I have a spare joystick to replace the one I have left that's drifting, but may figure out which one it is so I can contact support and send it in for an official repair. I did replace the stick on one that was drifting pretty badly. It's not bad, but did take ~ 30 minutes. Re-assembled, calibrated, and it's been pretty good so far. But I shouldn't have to self-repair.
Agreed with the others above that the better option would be to fix the design issue that results in this problem in the first place. I imagine that's got to be in the works as repair/replace costs are about to go up quite a bit with this news.
Voted #3. I have one joycon I haven't replaced the stick for yet and that will drift. I had it bad on another one, but it hasn't happened again since replacing the stick. Before that it was "all the time".
Well, it's available for free on Android so I may shoot for that instead. It gets reasonably decent reviews - most complaints are that it's too easy or too short, which seems to be the point. I don't mind a short/easy RPG. I'm more likely to finish those, even though I like the depth of story behind the larger worlds.
The problem I have is that I start playing those larger games, then don't have time to get back to it for a long while. At that point, I've forgotten some of the "how tos" or what I was supposed to be doing.
Joy-con drift was at the top of my list, too. Contact Cleaner works for some, but I had to actually replace the stick (which was still cheaper than a new joy-con).
Now if better components led to longer battery life, that would also be cool, but I'm not going to seek out a slightly improved Switch for a possibly faster experience. If it's a huge improvement with better components, that's a different story - but still not going to seek one out to replace a functional system.
I'm potentially interested in Stranger Things, but want to read some reviews of people who've played it before I buy it. The concept is interesting and I enjoyed the mobile game as far as that went, but not sure if I'm in for $20 for it.
I tried options #1 and #2 for a while, but no luck.
I've done option #3. For $10 or so, I got 2 sticks and the tools to open up the joycon. Took about 20-30 minutes because I was going slowly and then had to get that tiny spring for the top button back in place twice because I hesitated while putting things back together. But - that stick is working just fine now. I have another to tackle at some point, but my primary is working fine.
And agree with others - this shouldn't be a problem for as much as these things cost to replace at the consumer level.
I'd be a lot more interested if I could subscribe to a version that let me pick the songs I want my kids to have access to and get rid of all of the others. I kind of liked the old "Kids" versions they put out a while ago. I tried out the current, but wasn't able to control the songs that easily to limit what was available or not. :/
I actually really liked Simon's Quest. Of the early Castlevania games, it was probably my favorite. I'm sure part of that had to do with the ability to level up and resume from a certain point as opposed to most of the games in that era where you could easily lose a useful weapon for something else and have to start over at the beginning of a level if you ran out of lives.
I think I just needed the one hint for the "kneel for ##" part, but on the whole I think I got through most of that game without too much extra help. I loved exploring and slowly getting more powerful items to make it through new areas. I didn't even mind grinding too much, though there were times when I wanted that to go a little faster.
I think I got more interested when Castlevania introduced more of the "metroidvania" gameplay, though. Simon's Quest was a first step along those lines, poorly translated though it might have been.
The only one in this collection of any real interest to me is Simon's Quest. I could save/resume/level up/buy items in that one. I could never make it through the original or 3 on the NES without getting quite frustrated - moreso when my super-useful special got replaced by something else because of a poor drop and needing to start completely over each time. I'll wait for a release that includes some of the latter titles where the level-up type experience was the norm.
@Plexagon You'd know it if you had a drift issue. It's really annoying to just be "resting" and have your character start moving randomly in some direction. Worse when a young one is trying to control a character and can't understand why they're walking into danger when nobody's touching the controller. :/
While I get the whole "knock off" thing - I'm also wondering if these work the same and if (even better) they've eliminated the "drift" issue. Have that happening on both of my L joycons. :/ Need to just buy the replacement sticks and tools to repair, but still annoyed by the need for that. If a 3rd party works as well and avoids that issue, I'd be interested.
May try the toothbrush or electic contact cleaner route. Been using compressed air, but that doesn't seem to have helped completely (though it does help some). I appreciate the replacement guide for the stick. Anyone know if these after-market sticks work better or do they also have the drift issue after time?
Wish the NES stuff would let us use the arrows instead of the stick for controls. Maybe that's been addressed but I had so many missed moves with the stick not registering up/down/left/right as expected that it was just an exercise in frustration.
Sadly, the stick broke off of my joy-con and I'm not quite in a place where I can attempt to replace just the stick so ordered a replacement.
@PharoneTheGnome Compressed air to blow inside the joy-con stick can help with that. I did that for a used joy-con and it's helped. It's not perfect, but it makes a difference.
While intrigued by the Golden Duck title, I'll be passing for this week. I like LEGO games, but will be waiting for it to make the normal price drop in a month or two.
Is that price for Clue accurate? $30? Are you re-enacting the movie for that amount or am I missing something that makes a really old board game port worth $30?
Overpriced, but I agree that the NES games will likely play better with them. Trying to use the joycon stick results in a lot of "misses" when trying to move, which in turn results in getting hit, missing, not moving, or similar when trying to play a game.
I'll probably hold out for a cheaper 3rd party option.
Don't have any figures so the NFC isn't a huge deal right now. If I could use this to play NES games, that would be a win. Using the sticks trying to play games designed for UDLR is a bit painful. Have had my characters just sit there several times due to a motion that wasn't enough in the zone to register.
Pre-ordered Forgotten Anne for the small discount and because I was looking to get it for PC a while back, but didn't.
Syberia? You can get that for PC for much, much less than that price and it likely plays a bit better. They're fun games, good puzzles, good art, but they're also a bit old. I'm sure they're good to play on the Switch, but I have trouble justifying that cost.
Same for Grim Fandango - fun game, good story, but ... a little high in the price for an old port. If you've never played it, probably worth it, but it will probably be discounted.
Interested in Moonlighter. My family would probably appreciate Wheel of Fortune. There's something about interactive hangman that's appealing. Jeopardy could be interesting as well, but trivia games tend to become dated more quickly.
I'm somewhat interested in Valkyria Chronicles and Syberia, but not necessarily at those prices.
If Paw Patrol drops, that could be a fun title for the little one, but not at $40.
I'd love to see a Just Dance Kids come back or a Just Dance Disney - those were fun titles with music that I didn't necessarily mind the little one listening to while hopping around.
I have no problem with it one way or another. Some will like it. Some will want to explore/level up. I can see it as a way to more easily explore the world, but it does seem to take some of the fun out of the whole adventure.
My only issue with the game so far is that the controls are a bit fiddly when using the joy-cons. I've not moved several times because the controller registered a diagonal instead of UDLR. Didn't think that would be an issue, but it makes a difference when you're trying to attack orthogonally and the character doesn't respond.
Wouldn't mind a chance to play these, but don't own a 3DS/2DS and the Gamecube functionality on the Wii may or may not work for me if I could track down a disc. (and never figured out how to use a non-plugged in gamecube controller if that is possible)
Would love to see a port to the Switch for those of us who missed it earlier.
Already had the DLC for XC2 so got Torna automatically. Bought FF XV because it seemed reasonable to me and I'll play it when I get a little more time. Nothing else of huge interest in downloads right now.
Have to plug my console back in - I had taken it with me on the road. I'll check it eventually. I'm not expecting it to be mind-blowing overall for my current games, but look forward to the new features.
Played this for a while on the Wii - and then hit some odd point where the game refused to continue about 2/3 of the way through. Beat the boss and it wouldn't go past that screen. I haven't gone back to see if that ever resolved. I really enjoyed the time playing and the Wii had some fun with the remote to draw on the screen. Not sure how that works w/ a normal controller.
Have the physical copy of Capt Toad coming. It looked fun before and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it. Star Story: The Horizon Escape looks like it could be fun. Has pretty good reviews on Steam and this is 1/2 the cost (at the moment).
Need to know a bit more about Octopath Traveler before I bite on that one. I think I played the demo ages ago and found a quick death so want to see if this is for me or not. The concept sounds interesting.
I'm w/ John above - never had a Wii U and enjoyed the brief time I spent with this in a demo. I ended up pre-ordering through Amazon for their pre-order discount because I think this will be a fun game for me and the younger set.
No cracks yet, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't appear. I can see cracks near the ventilation areas - that kind of makes sense. I'm more concerned about cracks on the corners that could very well be from relatively normal use. Of course, my gaming time is far less than what most people here probably log. I also tend to play more undocked than docked so probably don't hit those higher temperatures as often. Still - something to watch for in the future. Hoping if this is widespread that Nintendo will own it and make it right, but that's going to be tricky considering saving stuff off of your Switch isn't a feature right now.
I actually would have bought a Wii U, but already owned a Wii and just couldn't justify buying into a whole console upgrade for pretty little gain. If the price had dropped enough, I might have done it because I really like the second screen idea (or just being able to use that screen to play games when someone else is watching TV). I also like the ability for the WiiU to play Wii games - no need to invest in those again or buy them again for the new system. But the naming/marketing were probably the worst part. Many thought of it as a minor upgrade to the Wii (or an accessory) and few saw a good reason to get it instead of a Wii, which had a pretty huge set of games. But still, backwards compatibility + ability to play not on the TV were big pros to me. Cost - not so much.
Picked it up for PC for the time being. May re-buy for the Switch when it goes on sale because it is a fun LEGO game romp. Much to destroy, much to see, lots of things to do. I managed to unlock a flying hero while doing one of the earlier sidequests or miniquests near the waterfront so that helps seeing what's going on easily.
I think if my youngest had more fine motor skills, she'd like this. She's making up superheroes in the other room.
So far no major issues other than me getting confused by which button to hit or where to go next for certain things. Unlocking other Pixar characters is fun, if a little odd at times.
Not really looking forward to the "Race" parts of the game - I just never do well with those. Would love a handicap option for them as the controls always get me turned around way too easily.
I'm interested, but I don't think I'm necessarily interested for full price. Playing adventure games like this on a console has never felt right with the interface, though the story seems like it would be a fun ride.
I'm a bit torn. I like LEGO games. They're formulaic, but I enjoy the escape into just smashing bricks. However, I'm not really keen on playing the part of a villain - even one in a LEGO world. I'll keep an eye on it and might consider it when it goes on sale, but overall, not really interested. I'd rather play the LEGO Incredibles.
Been playing on and off as time allows. I still enjoy it, though some of the side quests can be a bit annoying. (Tiger Tiger or "ingredient hunt" type quests) Been trying to get a couple more unique blades before finishing the game and starting over. At least I got Degas unlocked, though I'm assuming that new game glitch has been fixed or will be fixed soon so that's moot.
Definitely interested in more Xenoblades content, though I don't have the blades to use some of it yet. :-/ Bertram Fiddle is interesting, but I'll probably wait for a sale, depending on length. Not sure about the Alchemists game. I'd want to know more before getting that - and likely not for full price.
I grew up in the text games era. I think my favorites have to be the old Infocom adaptations - Zork, Planetfall, and I could have sworn there was a Wishbringer as well. They were related to the game worlds, but not an identical story of the game.
I also enjoyed the novelizations for the Gabriel Knight games. They were a fun read, but definitely something to read after playing and finishing the game.
I'd be interested in Detective Pikachu if it were available for the Switch. I don't own a 3DS and don't really have any intention of getting one, but the game sounds like something I'd enjoy.
Looking forward to the improvements. Right now it reminds me more of the Windows Store than anything else - broad categories, a "what's coming/what's on sale" area, but if you don't know about something there's a good chance you'll never see it unless you browse through everything. As more and more titles are added, that's going to be a mess without a major overhaul.
I'm interested, but it does depend on price. I never owned a WiiU, but this would have been one of the games I'd bought if I had. I tried it out briefly in a Gamestop while waiting around for something and it was a lot of fun - at least for the time I played.
I buy most of my games as cartridges so I can have the cartridge and because they're a bit cheaper so a little disappointed about the 1%, but it's still better than nothing. I haven't checked yet to see how many points I have and what I could buy/discount with them. I check regularly for games worth buying/downloading, but have trouble justifying full price for many of the titles. Still, there are a couple of things in my wishlist that might be worth getting at a cheaper price and won't show up in physical format.
I do wish the points wouldn't expire, though. I know they want to give people an incentive to buy something before the points expire, but it would be friendlier to the consumer if they didn't.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th May (North America)
Burger Time, Mega Man, Framed, Wizard of Legend - all interesting. Not sure if I'll get them right away, but interesting.
Not sure about the Mystery title. I'd like more info on that before committing. Some great releases this week, though.
(No interest in Hyrule warriors - just not my style of game, though the theme would be appealing)
Re: Nintendo Download: 29th March (North America)
Definitely interested in more Xenoblades content, though I don't have the blades to use some of it yet. :-/ Bertram Fiddle is interesting, but I'll probably wait for a sale, depending on length. Not sure about the Alchemists game. I'd want to know more before getting that - and likely not for full price.
Re: Competition: Win A Set Of Third Editions Books, Including Zelda, Dark Souls And Final Fantasy
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd March (North America)
I'd be interested in Detective Pikachu if it were available for the Switch. I don't own a 3DS and don't really have any intention of getting one, but the game sounds like something I'd enjoy.
Re: Nintendo Plans To Increase "discoverability and visibility" On The Switch eShop
Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Makes The Leap To Switch And 3DS
I'm interested, but it does depend on price. I never owned a WiiU, but this would have been one of the games I'd bought if I had. I tried it out briefly in a Gamestop while waiting around for something and it was a lot of fun - at least for the time I played.
Re: You Can Now Spend Your My Nintendo Gold Points On Digital Switch Purchases
