Ever since Joker was announced as a DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there have been ongoing rumours about Atlus bringing the mainline Persona series to the Nintendo Switch. While the fifth entry was the one previously listed by online retailers, it seems the attention has now turned to the fourth game.
Why is this, exactly? Well, if you hadn't already heard the news, the PS Vita title Persona 4 Golden appears to be arriving on PC on 13th June. Information about this leaked earlier today and was then seemingly confirmed by multiple sources and games media outlets. Despite the fact there's been no mention of a Switch release, there's been a lot of talk on social media since then about how PC has potentially got a mainline Persona game before the hybrid system.
Of course, there's no guarantee Persona 4 Golden will be a PC-only release, but there are some theories out there that Atlus may not port Persona 4 Golden to anything else. For now, though, here's a round-up of some of the reactions to this news:

Atlus is expected to make this official at the PC Game Show on 13th June. Would you like to see it eventually bring the fourth Persona entry across to the Switch? How do you feel about a PC port? Tell us below.

Just had to get this information on Nintendolife somehow, eh? I'm not mocking you or anything, but nobody here should get their hopes up. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that this or any Persona game could come to Switch. Keep your expectations in check and you won't be upset.
Baby steps, Nintendo Life... baby steps.
Atlus gonna pull an EA? Release their product everywhere else first, then finally release this on Switch - it wont sell like it did when it was new - and some corporate stooge will come out and say:
"nIntendoh fans dun wan our gamez! C, it no sel well on Suwitch!"
I consider it insulting that we got Joker in Smash and Atlus refuses to release a main line Persona game on Switch.
@VeggieJoe It would though
At least the people saying that Persona 5 can't come to Switch since Persona is a Sony-exclusive can shut the hell up now.
@Entrr_username to be fair they always seem to say that with just about any game they have interest in
I would love the main Persona series on switch but I don't think it's ever going to happen.
You don't realize that it takes time to render a game as massive as Persona 4 and put it into a Nintendo Switch card. The reason they put it on PC first is to appease the PC players that wanted Golden. We'll probably have to wait 6-8 months before we can get news in a possible Switch port.
@Torakaka From what I gathered, Persona 4 Golden is barely 4 GB. You clearly don't know what you're talking about if a game from 2012 at that size would have trouble running on a Switch
they're announcing persona 4 golden for pc at a pc event, doesn't mean it wont also come to other platforms, it seems like a waste of effort to remaster it to modern standards then release it just on pc, i expect at least a ps4 version too, hopefully also switch
@Torakaka source ?
@VeggieJoe to be fair, Persona 4 Golden IS a portable game
I’m sure there is some financial deal going on between Sony and Atlas locking this series exclusively on PS, at least as far as consoles goes. We all should know by now the industry sees PC as a separate thing and not as console competition.
@Tharsman thats what i figured too, if the whole pc port of older games i been reading about holds any weight.
If only this were available to play in a portable way. Oh well, guess I'll just have to stick with Lumines, sigh....
Persona 4 Golden is my personal favorite. Such a great story.
Of any Persona game. I only liked and played Persona 4 Golden, but never managed to find the time to finish it back in the day and would buy it in an instant if it were to come to the Switch.
I know it's selfish, bit hopefully they will still not release those games on switch yet xD I just got the day one edition of P5Royal for PS4 from my mother as a birthday present and got P4Golden for Vita a few weeks back xD give me time to finish my backlog plz
Even though it's not happening this year it's still e3 season. Publishers normal pick one of the platform holders to show their trailer on then release the trailer after with all versions on. This year Sony is only showing ps5 and Microsoft doesn't seem to be doing anything so the only stage left is the pc show
@Tharsman Yet the spin-offs are on other systems.
I’m sure that they will be released on PS4 and switch. It's money. And Sega loves money.
*shrugs
If it happens, it happens.
Tbf, us PC folks have been begging for it, for far longer. Still, hope it comes to switch as well.
I feel so distant from the Nintendo community right now. I never get this port begging. It's just stupid.
@Entrr_username Q was on a handheld, seriously doubt we will see a Q3 on Switch, but who knows.
Scramble, might have canon connections but it’s at the end a licensed Warriors game.
@sanderev to be fair: Atlus of America community rep basically told the community they had to beg louder if they ever want the series on the switch.
If there is a licensing lockdown, it seems to be kept kinda secret between Sony and Atlus in Japan.
@Tharsman Still on a different system. It makes no sense to have the spin-offs on a different system yet not the main titles.
Hahaha triggered. Brilliant.
@Tharsman
Atlus West holds absolutely no power. Atlus sees the West as secondary and their primary audience is Japan first. This is exactly why localization takes so long because they simply don't bother with translations at the same time as working on the game.
An example of a company that cares is how Nintendo treated Fire Emblem for the West. FE Path of Radiance (the game where Ike is from) was the first game in the series with voice acting and thus, they had to get English voice actors. But Nintendo of America worked closely with NoJ and it resulted in the game coming out just a few months after the Japanese version (April 2005 vs October 2005), and from then on, every game in the series strived to come out in the West within a few months of their Japanese counterparts and Three Houses is the first one to release worldwide on the same day. (July 26, 2019)
@Torakaka
“it takes time to render a game as massive as Persona 4 and put it into a Nintendo Switch card.”
It takes time to render Persona 4 Golden, the PS Vita game (originally a PS2 game), that was on a PS Vita card, to a Switch card? Is this sarcasm?
I'm quietly hopeful that this game coming out on PC is a sign of change from Atlus and that they'll also be bringing it to Switch. I played it on Vita and it's one of my favourite games. I'd jump at the chance to play it again!
"Why not on switch?", because Nintendo doesn't need every popular game! OK U NONE PERSONA fans.
Anyways l can't wait to try it on pc, l haven't play P4 in awhile.
I'd love for them to bring the Digital Devil series and definitely Nocturne (Lucifers Call) but I can't see that ever happening.
If Switch never get P5, which I can't see happening anymore, I hope it eventually gets P3 and P4. P3 Especially since I didnt ever finish it.
As a follower of not only the Persona series but Atlus, I am very happy that it expands to new platforms but seriously, won't they bring the Persona series to Switch? People are literally asking you not only P5 but the whole series, there are times that I don't understand you Atlus ...
l can't stand these people begging like whining dogs
guys, remember that it was also a ps2 game.
Of on switch, i would buy every one of it.
On PC i only play Ghost recon breakpoint, asassins creed (all) and battlefield.
Switch is perfect for games like persona.
@JR150
It's definitely another of their clutching at straw articles, but I can't complain, I have a PC and this is the first I'm hearing about it.
@Mr_Persona Yeah l can't stand it either! xD Whine whine all the time
It could be a situation like when Final Fantasy 7,9,10 and 12 got announced for Switch during a Direct, and later that day also got announced for XBox. P4G getting announced for PC will bring viewers to their PC gaming showcase, and perhaps later it will be revealed for consoles as well. Kind of like a "first look exclusivity" type of deal.
@Torakaka You really think a game that runs perfectly fine on a PS Vita would struggle on switch? what?
If it's a PS2 game ported to Vita then I could definitely see the first step in getting the game on PS4/5, Xbox and Switch would be to port it to PC first.
Once it's up and running on PC with the code base modernised and using the latest rendering techniques and libraries it will be easier to then port to other platforms.
While it would be nice to get main series Persona on the Switch, not holding my breath. What we're seeing here is part of Sony's strategy to branch out to PC. Various big PS4 exclusives are either coming to PC (e.g. Horizon Zero Dawn) or rumoured to be coming to PC (e.g. Bloodborne) so bringing main series Persona to PC may be part of that strategy.
@Mr_Persona Imagine being as jealous and dumb as you. Poor boy i feel sorry for you.
As much as I loved my playthrough of this on vita, it’s the kinda game that I wouldn’t want to play again. For some reason.
Forget about Switch; has P4G heen ported to the PS4?
@Grumblevolcano wouldn't they bring persona 5 royal to pc then rather than persona 4 golden
I don´t really like Persona, but I think it´s insane that there´s no game from the series on Switch yet, specially P5 since we have Joker in Smash and we´ll get the sequel...
So yeah, if they are taking the main series out of Playstation, it´s a good time to ask for it. It will likely come to Switch if they see there´s interest.
@mariomaster96 Well Persona 4 Golden isn't even on PS4, Atlus may see an opportunity to release on PS4 and PC at the same time. Kind of like how plenty of 360/PS3 games ported to Switch come as a result of being ported to XB1/PS4.
I would like the games to come out on the Switch too, but yeah, all those people are really annoying and pretty much cringeworthy.
Eh, I wouldn't be too upset if Persona 4 Golden was only coming to PC. With Persona 5 Scramble Western Release getting announced this month it seems like Atlus is trying to find ways to please PS4, Switch and PC with some Persona content.
Catherine has been out on PC for over a year before it lands on Switch, so don't lose all hope! Maybe in 2021 Switch owners can finally play the Persona game that they're kind of asking for.
And yet you failed to include my tweet on this article.
https://twitter.com/TechaTecha/status/1270555298080514049
Can't wait for it to only sell like half a million units on PC.
It's free marketing. Catherine announced on Switch: no one care and people start trashtalking the game. Persona not announced on Switch: big discussions everywhere: make people think the game is great. The Switch is the target Sony want to destroy and anything touching it will be cursed in internet discussions.
Atlus puts another nail in the coffin of the never substantiated "Persona is Sony exclusive" conspirology, and Nintendo gamers still raise cain.
Never change, fans.
I have a Mac and I have a Switch (also iOS devices) if they want me to play, they're gonna have to make it available on a device I own. Going Sony and Windows means you get a whole lot of customers who aren't me.
persona on switch would be cool but even cooler on pc imo
@glaemay if you think Sony cares this much you're crazy 😂
If people had set aside a tenner or something for each month they have been yapping they could probably afford a PS4/PS Vita and Persona 5/4 by now.
PC is like the neutral zone where console exclusivity isn't a factor.
.....I'll take it.
I already tried playing Persona 5 on my PC through that Sony streaming service...but I didn't want to keep up with the subscription. (I just used the trial week)
It must be on it's way to Switch, eventually though now right? If it can come to PC.
Looking forward to this anyway!
There's a lot of Sony exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn, Tetris Effects, Nex Machina, etc on PC - it's a neutral platform, Sony don't care about it. But it will never be on a rival platform. Sony is not Microsoft, they are doing well and have no need to sell their games on Switch.
Nah, Sony be paying them hush money that's NDA'd to hell and back. Otherwise why do we not have any Persona games on Switch yet? 3 or 4 or ripe for conversion.
Or maybe they're not confident in there conversion skills? Maybe they don't want the expense of paying a specialist company.
Maybe they are about to be announced?
Really the only reason I would want this on Switch is because Joker is in Smash. I do find it mind boggling that Joker got in Smash but no proper Persona comes to Switch.
That said this is a PC show so really, it can still come. Although I'm not expecting it to.
@Lordplops Crys in PlayStation Vita
This series is the reason I have a Vita.
It would work very well on the switch.
Exclusivity is gone so go on might as well. Maybe PS3 portable too.
lemme say this one last damn time.
WE ARE GONNA GET SMT V ON SWITCH WHICH IS A DAMN NEW GAME
yeah getting persona games on the go is neat, but please stop begging to this extent, I bet half of you just watched the game and claimed you played them .
I got some very mixed feelings right now. I'm glad that I can play it on a platform that I have instead of getting tempted to piracy. On the other hand, it irritates me since I don't like playing on my PC (big and clumsy), so I really hope that it's coming to Switch as well
Let's not assume all series would do better if they were available on all platforms.
Persona as a series has a wild cult following, that might experience a level of disenchantment and loss of interest, if the series launch on Switch.
It might feel less specific and defining for them as players. It might hurt the platform specific sales. Might damage the air of mystique the brand holds, if Switch players were to take no shine to the series at all.
tl;dr
Stop port begging.
@NoTinderLife again, nothing has ever labeled Persona games as "a Sony exclusive". And while stuff like Horizon, being first party works, is never to be expected anywhere by default, it's quite hilarious to discuss Switch, a completely different machine from everything PlayStation to date (even including PSP and Vita), as a "rival" but call PC a "neutral platform" in regards to a streamlined custom AMD rig with native gamepads.
All while Sony runs polls curiously asking how many users would fancy PS4 Remote Play on Switch among other options.
@Pod that's the most unrelated tl; dr I've ever seen. Chasing publishers with pitchforks over unhappening ports is a symptom of rabid fanship to begin with, and speaking against it hardly belongs in the same comment as a rhetoric about respecting the rest of fan filth like "cult followings" avoiding "a level of disenchantment and loss of interest". These are the factors that ideally shouldn't exist in the same universe as a fiction franchise, let alone have a remote semblance of influence on it.
And as far as the brand's "air of mystique" goes (omitting the very question of how anything about PlayStation or any other gaming hardware could possibly make a mark therein), which supposed vessel of it is left to "preserve"? The gameplay after it went Nintenwards in Tokyo Mirage Sessions? Or the casts, concepts and multiverses after they went Nintenwards in satellites like Persona Q and P5 Scramble? None of them have spilt any of this "air of mystique", just like the "mainline" Persona games haven't spilt it after launching on PlayStation as a satellite series to the previously Nintendo-frequenting Shin Megami Tensei.
Tl; dr Port begging is wrong (as opposed to being in the market and unobtrusively voicing it), but so are fanship and cultism in general. And any kind of aggressively possessive reactions Sony fans could possibly have at the notion of Persona (or any other IP) on other platforms is irrelevant and worthless by nature.
@buarki12 Some of us don't care about how new a game is... besides, SMT and Persona have gotten quite different now. I personally don't like SMT games but love the latest Persona games (besides the Tokyo Mirage Sessions spinoff, but that's a given)
"Why not on Switch?"
Because playing it on PS VIta is better way.
@danemord you like what you like , im not here argue about that you hate them, which is your opinion and i respect that fully , for me i played p5r / tms #fe and some nocturne before my emulator got cocky
@danemord what i meant about us having a "new game" is in a way that atlus really spend their time and money to bring who bought the switch a brand new game that is only the switch (i hope) , I just want to try a brand new smt game on a consle that i only thought of buying it is for smash (but then played most of the exclusives and for me now it's justifed)
@Entrr_username he knows not what he is saying.
@Snivy102 Absolutely! Don't get me wrong I would enjoy playing P3 and P4 on my switch just as much as most peeps here would. Just sad seeing fans getting angry over it not coming to their platform of choice. Same as Bayonetta "fans" getting upset over Bayonetta 2 being on Wii U
@ReikoMortis This guy is asking the important questions
Here comes another round of port begging and arm chair analyses. Watching people contort logic to explain why something that clearly isn't going to happen is going to happen is a bunch of fun.
So these are just rumors. Also you can already play persona games on the go. It's calledthe vita. And to be fair pc has a larger audience.
@nhSnork
I do agree.
My point is that these decisions are the publisher's to make, and they are free to make them for whichever reasons they see fit.
They're free to give in to port begging, as annoying as we perceive it to be, and they're free to keep doing what works if they believe it will help them maintain a fanbase/profit/whatever.
I'm mainly trying to say that this whole thing with being upset with publishers for not releasing on a certain platform, or arguing why they ought to do it, it all seems less like interest in a certain game, than it seems like platform elitism and entitlement.
I'm not trying to say that we ought to hold a higher regard for the sentiments of the players on the original platform. I'm saying that doing so is one of many things the publishers might consider, and that they are perfectly in their right to do so.
@VeggieJoe It's just a rumor, why are people so tilted?
This is my second favorite game of all time (right behind The Last of Us). I'd love if it came to Switch. Unfortunately, it won't happen — and I'm not going to dwell on hoping it will. If I ever want to replay it I'll bring out my Vita.
Idk why this is on a Nintendo news site. You never see anything remotely like this on Pushsquare. Then again, they're rabid fans there.
At least we got Catherine. There was such a crazy demand for a Switch port and Atlus delivered!
I understand why nintendofans are upset, but for me - i really don't care about p4 and p5, p3 would be awesome on switch, but still i prefer SMT V, on which we have zero news last 2 years...
I really don’t like the port begging.
But I guess people like their ***** on other plastic. Did you want to play this on the big screen? You should have bought a cheap Playstation TV (which was on sale for 20). You wanted it portable? You can always buy that enormous beautiful PSVita.
But I guess people think they need or expect developers to release every game on Switch. Developers are not obliged to do so.
Imagine being such an ideologically driven company that you’ll avoid the millions of dollars you’d make on Switch despite Nintendo bending over backwards for you.
@buarki12 There's no need to argue, it's just a game
@JessicaSKY You see, many Nintendo fans are quite hooked on a Persona game, especially after the character reveal for SSB:U. At the same time, Atlus are very vague with whether they are considering the Persona games for the Switch or not and also indicate that they don't know if Switch owners want their games. Even with Scramble, which got released in Japan, they asked whether gamers would consider a localized version.
Personally I think it's just a huge PR stunt. Heck, Scramble already has a localized logo, so it's just a matter of time. I don't believe that Atlus or Sega are run by a bunch of idiots. They are business men, they know that Switch games sell a lot. If you think about it, The whole "persona-on-switch" deal has gotten huge... what happens then if they finally reveal the games? it would definitely sell like hot bread.
Theres nothing wrong with wishing a game was on a current gen console or a specific one.
Like what's the big deal with all the hating.
People are passionate fans of certain franchises and are expressing their interest in potentially buying it for a console they have if it came to it.
Which probably does help sway developers.
As long as not death threats and other rubbish
If you're not interested in it I dont see what the big deal is
Would love this on the switch, best jrpg series to date and should be on all platforms to boost its already stellar sales
Is Persona any good? I didn't really like Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It was the first game I ever sold on Switch....
What’s up with people exaggerating about port begging here? You guys are annoying lmao, this is an article about a non-Nintendo game on a Nintendo Life article. Of course people are going to discuss the possibility of it coming to a Nintendo console, especially since said game is obviously NOT PlayStation exclusive anymore. If people were begging for Persona in every unrelated article I’d understand, but I only see it in articles specifically about Persona. I don’t know how you could consider that port begging.
PS4, Switch, I don't care what system it releases on, just let me buy a physical copy of this game without it being for the PS Vita that I stopped using after finishing P4G!
The term "port begging" was invented by overprotective fanboys that see their favourite games going to a console they don't have as devaluing the game somehow. The whole thing is super weird.
I want Persona on Switch because I want P5 on the go and P4G not locked to a dead system. Also put them on Xbox so more people can enjoy a series I love.
Meanwhile, I'm too lazy to get out my Switch to play SMO again
PC will get all the old JRPG's, however it seems Atlus is late to the party(probably licensing issues) Either way porting it to switch doesn't matter to me, bring it here to keep the masses quiet.
This situation is simply unbearable!
@The__Goomba that's not right. Port beggars a fanboys, who don't wanna buy another system, but want to play in it's exclusive games. That's why they continue their pointless and annoying begging.
The more JRPGs that come to PC the better
I have a switch, but hopefully one day Nintendo will wake up and put Fire Emblem and Xenoblade on PC too
I never gave this enough love on my Vita. To restart or to pick up from where I left it?
They re-released Catherine first for PC before announcing the Full Body version for Switch. There's hope, people.
I just want them to release Persona games on Switch so people will finally SHUT UP about it. No offense, but it's gotten kind of tiring.
P4G is a good game, let me comment.
Mean while I'm just waiting for news about SMTV.....
@Anvold I would also say that it's usually secondaries that are more interested in a game because it's popular right now than because of the game itself.
There's always going to be at least three people in the comments here trying to shoot down the possibility of ports to the Switch.
Persona 5 not being on Switch is somewhat understandable, but P4G was on Vita, which is comparable in power (I think a bit less powerful, in fact) than the Switch. Regardless, P4G is getting added to my Steam wish list.
Atlus hates Nintendo
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
@JokerCK says the one who is dumb and jealous and yeah l'm pointing that out on you for saying that to that member who actually owns all the Persona games.
@SmileMan64 Yeah it is a good game and a sad game because how the ending could be if you choose the bad path.
In all seriousness I'm super happy P4G is getting a second chance at all
As much as I love my PS Vita it always baffled me that considering its meager install base it wasn't even given a remaster of any kind on PS4 after P5 blew up and went completely mainstream
it being on Steam and possibly Persona 3 as well is basically setting it up for guaranteed success considering how well other JRPGs like the Tales games and Final Fantasy do on there as well
I think it's funny how everyone harasses Atlus to bring P5 to switch when it's not their decision it's Sony's. If you don't believe me watch the video by Video Game Story Time about why Persona 5 isn't on the switch.
@EdwardElric It's actually not Sony's decision at all
They don't own anything in regards to Persona outside the distribution rights for the anime which are completely different from game rights
If Sony owned Persona the games wouldn't be published by Atlus but Sony Interactive Entertainment instead
@ArcticSin
Different situation. Those are Nintendo IPs and Nintendo never puts their IPs on PC. Daemon X Machina isn't their IP so that was able to be ported to PC.
Well...considering that P4G is considered by many to be the best of the series, its about time it got an HD remake and released on something other than the failed VITA. I myself played in on PSTV and it looked 'OK' upscaled to HD but surely could use a true modern remake.
As to the Switch....first off P4G would be brilliant on Switch and again considering VITA was a market failure (13M units sold) you would think a publisher would want to take a hot property and give it life on a new platform. As for PC....umm the PC market is probably like the XBOX market in Japan....minimal. I would really expect that if they went to the trouble to update it for PC then PS4 and Switch would be a no brainer if they want much better sales in Japan. As for P5...remember this game also came out for PS3 and ran acceptably.....given the quality current and last gen ports coming to Switch there is ZERO reason why P5 couldn't be well ported.
As for al this port begging discussion nonsense.....geez...someone has a hot property and people want it....Sega/Altus should just tell them to go suck a lemon and never port it? Switch has now outsold ps4/ps4pro in Japan and has close to 60mil units WW. Sega/Altus are about as stubborn as EA and Activision. I guess they would rather play coy and act like ***** then make money. Much bigger games like the recently released BioShock and Borderlands compilations as well as Switcher and Skyrim took less than 1yr to port...…..P4G and P5 could have been done and selling well on Switch but I guess farming this out to a quality port team and then making big money is just too much trouble.
To those 'commending' Sega on doing good business....umm no, Sega has traditionally been idiots business wise. Their best days were the all the way back in the Genesis days. They have biffed just about everything since and Altus wasn't too swift either as they were pretty much going under when Sega bought them. Sega had great IPs and pretty much has spent all the years since Dream Cast pissing them away. So please don't tell me Sega are smart businessmen because they refuse to bring Altus' hot properties to Switch....Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind, Shenmue, Phantasy Star, Daytona, GT, the list goes on and on of all the great properties they have just let rot on the vine. And they made two good 3D Sonics (on DC) and then have just butchered the hell out of everything else accept the 2D redo of a few years ago. I won't hold my breath waiting for a Switch release.....hell will we ever even get the SMT5 game that was shown at Switch launch....that has been over 3yrs ago now.
@TheFrenchiestFry But Sony thinks of Persona 5 as a signature game for their platform. Atlus wants to put Persona 5 on the switch but Sony has the console rights to it.
@JR150 yeah I know it's a different situation. I just really want to know what would happen if Nintendo DID port a first party game to PC.
I bought a vita mainly to play P4 golden! I don't regret it though. Its much better to play it in your bed. Cant stand on pc so many hours
@nhSnork Probably because they still refuse to do so despite there actually being interest. Lets not forget the last Persona game to come out on a Nintendo anything was Persona Q 2 here.
@MegaVel91 Persona 5 Scramble has been a thing on Switch since February and nothing suggests it won't get localized. Can't wait for the stars to align above the rest, try to rainfall it - but angry rants aren't excused by any amount of interest they're supposedly trying to convey. Nor by publisher inaction - it's up to them, abd there may be most varied obstacles from the perceived "interest" not being deemed sufficient to other budget priorities always showing up. There are zero obligations between a hypothetical release and a hypothetical audience.
Be grateful that it got ported at all.
I'll never understand why wanting to play a 3rd party game on someone's system of choice is labeled "port begging" and is considered to be a bad thing. I have a Vita and own P4G on it, but I'd double dip in a heartbeat if it was on Switch. I also don't expect the majority of gamers who don't even own a Vita to buy a dead system just to play it.
This is good news and hopefully it means we eventually see it and P5R land on Switch.
I'll wait on a switch port. If it doesn't show, I save money...win-win.
Hoping for SMT:V news this year.
@Heavyarms55 It's right up there with the Square Enix logic for why Chrono Trigger wouldn't receive (another) sequel. The $40 DS port didn't sell exceptionally well, at a time when the game was readily available for the PlayStation in a duo pack with Final Fantasy IV for at most $20 (and often more like $10) and emulation was rampant. Not to mention many taking issue with paying $40 for what was essentially a Super Nintendo ROM (which Nintendo was selling other regularly for $8 on the Wii, making the value proposition seem low).
But the initial sales of the game the first two times didn't matter. The DS port wasn't a hit so it must mean fans hate Chrono Trigger. It's the only logical conclusion.
@Ryu_Niiyama This. I have enough games to play as is. And I have far less time to sit in front of a computer these days.
buncha switch cry babies. YOU GUYS NEVER CARED EVER FOR PERSONA UNTIL JOKER SHOWED UP IN SMASH WHY? SAKURAI LOVES THE GAME. you guys act like you are owed it. play it on their respective systems. stop whining you guys make me really hate the nintendo community
@RPGamer calm down. you nintendo babies NEVER cared for persona until joker showed up in smash. sakurai put him in because he LOVES the game. not because its nintendo babies want it God yu guys are so annoying.
@KryptoniteKrunch The whole concept behind port begging is on the level of people accusing you of being a tryhard in a game when you do better than them. It's just straw grasping because they have no real ammunition to fight over, yet still want to try to insult you. And for whatever reason, the "console wars" have always been so nerdishly charged among the internet bottom feeders.
Personally, I saw port anything and everything third party to every system out there, if it's financially feasible. More options are better for gamers. No reason to begrudge fans a particular game because they weren't one of the "cool kids" who owned X system.
Gosh, if I had a dollar for every time a Wii U elitist complained about their console being insulted/devalued because a new port to Switch was announced...
Edit: Right as I post this, a comment slips in above mine making this exact claim. "AMG PLAY THE GAME ON THE ORIGINAL SYSTEM OR GTFO NERDS", basically. Heh.
@NathanTheAsian theres always going to be 25 whiners who think they are persona fans that never cared for persona until joker showed up in smash. joker was put in because sakurai loved the game
@DarkLloyd so you where all about not updating your switch for animal crossing, but you who never cared for persona on switch is demanding it on switch just because joker is in smash which sakurai straight up said he put him because he loves the game? im sick of these whining people
@JR150 thank you anytime persona shows up somewhere else nintendo life whines.....like stop it. go play animal crossing!
@NintendoPok Gatekeeper NintendoPok, reporting for duty! Gotta put those gamers in their place because they aren't as "OG" as you with their love of a franchise.
You know, it may come as a surprise to you, but a large number of the people on this site own Vitas and had PS2s and even have a PS4. Doesn't mean they wouldn't still enjoy seeing these games on their current portable of choice. But hey, you keep keeping on, brother. Someone has to make sure the normies don't get their hands on your precious games. Put them in their place!
@Deltath not gatekeeping. you guys whine and harass a company that owes you nothing. you guys never really cares for persona until smash why do you need it on switch? you cant do more than one system? im sorry youre missing out attacking a company does nothing but make the nintendo community seem foolish. you guys remind me of the gatekeepers for beatemups when nintendo cut tides with him. like knock it off PS scramble runs like trash on the switch dont believe? look at the PS4 comparison on youtube. im sorry youre butt hurt.
@Deltath sorry you cant play persona 5 royal. should i give you some spoilers the fact that your hurling insults at me? nah i wont.
@Heavyarms55 Nintendo choose Joker.
If it helps, even the PS4 isn't getting it for some God-forsaken reason...Atlus just kinda hates money sometimes, you know? That situation happens to the best of us sometimes...
Every time someone brings up "mainline Persona game on the PC", I am compelled to remind them that Persona 1 had a Windows port before it was cool.
Just give me something anything on shin megami tensei 5 and i can call it a day.
Would love to play it again on Switch, but if it comes to pc, will get it there.
I think people are missing Sega's strategy here. Yeah, maybe there's some sort of exclusivity for Persona in some kind of deal with Sony. But mostly I think this comes from Sega's push to PC to reach those big Asia markets - China, Korea, etc. where PC is huge and consoles are not widely adopted. It's not about bringing it to more platforms as much as about entering more countries, and a PC port was the only way to do that for some countries.
On the other hand I strongly, strongly, doubt either China or Korea would be very interested in a Japanese day to day life sim that revels in Japanese subcultures. And I doubt Sega's target market is Russia, so I'm still not sure who this new market is supposed to be. But I'm quite certain the port still is about new markets, not about more platforms to reach people on.
@EdwardElric They don't have the console rights to it at all
If Sony held the rights to Persona, Atlus wouldn't even be allowed to publish it on PC without SIE getting involved like what happened with HZD on Steam
That's all SEGA. Sony has next to no involvement with Persona outside A-1 Pictures producing the anime
@NintendoPok That's what l been saying too on how everyone out of no where wanted Persona games even they never heard about the games.
@RPGamer i can go where ever i want i think i hurt your feelings PS scramble cant run on the switch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoNRhm2XBZU
@TheFrenchiestFry If you watch the video I mentioned of Why Persona 5 isn't on Switch than you will get my point.
@TheFrenchiestFry Sony even put Persona 5 in their opening montage for their PS5 event which shows that they think of that game as one of their major killer apps.
@EdwardElric If you were looking carefully they also used FFVII Remake, which isn't technically a true exclusive, and Death Stranding, which was never meant to be a PS4 exclusive according to Kojima himself, in addition to stuff like MLB The Show which is also becoming multiplatform this year
They were only using that montage to highlight the best games from the PS4 in a celebratory manner
i hate ezereal so much. had to block her/him on twitter because she/he kept defending the bad state of outer worlds on switch. apparently stable framerate isn't important somehow and decent resolution either.
@RPGamer and Sega has a strategy that is focust on retaining and growing marketshare on pc.
Nintendo fans knocking on SEGA/Atlus door whining don’t seem like a good idea for the well-being of the Nintendo community.
Plus, before Smash there wasn’t that much interest and now people seem to expect them to do so and act butthurt.
@RPGamer
It is 100% SEGA's decision. SEGA owns Atlus.
@Pod "Persona as a series has a wild cult following, that might experience a level of disenchantment and loss of interest, if the series launch on Switch."
You are joking me, and I say this as a persona fan, and I bought persona 5 scramble on switch you seem to think that it's like persona fans don't already own a Nintendo Switch or you think that Persona fans in switch are fake because they never showed interest on persona until joker on Switch.
Never mind the persona Q games on 3ds you are ignorant or arguing that persona fans are not Nintendo fans yet SMT is on Nintendo consoles like Devil survivor duology and strange journey and IV as well as Apocalypse.
Persona is Megami Tensei you clearly have been mistaken on your hot takes.
Another reason I left this site but no another Argument made from incredulous evidence.
Tldr Persona fans own Nintendo switches too.
@Anvold patently untrue but good try, and I own p4G on Vita and Now PC.
@OmegaDestroyer was that sarcasm?
Personally I prefer Persona 4 Golden on PC over Catherine full body edition on Nintendo switch but I never played Catherine, I'm just buying it to not give Atlus a way out with a "Catherine failed to sell, no persona on switch" situation.
As much as I detest such lowly behaviour this is Atlus we are talking about here.
At least Catherine full body Nintendo switch edition has the Joker from persona 5 DLC added. And I did buy the Stray sheep edition for 360! Long time ago.
If Atlus wants to bring out another survey I will show them my undying desire to port all Atlus games to switch and PC. Atlus has not even ported anything SMT on switch yet. Or outside Japan either.
Scramble was a JP copy.
@RPGamer
Do you work at SEGA or Atlus? Do you know this for a fact?
What we do know is that SEGA owns Atlus, therefore they have final say. Everything else is unknown.
Is it possible that Atlus presented SEGA with the idea? Sure.
It's also possible that SEGA told Atlus to make a PC port.
Only employees at Atlus or SEGA (which is basically the same thing) know for sure.
@HSuzumiyaVI
I think you are reading a little bit more into my words than what I wrote. I fleshed out what I meant to say earlier as well. Basically, I'm not making any assumptions about Persona fans at all. I'm saying that perhaps the publishers are making assumptions about Persona fans. And that the publishers are likely to know much more about what the fans own/want/like than either of us.
@RPGamer She is saying how many people keep asking for PS4 games to be on switch. I don't think if you notice but they're a lot of people out there talking about games they would like on switch that aren't Nintendo.
Btw you're funny xD
over protective, what a joke. Say that to the Sony workers
@NintendoPok then why would they release it on switch in the future
@RPGamer Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal are is Sony's exclusives. P4 Golden already not.
Who I am, if I own both PS4 and Switch, and PC too? Sony fanboy or nintendo fanboy? Or both? Or you just judge other people by yourself, because you are fanboy too?
"sUperIoR sWiTcH oWnEr"
You mean poor beggars and crazy fans, who own only a Switch and live in their small world of ports?
"Sony fans are overprotective of their games"
And nintendofans not?
"they don’t want other people to get to enjoy their fantastic games"
I bet they want. And you can enjoy it anytime. Just buy a PS4.
@HSuzumiyaVI I am glad for you. But why you have a 2 versions of same game? I have Persona 4 on PS2 and PS Vita, but they are very different.
@RPGamer they are Sony exclusives. Persona 5 Royal is exclusive. Persona 4 Golden was exclusive.
I mean, that you are fanboy and think about other people like they are fanboys too. But it is wrong. If I wanna play in other platform's exclusive, I just buy another console. I don't understand fanboism and port beggars.
"Sony fans think they are superior because they have more powerful consoles and a lot of games."
But you can own 2 consoles and be much more superior!
"Also I love how you’re getting defensive and lashing out at Switch-only users! It’s cute, keep it up."
You are wrong here. It doesn't matter if it PS4, Xbox, PC or Switch-only users. It stupid thing to be bounded by one platform. Especially if you want to play in other games. I always don't liked any port beggars. Switch-only users just more active.
"people want Sony games on Switch so they can enjoy them on the go, not having to lug around a huge box."
It's impossible, because it is too big, modern and beautiful. Or do you want even more ugly version then Witcher 3 port?
If you want to play in Mario and Zelda, you'ill buy a Switch. If you want Uncharted, Persona or Horizon, you'll buy a PS4. It's simple and always working in that way.
@RPGamer I said the people who work for Sony. I'm a sony player and that doesn't mean l'm overprotective. Also calm down, so far l just see you yelling in all caps in comments.
@Anvold "claps"
I agreed with you there!
Also people should look on the bright side that PS4 consoles are going on sale and in other countries they will be on sale in the future because PS5 is coming out pretty soon.
@RPGamer I know. It was a joke.
Of course it's useless, because I'm right. Main Persona series is PS exclusive.
"And are you okay?"
I'm good, thanks.
"The Witcher 3 port was freaking BEAUTIFUL"
It's looks terrible. Then I look on it I wanna be blind.
"I don’t really care too much about graphics."
I care about all things - graphics, style, story and gameplay. All things are very important. But I don't care much about portability.
"I got the system because I love Nintendo"
Just play in Nintendo games then. Why you want Sony exclusive games on your platform?
I don't love Nintendo and Sony. It's just two greedy corporations. I like only games. But I want, that different consoles had a different game library. It'll make them more unique.
"Also, I can tell you are obsessed with Sony because you’re defending every single point I make about it."
If I have different opinion, that makes me obsessed with Sony? You have no point here
"it is big and beautiful"
Of course, it's more big and beautiful if you compare it with Switch games, that took only few GB in console memory. And if I play in FullHD, then I don't break my eyes. But if I'll play in Witcher 3, Wolfenstein and Torna Golden Country on Switch again, then I'll definitely break them.
@RPGamer so you finally understand, that I'm right? I'm glad to know it.
"I want Sony games on my system because... haven’t I said this before? I want to play them on my PORTABLE CONSOLE."
Too bad. Sony don't support their portable console so it's impossible. Or you can play it in Remote Play on PS Vita, if you want.
"And the Witcher 3 port looked bad in your opinion"
Are you blind or something?
"And dude if you hate Nintendo games that much then why are you on this site?"
Why you asked me such a question, if you already know the answer? I don't hate Nintendo games, because I am on this site and because I have few Nintendo consoles. Dude, you really have no other arguments?
"Graphics aren’t the main focus of the Switch’s games, so deal with it."
I'm not against a simple graphics in 720p. But if it more lower, then that soap and pixels just hurting you eyes! I just don't like this visual terrorism.
"Go play PC and stuff if you want the best graphics!"
I already play it on PC, PS4 and Switch, because I have a great games on all of them. And I don't want the best graphics. If it just normal, then it is OK. So why you can't play in Sony games on PS4? Why you prefer to live in small fanboy world? Especially, if you know, that you'll never get this games on Switch? I can't understand that.
@RPGamer I'd recommend that you two stop this meaningless back and forth. An argument is hard to win against an intelligent person, but quite impossible against a stubborn person. I would say more but I'd like to refrain from insulting our friend @Anvold.
@RPGamer you may keep saying, that I am wrong, but deep in your heart you already know, that I am right.
I am six years old? Hmm...maybe I am just a kid in my soul, but kids are cruel. And I'm very in touch with my inner child.
1. Then you can't play in Sony games on Nintendo console like you can't play in Nintendo games on Sony console. Easy, isn't it?
2. And there's many visible pixels too. Wholly picture looks like a mud. Is it ok for you? For me not.
I'm not expecting too much from the Switch, I just want more beautiful games like Zelda or Tokyo Mirage Sesson #FE with good resolution on it and less ugly ports.
3. PS4 have many exclusives, not just one game.
4. I know it because...it's obviously. Isn't it? Or it looks so strange for you, if you can't play in Sony games on Nintendo console?
P4G was ported only because Sony didn't see PC as rival. They'll port Horizon too. You can play in it and if you like it, you'll buy Horizon 2 with PS5. Same about P4G. If you like it, you may want play in P5R. But you can do it only on PS4.
5. Don't worry about it. You wrote me first anyway. I don't gonna call you a coward or something like it. I just clearly see that you trying to escape the truth. But I hope, that you can accept it and yourself in one day.
@Laytonmontgomery oh, you can't insult me, friend. Hope you wouldn't say something like "I want to play in Sony games on Nintendo console, cause I want it" or another port begging.
@Anvold And my statement is proven, adieu.
@Anvold steam is universal and persona 4 golden is the physical version.
