Well, if it's like the DQ11 Demo, this should be pretty amazing. That demo really surprised me by continuing past the point where most demos stop, then allowing all of that to carry over to the full game. I thought I would hold off until a sale, but they managed to hook me and I bought after a week or so when the demo was done. Much more useful to hook someone than to just show off a taste of what might happen.
Not condoning piracy of video games, but I'll admit to being curious about the MIG cartridge to put a single cart in with copies of a couple of my legally owned games to be able to travel with those instead of having to also keep all of the cartridges. That seems like a pretty decent trade-off for legally owned games that I may not want to lose the original carts for.
As for the bricking - if Nintendo just blocks their online access with those consoles, that's reasonable. If they completely render the hardware inoperable - not so much. And of course, if you get a false positive on one of those brickings, what recourse do you have?
Would have been great to get a Joy-con 2 and pair to an original Switch, but highly unexpected if that were to happen. (and impressive if they'd pulled it off)
Well, my current Switch is still going relatively strong (barring a flaky battery meter issue and the joy-con drift issues at times). I want to see the real-world stories from Switch 2 users before I drop that much money on a new system. Add in the whole "not really a game on a cart" thing and I'm even more gun-shy about pulling the trigger. I'll likely get one eventually, but I'm not in a huge hurry to do so.
Looking forward to a patch. I get pretty regular crashes to the point that I save my game before doing even basic stuff back at HQ. Outside of that, I've been enjoying it, but the crashes get annoying.
I played through the starter dungeon and just getting to the "now let's start the main story" part right afterward (where I could save at the inn). My biggest issue was with a bad joy-con in the world map. For some reason the drift was bad enough that the world would just start spinning with little control over anything. That was ... annoying. Swapped out for a different joy-con without that issue and apparently need to queue the old one up for sending in for a repair.
That aside, I didn't have huge issues other than the load times between what are pretty common occurrences - entering/exiting buildings being most noticeable. That and some of the cut-scenes just popping up repeatedly, but playing on a Switch I can at least hit the Home button to pause and not worry about missing anything.
Looking forward to the patches to see if they can make the load times a bit better, but seriously - it worked acceptably for me. Of course, I'm not looking for 60fps 8k resolution performance/graphics. This is based on old-school jRPGs after all.
@BrazillianCara It was on Kickstarter a while back. It morphed a bit from the original proposal but is still somewhat interesting with a variety of Clanks along the way to work with. I think it's already out on Steam if you want to see what it looks like. I backed for the Switch cartridge so hopefully it's on the way soon. I doubt it will be as good as the comics, but it should still be fun.
(And I still have no idea if there's a long term "resolution" that the comic is aiming for - I'd hate to have it just end without tying up some more of these loose ends.)
I ended up getting the digital version so hard to justify the physical cartridge. Still considering it, though. I've enjoyed the game quite a bit and there's something about having an actual cartridge....
@k8sMum Yeah. But considering my lag time to get to games ... I'm good. I figure at least 1-2 years before seeing any sort of major sales and I'm okay with waiting. I don't have a huge need to be there right away for most games.
Not sure what attracted me to it at the time, but the old Final Fantasy on the NES was my first. I ended up beating it, which was pretty impressive for my skills. I remember trying a couple of different classes and getting them evolved and actually made it to the boss battle and beat that the first time. I also remember being frustrated about not being able to go to certain areas until you hit certain milestones (usually getting ships or beating some boss along the way to advance past some town/dungeon). But overall I liked it enough to play when I finally could again. I never owned an SNES so jumped up to FF VII for my next on a woefully underpowered PC. I did finally get to go back to some of the prior ones, but of those VI was one of my favorites.
I'm about to just send mine in for repair. I can wait while they're fixed. I don't have to mess with the fiddliness myself - especially that one spring where if you touch it wrong, it goes flying across the room. I also have one joy-con that refuses to recognize that it's actually attached to the Switch when in handheld mode. It shows as "paired" but not "docked" so won't work in handheld mode.
I did replace one joycon stick myself and it wasn't horrible - took ~ 1 hour + the cheap tools/parts. It was a bit tricky at times and I'd missed one small bit so took it apart again and that's when the spring for the L buttons went flying. I don't necessarily mind doing that repair, but if I can manage without for a time, I'll let it all happen on someone else's dime (minus the box/padding for shipping).
Chrono Cross eventually - if it hits a sale. Chinatown Detective Agency is a maybe. Not sure how it plays on a console vs PC. From the demos I've played, it seems better suited to a PC, but I'm sure they've tweaked some things for consoles.
Pre-ordered LEGO Star Wars ~ 2 years ago now (maybe longer). Thinking I should have sprung for the Deluxe version with all of the DLC included, but as it looks like all of the DLC is made up of characters, I don't think I'll be missing too much.
I appreciated LEGO Incredibles, if only because I could put a speedster in instead of a vehicle and work on some of those race challenges. I'm horrible at controlling the vehicles if something gets a little off so this was a welcome change.
I really like Heaven's Vault, but it's definitely more of a "mystery" game than "Detective". It's also pretty slow-paced if you want to see everything (and will take multiple plays). You can definitely miss things along the way and not be able to go back. But for all of that, you slowly get better at translating the old language and can learn more about the story and universe.
I enjoyed Jenny LeClue and look forward to the sequel. My only small gripe was that it felt a bit short, but it's often on sale for a couple of dollars.
Still trying to figure out if there's a "Season Pass" that gets us all of the Deluxe content as an upgrade to the "standard" version. I don't really mind some small DLC charge for additional things, though I won't usually bite just for characters. Extra missions and such are much more attractive.
Any comments on the flight controls? I almost always have difficulty w/ the vehicle/flight missions where you have to tag ## items/checkpoints in a given time limit.
I remember the DC Super Hero Girls before this iteration - thought that was a little more to the tastes of our family. I appreciate them trying something new, but this iteration really didn't click as much with my youngest. She still might enjoy the game, but it just wasn't the same as the one before.
I'll admit that I have a soft spot for the LEGO games. Yeah, they aren't exactly hard, but they're great for smash/build/shoot/jump in a somewhat comic fashion. Of course, I tend not to be a big FPS gamer so the tastes are going to vary quite a bit there. The Incredibles and DC Super-Villains are both pretty good and I'm looking forward to the Skywalker Saga (whenever it gets released).
I don't remember DQ X for the Wii. Seems strange - I usually pay attention to those. XI is by far my favorite, though. Even the Demo was amazing and went on for far long than I expected - so long that when I finished, I didn't waste a lot of time before buying the full game.
Not necessarily surprised, but still a bit disappointed. I'll admit I'm looking forward to this if only because I'll be able to play w/ the kid and have a split-screen experience.
I'll admit I enjoy the translation part of the game and exploring, trying to get new snippets and artifacts along the way. I know there are different branches as time goes on. The sailing is useful to find those hidden spots to get more artifacts and unlock new words, but it is tedious. Would be great to allow plotting a destination and have any "seen" wrecks show up in the map afterwards.
Still, it's a relaxing game overall and is interesting to me. I definitely don't recommend for everyone because it's not a fast-paced game. The joy is in the exploration and puzzling out the old language. (and ideally not getting yourself in one of those "wish I had/hadn't" situations )
Looking forward to this, but I'm generally a fan of the LEGO games anyway. Hoping this isn't heavy on the "flying/driving" scenes, but I understand that's part of the genre. Just wish they had a more concrete release date, but it comes when it comes.
I've enjoyed the time I've spent with the game, but it always feels like I don't have enough time/knowledge to move on. I also messed up the first time through by going to that first "ruins" location too quickly, not realizing how much freedom we really had. Missed the opportunity to get more information before going there and being able to do more.
It's not a fast game, but it's the sort of game I enjoy.
So many options - and our Wii still gets playtime even these days. Just broke out Guilty Party the other day and forgot how challenging the minigames can get as you advance. Zack & Wiki was an early release purchase for me and a good one. It really tried to use the controllers to do some neat things along the way.
Nothing for me this week, but I'm regularly reminded that it would be really convenient to add items to my "wishlist" online - when I'm not actually on the console. I'm more likely to forget about something if it doesn't get on the wishlist and it's a lot easier to browse those titles online than on the console.
I'll admit to being curious how the 2D vs 3D parts work with climbing up buildings and such. That worked well for the 3D version, but couldn't try the 2D version. 3D also seemed to give some good ways to get around monsters, though I imagine 2D would show them, especially those behind you.
I'll give it a try - may even stick to the 2D version for most of it just for the visibility.
Hoping the DQ demo lasts beyond this first stage into a little more exploration, but it's intriguing enough at this point to have me interested. I'd like to see 2D mode as well for comparison, but 3D isn't as bad as I'd feared.
Had an original Gameboy black & white - the screen started missing vertical lines. At first it was one or two, but spaced apart enough to still be usable, then multiple in a couple spots so you just couldn't see what was in that vertical line at all. I gave up on the system shortly afterwards. Trying to get it repaired at the time would have been more expensive than it was worth.
Wii - developed a disc read issue. I suspect that was because my family had a tendency to pause a game, then go off and do something else for hours/days at a time. I was able to buy a replacement drive, screwdrivers, and swap it out without too much trouble. I then followed some homebrew suggestions to hook up a USB hard drive and copy my disc games to that for loading. That made for a much more pleasant experience and keeps me from using that drive unless I have a new game to load.
Switch - joy-con drift. I finally gave up and bought new sticks to replace mine. I did one repair without too much trouble. Haven't gotten around to the next one yet. I know it needs to be done, but it's not a huge priority. Wish Nintendo would fix that design so we wouldn't have to do it ourselves.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?
