I had been really wanting to play Hundred Line, so I went to buy it today. I had heard that it's been selling really well and I got worried it'd become one of those hard to find games... Lo and behold, it's sold out at pretty much every retailer! I managed to snag a "ship to home" order from Gamestop, but that's the only option left! Happy to see it doing so well!
I think the Switch 2 has the potential to be the best follow up Nintendo console since the NES to SNES transition. I LOVE Nintendo's willingness to take chances on concepts like the WiiU, or the unorthodox controllers such as the N64 or GameCube controllers... But that innovation typically comes at the cost of widespread support from third parties, or with games shoehorning in that innovation to it's detriment. I'd much rather see a console with the most widespread ability to support all kinds of games well, and innovation being found within the games and or/add on peripherals.
Definitely getting this! I wonder if I buy the S1 version will there be a free update to the S2 version? Or do I have to buy the S2 version to get all the benefits?
I felt like the price of the Switch 2 console seemed quite fair. While I would have loved for it to be $399 US to really hit mass appeal, it seems like a reasonable price. Given the news of Sony raising its console prices, it makes the S2 cost look all that much more appealing imo.
I think the color palette and the lack of that trademark Nintendo wackiness are the two biggest drawbacks for me. The gray and dull, muted colors just don't feel exciting or vibrant to watch... something Nintendo usually does so well. The other thing it seems to be missing are like power ups or something zany to add to the core gameplay... Again, something N usually does really well. I love the representation for sports with disabilities, and this seems like it could turn out to be really cool if it goes through the typical Nintendo fun/color lens.
I think the price for the system is spot on. Seeing as how Switch 1 still goes for $299/$349, the price tag seems quite nice. I think $69 for most next gen games seems fair as well. Other consoles already adopted that price for games, so it's understandable. My one hiccup is $79 for Mario Kart. I mean, lol... I'm going to get it, because it looks amazing and packed with content... But I do think it's too high.
I don't love this...but the days of having an entire AA or AAA game on any physical media have been ebbing away for a while now. Even on Series X with its larger capacity of media, buying a disc still comes with a huge download...so it's not just Switch's issue. It's industry wide, and rare for any game to have zero download requirements. Again, not saying I love it, but it's just the way of things now given the size of games, patches, dlc, etc... I think the Wii/PS3 era was probably the last where the majority of games were 100% on physical media.
I'm not really sure how this is different than the current physical games that require a download for the rest of the full game? I think I'm missing something.
@Grimley141 I like the idea of a Nintendo account with a limit of one being a prerequisite for early preorder access. Anything to cut down on scalpers and people buying multiples.
I'm definitely going to preorder, but I hate the stress and chaos that comes with trying to get one, especially since websites will probably be crashing. Knowing that scalpers and people buying multiples while the rest of us try to just get one is so disheartening. I just wish there was a better method than the usual craziness.
I really hope it does well, it looks like it could be great... But I wish they didn't stake everything on a game coming out at the end of the console's life cycle. All eyes are going to be on Switch 2 at this point, so their sales are definitely going to feel that impact unfortunately.
I dunno...I can't see Nintendo wanting to do anything to distract from the Switch 2 Direct this close to the reveal. I think they'll want to put all their steam and energy into making sure the S2 Direct is the focus for this time period.
This looks incredible! One question I haven't really been able to get a clear understanding of... Absolutely not trying to troll or start anything... Does this game have an in depth story, with a party of actual characters with their own back stories and interactions (like the rest of the Xenoblade series), or is it more like a bunch of side quests and player created characters (more along the lines of an MMO)?
I am excited about the freedom the Legends series gives to the Pokemon team. They can experiment with things like real time battles, and see what works/ what doesn't, and still return to traditional turn based battles with the main series. I don't get all the negative comments on the graphics though. It looks fine to me, just like a modern, cute, 3D Pokemon game would be. I don't understand what people are expecting it to be?
I think they will have a similar rewards system added strictly to NSO members. They've mentioned how they want to add value to NSO, and this would be a great way to do that
I think MiiVerse was the beginning of a great idea that I'd love to see implemented again after some more tweaking and adjustments. A dedicated social network on my console to help me find new players, ask questions, share tips, etc... could be such a fun experience if implemented and maintained well.
I totally get being a huge fan of Nintendo's IP and wanting to create something within their universe. As a kid, I of course dreamed up scenarios for Link to battle through, or Mario to conquer. But as a grown up, understanding more about IP and the rights that protect them, I just don't get why you'd pour time, energy, and money into something you know has a huge chance of being shut down. Like, why not create something that is a nod to the the things you love, rather than blatantly using others IP?
I'm definitely planning on getting it day one. I'm hoping that the preorder situation isn't crazy and everyone who legitimately wants one (not just scalpers) is able to get one. I do think we've seen that price can have an impact on early adopters though. 3DS was an example of Nintendo pricing a console higher than a chunk of fans were wanting to pay. This forced a rapid price drop, which helped turn momentum around. I'd say a portion of early adopters won't be fazed by price, but even then I think that will be dependent on how much of an upgrade this is. $399 is the highest ideal price point. I think anything higher will greatly affect their sales.
I originally wasn't planning on picking it up, as (like many others here have mentioned) I've purchased it twice already. But after watching more and more trailers, I've grown more excited to revisit this masterpiece in HD. It's not the graphic glow up I wish it was, but it'll still be great!
I love the music and gameplay... but I feel like I'm missing something in regards to the graphics. People are saying it's beautiful, but I feel like my copy must be broken, lol. Like, there are so many times where it looks extremely low res, like a bad PS1 title. I'm not a graphics snob by any means, not into FPS counting or anything like that, I just wonder if something is wrong. On handheld it looks nice, but in a TV it can really take me out of the game.
Radiant Historia is one of my all time faves, and has a spot right up there with Chrono Trigger, FF6, P5R as one of the best jrpgs ever. I loved the art, story, battle mechanics, music, characters.... Just amazing.
@CriticalGames Super cool of you to respond and be so open to the community and feedback! Hope you find the success this game deserves, take a breather, then get back to making more amazing things!
This sounds amazing! I'm definitely picking this one up! Even the things that the reviewer mentioned as being negatives are things I just attribute to the era of games it's paying tribute to, so it's not something that bothers me. Super excited!!
@MrCarlos46 I think they'll definitely change the Switch 2 UI, just to freshen things up and make it feel new and improved. I'm sure there's ideas they've held onto for Switch 2, rather than using them on Switch 1. Themes could be introduced, or something entirely new. Exciting times!
@splatoonaddict I definitely miss the themes from the 3DS...And Street Pass! I think Nintendo will make some updates to make the OS feel new and fresh, but still be as quick as possible, so it may be minimal.
@alexsara I totally agree about weaker or non-existent stories and replaying the same missions over and over being 2 deterrents for roguelites. A lot of times, randomized elements like level layouts are also present, which means they weren't carefully crafted and thought-out like a human level designer would methodically put together. I'll hafta play Valkyria Chronicles! It's on my list, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

All that to say... I don't think Switch 1 games will get a "resolution boost" or "FPS boost" in the same way Sony and Microsoft do. I also don't think we'll see games release on Switch 1, but also give consumers the option to "spend $10 to get the Switch 2" version, like Sony does with cross gen games. I also don't think Nintendo will make many cross gen games.
They'll focus entirely on making Switch 2 and Switch 2 software the thing to buy.
@Contes I think Limited Run Games has the physical editions available for pre-order (standard and collectors). I don't know if other retailers will have it too though.
Oh man...it's a roguelite??? Sigh...I had no idea. I was super looking forward to an srpg like this. It looked beautiful, full of depth, and like it added some neat wrinkles to strategy RPGs...but I just don't vibe with roguelites. What a bummer.
It's my favorite Sonic game since the original release of Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast! It looks beautiful on the Switch OLED screen, and is such a joy to play. Whatever magic Sonic Team bottled up with this is something I hope they continue to move forward with. THIS is the Sonic game I've been hoping for! 9/10! (Not a 10 because I still think there's improvement to be made in Sonic's control...but that's been a lifelong issue since the beginning.)
Looks really interesting, and has a Nintendo quality to it...but 100$ seems way too high for the limited amount of things it seems to do. Maybe there's more functionality that will be revealed in time? I definitely would've gotten one at $40.
This is one of those times I feel like I'm playing a totally different game than reviewers. I am loving it so far! Sites have said the game is ugly, PS2 era graphics, but I completely disagree. I think it looks quite pretty! The music, voice acting, art direction are all great. The story seems interesting so far, and the combat is fun and quick. I truly don't get how on Earth this scored a 5, but so many other games have gotten much higher. I guess I need to stop giving so much weight to reviewers. I hope others give the game a chance too and just decide for themselves.
I really dislike piracy. It hurts everyone...developers, writers, artists. Just because Nintendo is currently (emphasis on currently...WiiU era anyone?) doing really well financially doesn't make it ok for anyone to pirate their games or mod their hardware to make playing pirated games easier. It is Nintendo's IP, and they have every right to protect it. I don't get how anyone who claims to love videogames could be in support of things like piracy that only harm the industry.
I remember the fever pitch Nintendo built up before a Direct a few years ago, when they used the Chibi Robo on fire meme, showing they knew EXACTLY what they were doing with their radio silence. I think news grows stale even quicker now then it did when the OG Switch was announced...so my guess is they'll be quiet these next few months, build anticipation, and fully unveil Switch 2 next March/April, with a console release of next September/October.
I can't imagine the budget/staff needed to make even ONE of the huge open-world games from the AC franchise...but having yearly or even bi-yearly releases seems like a huge risk. I'd take that franchise in a much smaller, more focused direction. I think it'd make for higher quality, and lower budget. Also, pick another franchise from their stable to alternate with, so that it's not AC overload. I don't like Farcry or Watchdogs personally, but maybe one of those, with smaller worlds and more focused gameplay. I think the huge open world concept takes way too high a budget to be business-sensible, and really doesn't seem to make for better experiences. I'd take a short, narrow, polished game like the RE remakes over any of the open-world stuff Ubi has put out.
Excited to see what this new team cooks up! One thing I hope they've learned from other indie studios is the ability to stay within their constraints. A passion project is great...but when it leaves the studio vulnerable to closure and layoffs because a game they bet everything on didn't sell a bajillion copies, that's not good for them or the industry. Aiming for too much can also result in a lack of quality control, resulting in a lot of great ideas that are poorly executed. The Shovel Knight team is a great example of a team staying within their limits and executing their vision well. Anyhoo, excited for this new studio and wish them the best of luck!
Lots of great games listed! The one newcomer for me is Mark of the Deep. I'd never seen it before today, and finding out it wasn't a roguelite sold me! There's been so many games that look great initially to me, but if they're a roguelite, my interest almost immediately vanishes.
Sigh, maybe it's just because I grew up on the NES, where MegaMan would slow to a crawl when too many enemies were on screen, or TMNT 2: Arcade would flicker characters in and out of visibility, yet were still amazing games... That measuring fps and resolution under a microscope to determine the quality of a game just doesn't resonate with me. There are infinitely more important things to me to be concerned about within a game than whether it's 20 or 60 fps. Is it fun? Is it innovative? Etc... I really miss those conversations between gamers and reviewers.
This looks awesome! I'm assuming there's a part 1? I've never heard of it, but I'm definitely looking into it! I do wish it was a more unique name for the title though... It sounds really generic and not up to the quality of the actual game.
I think that AI should have to play by the same copyright rules as everyone else. If I use a part of someone's art, voice, music, writing, etc... in my own "creation", then I'm bound by certain laws, rules, etc... If AI is pulling assets from other creators to create, it should follow suit, right?
So excited to play this! It looked amazing when it launched! I was tempted to import it and just wing it as far as the language barrier goes, so I'm glad it's getting localized! I hope there's a physical release too, I love that artwork!

Re: Take-Two Boss Shares Thoughts On 'Switch 2' And Backwards Compatibility
In Nintendo's past consoles, whenever backwards compatibility was a feature, there was usually a pretty significant change to the hardware/controller, as in a new "gimmick". For example:
GBA->DS / Dual Screen
GC-> Wii / Motion Controls
DS->3DS / Stereoscopic 3D
Wii->WiiU / Tablet
There was no "upgrade" or "enhancement" for the BC titles on the newer console. Ie, motion controls weren't implemented on GC titles, etc... This allowed Nintendo to re-release BC titles as a "new" game with the new console's gimmick, rather than just updating the BC titles.

Re: Feature: Here's 10 Games We Played At TGS 2024 Coming To Switch
Lots of great games listed! The one newcomer for me is Mark of the Deep. I'd never seen it before today, and finding out it wasn't a roguelite sold me! There's been so many games that look great initially to me, but if they're a roguelite, my interest almost immediately vanishes.
Re: Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom's Frame Rate Is "Even Worse" Than Link's Awakening
@RPGreg2600 Lol, exactly! Teenage me and my friends were too busy chasing each other through the Temple to notice the 4 FPS it probably dipped to.
Re: Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom's Frame Rate Is "Even Worse" Than Link's Awakening
Sigh, maybe it's just because I grew up on the NES, where MegaMan would slow to a crawl when too many enemies were on screen, or TMNT 2: Arcade would flicker characters in and out of visibility, yet were still amazing games... That measuring fps and resolution under a microscope to determine the quality of a game just doesn't resonate with me. There are infinitely more important things to me to be concerned about within a game than whether it's 20 or 60 fps. Is it fun? Is it innovative? Etc... I really miss those conversations between gamers and reviewers.
Re: '8-Bit Adventures 2' Looks Like A Solid Throwback To Old-School Final Fantasy
This looks awesome! I'm assuming there's a part 1? I've never heard of it, but I'm definitely looking into it! I do wish it was a more unique name for the title though... It sounds really generic and not up to the quality of the actual game.
Re: Bayonetta Star Jennifer Hale On The SAG-AFTRA Strikes: "AI Is Coming For Us All"
I think that AI should have to play by the same copyright rules as everyone else. If I use a part of someone's art, voice, music, writing, etc... in my own "creation", then I'm bound by certain laws, rules, etc... If AI is pulling assets from other creators to create, it should follow suit, right?
Re: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Remake Is Real, And It Looks Amazing
Golly. This looks amazing!!!
Re: SNK Getting Ready For The King Of Fighters "Big" 30th Anniversary
@HammerGalladeBro Lol!! SNK vs SNK would be such a hilarious title. I'm surprised no one has done something like that yet.
Re: Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live: Everything You Need To Know - Date, Time, Where To Stream
I think I remember hearing a brand new game from Sega is being unveiled around this time period? So maybe at Gamescom?
Re: Good-Feel's Goemon-Inspired Switch Game 'Bakeru' Is Getting Localised
So excited to play this! It looked amazing when it launched! I was tempted to import it and just wing it as far as the language barrier goes, so I'm glad it's getting localized! I hope there's a physical release too, I love that artwork!
