@-wc- "...we get their best when they are struggling for market relevance and constantly evolving and trying new things ✌️ not when they are winning the money race."
They occupied a neat spot for 8 years, right? Nobody was doing it like them. Not sure I want a Switch 2 to play digital games. No rush at this point.
@Magician
NL 2017 (Whitehead):
"L.A. Noire 27.4GB on the eShop, mandatory 13.1GB download; the publisher opted for a batch of 16GB carts from Nintendo in order to maximise the profit off each sale."
There doesn't seem to be a choice this time. Especially for us. It's either Game Key or 64GB card.
NL also 2017 (Calvert):
"32GB game card: In industry circles, it is said that these cards actually cost more than $20 per cart to the publisher."
I would be surprised if a 64GB Switch 2 game card costs $16.
"...a fight against one relatively low-level goon will leave your hero absolutely gassed". It seems like I have a good idea of what to expect with this game. Very realistic, annoyingly at times, but satisfaction is achievable and worth the struggle?
How are you feeling about Mario Kart World's new price? Uneasy.
Do you think it's reasonable based on what you've seen of the game so far? No. The MKWorld Direct was puny and didn't amount to much.
How much would you be willing to pay for other next-generation experiences...? Not sure...I wish I knew more about what I'm paying for. Are prices going up just because they can? Or are there business realities that are what they are, like cartridge costs.
Do you think the amount of "detail" and "realism" should play a part? To a point, I suppose. But I think we can rely more on our imaginations. Every nook and cranny featured in ultra settings and ray tracing and hdr and 4k is used to excuse this new gaudy pricing. Back off a little. How many developers are working on GTA6? Ridiculous.
@Jester676 "The day Nintendo Folds and goes under you can guarantee any eShop games will be wiped clean and forget about any re-downloading. When that time comes for Nintendo that will also mean that XBox and PS will be also long gone as well."
This sounds like a script idea for the next really bad Terminator movie. Cheer up Jester! I'm not one of those doom/gloom people so take heart.
@StewdaMegaManNerd "The malicious… CODES-IN-THE-BOXES!!!!" Never would buy CODES-IN-THE-BOXES!!!! Maybe Just Dance folks don't mind, but otherwise no. That should be the branding though. All caps and exclamation points with hyphens. Just make it as obnoxious as possible.
@Olmectron "...in 20+ years, game cards will stop working...So you also don't "own" anything." Ah. Ok I wasn't addressing any of that. I placed the two sentiments as a juxtaposition. I appreciate Rosner's take. The more who will agree the merrier.
@Olmectron Yes they have to be smart about it. But they can still maintain a leadership role in encouraging these things. At least they didn't say you will own nothing and be happy.
Feeling the Squeeze... not the money, the pushy industry. I'm in wait-and-see mode right now. Let others review how well the pieces fit. Thank you NL btw.
Jan Rosner "Nintendo players are very appreciative of physical editions that are done right." Cyberpunk was about the most normal thing I heard out of the Direct. The rest of it had too many weird drawbacks.
It would be better for me if the above quote was from Doug Bowser.
@chickje "...Key Carts make sense for games like Call of Duty..." Dat storage though. If we eventually get COD games from the first one to Black Ops 3 most of those could fit on a Switch 2 cartridge.
@StewdaMegaManNerd "It’s not like they’re forcing developers to put their games on these." Do we know if there are cartridge size choices other than 64gb? Even if there are it may be irrelevant.
@Dman10 "Digital is the future whether we like or not." Perhaps, but we do have choices to make along the way. This is discretionary spending. We don't have to do anything with these Key Cards.
Technical realities aside, revisiting the 3ds store makes the Switch eshop feel terrible. I've never understood why there's such a glaring disparity between the two.
I don't know... Buying more and more microsd express storage to fit larger games kinda sucks. I'd rather pay for each game that is more or less self contained. Over time it seems like I'll have more games. Collecting physical games is fun! I was ready to continue that with the Switch 2.
It's also annoying having to spell out what 'physical' means now.
Digital releases force the customer to pay for more storage. The Switch 2 really is $500 easy. The internet has been used to blur the concept of a deadline.
Thank you for bringing more attention to this game and the work of Tim Rogers. After watching his tour guide/playthough/documentary, I enjoyed the game but wasn't sure how to play it in japanese. Any suggestions? I don't have much experience with this sort of thing.
@JimNorman
Sophie Smart "...it’s really cool to have a physical box with art which you can hold in your hands..."
I saw a 2017 NL piece saying developers had Switch 1 cartridge sizes 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB to produce their games. The 32GB had an estimated cost of over $20.
Switch 2 will have 64GB cartridges which may cost $40?
Are there less Switch 2 cartridge size choices for developers to use this time?
Will we be seeing more Game Key cards inside physical boxes instead of bonafide carts?
More power, more games. Great. Concerned about micro sd express card expansion... 256gb is all I find atm, don't we need more? Also no eshop news. Hope they've read the room on that one.
@Solomon_Rambling "...both lack the Ancient Ship of Doom." Yes. Although if they had it would've looked dopey. But I went with Japan because the NA cover makes no sense; how'd he get that big? And I know he's a ninja but walking on water is a bit too far. And with that pose he's doing you could replace that sword with a platter of snacks. Or a dinner bell. Or his report card
@-wc- "...this reviewer" Watch your tongue, boy! That's The Green Beret you're addressing. He's been on a break-neck pace of 3 solid reviews a month for quite some time now. We can count on him. Thanks for the fun read. Maybe this is just a phase. Metal went through this sort of thing with band names. Names went from 'Thud' or 'Wreck' to names like '...And You Will Know My Mood By What Shirt I Wear'. Good news is maybe it will fade out?
Gavin mentioned refunds at the customers whim brings uncertainty to publishers. But uncertainty is precisely what bothers me about digital only because its so vulnerable to the whim of others.

I am open to this game; a credible guide into a game series is always nice these days. Sometimes I'd rather play the original anyway for the feels.
