Re: Pokémon Unite Is Discontinuing Aeos Coins In Its December Game Update

lumothesinner

@HeadPirate You are right, it is definitely too early to say. License journeys could be a step in the right direction.

I can't think of anything Timi did in the last year that was a step in the right direction though. Battlepass prices increase, unite club rewards were reduced, nearly every mon was broken on release making the game pay to win, mega lucario and charizard have totally different implementations from Mewtwo.

I just can't put faith in them putting in a new system that isn't designed to make people pay more or receive less in this game.

Re: Pokémon Unite Is Discontinuing Aeos Coins In Its December Game Update

lumothesinner

@Dom_31 Aeos coins are one of the in game currencies that you get for free just for playing. Aeos gems are the one that costs money.

Timi are removing the easy free method of getting new licenses, typically new mons are added and can only be bought with gems for 2 weeks, then they are available to get with aeos coins.

Most longtime regular players have tons of coins stashed away as coins are plentiful and theres only so much to actually spend them on.

This means future releases will likely be harder to get for f2p users. We don't know exactly what license journeys will be, but the phrasing of "may also become available" sounds like you would rely on RNG to have a chance to get new licenses, instead of picking and choosing who you want when you have the coins.

Re: Yooka-Replaylee Runs At 30fps On Switch 2, Team Investigating Performance Mode

lumothesinner

Why is everyone freaking out about 30fps? Most ps5/xsx ports are going to be 30fps on switch 2. The original ran at 30 on all consoles. This is a remake, not a remaster/port. Between this and reddit when did switch owners become 60fps or die gamers? Because you all bought the wrong console if you want all games 60.

Personally can't wait for this, played the demo on steam deck where they lock the game at 45, and really liking the changes so far, I'll probably get the switch 2 version as its more convenient for me

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush (Switch 2) - DLC That's Ripe With Fun, But Could've Been More

lumothesinner

@raymond23 I've put so much time into side order. Still have not finished the main Splatoon 3 campaign as I mostly got it for MP, but as a huge fan of roguelikes I have played side order so much because the mechanics work so well with the game mode and scenario they have built. I've completed runs with about 50% of the weapon styles available and will not stop until i've got 100%, maybe not even then. Its good as you do have permanent unlocks so each run does make progression even if you fail.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush (Switch 2) - DLC That's Ripe With Fun, But Could've Been More

lumothesinner

@LastFootnote Came here to say this too!

How is it that splatoon 3 Side order is basically the same (New hub world that isnt part of the main campaign and a roguelite mode, that mode is limited to a single area rathern than 70% of the main game), costs more than DKB Emerald Rush at its regular price (plus 2 years of inflation) and yet gets a higher score in its review and no complaints of price at all?

It makes Emerald Rush seem like a good deal.

DKB was a complete game upon release, I didn't feel like it was missing anything (it had a nostalgia level in there already).

Having a new mode as DLC, seems like the right way to do it, people can buy it if they want, its pretty fairly priced when compared to Nintendos other DLC offerings, if they don't they don't have to?

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

lumothesinner

People must not remember other console launches if they are disappointed in switch 2s.

Sw1 had botw, a port of Mario kart that everyone complained about it being just a port, and Arms after 3 months. Outside of snipper clips and shovel knight the indies were kinda unimpressive, and 3rd parties were non existent.

Switch 2 has two amazing 1st party, two more mehs, some amazing updates for sw1 games without paying for the full game again like wii u, and indies and 3rd parties aplenty. We have a decently running version of cyberpunk, something the PS4 and xb1 can't say.

What more do people want from a launch window?

Re: Upgrade Pack Price For Zelda: BOTW And TOTK Has Been Confirmed

lumothesinner

@1UP-HUSKY Last of Us 2 I'll give you. No escape did not come to ps4. Iki island came to ghost ps4, spidey remastered may have had all dlc included, but was more expensive that the GOTY edition on ps4 which was the same thing. Spidey remastered was not a free purchase with Miles, you had to pay £20 to get the deluxe version of Miles to get spidey1 remastered. Miles on its own was £50. The only other one that I could class as not paying for a simple upscale is horizon zero dawn remastered, as a lot of work was done to the models and environments.

Yeh it always comes down to the consumer if its worth it. Thankfully most 3rd parties and xbox do not charge for updates, and SF6 at £50 with 2 seasons DLC indicates that Capcom at least want to price properly when sony and nintendo dont. Problem is too many people will still pay for sony and nintendo upgrades, just like we all paid again for Wii U to switch ports

Re: Upgrade Pack Price For Zelda: BOTW And TOTK Has Been Confirmed

lumothesinner

@dr-ghost Tell that to Sony lol. Games like god of war ragnarok and gran tourismo 7 were released on ps4 and 5 same date, 5 cost £10 more. Not to mention most of their ps5 re-releases cost extra too, like Ghosts, Last of us 2, Days Gone, spidey remastered, horizon 1 remastered

From what Nintendo have show so far, both Kirby and Mario Party upgrades include DLC addons with more content, Zeldas get additional functionality via nintendo switch app, and metroid prime 4 gets mouse controls, somewhat justifying that these arent just performance updates. Maybe not for MP4 and Zeldas, but definitely for Kirby and Mario Party

They have also announced that there are many games getting free switch 2 updates, like Mario Odyessy and Pokemon Scarlet/violet, which are likely just the free performance updates you are referring to that is industry standard across most publishers (except Sony)

Re: Upgrade Pack Price For Zelda: BOTW And TOTK Has Been Confirmed

lumothesinner

Given the prices of the games on places like argos and game which normally use RRP instead of a slight discount like currys and smyths, both Zeldas, Kirby and Mario Party are £67 like Donkey Kong.

Zeldas both cost RRP £60 in UK, Kirby and Mario Party are £50

One could predict that the Zelda upgrade prices are £7 each and Kirby and Mario Party are £17 each, unless they go cheaper digital like the rest of the switch 2 games

Re: Video: Everything That Could Go Wrong With The Switch's Successor

lumothesinner

requests for themes and other features bewilder me. Consoles like ps4 and xbox one/series have themes and their OS functionality is so slow in comparison despite the huge increase in power. Do people not realise that the switch OS is so quick and small in size (around 4GB) which is kind of needed on a 32GB storage device. the other consoles had OS installs that were more than double the size of the available storage on switch, and took so long to power on and off. Even xbox series x with quick resume and SSDs, it takes several times longer than switch to get back into a game

Please stop asking for bloat in the switch OS so it can keep being as quick as it is for the hardware is on and using sleep mode effectively

Re: Poll: What Switch Online N64 Game Are You Most Excited About?

lumothesinner

@KevinP given the only current legal way to play it is using a legit n64, I think you are in a very small group of people who will have played it recently and knows what it feels like. If you like it the way it is, I am sorry as my comment does not apply to you

The vast majority of people will be in the group of played it 20 years ago and looking through rose tinted glasses, or never played it and only heard how it was revolutionary for its time. Those are the people who are going to be disappointed when they finally are able to play it (again).

Re: Poll: What Switch Online N64 Game Are You Most Excited About?

lumothesinner

Man, I really feel for all these people voting goldeneye. They are going to be so disappointed when they get their hands on the n64 version again. It has aged terribly. I'll check out the xbox version that fixes the controls and framerates, but I didn't spend that long with perfect dark xbox port and thats the superior game.

Personally I can't wait for 1080 snowboarding

Re: Poll: What's The Best Metroid Game?

lumothesinner

@BloodNinja Coming back from fusion and zero mission and now samus returns, to super is really awkward with the weapon select mechanics not being a toggle, not to mention the timing required for space jumping and wall jumping. http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/405/ this hack aims to fix that, but tbh when I replay I run redux which has a ton of other improvements on super https://www.romhacking.net/reviews/5293/

Also its not just me, these patches wouldnt exist if it was. Infact Nintendolifes own @AlexOlney has said on multiple videos that he also dislikes the controls, maybe he would like to try one of these patches and see if it improves the game

Re: Poll: What's The Best Metroid Game?

lumothesinner

ive put 3 (well 4 with trilogy) 10s up here, prime 1, prime 2 and zero mission are all incredible. Supers controls dont hold up to this day unless you play the control freak patched ROM.

AM2R would also be a 10, play it if you can.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

lumothesinner

Direct was OK, nice to see Nintendo continuing to offer a game a month even if none of them are for me personally, and miitopia 3ds port gives me hope for other 3ds ports. Splatoon 3 is potentially huge, but so far away...just like BOTW2 and MP4 and Bayonetta 3.

But I am offended by Skyward swords pricing. Last year there were two wii ports, XCDE that got entirely remade assets, additional content and mechanical tweaks, and Mario Galaxy that was simply uprezed and had control scheme changes, but also got uprezed Sunshine and 64 in the package.
Now they want to sell us Skyward Sword with uprezing and control scheme changes...for full price? There better be a ton of fixes and additional content to make it seem like we are not being ripped off.

Re: UK Charts: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Launch Sales Are 190% More Than The Wii U Version

lumothesinner

TBH I'm surprised its not higher than 190%

As stated in the article, the global switch install base is currently 1333% larger than the wii U install base at release of 3d world, and we know that UK has always been a sony focused region until last year with the switch making a massive surge compared, so I would guess the install base in UK of switch compared to Wii U is around the same as the global ratio, if not higher. So with a potential install base of 13 times more than the wii U at time of release, the game only makes 3 times more sales on switch...I wouldn't think that's a success

Time will tell I guess, I picked it up a second time and have been loving it

Re: Video: Get Hyped For Burnout Paradise Remastered On Switch With This New Trailer

lumothesinner

@farmer_humpf £38.95 now - still higher than the launch price of other consoles. I'll pass until EA stops being stingy...so ill probably never be able to pick it up

@alasdair91 You can find it cheaper than RRP yes, thats not the point as thats a retailer discount. When a game costs more at launch on the switch than it did at launch on all other platforms, thats extortion by the publisher. If they priced it the same RRP would be £35 and retailer discounts would be even lower, right now you are buying at the old RRP of other platforms with the retailer discount. I would consider that still too high for me, but understandable pricing. 23% markup to be on switch is not acceptable

Re: Feature: How Aragami: Shadow Edition Aims To Stealthily Win Over Switch Ninjas

lumothesinner

I really like the look of this, but yet another game getting the switch tax. The Shadow edition launched on steam at £21.98, it launched on ps4 at £19.99, and its launching on switch at 24.99 (or with 10% pre-order discount so 22.49)

I know its not very much but I refuse to encourage this behaviour by devs. Games coming later to switch should be at the most same price as when launching on other platforms, not more.

Re: The Mobile Phone Equivalent Of Dark Souls Is Making Its Way Across To The Switch

lumothesinner

Looks ok, animations not quite as nice as dark souls, something looks slightly off, but if it releases at its google play price of £3.59 I'd be tempted.

Of course its not going to release at that price because when is there ever parity between mobile and console, this is why mobile will never be considered a viable platform when premium games that are ported from console are instantly slashed to a quarter of the price to survive, and games coming from mobile to consoles get a 4x price hike putting everyone off. Implosion is the only mobile game to do this right, and it deserves every penny of its price tag that is the same on switch and mobile.
