"Full of yourself is stronger." "Sharpen tool is stronger." "Ball damage reduced for small hits." "Big Chinese sword has more durability." "Dick enemy has less life."
...there's a joke in there somewhere...
Love this game, and really appreciate the extra care its getting. It seems to be on sale across multiple platforms - just noticed Steam and Android versions are on sale too.
As much as I dislike the LRG (and their friends/competitors) business model of limited availability...the really nice thing about ordering the physical copies is that it's always a nice surprise when they show up. Momodora from LRG just showed up at my door yesterday - and what fun it is! I can't wait to play this game...and it will be a nice surprise the day it arrives.
Why the hate on Gamestop/EB Games exclusivity? Surely exclusive has to be desirable over the market that companies such as Limited Run, Super Rare, and Strictly Limited have created. Super small print runs, limited availability...get it or forget it. Don't get me wrong, I think retailer exclusivity is ridiculous, timed or not, but I'd rather know I can grab the game somewhere, as opposed to the race against time at these niche Switch game producers.
This makes me feel really salty. A kick in the teeth from Nintendo. No more buying Nintendo titles in their release window if deals like this are going to come along so soon. Nope. Especially since my family had to purchase an extra set of joy-cons to play the game together.
I'm happy for those who get the opportunity now, but this salt...geez.
@2Awesome Fair play, thanks for responding! Congratulations on publishing your first Switch indie. I downloaded it today from the Play store am enjoying it, so I have no problem supporting it on the Switch too. I had a lot of fun with your game, Dimension Drive, so I'll be interested in what you publish next on the Switch. Thank you for doing what you do, and my apologies for being snarky.
I wonder if 1-4 still has that gold brick glitch in the clock tower, where the brick was noncollectable if events were triggered in the wrong order. Boy, was I cheesed about restarting from scratch for the 100% achievement (X360) - but the game was just so bloody fun., it didn't matter. Combined, well over 100 hours into these two games. I will be happy to pick them up for another go, but on sale of course. I feel that the asking price is just too much.
The real story here is how Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remains in the UK top ten. What continues to drive the sales? Is there just that much passion for Crash? I mean really, of all the games on the market today...
Breaking news: Company X decides that Game Y is not viable for Nintendo Switch.
crickets
So what? We all know what the Switch is and what it isn't. I appreciate the hell out of what it is, and don't lament anything that doesn't make it over. There's already more than enough to play for years. How lucky we are to have so many platforms and games to choose from, and how lucky we are to have awesome devs like Bethesda consider each platform equally when developing new games.
If I had to change anything at all, it would be battery life.
BUT. I don't want Nintendo wasting time and resources on an update that isn't necessary. Focus on first-party games - and quality first-party games. You've got third parties on lock. Get your stuff together and focus on the content that sells systems, rather than iterations of systems.
It's a good game, for those who haven't indulged on mobile already. There are four games in the series so far, all cheaper than $9.99 on Google Play, and presumably the App Store, but I'm an Android person and don't know for sure.
What I'm curious about is this line: "Also, the DLC for the original game has been weaved into the Switch version to extend game content by about 25%." I don't see any DLC available for the game, so this may warrant the double-dip.
This does not sound like a 'return to form' at all. 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 are the jewels in the series, while 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 are the missteps. (Although, one could just say everything after 7 are the worst, to include the folks who first experienced MP through 4 and 5. They are not terrible games, just not as good as the others from 1-7.) 2, 3, and 6 all represent 'true to form' for the series, and from the sounds of all the reviews, the game is nothing like them at all. I'm only talking console outings here, by the by.
Those games were ooozing with personality. @Nookingtons has it nailed - this one just seems so soulless. @waluigifan1 has it right too - ND Cube, please go away. It started when they birthed Wii Party, an absolutely awful affair (ugh). Their handling of the Mario Party series has been poor ever since.
I am beyond disappointed. A small number of good boards, I can live with. A 20 round maximum? What the...? Do they even lift, bro? While not a virtual console advocate...I have to fold here. Please just remaster the older ones and lump them together in a collection.
Not usually one to complain about control schemes, but only joy-cons is such a bummer. I only have the joy-cons that came with the system ... and Mario Party is the traditional way to destroy even the hardiest of controllers. Urgh. I have a generous pre-order discount with Amazon on this one, but the out-of-pocket cost may be out of reach here. Urgh.
They will never offer Switch discounts on My Nintendo. They removed the 'Switch Rewards' category and replaced it with the 1 gold coin = 0.01c towards anything. Bum deal.
I've lost thousands of platinum points and hundreds of gold points to their asinine expiration dates with nothing to spend them on. I want the old My Nintendo back — the one where we could get cool Nintendo swag — not this 30% discount on years-old digital games hooey.
Honestly, if this is offensive to you, are women offensive to you too? We have boobs, they bounce, unless you squish them into a sports bra, and even then...! If you can't handle this in a game world, I hope you never have to come across boob jiggle in your day-to-day life. You know what would make it more realistic? Boob sweat. Underneath, and in between. If they jiggled and her shirt got a little stained under the boob over time - that's a character I can relate to!
I've said it from the beginning, how many times can they sell/offer the same NES games? Let them die already. I don't even care if you think it's convenient, or a fun diversion, or more choice, or whatever. It's an absolute waste of time and resources.
If they want to be serious about virtual console type titles, start bringing GBA games, that would make sense - the Switch is giant GBA. I'm a 3DS Ambassador - they had GBA games running on the 3DS, what was it, six year ago now? And they wonder why people are so voracious about getting their hands on roms and emulators. Trickling 3 completely not exciting NES games a month would be a joke if it wasn't already happening.
Sega is putting out a collection of what, 60 games? Figure it out Nintendo. Either produce something new on the virtual console front, or stick a fork in it. It's done.
"Pre-orders for the gorgeous [..] fans can grab this beautiful creation..."
Are we looking at the same controller? It looks like a little kid broke it, and the parents were too broke to fix it, so they ordered cheap off-brand parts on eBay and cobbled it back together. Maybe the result of a drunk paint night .. no wait, I know! It was probably the same genius who named the new iPhone XS Max. Power, to the MAX! I imagine the room in which this controller was birthed had an Emperor's New Clothes vibe. Everyone was in on the joke, but that one guy. That one guy had the power to birth this monstrosity...
Ok, ok, I'm done. (But that controller, by god, what were they thinking..??"
Just let me back up my own saves using whatever service I like. Google Drive, etc. I shouldn't have to pay any additional money over and above the $90 each game costs to do something as simple as keep a backup of my save game somewhere. Don't need an online subscription for my own saves. Why did it take them this long to get the online service up and running?
How many times are they going to keep pushing out the same tired NES games? Move up a generation or two, geez. Super Mario Bros. 3 came out when I was 8 years old. Thirty years ago! When Nintendo released it as Super Mario Advance 4 for GBA, and added the new levels with e-Cards, that was awesome. I would be in for that, and a bunch of other GBA games in a heartbeat.
I guess Octopath Traveler must have outperformed all expectations, because now that the initial shock has worm off, that is one hell of a commitment to a console.
In June 2017, Amazon put up a whole bunch of placeholders for Switch titles. I put Super Mario Odyssey, Yoshi, and Metroid Prime 4 in my cart. Each one for only $59.96CDN! It's sad that I'm happy about that, because $79.99 is ridiculous, but it's just icing on the cake to finally see that order get a proper listing.
Seeing the words "The minions of hell grow stronger..." on an official Nintendo social media account brings so much retroactive joy to my nine year-old self in 1989. Oh how far you've come, Nintendo!
Metal Slug - yoink! I'll take one of those, please. I think they should knock a good 40% off the retail price of the entire ACA Neo-Geo series permanently. I'd buy a good lot of them if the price was easier to swallow.
@hatch How did I not know about Sengoku series? Just a quick 60 second video clip, and yup, that's a purchase right there. Maybe I should hold off for a day or two, there's rumblings about a sale on the ACA titles ... this is an exciting day.
Castle Crashers was the tipping point for me too on XBLA. It really redefined what a 'download-only' title could be. Still play it on PC because my 360 is long gone, but a Switch release would be awesome, no problem triple dipping here.
YES! Lego Harry Potter! I played 70 hours on my 360 back in the day, and a game-breaking bug made it impossible to collect one of the special bricks. So I restarted the game from scratch just to work around the bug and get the brick. That's how much I enjoyed the game.
However, no way is this going for full retail. The XB1/PS4 versions are $32CDN on Amazon. If they think they're going to put it on Switch @$69.99, no.
I really hope to see Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Batman make a comeback on the Switch. Those Lego games had real magic behind them.
The beat 'em up genre is so desperately under-served. Castle Crashers was released 10 years ago, and look at the love it received! (It was most recently remastered in 2015 for PC/XB1.) The team doesn't like to do sequels though, so we are unlikely to ever see another one. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was released ... eight years ago? High quality beat 'em ups of this style just aren't there any more.
This game doesn't have to be titled Streets of Rage to pique my interest, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Loving the art style, and keeping a close watch on where it goes.
NO to scores. They're incredibly subjective. Especially here, where many of the reviews are quite short with high scores. Most reviews aren't even reviews, they are mild spoilers for beginning to mid-game content. The end-game spoilers are left out because most reviewers don't play through the entire game.
The problem with scores is sites feeling the pressure to score high to ensure they continue to receive their free copies. Or, who knows what. Publisher pressure exactly WHY to destroy scoring systems. If your crummy game scores poorly, make better games! It's the same way you teach a child - you don't give them a gold star for spelling 'cat' 'kat'. You provide encouragement for the effort, but teach them the right way to spell it. If a publisher thinks their game is a 9, and a reviewer says 7, that's exactly why there shouldn't be scores - because they are completely subjective and irrelevant. The only thing the publisher will change is your access to receive games in advance of their release in exchange for a good score to bump their sales.
I don't want scores, or yes/no, or recommend/not recommend. I want to read a review - what the person thought about it, and why. I don't need a summation - that's for me to decide after reading it. Either it agrees or disagrees with my bias/opinions/interest, or it piques my interest, or it keeps me away.
I love physical editions of games - and had no idea Super Rare Games was producing more games now. I've purchased five of them from Limited Run Games - Thimbleweed Park, Mercenary Kings, Flinthook, Oceanhorn, and Dust: An Elysian Tale. Couldn't resist Retro City Rampage from VBlank either, it's a compulsive purchase on any platform. It's so tempting to 'collect them all,' but I am careful to only purchase games I really want
It's basically $50/ea CDN plus shipping for these games, which is why each purchase is quite thoughtful. I purchased Mutant Mudds on the eShop for less than $10, 1/5 the price of physical. The applies to virtually all of the games produced so far. $20 or less in digital form (even less if you catch them on sale). That makes the physical copies at minimum 50% more expensive. I do love what these companies are doing, but mentally, it's starting to become difficult to justify...
...even if I do want all three that are available tomorrow at SRG. It's becoming more and more difficult to hide these purchases from my partner.
Why are the special edition controllers always so god-awful ugly? That looks like a cheap third-party knockoff. If that's all they are going to do, they should make make the shell swapable, and people can buy new shells instead.
For a special edition controller, why not a specialized d-pad, or more sensitive triggers, or improved latency, or even colour customizable lighting like you see in gaming mice/keyboards. Something special, that elevates it beyond a different shell.
@JayJ For a long time, it felt as if I was the only one who felt that way. My stepbrother and I would literally stay up all night with our copy of F-Zero for the SNES. There was no multiplayer, but that didn't stop us. We would watch each other like hawks - I would shave a second off of his time, get bragging rights - and he would do the same. It was one of our top SNES games.
We missed the N64 - but when this came out on NGC, we were STOKED. Seriously stoked. Multiplayer F-Zero!!! Waited outside for the store to open...bought it...got home, ripped the plastic off while coming in the door, and it was time for some late night F-Zero competition. Except, it was GX. And it was so hard, it turned us off racing games for years. Sega made a beautiful game. Sega made a fantastic game. But even when making it for Nintendo, they missed the Nintendo difference - fun and accessible, yet difficult to master. F-Zero GX is to F-Zero, as Super Meat Boy is to Super Mario.
I would think the stock shortage has more to do with the drop in sales than a lack of interest. It seems to me that there is artificial scarcity in effect. There is no way they 'underestimated' the demand for this game, with not one - but two demos, soliciting feedback from players, the advertising push...
...on the flip side, it could just be that it's not a RPG focused market at this moment in the UK. It's N-Sane that Crash has held the number one spot four consecutive weeks, but people like what they like.
@Heavyarms55 I adore RPGs, especially ones that hearken back to the glory days of the SNES. It has less to do with giving them a chance, and more to do with the time commitment for me. In Canada, the Switch costs $379.99 + taxes that vary by province. $425.59 in my case. New games are $79.99, plus tax - $90. Five games > the cost of the system. So to buy a new release title at new release prices, it better be a game that I am able to sink my teeth into right away, in small enough chunks that I can afford the time to play it. RPGs are tough to play that way, for a variety of reasons. The same applies to the Skyrims and Xenoblades of the gaming landscape...just not enough time.
First, I feel for the poor guy who had to put that video together, playing the game over and over and over ... I'll bet after a while, they all looked the same to him too.
Sure, you can see the differences ... but really all that matters is that you like the game, you buy it for whatever system you want to play it on, and you enjoy yourself. If visual fidelity turns you on, grab your RealDoll and have at it! If portability turns you on, take that Joycon and enjoy its sweet, sweet, HD rumble.
If you like it, buy it, play it, and be happy. Yeesh.
I think it looks fun, at least from the video on Steam. The reviews there are favourable enough to warrant a "positive" rating, with caveats. Awesome that the developer went the extra mile and made multiplayer possible on the Switch. It will help other smaller studios do the same!
My only concern would be that the game is in "early access" on Steam. Will it be ready for prime time on Switch? The updates from the developer say: "Our main focus remains on the Steam version of the game because we can gather precious feedback from the community, which is a very valuable resource for us!" The game has to be good enough to warrant online, you know?
I don't play FPS games on consoles at all - only on PC, because I simply don't understand how people use a controller to play that type of game. Playing with a mouse vs analogue sticks. Why?? I know a lot of people are pro-controller, but I just don't understand ya'll.
However...
...question. What do you guys mean when you say "gyro aiming" or "motion assisted controls"? What does that translate to in terms of game play ... is it a way to make up for the unplayable nature of a FPS with a standard controller?
And to my fellow Canadians, yes, the price of games here is completely ridiculous. I refuse to buy anything at retail now, until prices drop to a reasonable level. There are some games I'd love to get, but there is no game worth $90 to me. Especially when they launch simultaneously on other platforms for far less. Obviously Nintendo charges devs up the bum for cartridges (the "switch tax"), which is why we get these major devs using 16gb carts + downloads, but it cannot possibly be enough of a tax to warrant this kind of price increase. It's sad, because there are first party Nintendo releases I'd like to play (Kirby, DKC, Tennis...), but not for $270. Ridiculous.
I am a huge fan of 8bitdo controllers - especially considering the number of devices each works with. (The NES and SNES Classic were virtually unplayable until their wireless adapter!)
These new controllers? What the hell? I don't think I've ever seen anything so ugly from them, other than the NES style controller they made with 4 face buttons. These controllers look toys, and not in a good way.
The current SN30 Pro is perfect for me. These look like garbage.
Wow - it looks even more amazing than I thought! So glad I have it pre-ordered on Amazon. There simply aren't enough quality 2D platformers around. I hoped Nintendo might port New Super Mario Bros. over, or even produce a new one...but if other developers want to produce this level of quality, I'm so in.
But that song in the trailer though....why? Ruins the trailer.

Metal Slug - yoink! I'll take one of those, please. I think they should knock a good 40% off the retail price of the entire ACA Neo-Geo series permanently. I'd buy a good lot of them if the price was easier to swallow.
Re: Feature: Behind The Scenes On Streets Of Rage 4, The Sequel We Thought We'd Never See
@hatch How did I not know about Sengoku series? Just a quick 60 second video clip, and yup, that's a purchase right there. Maybe I should hold off for a day or two, there's rumblings about a sale on the ACA titles ... this is an exciting day.
Castle Crashers was the tipping point for me too on XBLA. It really redefined what a 'download-only' title could be. Still play it on PC because my 360 is long gone, but a Switch release would be awesome, no problem triple dipping here.
Re: LEGO Harry Potter Collection Brings The Magic To Switch Next Month
Re: Feature: Behind The Scenes On Streets Of Rage 4, The Sequel We Thought We'd Never See
The beat 'em up genre is so desperately under-served.
Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?
Re: Video: Super Rare Games' Physical Switch Releases Are A Joy
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition Controller And Game Bundle Revealed

Re: Sega Wanted To Impress Nintendo With F-Zero GX, Despite Losing The Hardware War
Re: Octopath Traveler Slips In UK Charts As Crash Bandicoot Takes Fourth Consecutive Top Spot
Re: Random: Nintendo Switch Is Getting Its Own VR-Style Headset, But There's A Catch
That picture of the guy on the bed is just killing me, lol. I almost want to try it, just to see if my reaction would be the same.
Re: Video: Here's How Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy On Switch Compares To Other Versions
Yeesh.
Re: All-Star Fruit Racing Will Support Online Play On Nintendo Switch
I think it looks fun, at least from the video on Steam. The reviews there are favourable enough to warrant a "positive" rating, with caveats. Awesome that the developer went the extra mile and made multiplayer possible on the Switch. It will help other smaller studios do the same!
My only concern would be that the game is in "early access" on Steam. Will it be ready for prime time on Switch? The updates from the developer say: "Our main focus remains on the Steam version of the game because we can gather precious feedback from the community, which is a very valuable resource for us!" The game has to be good enough to warrant online, you know?
Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)
Ridiculous.
Re: Review: LEGO The Incredibles (Switch)
Far too expensive. $90CDN with tax. I snagged it for $30 on sale for Steam. The prices for new Switch retail releases are out of control.
Re: 8BitDo Reveals Huge Range Of Bluetooth Controllers, All Compatible With Nintendo Switch
Re: Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom Gets Shown Off In Brand New E3 Trailer
Wow - it looks even more amazing than I thought! So glad I have it pre-ordered on Amazon. There simply aren't enough quality 2D platformers around. I hoped Nintendo might port New Super Mario Bros. over, or even produce a new one...but if other developers want to produce this level of quality, I'm so in.
But that song in the trailer though....why? Ruins the trailer.
Re: Nintendo Has Updated The Switch eShop With New Functionality
@Cosats That was the joke...
