This looks so cool!!!! I have never played a game in this series, but this definitely jumped up onto my radar. I had no idea it was even out this week!
@Mgalens Ah, good thinking, you're probably right. I did read something about the frame pacing issues. It was weird, I don't think I've experienced that in other games. Hoping they're able to fix it, because it looks awesome other than that! Thanks for your reply!
In the demo, something about the camera movement felt off when my character would move through the environment. Like, I couldn't tell of it was jerky or too fast a move or something... Does that still happen in the final game? I'm not a FPS counting kinda person, 30 is fine for me, so I don't think that was the issue at all.
I played the demo on Series X and felt that it was a decent kart racer, but nothing mind-blowing. I quickly lost interest in it, tbh. The graphics are pretty, but the course layouts just didn't feel exciting to me, and it was kinda hard to see where to go at times. I think there's a wealth of good content in it, but if the actual racing doesn't feel fun, it's just not something I'd play a lot. On the other hand, Mario Kart World is insanely fun to play, imo. Racing around the courses and world feels incredibly fluid, and the ability to leap onto a wall and chart new paths feels so new and fresh. Replaying MK8 Deluxe showed me just how much I love the new racing mechanics of MKW. I think the 2 areas MKW stumbled are in its removal of a classic Grand Prix lap option, and the unlock progression for things. It would've been so awesome to find the racers on the open world map and challenge them to a 1v1 race to unlock them...to unlock karts as rewards for P challenges...that sorta thing. As it is now, the P challenges are fun, as is hunting down medallions, but the payoff just doesn't feel rewarding.
Sweet!!! The combat sounds really great, and is something I was concerned wouldn't be fun to play. This seems strategic and exciting, woohoo! I'm not worried about the graphics, as it looks clean and crisp, and the quick, steady framerate seems like a wise tradeoff for more detailed environments.
@Pat_trick @Ryu_Niiyama Thanks so much for the suggestion! I love NintendoLife and have followed them for years. I guess I'm just burnt out on the negativity these kinds of topics create. I'd probably have to just leave the internet though to get away from it, lol. Thanks again!
Sigh...that's the description tagline you're going with, Nintendo Life? The game looks absolutely INCREDIBLE, but you're choosing to highlight that it's a key card? That's so sad, what happened to you guys... Please get back to focusing on games and gameplay, instead of just feeding the rage topics. Maybe it's just time for me to look elsewhere for Nintendo things.
I'm happy that you guys got to play it and that it's looking good!
A ummmm, I dunno, wish or hope for the press in general: The press can totally shift perception of a game with headlines and statements. So when a negative comment about a pre-release product gets run rampant with by outlets that haven't even played it, it can really damage a game's reception, even when the final product turns out to actually be pretty great.
The above article shows the game in a good light, but just a few days ago this site shared a headline that conveyed the total opposite, though they hadn't even played it. There are game sales and ultimately people's jobs on the line... My hope is that rather than just trying to generate clicks, sites will report on things they actually have experienced, and maybe even wait until a final build of a game is ready before dishing out damaging headlines.
@Kojin Thank you for the reply. That's a good point, and I totally get the comparison. I guess for me though, a game is so much more than just FPS and resolution...but it seems like that is what gets focused on most. Like...is DK Bonanza always running at 60 fps? I have no idea, but the game is insanely fun. To me, things like gameplay design and art direction is what matters far more than whether a game dips from 30 to 25 fps in busy areas, ya know? I dunno, it's just sad to me that the conversations about games nowadays revolve around technical measurements.
I dunno...I feel like terms like "unplayable" and "runs poorly" get thrown around way too easily nowadays when covering games. A game dropping from 30 to 25 fps for a few moments gets blasted with negativity, which the press and internet just runs with though they haven't even played it themselves. Like, when did FPS and resolution measuring begin to determine whether the game was good or not? I dunno, I guess I grew up on NES, when things like that just didn't matter or even come up into conversations, it was just whether the game was fun or not.
Gosh...I really feel like I need to give the original another try. I played it in anticipation of it being something I'd love like a few other Metroidvanias...but sadly, it just didn't hook me. Certainly not a bad game, it just didn't resonate with me the way I thought it would.
@MatthewTaranto That's such a great description! Thank you for taking the time to give the info. It sounds like it could be super fun, maybe I just need to watch some more gameplay. Thanks again!
@quinnyboy58 I feel the same way. I'm happy people are stoked for this game, and I hope it does well...It looks pretty, but it seems like it'll get old quickly (like the original did, IMO). I feel like I'm just missing something though, lol. Can someone explain a bit more about why they think the game is so much fun? I'm genuinely hoping for a change of heart, lol!!!
Hi! I'm not trying to troll or instigate...but I feel like I'm missing something, lol! Like, I remember the og Kirby Air Ride being an okay game, but not amazing. I played it for a little, but got pretty bored, and never went back to it. This new Direct was wonderfully hosted, and gave lots of info...but it still isn't "hooking" me. Seeing all of you give the Direct 9s and 10s really makes me think I'm just missing something...can you tell me what you enjoy about the game?
I'm definitely excited we're getting a Direct, and am hopeful this turns out great...But I really don't remember enjoying the original that much. It just seemed okay, nothing amazing. It also didn't really seem to garner a lot of attention or high reviews when it originally came out. I guess I'm confused, lol...Like, am I missing something? This just seemed like a kinda decent, but not amazing game, to begin with.
I'm in agreement with being nervous over the entire game taking place in a city. One of my favorite parts of an RPG is visiting new places, and treading across a variety of landscapes that offer a wide range of visuals. I'm hoping there's some visual variety to Pokemon Legends ZA, as I'm super excited to try it!
@jojobar I totally get it. I am a big collector too, and bought a ton of Switch 1 games. I loved the physical collecting aspect of it. I truly hope devs are able and willing to make the switch to full on cart games, that would be the best! I just personally realized how bummed out I was getting over every GKC announcement, and how I was skipping on games I'd normally be so stoked to play, and decided I didn't want that to ruin my enjoyment of the otherwise stellar Switch 2 and it's growing library. I guess also, having lived through the droughts of past Nintendo consoles, I don't want to see a repeat of that...so I want to show my support, even if it's not in my ideal format.
I decided to not let Game Key Cards ruin my enjoyment of the Switch 2's growing catalog. I am SO PUMPED about several of the games shown during today's Direct, including Octopath Traveler. I don't want to allow the GKC thing to make me miss out on incredible games or show support to devs. With the amount of studios and layoffs from the last few years, I want to do what I can to support these awesome games/devs. I mean, gosh, during the WiiU days, we would've been doing cartwheels over just a handful of these games lol.
I'd love to see Clair Obscur, Metaphor, and Persona 3 Reloaded! I am curious what Team Asano is working on, so maybe we will see a new Project Triangle game? Non cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts would be amazing.
This is the most fun I've had with a game in a while, and brings back memories of when I first played Mario 64. The sense of wonder, discovery, and just pure fun of exploring every nook and cranny of the beautiful world is phenomenal. One of my absolute favorite games!
I don't love Game Key Cards, and definitely hope that we get more truly physical games... With that said, I came to the point where I just wanted to be fully enjoying the Switch 2 and all the great games it already has, regardless of the format. I recently bought Bravely Default HD after initially passing on it because of it being a GKC, and am so happy I picked it up.
When I look at other consoles and how I am almost immediately prompted to download something (campaign, patches, full game, etc...) when inserting a disc, I see that GKC are just more up front about what you're really getting in comparison to discs. Again, not saying I love GKC, and I definitely hope for more all-on-cart games...just saying I don't want to miss out on games, and that in comparison to other consoles, they're not that different.
It's definitely true that the traditional console industry can be precarious, but I think PC and mobile present their own challenges as well. One trend on console/PC that I think needs to be scaled waaaaaay back are these gargantuan, hyper realistic games that require huge teams and tons of money to make. It's just not sustainable, and comes with such huge risks for a studio. Games from the 8 and 16 bit era were much simpler, and required less budget, which resulted in a lot of innovation and healthy growth. Somewhere along the way, studios began to strive for hyper realism with huge worlds and 100 plus hours of content...which has created such a precarious situation to be in. I think a return to smaller games that live within reasonable budgets will help the industry experience sustainability and growth again.
I feel like there are more ways to avoid the blue shell now, such as mushrooms, to-go-lunches, and horn. Nobody loves the blue shell...unless you're the one who gets it. I think it's good game design to find ways of keeping the playing field balanced, and encourages new players to keep trying. Nothing fun about games where you're constantly destroyed almost instantly unless you've poured countless hours into it like a lot of online games.
I saw the review posted and got excited that this meant the game was complete, but it sounds like it's still a work in progress. I don't love this approach to releasing the game in bursts, tbh. It feels kinda confusing to market it this way, especially if you're more of a casual type gamer not up to date with gaming news. Happy to hear it's as good as it looks though, and looking forward to when it's complete!
@Michael0916 Thank you for the input! I can definitely see the benefits of all digital. I feel like it's all moving that direction realistically, as games get larger and storage medium gets pricier. It makes sense for devs to cut costs where they can.
Hey y'all, I need your help making a decision! I don't love the game key cards, and I've ended up skipping several games that I otherwise would've purchased day one because of it. However, I've come to the place where I really just want to be fully enjoying my S2 and all the games it has to offer, and am trying to just move past my dislike of GKC. My question is, should I: A) Go the full on digital route B) Go the full on Game Key Card route
I think there's subtle differences and pros and cons to each, so I'd love your help deciding. Thank you!
@Sambuc I think a lot of Switch 1 owners who bought physical choose physical because of things like game preservation, if the servers shut down, etc... I think that audience is a key demographic for Switch 2 as well. Having a Game Key Card release loses that appeal for those physical collectors. There was a reason to preorder or purchase those fully on cart games beyond just playing the game, but that reason doesn't exist anymore. I think iit s a big reason why sales are low for anything but Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk. Personally speaking, I would have bought at least 3 other titles for S2 if they had been fully on cart. You are correct in that PS5 and XBox games have been partial downloads for a while now, but I think it's just a very different audience.
Ok...I need some help making a decision, fellow Switch 2 fans. As bummed as I am about Game Key Cards being so prevalent, I think it's time I get past that. I want to be be fully enjoying my S2 and all the great games on it, not skipping out on games just because they're GKC. My question is, should I go the full digital route, or the GKC route. There are some subtle differences between the 2, and I'd like your help making this change. Thank you!
I definitely don't think it's based on Mario Kart or that Nintendo console owners only purchase Nintendo software. I firmly believe that many of us prefer physical copies, and that game key card issue has been a huge deterrent. I would've loved to purchase at least 3 of the other launch games, but I didn't because they're game key cards. I ended up getting one of them on Switch 1 purely because of that reason. Sigh. I don't know if S1 was the last era of purely on cart games, and I just need to get with the times...but I hope something changes soon.
Wow...it's been a while that I've had such a 180 with a game. The initial reveal didn't really grab my interest the way I hoped a new 3D DK game would, and I was on the fence about whether I'd even get it at some point down the road. Cut to today, and it's become my most anticipated game of the year (after FF Tactics of course, but nothing is beating that gem, lol). I loved everything shown in today's Direct. The exploration, the variety of levels and small courses, the chainable transformations, the collectibles, and the cherry on top...Pauline. Her partnership with DK and the heart behind it all absolutely blew me away. I cannot wait to play the heck out of this game!
I do wish characters or karts were part of the incentive to exploring the world map. Once I realized that stickers were the only incentive, I kinda stopped playing free roam so much. The P challenges themselves are really fun though, and have taught me some neat shortcuts and tricks. And the way the world map connects all the courses through World Tour mode is amazing. I'd love to see even more routes made available over time.
Let's go!!!! I'm excited, but also nervous about this game. I'm hoping the Direct shows some things to alleviate my concerns, such as: -More DK themed worlds, like jungle/temple/beach, etc... I haven't loved the world's shown so far. -Good ole platforming. The destruction is fun, but I worry that there isn't a lot of jumping over bottomless pit platforming and creative hazards to be overcome, and that it's all just based on destroying the level...which seems like it'd get repetitive.
I am loving MK World! It's the most fun I've had with a Mario Kart game probably since Mario Kart 64. I think World Tour mode is an amazing addition, and adds such a fun variety to the races. I think the one misstep for me is that Grand Prix isn't the usual 3 laps on one track. The new tracks are amazing, but you don't get to race on them a lot. I would've loved to see them keep Grand Prix the same as in past games, and add some more routes to World Tour. Other than that though, I'm loving it!
@SuntannedDuck2 Ooooh, nice list!! I've played some of the ones you mentioned and really enjoyed them. I am definitely more of a fan of older racers, where there was a variety of tracks. Like, a track by the ocean, a nighttime city track, a forest track, a sunset lake track, etc... A lot of modern racers I feel are missing that variety. Thank you again for all the great info and time you spent making these lists!
I absolutely could've just missed them saying this, I just quickly watched it on my break, but does it say in the trailer that it's single player only, or was that info somewhere else? I only remember them saying it was a spinoff.
@SuntannedDuck2 Wow!!!! This was such an amazing summary and explanation of what to expect in this game, as well as where to find something with some more content. Thank you for all the great info, and for the other racer recommendations. I'll definitely be checking some of those other Ridge Racers out, and maybe just wait for a sale on this one. Thanks again!!
@norwichred Ah, gotcha! So there is some variety to the layout depending on the difficulty you choose. That makes perfect sense, thank you for clarifying that for me!
@UltraCombo I know right?!?! That's so awesome! I thought of this thread the moment I saw the announcement! And with Digital Eclipse handling it, you know it's going to be amazing.
We should mention things we sigh for on this site more often, lol!
Eww...One of the many things I love about Nintendo is that their games aren't on PC (not talking emulators, etc..). You know the one place to play Nintendo games is going to be on a Nintendo console, which really enhances the brand loyalty imo.
Looks beautiful!! It makes me wish Nintendo would release a new FZero game, but this definitely helps fill the void. I didn't love the way the vehicles controlled in the original Fast RMX, but maybe I just didn't give it enough time? I just remember it felt like controlling a boat rather than an FZero type vehicle.
Definitely more jungle, temple, forest type levels. Also...while destroying everything seems fun, I really want some good ole platforming. I want to jump over spikes, swing across chasms, dodge falling traps. I worry if you can just destroy everything, there won't be much need or focus on actual platforming.
One thing I hope changes with MK dlc in the future is that there are no "guest characters" from non-mk franchises. I know this is a personal preference, but I feel that the MK universe is full of awesome characters that all fit in together, that I'd much rather play as. Throwing in Homelander, Scream guy, etc... is funny, but I feel like weakens the overall experience. I am probably in the minority, but just my opinion.

B) Go the full on Game Key Card route
I think there's subtle differences and pros and cons to each, so I'd love your help deciding. Thank you!
Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy Devs Supposedly Hint At Another Nintendo Release
Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy Devs Supposedly Hint At Another Nintendo Release
I would love to play FF 13, 15, and 16 on Switch 2! I am not at all interested in 14 though...
So that's probably the one we'll get, lol.
Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"
Ok...I need some help making a decision, fellow Switch 2 fans. As bummed as I am about Game Key Cards being so prevalent, I think it's time I get past that. I want to be be fully enjoying my S2 and all the great games on it, not skipping out on games just because they're GKC. My question is, should I go the full digital route, or the GKC route. There are some subtle differences between the 2, and I'd like your help making this change. Thank you!
Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"
I definitely don't think it's based on Mario Kart or that Nintendo console owners only purchase Nintendo software. I firmly believe that many of us prefer physical copies, and that game key card issue has been a huge deterrent. I would've loved to purchase at least 3 of the other launch games, but I didn't because they're game key cards. I ended up getting one of them on Switch 1 purely because of that reason. Sigh. I don't know if S1 was the last era of purely on cart games, and I just need to get with the times...but I hope something changes soon.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Donkey Kong Bananza For Switch 2?
Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?
I do wish characters or karts were part of the incentive to exploring the world map. Once I realized that stickers were the only incentive, I kinda stopped playing free roam so much. The P challenges themselves are really fun though, and have taught me some neat shortcuts and tricks. And the way the world map connects all the courses through World Tour mode is amazing. I'd love to see even more routes made available over time.
Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Direct Revealed For Wednesday, 18th June 2025
Let's go!!!! I'm excited, but also nervous about this game. I'm hoping the Direct shows some things to alleviate my concerns, such as:
-More DK themed worlds, like jungle/temple/beach, etc... I haven't loved the world's shown so far.
-Good ole platforming. The destruction is fun, but I worry that there isn't a lot of jumping over bottomless pit platforming and creative hazards to be overcome, and that it's all just based on destroying the level...which seems like it'd get repetitive.
Re: Best Mario Kart Games Of All Time
I am loving MK World!
Re: Review: Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer (Switch 2) - Still A Thrill, More Than 30 Years Later
Re: Splatoon Raiders, A New Splatoon Spin-Off, Is Confirmed For Switch 2
I absolutely could've just missed them saying this, I just quickly watched it on my break, but does it say in the trailer that it's single player only, or was that info somewhere else? I only remember them saying it was a spinoff.
Re: Review: Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer (Switch 2) - Still A Thrill, More Than 30 Years Later
Re: Review: Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer (Switch 2) - Still A Thrill, More Than 30 Years Later
@norwichred Ah, gotcha! So there is some variety to the layout depending on the difficulty you choose. That makes perfect sense, thank you for clarifying that for me!
Re: Review: Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer (Switch 2) - Still A Thrill, More Than 30 Years Later
Oh rats...There's only one track to race on? Or am I misunderstanding what circuit means?
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev NetherRealm Confirms It's Shifting Focus To "Next Project"
@UltraCombo I know right?!?! That's so awesome! I thought of this thread the moment I saw the announcement! And with Digital Eclipse handling it, you know it's going to be amazing.
We should mention things we sigh for on this site more often, lol!
Re: Random: Xenoblade Chronicles X Pops Up On Microsoft PC Game Page
Eww...One of the many things I love about Nintendo is that their games aren't on PC (not talking emulators, etc..). You know the one place to play Nintendo games is going to be on a Nintendo console, which really enhances the brand loyalty imo.
Re: Fast Fusion Launch Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look At Switch 2 Gameplay
@Danrenfroe2016 Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely need to revisit it and try out your suggestions.
Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?
Picking up a camera too! I'm really excited for Game Chat to play with my family that lives far away.
Re: Fast Fusion Launch Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look At Switch 2 Gameplay
Looks beautiful!! It makes me wish Nintendo would release a new FZero game, but this definitely helps fill the void. I didn't love the way the vehicles controlled in the original Fast RMX, but maybe I just didn't give it enough time? I just remember it felt like controlling a boat rather than an FZero type vehicle.
Re: Video: Diddy Kong, Tunes & Vines - Here's Everything We Want From Donkey Kong Bananza
Definitely more jungle, temple, forest type levels. Also...while destroying everything seems fun, I really want some good ole platforming. I want to jump over spikes, swing across chasms, dodge falling traps. I worry if you can just destroy everything, there won't be much need or focus on actual platforming.
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev NetherRealm Confirms It's Shifting Focus To "Next Project"
@UltraCombo I'd love to see a remastered collection like that!
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev NetherRealm Confirms It's Shifting Focus To "Next Project"
