Cloud gaming will be a thing most people will try out (when it's possible), a few stick with, but many will get tired of the novelty and move on.
But there's A LOT of the world, even in developed countries, that don't have a strong infrastructure for this. Here in the US service is decent in the bigger cities, but quickly deteriorates as you get further away. I don't see streaming being a thing for many years.
I'm surprised this change is happening. The power of the internet I suppose. I agree the look is definitely off, I'm not against the change at all. (crosses fingers and hopes for the best)
I had my left one start drifting just after the warranty expired, but Nintendo repaired it for $20. Then shortly thereafter the right one developed the same issue. Since it's not as noticeable in games, I let it go. I finally bought a new set this weekend. Hope they last.
My 3ds has been retired for awhile. I'd buy this on the Switch though. It was by far my favorite Kirby game. I never fully appreciated the others I guess.
Since the Switch release, my 3ds is pretty much retired. Wish this was on Switch too. I want to play this, but I'm not sure if I'll want it on the 3ds. So many good games coming up, which ones to buy....
So both crowds will be pleased, 2d Metroid on 3ds, and 3d (presumably) on Switch. I'll probably buy both. Metroid Prime is THE announcement I've been waiting for.
Steam has a stream option, but it has to be on your local network. It's definitely got a bit of quality loss and/or lag going from my pc to my laptop. I don't see this working great with the Switch, but eventually (in several years) streaming games might be feasible.
I played a ton and spent money every paycheck, until .... rooted phones were blocked. Jerk move Niantic. I wasn't a GPS spoofer, rooted for other reasons altogether. Plus, Nintendo decided rooted devices can't play Fire Emblem or Mario Run. Frustrating.
Just want to add some positivity here. Mine is fine. Zero trouble with the Joy Con or Pro Controller. Its been on almost constantly since I bought it. I just say that to encourage people with trouble, get a replacement for detective devices. There are working systems. People without a Switch complaining about the problem? Stop.
It looks like Nintendo has a long term plan with the Switch (as opposed to the Wii U). What we can see so far is the hype building up to a holiday season Mario. Smart. It looked foolish for them to skip the 2016 holidays, but now all eyes are on them. There are certainly more surprises coming though. I'm excited to see it unfold.
@BigBadJohn Yep I saw two separate ads before Lego Batman yesterday. Good job Nintendo, I don't remember seeing anything about the Wii U as far as ads other than what I searched for myself.
I've helped add to those statistics. But I bet there are many like me who aren't pre-ordering, and aren't waiting in line to buy one launch-day, not buying one from a scalper, but I'll wait until I can just walk into a store and buy it easily. That being said, that is STILL my plan for the NES Mini, still waiting.....
@legendwaker Right there, that's exactly it. Plus, if the Switch was, say, $250, that would put a "needed" price cut on the New 3ds (which has a huge amount of popularity still, ahem, Pokemon)
@Maxz I was thinking a project like this is pointless, why waste your time on somthing that can never be released. But as a learning experience, yeah that makes sense. Now take what you've learned and make your own game. 😉
I'd gladly pay for any quality game. Development is work, nothing is free. Either pay up front, or pay by being marketed to through ads (and microtransactions). Expecting something for nothing is ridiculous. I hope Nintendo can shake up the mobile market with this, although there are many other games for around that price already, it's nothing new.
@KrakenSoup Yeah I was on the fence before the reveal. The new Zelda was definitely being purchased, but if it was the Wii U version or not, that was to be determined. Well looks like it going on the Switch.
I'm just glad to see Nintendo come out with such a solid effort. I wasn't feeling very optimistic after how the Wii U launch went. When they reavelead the name, I immediately felt the system was off to a bad start.
The 3ds systems in my house are used daily, so are the tablets. I don't see the Switch taking away tablet users as much as I see portable gamers getting an awesome device powerful enough to double as a home console, or vise versa. Its Nintendo's niche made even more seperate. Now, what is the next Pokemon title going to look like on that.👍
Super excited, if this things runs like its supposed to, I'm all in. I'm glad they ditched the Wii name and began fresh. This has the potential to be a huge seller if games get released consistently.
It makes a lot of sense for Nintendo to ride out until past Christmas with what they have. Pokemon, Mario Run, Nes mini, will be big sellers. And why try to fight with ad space between ps4 and xbone when the NX isn't releasing until 2017? It would wash out the focus, although waiting until after the holiday smoke has cleared Nintendo will have all eyes and ears on them. I suspect a January announcement, and possibly pushed back release.
I enjoyed it. I wish you could get up and running in the real game that fast. Starting a new Pokemon game is torture at the beginning while it gives you a babies' hand holding session on how to play.
I'm buying one. Sure, I could play any of these games emulated through my PC, but this can be easily transported to different TVs in my house, or to hotels when I go out of town. Great selection of games too.
The game still has a BETA feel to it. I've been patiently waiting for more substance....now after dumping cash into it since launch day, my device can't play it because I choose to be rooted. arrggh!
@SuperDude95 If people really wanted to, you can get around the root checks I'm sure. I'm rooted and have no intentions of doing that myself. I'm pretty irritated though. I've been putting my money into the app, now it's useless? Screwed up Niantic. :/
Nintendo is making their move by getting directly in the spotlight during one if the most watched events if the year. Good plan, THEN after getting some attention...NX announcement! (I hope)
