Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?

papa_frezz

I definitely would in theory - my 1st gen Switch only reads about half my cartridges at this point anyway for some reason.

In practice, the issue surely comes down to space. Assuming switch 2 will be capable of playing games that get close to 100gb, you’d be looking at needing, what, at least a 2tb hard drive and the option to expand…in a portable?

And because it’s Nintendo who think it’s still 1993, they’ll get it wrong. It would have like 500gb with a 500gb expansion limit, and then after 6 months they’d be releasing a direct explaining to people how to save data to the cloud so you can uninstall and reinstall games as needed

So, yes I would, but I doubt it’s a thing.

I've 100%'d it. If you like the first one, you can probably overlook the frame rate issues and occasional crash (it only ever seems to crash when docked). The biggest crime at the moment is that Switch players can't access the global crossplay leaderboards - this has been confirmed by many players on Discord. But under the bugs, for me, the game is an 8 or 9.

I'm glad I bought it but I'm looking forward to doing it all again with a much smoother experience when it drops on the next gens (all but confirmed).

Horizon Chase Turbo ftw!!!! Once the sequel is patched it will be just as good; there's a great game under all the bugs (Still wondering if Epic stopped you and everyone else from reviewing it in it's current state, as literally no one has).

Hot Shot Racing didn't get the attention it deserved in my opinion, such a great game!

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - Totally Tubular DLC

Nothing about this feels underhand.

It doesn't feel like it is something that was sorely missing or worse, withheld from the launch.

DLC like this is a good way for smaller companies to maintain cashflow between major launches; to call it greedy is unfair.

If all they'd done was simply release Usagi as character DLC it would have been £3-4, and and fans would have lapped it up, so £6.50 for 2 characters and a new mode with new artwork feels pretty fair.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Punch-Out!!

papa_frezz

I love old box art that bears, at best, only a vague relation to the game, so I went with Mr Dream.

I mean, if you think about that image in terms of the game, that's the weirdest official painting of Mario you'll probably find.

Re: Sega Wants To Know What Mini Console Fans Would Like To See Next

Master System (yeah I'm one of them weirdos) but I got a better idea:

Release an online enabled console called Sega Ages that can emulate all of them well (because to natively run all of them would obviously be very expensive). Then sell me the games I want through a Sega store front. Slap on a fancy UX and take all of my money.

Yes, I know I'm dreaming.

I had Expansion Pass anyway, so it's not so much a complaint, but maaaan the new tracks are underwhelming. I don't think I appreciated how much the crazy elevations and hover collisions in the base game (incl, the original dlc) add to the excitement.

When they announced these waves it felt like they were giving this game the love it deserved given it's still a massive selling point, but the reality is, it's lip service.

Re: Talking Point: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?

papa_frezz

On my third right joy con and second left. Only the left one was drift though, the right two were both connection issues and the shoulder buttons not working when used as a single controller (joycons are rubbish).

Cartridge slot requires pushing games in and out about 5 or 6 times for them to eventually work.

I'd get a new one but it's a first world problem. It reminds me of my temperamental NES, and anyway, with my luck they'd then surprise launch the Switch Pro later that same day

Re: Poll: What's A Fair Price For The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack?

papa_frezz

Tbh if it was the current £18 a year just for online play and cloud saves with no retro collections, that would be reasonable - I pay Apple £3 a month just for cloud saves.

I think since they are tiering the subscription anyway, I think the sensible thing would have been:

NSO: online and saves
NSO+: online, saves and retro collections

They will no doubt have looked at this so would be interesting to know why they decided on the model they did.

I read this site every single day, but I had to create an account today just to say OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! Honestly this is possibly one of my favourite games ever.

I had a feeling this DLC would be a tribute to Super Monaco GP, but I thought it would be a few tracks to gage interest in a full game. Looks like they've gone straight out and given us the full game for about a 1/4 of the price I'd happily pay for it. Woooooo!!!!!
