn't necessarily mean they were all bad. Just keep what complements the main gameplay or rework it to fit. Besides, even newer Sonic games have some sort of gameplay gimmick to keep things interesting and not just feel like you're running to the end goal as fast as possible. And some people may or may not like those gimmicks just as much as the people who say they don't like the multiple characters in the Adventure games.
In fact, you're mainly playing as Sonic through most of the newer games with some sort of gimmick, there was a time when you could play as three different characters with differing styles ever since the old games and you weren't just playing as Sonic only. Those old styles would evolve into some of the Adventure styles that people fondly remember where you play as some of Sonic's friends, so what's to say that they shouldn't return?
@Hydra_Spectre The only director that I think would fit to maybe make a Duke Nukem movie is probably John Carpenter, if you've seen his action films like Escape from New York, Big Trouble in little China, and Escape from L.A. then you'll see how how he'll probably understand the vibe of Duke Nukem, maybe Escape from L.A. fits into that vibe.
Though I'm not sure if he's interested in making an action comedy film since he's more of a horror movie director as of now.
@Silly_G "Sex Positivity" rule only applies to women and the LGBTQ community, especially them, because people seeing guys expressing their lust for girls as a cultural norm sort of thing, you know it's the default thing compared to the opposite so it's not celebrated.
But I dunno, maybe it has something to do with that "patriarchy" thing some of those people also talk, the metaphorical boogeyman of men in power trying to suppress marginalized groups or whatever it is they're saying.
@Bolt_Strike You can go fast and collect stuff in the treasure hunting sections, people like that style and goes well with Sonic's core gameplay style.
No one's asking for fishing to be brought back, but the mech sections can be substituted for something else better.
Overall, I think playing as only Sonic gets boring after a while when half his levels can be done with almost no thought or effort, and I'm guessing that's mainly why some people say when they like only the Sonic portions of those games because it's short and easy.
@Gamergirl94 There should absolutely be a third spiritual successor to the Adventure games, maybe it doesn't need to be called Sonic Adventure 3, maybe something else because it's been so long since the 2nd game was released.
But imagine what Sonic Team could improve upon by going back to the Adventure style formula. They could now add the green target reticle from the recent games and make it more easier to know the distance between you and the enemy, the light speed dash can be tweaked to another button so it doesn't bug out sometimes or accidentally mis-input like in SA2, the treasure hunting stages in Knuckles and Rouge's levels can return with improvements, maybe they could bring back a playable Eggman again.
The possibilities not just with the gameplay improvements but with the return of some fan favorite characters being playable in a mainline Sonic game again is just something we've been wanting for a long time now. And now is as a good time as any to do it since the classic Sonic games have been making a resurgence in popularity, why not the good early 3D Sonic games?

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - The Best Turtles Beat 'Em Up Ever Made
Anybody know who did the art for this game?
I can vaguely make out who it could be.
Re: Random: Don't Expect To See Sonic Kissing Anymore Humans, Says Sega
@PreMonition Honestly, if Princess Elise was another species similar to Sonic like his cast of friends or whatever than nobody would be having an issue with it happening, also Sonic's reputation would have been still fine but unfortunately that was the moment his career was kinda of ruined.
Re: Random: Don't Expect To See Sonic Kissing Anymore Humans, Says Sega
@Deadlyblack There's something about the clashing art styles of a weirdly proportioned cartoon hedgehog and a realistic human princess that really makes me question, "How did anyone not see how goofy this looks?"
Re: Random: Don't Expect To See Sonic Kissing Anymore Humans, Says Sega
So does that mean we can finally see Sonic make out with Big The Cat like I've always wrote about in my fan fiction stories?
Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game
@Bolt_Strike Oh, quit whining and grow some gamer chest hair.
Re: "Lightning-Fast" Action-FPS Bright Memory: Infinite Is Coming To Nintendo Switch
Re: Streets Of Rage 4 Developer Lizardcube Is Hiring For A New Action Game
Who was in Paris?
Re: "Lightning-Fast" Action-FPS Bright Memory: Infinite Is Coming To Nintendo Switch
@KateGray I mean, are you a fan of modern or retro FPS games in general?
Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game
Re: Duke Nukem Is Getting A Movie From Legendary & The Creators Of 'Cobra Kai'
@NotArmani What was his reaction, did he stream about it?
Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game
Re: Duke Nukem Is Getting A Movie From Legendary & The Creators Of 'Cobra Kai'
@Hydra_Spectre The only director that I think would fit to maybe make a Duke Nukem movie is probably John Carpenter, if you've seen his action films like Escape from New York, Big Trouble in little China, and Escape from L.A. then you'll see how how he'll probably understand the vibe of Duke Nukem, maybe Escape from L.A. fits into that vibe.
Though I'm not sure if he's interested in making an action comedy film since he's more of a horror movie director as of now.
Re: Duke Nukem Is Getting A Movie From Legendary & The Creators Of 'Cobra Kai'
@Silly_G "Sex Positivity" rule only applies to women and the LGBTQ community, especially them, because people seeing guys expressing their lust for girls as a cultural norm sort of thing, you know it's the default thing compared to the opposite so it's not celebrated.
But I dunno, maybe it has something to do with that "patriarchy" thing some of those people also talk, the metaphorical boogeyman of men in power trying to suppress marginalized groups or whatever it is they're saying.
Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game
@Bolt_Strike You can go fast and collect stuff in the treasure hunting sections, people like that style and goes well with Sonic's core gameplay style.
No one's asking for fishing to be brought back, but the mech sections can be substituted for something else better.
Overall, I think playing as only Sonic gets boring after a while when half his levels can be done with almost no thought or effort, and I'm guessing that's mainly why some people say when they like only the Sonic portions of those games because it's short and easy.
Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game

@accc That profile picture along with the comment is very sussy.
Re: Here's Your First Look At Netflix's New Castlevania Series
@nessisonett So this new show isn't going too be as nihilistic or ultra edgy as the original series?
I'm so tired of the modern day trope of "bad guy misunderstood, is actually good if he still does terrible things and religion bad."
We need more shows with at least an ounce of optimism in this sea of so many shows being so cynical.
